"well the restaurant is half gastro pub, half Hooters sports bar, dancing girls and everything." Eva explained as they took an EZ cab to the waterfront location of O'Reillys Restuarant and Bar. "The chefs named Ginger she cooks about as good as Archer shoots, lots of classic amercian, with some italian and comfort foods. Makes a mean meatball sub and an amazing philly cheese steak."

Finally they arrived and as they entered the bustling main dining area they were able to see all the sport memoribilia of the FC sports teams, classily mixed with paraphenalia and autographed pictures of various superheros from freedom city itself. A picture of the Centurion himself held special prominence behind the bar "autographed to Bill and Mary thanks for a great meal Centurion"

After a brief moment in which Eva soaked up the atmosphere a hostest apporached them and guided them to a seat on the outside deck where they had a clear view of the Freedom Bay.

"Excuse me Is Ginger in?" Eva asked before the hostest could leave. "She usualy cooks for me when shes here."

"Yes she is, who should I say is asking?"

"tell her Evas here." she indicated H4ck and Liz "And friends."

The hostest assured her she would, and then left Eva and Liz and Jason to enjoy the atmosphere and good music that played through the restuarants soundsystems which were set up with the multiple TV screens to catch sporting events, concerts, or Super Hero activities as they happened.

"So hows that project coming?" gawd Eva wanted to slap herself for sounding so lame, why was she so bad at small talk?

Warshade

WHAT IS A CHEESE STEAK?

No. We are NOT getting a cheese-steak. It'll be huge and I'll never finish it.

COME ON! IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD. YOU DON'T HAVE TO EAT THE WHOLE THING

No. It's too heavy. I'll be full all night.

SO?

So I hate that. I get all sluggish. We can get some quesadillas or something.

Liz took a seat at the table and made sure Jason sat close. Her mind was more on him than food or sports. "Oh! I'm just upgrading my datapad." Which she had with her, as always. "It needs to be more secure. And more flexible. And I'm working on making the interface more efficient. It's a pretty big project."

The New FORCE Ops [IC: 8]: The World of Shadows

Freedom City, December 21st:

It’s been almost a month since the S.T.A.R. Squad called upon the team to help them deal with the Royals and Keller has still keeping himself distanced from the team.

It does seem that all of you made a good impression on Maddicks at least; in a few interviews that followed he cited FORCE Ops as being largely responsible for keeping the threat to the public that Royals presented at a minimum. Maddicks went on to say that he was glad to have the group around and that they seemed to have more than half a clue as to what they were doing (and given his well-known stance on dealing with non-affiliated heroes that’s a compliment).

On the plus side there was no apparent fallout from the group’s dealing with Bonham, as AEGIS agents showed up at the Anderson building only an hour later with all the legal paperwork that called for all information related to the Royals be turned over, which Keller complied with. Though he didn’t seem very happy to hear how Bonham had chosen to do things in this matter but anything he thought on the matter he kept to himself.

Aurora took something that could be considered a “vacation”, citing that she had a couple of things to do on the other side of the country and she wasn’t entirely sure when she’d be done with them. A few comments she made as to what exactly she was doing gave the impression that whatever she was doing was tied to her former teacher, the mage Zalman, so that could mean any number of possibilities.

A week ago two new members arrived; one was Theo Simons, also known as Mr. Magnificent, finally joined the team after going through all the paperwork and background checks that Keller requires.

The other was a man named Rex Mundi. He’s been around the Anders Building enough for everyone to have run into a few times and talk with him but since the team hasn’t been called out for a job he’s not worked in the field with anyone yet. Though he does seem to be a likeable enough fellow who’s always got an interesting story to tell about a far away country he’s been to or a bit of sleight of hand to show off as a way to either keep his hands busy or stay in practice.

But this morning it seems like it’s time for these two to officially make their public début as part of FORCE Ops as Ethan has called for everyone to assemble in the conference room, in full gear, ASAP.

Susan West - Dovetail

Susan arrived at the conference room in the full Dovetail uniform her helmet under her left arm and her right hand finagling with some wires in her left gauntlet. When she reached her seat at the table she let her helmet fall with a clatter and turned her back to the table to try and get some better light on the gauntlet. Any keen eared member of the team would hear some very creative cursing beneath her breath as she folded the wires in tight and pushed them back inside the gauntlet. She folded a port down started to screw it shut with a dove-feather, she didn’t seem to find the fact that it was an explosive feather the least bit disconcerting.

She took her seat as she made sure that the entire gauntlet was secure and fully functional. There was something strangely unprepared about Susan today. It was an odd sight.

Archer

Danny walks into the conference room visibly upset. Still messing with his mask, he sits down in a huff, barely noticing, much less acknowledging his teammates.

