The Star Guard is a group of beings, each possessing unique abilities and skills that set them apart from their individual races, from throughout the Lor Republic who act as enforcers of Republic law throughout Republic member systems. They also serve as the personal guard of the Supreme Praetor, the highest ranking member of the Senate, and carries out his/her personal directives. The Guard are also considered to be a special unit within the Republic’s military, performing special and dangerous missions that normal soldiers are unlikely to be able to accomplish and they also aid the governors of conquered worlds in enforcing Republic law.
The formation of the Star Guard is a new project of the Supreme Praetor, recognizing the efforts of the likes of the Freedom League in that a group of uniquely skilled beings might be able to perform better than their standard soldiers. It took several years for the Star Guard to be brought together as the Supreme Praetor was looking for truely unique and different beings to be part of the Guard and thus they have yet to face off against other super-powered beings. So far most of their efforts have been more in line with their military duties (which means that so far they've been dealing with Grue spies and attacks, not that any of that isn't challenging in it's own right).
