P-Duck's write-ups are conversions from the FASERIP Marvel Superheroes game. This is where Marvel set the character's abilities!

And yeah, Marvel and DC are on two different power scales.

GAMBIT (PL 9)
Real Name:
Remy Etienne LeBeau
Bodycast: Taylor Kitsch
Occupation: Thief
Base of Operations: New Orleans
Affiliation: Independent
Height: 6’2”; Weight: 179 lbs.
Eyes: Black with red pupils; Hair: Brown

Strength 3, Stamina 3, Agility 7, Dexterity 9
Fighting 6, Intellect 3, Awareness 6, Presence 3

POWERS
Enhanced Agility:
Enhanced Agility 4, Enhanced Defensive Roll 3, Enhanced Dexterity 6, Enhanced Fighting 3 – 29 points
Kinetic Energy Transfer: Array (18 points)
Detonate Large Objects: Burst Area Ranged Damage 6 – 18 points
Detonate Small Objects: Ranged Damage 6 – 1 point

EQUIPMENT
Deck of Playing Cards:
Feature 1 – 1 point
Quarterstaff: Feature 1 (Telescoping), Strength-Based Damage 2 (Reach) – 4 points

ADVANTAGES
Equipment 1, Language 1 (French [English is native]), Skill Mastery 2 (Acrobatics, Deception)

SKILLS
Acrobatics 6 (+13), Athletics 6 (+9), Deception 6 (+9), Expertise (Streetwise) 6 (+9), Perception 2 (+8), Persuasion 2 (+5), Sleight of Hand 6 (+15), Stealth 6 (+13)

OFFENSE
Initiative
+7
Kinetic Attack +9 (Ranged, Damage 6)
Quarterstaff +6 (Close, Damage 5)
Unarmed +6 (Close, Damage 3)

DEFENSE
Dodge
9, Parry 8, Toughness 6 / 3 flat-footed
Fortitude 9, Will 8

POWER POINTS
Abilities 54 + Advantages 4 + Defenses 12 + Powers 48 + Skills 20 = 138 Total

COMPLICATIONS
Infamy:
Gambit is a womanizing rogue.
Loner: Remy is a headstrong individual who does not take orders well.
Obsession: A thief at heart, Remy always wants what he can’t have. He especially wants Rogue; only for the fact that she has not been touched by another man.
Prejudice: Remy is a mutant. His red-on-black eyes betray his mutant heritage.
Quirk: Remy speaks with a heavy Cajun accent.

:!: I have issues with Gambit... serious issues. Why was he introduced into the series? He does not bring anything new. The X-Men already had a super-agile character (Nightcrawler) and a thief (Storm). So what purpose does her serve?

Some think he was brought in to be the romantic interest for Rogue. Many shippers think he and Rogue are destined for an eternal love.

This is total bull! Gambit is a womanizer and liar. The only reason he is after Rogue is the fact that He. Can't. Have. Her. He has planty of time to try to get into her good graces, all the while not being able to touch hur. This will batter down her fragile psychological defenses so that he can take advantage of her once her powers are under control. Then.... he will dump her to the side like he has with every other woman in his life.

And his backgroud! OMG!

"I'm a NINJA! From the Bayou! I'm a Louisiana NINJA! I've been fighting ninja all my life! There are two clans of ninja and we kill each other for centuries! Are you from there? No! Then you don't know! YOU DON'T KNOW!"

That's how I picture Gambit... he's a liar. About everything. His background, his motivations, everything.

LOL, dude. That was the greatest anti-Gambit rant I've ever read. I still like him, but you make some wonderful points about him. And the fact that they have really struggled with him since the 90's backs up a lot of your feelings.

Kudos. 8)

Gambit was always odd to me. He was pretty much designed to make '90s fans think he was awesome (trenchcoat, hair, smoking, stubble, ladies' man), but I never gave THAT much of a crap. I didn't HATE him either, but he was just kinda "there" and I could take him or leave him. When I'd mostly stopped reading comics, he kind of ended up all over the place, getting his own series, being dumped off the team for the whole "Marauders" debacle, breaking up & making up with Rogue, etc. I kind of lost interest, and his gimmick did NOT age well- the 2000s were a time for Gambit to just hang around, floating from team to team as a mediocre guy. I liked him in "X-23" as a cynical mentor figure, but that was really it.