He's spent the last several weeks trying to take his beef with the Southside C's to the next level using "Dovetail tactics", unfortunately they seem to have backfired, with the gang getting the upper hand in their war with the Brotherhood that Danny arranged. He was going to have to ask for help, now.

He lets out a big sigh and centers himself for the briefing and mission to follow.

Eva was hard at work in the lab on the day her two new teamates were supposed to be introduced. She was putting the finishing touches on one of them after pulling an allnighter--on didnt say no to Doc Steele-- as Vivian walked in an took a look around the chaos of the lab.

"Hey hun the meeting starting soon, and is that the NY times crossword puzzle?" she asked looking at the Hyper Genius edition that the paper released 5 years back with the rise of geniuses of Dadelus and Doctor Stratos caliber.

"Yes, completed it last night as a mental exercise." she replied as she finished typing a series of equations into the compter.

"Wow, I cant even pronounce some of these words." Vivian comically tried to wrap her mouth around one Eva finished it for her "What is that, and why does it sound like it hurts?"

"Its the scientific name for a bacterium found in Thran digestive systems that helps break down food." she explained easily drawng an ewww look from Viv.

Finally Eva stood up and activated a view screen "Solomon it's Eva, were on line, streaming data now." as she said this a side screen appeared and data started to scroll down at a staggering rate. A rate at which the handsome gent on the other side of the screen was one of the few in the world who could follow its speed and complexity.

"Datas incoming and receiving no errors, and no corruption detected." Doc Steele replied evenly "Good work Doctor, looks like we fixed it this time." He nodded and smiled at her causing he cheeks to blush "Say Hi to Ethan for me."

"I will Doctor, tell Jake he owes me dinner, In Fiji." she replied evenly and with a hint of mischief as she signed off.

"So wait, you are on a first name basis with Hardcore and his father?" Viv goggled "You need to expain; now." Vivs insistent tone marked that she would not relent on this topic.

"Have to wait im afraid, meeting to go to." Eva shrugged apologetically as she pointed at the clock on the wall, "Need to shower and go."

She smiled as Viv left shooting her a dirty look that said the topic was only shelved for the moment before she stepped out of the Lab and into the facilites showers to wash up. About 15 minutes later she felt refreshed and slipped into her suit leaving the cowl down, before beginning to make her way to the meeting room.

Just as she appoached the room the door suddenly appeared in her line of sight and POW!!

Inside the meeting room people were greeted to the sound of head meeting doorway and Evas voice yelping "OW!! Omgwhattehhell!?" before she walked into the room rubbing her nose and muttering to herself.

"Eva, watch out for the-"

TOO LATE

"-door."

Liz flashed forward to help Eva steady herself. "Have you thought about installing a collision detection module for your armor?"

It had been a long month since their last mission and Liz hadn't been idle. To the shock of anyone who knew her, her datapad was gone. It had been replaced by a pair of goggles with a hi-res display that was wirelessly operated by subtle movements of her fingers. Nearly invisible filaments ran up and down her fingers and covered her palms. They were all connected to a micro-thin processing and communication module on the back of each hand. The main processing was handled by another unit in the slightly bulkier than normal band that held the goggles in place. The whole thing was a result of near constant work during their downtime and was the next best thing to a computer implant. Her costume had also changed a bit, with circuitry-looking designs printed onto it in shades of purple slightly darker and lighter than the costume material itself. Liz felt it made the costume a little more distinctive and less like a simpe uniform. Ni'Tu was a big driver behind this change.

As a result of all the work, Liz hadn't gotten to know the two new members well at all. She still wasn't fully on board with Ethan's hiring of Theo, a move which had really surprised her. The man was simply obnoxious. The fact that 'Tu found him entertaining didn't help either. However, aside from his grating personality, he seemed to be on the level so she was struggling to keep an open mind. Rex Mundi was harder to place. Liz had had lunch with him once but had little interaction with him otherwise.

"Morning, everyone." Liz looked around and noticed Jason wasn't there yet. He'd been out again last night and she hadn't heard anything from him since she got up. Something was going on with him lately and it bothered her but she was too nervous to bring it up. If he wanted her to know something, he'd tell her. There was no point in being nosy and possibly making it worse.

Mr. Magnificent
Theo A. Simons

Theo strode down the hallway toward the meeting room with his phone pressed against his ear. He waved absently to Vivian on the way by and set the Chai he'd picked up at the coffee shop on the Anders' buildings' first floor on her desk, with a quick thumbs up. For once her remembered not to wink, since the scarlet tinted shades concealed the gesture.