Ah, the Weezeeanna ninja. Yeah, Gambit is one of the reasons I quit reading comics during the 90's. You're description pretty much sums him up.

I gotta admit, I sorta liked Gambit. It was Cable and Bishop that I hated.

It is a good rant, oh Prodigious Duck, but I have a problem with your FIRST line.

At my work, there is another gamer. He has been there for seven years longer than I have. Why did my work hire me? We already have a gamer at work. WHAT PURPOSE DO I SERVE?

Oh wait. I guess in real life, there are people who are similar to others. People who have similar interests and hobbies. People who do similar things. They aren't excluded from things because they are similar to someone else. Why shouldn't the X-Men be any different? Honestly, every character being NOTHING like the others is a tad unrealistic in the extreme.

Besides that, each character helps to enrich the story-line and the world they live in. Why SHOULDN'T there be characters with similar powers. Jean Grey and Professor X. Why shouldn't there be another mutant with powers/personality like Beast, Wolverine, Storm, Kitty Pride, or what-have-you?

The only reason, is because people want to read about different people, but that's not too realistic. Sometimes, having the similar character isn't a bad thing.

Just sayin.

But that is the difference between real life and fiction. If I have fictional stories where numerous characters are the same, then I don't feel that much is getting accomplished.

I've made a previous rant regarding how many Marvel characters in the past all have the same personality (the 1960s New Yorker). I just prefer to have diversity in my characters when reading my chosen escapist media.

Up, up, and... oh, look at that: a lawsuit!

GLADIATOR (PL 15)
Real Name:
Kallark

Base of Operations: Shi’ar Throneworld
Affiliation: Imperial Guard
Height: 6’6”; Weight: 595 lbs.
Eyes: Blue; Hair: Dark Blue

Fortitude 17, Will 13

POWER POINTS
Abilities 182 + Advantages 7 + Defenses 8 + Powers 133 + Skills 10 = 340 Total

COMPLICATIONS
Overconfident:
Gladiator is completely aware of how powerful and important he is and this sometimes comes out in his comments, though he is not given to boasting. Gladiator’s powers dwindle if he loses confidence in himself. Should his will be broken, or he suffers a sufficient distraction, all of Gladiator’s Powers are Impaired and his Abilities are Disabled (with corresponding changes to his Defenses and Skills).
Patriot: Gladiator is loyal to the Shi’ar Empire and is loyal to the current ruler. He follows orders, even when faced against those he believes are not evil.
Responsibility: Leader of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard.

 In my Marvel Universe, Gladiator is the child of the Eternal: Thanos. It was the ridiculous scale of power and the purple skin that made the decision.

Fortitude 5, Will 10
* without force field

POWER POINTS
Abilities 50 + Advantages 7 + Defenses 12 + Powers 105 + Skills 11 = 185 Total

COMPLICATIONS
Avatar of the Phoenix/Goblyn Queen:
Jean is destined to become the Phoenix, and extra-dimensional entity that seeks to bring about a new world. Jean’s power has also attracted the attention of an evil entity that manifests itself as the Goblyn Queen.
As the Phoenix, her eyes glow with fire, and her mental powers are boosted. And she has been known to lapse in memory and judgement, as her own personality is overwhelmed by the Phoenix.
As the Goblyn Queen, Jean’s personality is overwhelmed by one calling herself Madelyn Pryor. Her eyes turn black with no visible iris or pupils. She is seductive, but bitter and vengeful.
Motivation: Jean believes in the ideal of humans and mutants living together.
Prejudice: Jean is a mutant.
Relationship: Jean is often torn between the romantic attention of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Logan (Wolverine). She has dated Angel in the past. Her friend and roommate in New York is Misty Knight.
Secret Identity: Jean Grey.

:!: Special thanks to Joshua Dunlow for his 'Avatar of the Phoenix' power idea.

 Jean has come a long way from her origins. She was pretty much the token girl character of the X-Men; passed from one male character to another as a love interest. In my game, she is a dedicated NPC. No one even has the option of playing her.