Walking into the meeting room, he sighed; "Look, Mr. Magnificent knows he's no Sea King, but Mr. Magnificent is able to lift armored personnel carriers with one hand and is ripped beyond compare. So, Mr. Magnificent will let you mull the offer over, but he thinks it would be a mutual beneficial arrangement...especially after he gets some public exposure."

"Mmmhmmm, well Mr. Magnificent will wait for you to think it over."
As soon as the call ended Theo snarled and crushed the phone. "I lose more phones that way."

Smiling a wide, toothy grin at his teammates, he plopped down in his seat. "Sorry for being late. Hey, Warshade...nice goggles chica. You know if they get internet access, you could call them googles. Just a thought." He shrugs. Turning to Dovetail, he salutes a two finger, Boy Scout style salute. "Mr. Magnificent on deck and reporting for duty ma'am."

Archer

Danny made no reaction to Eva and the door. So long he had been the one, so he didn't find it a little bit funny.

After Magnificent came in and made his scene, Danny mutters "Nah' Google wouldn't have a problem with that."

Rex Mundi

Rex looked at the old warehouse. It was dirty, dark and in need of repairs that'd give Mike Holmes nightmares.

But for the next three months it was his. All his. Admittedly he wasn't supposed to be sleeping there, but what could you do? He didn't have enough money to rent a real office, and renting this warehouse took up the rest of his money.

Still a few days work and the place would look pretty good. A few new walls, a couple windows to look out at the trees and greenery outside, a few chairs and this would probably be the fourth or fifth nicest questionable business space in the city.

It was really just all the cleaning that he'd need to do that was giving him a headache. He was faster than any man had a right to be but even cleaning up real fast was boring when your mind kept pace with your body. He gave the place an appraising eye as he tried to decide how to attack it best.

Then the phone rang. The place didn't have electricity yet, but the phone worked. Priorities were important, and priorities said you couldn't eat if you couldn't get work.

"Rex Mundi speaking, how may I help you?" He said with his best 'impress the client' smile that they'd never see.

The response wasn't what he was hoping for.

"What?!" He barked into the phone as he leaned against the desk, "But, I'm... I wasn't supposed to be working for another week!"

The other side of the phone buzzed at him, "Yes, I can appreciate that, but you don't understand I'm not ready yet."

"No."

"No, I don't have a suit yet! Allegra said it'd be done on Wednesday, and I don't even have a name..."
He paused, "Improvise? You've got to be kidding me."

The voice on the phone hit a flat note.

"Yes, I do want the job, it's just..." He bit his tongue as the person on the other end of the phone laid things out for him, "Fine. Fine, I'll be there but I'm not taking the blame for my appearance."

"Hello?"

Rex sighed and set the headset back on the phone. He had less than an hour to find himself a costume that he could scrape together with the hundred dollars he'd been saving for his groceries. He rushed through the warehouse looking for anything that had been left behind by the previous owner. A box full of old VHS pornography, he shoved that over to the back door for dumpster disposal when he had more time. Another box that had, at one time, held something that rats had turned into a nest. It joined the pornography. Random nails, a few metal poles, a broken broom...

He stumbled over a small box which had the word "Olympics" scrawled on it, and broke it open.

"Oh god, not that... anything but that!" He said out loud as he held up the white spandex suit in front of him.

He wasn't sure which team or what country it was supposed to belong to, it looked like they hadn't gotten to the point of putting anything on the suit yet. He glanced at his watch. Short of risking his identity with some high speed shopping he really didn't have a choice. He ran over to the boxes full of his belongings and started tearing through them willy-nilly. A pair of dirty white runners came out. He rushed over to the sink and cleaned them with an old rag until they were as white as he could get them, then through the boxes some more. A pair of white stage magician's gloves joined the pile. Then a green scarf with some goggles built into them. They'd been perfect for sandstorms because they completely covered his eyes and prevented sand from getting anywhere near them.

After that a set of shin guards and a kneepads joined the pile. They were black. So he had black, white and green. He grabbed a can of spray-paint he'd brought for renovations and quickly spray painted the equipment green and dried them quickly by blowing air at them at high speeds.

He frowned, the outfit still left his head exposed. He dug through his winter stuff until he found an old black balaclava. He dragged some bleach over to the sink and doused the item trying to bleach it as white as he could before he rinsed it, wrung it out, then rinsed it again. He sniffed it, cringed at the heavy bleach smell, then rinsed it a half dozen times more.

"Okay.... okay, let's do this," He tossed his clothes into the corner, then pulled on the costume as quickly as he could. He checked everything one last time then went to look at himself in the bathroom mirror.

"I... I..." He sighed and leaned against the sink, "I look like a giant moron who went costume shopping Halloween night."

He forced himself to look up again. It was horrible. The shoes looked dirty and beat up, the balaclava looked more yellow than white, his gloves didn't fit properly with the sleeves of the suit so his wrists were sticking out and his goggles were shifting every time he turned his head.

Forget fighting evil, he thought, he was too embarrassed to show his face, even masked, looking like this.

He swore and stomped back over to his boxed up belonging and started digging again until he found an old green army satchel. He pulled it over a shoulder and tightened it so it wouldn't move around too much. The he reached inside and pulled out some chalk and started drawing furiously on the ground. He wasn't trying to do any big power hoodoo, and most of what he was trying to accomplish was going to undo itself in about a day. This was acceptable, especially since it made what he was doing that much easier to accomplish.

Temporary was always easier than permanent.

He finished the circle, stepped inside then reached down to infuse the circle with as much of his magic as he could muster. It wasn't much.

He pulled on the wind elemental magic in him to give it a little boost, then opened his eyes and started chanting. A few seconds later and he could feel the suit shifting around him like it was alive. It was unnerving, and unnatural, but still more fun than the time Jameela stuffed garter snakes in his sleeping bag.

And then it was over. He rushed back to the bathroom mirror. The spell had worked it's magic, fusing all of the items together and blending the colours more naturally. Now it looked like a one piece full body suit, golves and boots included, all one shade of white and one shade of green.

Image

He still looked stupid, he decided, but at least he didn't look like he'd raided a second hand store for his costume. He stopped then decided maybe it did, but at least it looked like a classy second hand store.

He checked his watch. Or tried to, it was under the costume and until tomorrow that suit wasn't coming off unless he tore it off. It didn't have any seems or zippers anymore.

"The things I do for a paycheck," He said, shaking his head as he pulled aside a trap door and climbed down into the sewers. He'd gotten lucky in finding a place that lead down into the sewers, and even more so in finding one that had the little raised walkways. It still smelled fowel, but at least he could get into and out of his shop at high speeds without people noticing.

Less than a minute later he was at the door to the Anders building. He was suddenly happy he'd remembered his pass key because he couldn't just take his mask off to prove who he was at the moment. He made his way up to the briefing room and swallowed his poor aching pride before he walked in.

Good lord, this was embarrassing.

"Sorry I'm late," He offered as he walked in and took a seat.

He looked at the others. most of them weren't wearing masks. Was he supposed to be not wearing a mask? He touched the side of his face. Well, it was a little late for that. Ooops.

He did his best to sit in his chair, look professional, and not look like he wanted to crawl under the table.

Which he really, really did.

Why did they have to call him in early?

Mr. Magnificent
Theo A. Simons
HP 2

Theo ignored Archers muttered comment. Obviously, it was meant to go as unnoticed editorial commentary and Theo wasn't about to point out the bowman should have read the email Ethan sent out regarding his powers. Of course it was possible Archer knew Theo's hearing could pick up his comment and was trying to provoke him. Either way, Theo could let it slide for now. There was no reason to be labeled a troublemaker right from the start.

Turning to Warshade, he smiled again. "It's your choice, oh purple-garbed paragon of pulchritude, but when the opportunity for a lucrative marketing deal that could earn you plenty of money to privately fund any research you might be pursuing passes you up and you end up grovelling to officious jackboots and lickspittles like that Bonham character for payola, don't say Mr. Magnificent didn't try to gently guide you to the path of freedom from da man's boot on your neck."

"Whoa. What a run on sentence. Mr. Magnificent's english teacher would be so disappointed."

Turning to the newest arrival, Theo stuck his hand out to shake. "Welcome to the land of love and brotherhood, where no science-types ever belittle a brother for not having their level of intellect."

"Is that a purse?"

Rex Mundi

Rex had learned early on that getting upset at somebody poking fun at you never made them stop, and rarely ever made you look any better for the effort.

Your options were usually ignore it with mixed results, deny it which usually just got the other person even more invested in poking fun at you, or you could have some fun at your own expense to defuse the situation.

"What? This? No no, this is not just a purse. This is my badass meter," Rex says with a good natured chuckle, "I mean, anybody can dress up in a scary costume, or carry huge guns to look like a bad ass... but at the point when bad guys are running away from me and my purse? That... is when I know I'm a badass."

He leans over and stage whispers, "And that's when I break out the battle pumps."

He tried to wink, then realized the goggles would obscure that, so he just wriggled his eyebrows.

He gave Archer a little wave, "Thanks. Looks like they brought in everybody today?"

Susan West - Dovetail

“Mags, stop making fun of his purse.” Susan said as she fiddled with something inside her helmet. She finally looked up and around to make sure that everyone was there. She raised an eyebrow at H4ck’s lateness but didn’t say anything.
