Real Name: Duncan Summers
Height: 6'
Weight: 190 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Complications:
Weakness: Like all other Black Court Vampires, Nevermore is vulnerable to attacks made with items made of silver. Any injury inflicted with a silver weapon bypasses his Impervious Toughness and cannot be healed by the vampire’s Regeneration and must instead heal normally.
Weakness: Like all other Black Court Vampires, Nevermore is vulnerable to UV radiation (or as it is more commonly known, sunlight), and after three rounds of constant exposure they suffer a dying condition.
Background: The life of Duncan Summers in the alternate dimension he comes from closely mirrors that of the “prime” one’s life. For many years Duncan Summers fought all manner of super villains as the original Raven and was a long-time member of the Freedom League, often acting as the team’s tactical advisor and realist among the idealists. Then he retired partly because of a very serious injury gained during his last show down with Dr. Sin and to focus on his wife and newly born daughter only for his wife to die years later when Dr. Sin returned from death to kidnap his granddaughter in an effort to make her his heir.
Decades later he would open Claremont Academy and began teaching young metahumans how to control their powers as well as use them responsibly, which would lead to the formation of the Next-GEN. During the course of their adventures the would-be teen heroes all found themselves going to a local club that opened up catering to the youth of Freedom City. In truth it was a front for the returned vampire Lenore, an old foe of Duncan’s somehow returned from the dead.
Her plan had been simple – careful manipulation of the members of the Next-GEN until they were her willing slaves and hold them for ransom so that Duncan would have to submit to her demands of joining her in undeath.
Here is where the dimensions differ; in the “prime reality” the members of Next-GEN were able to fight off Lenore’s mental manipulations and prevent her from transforming their headmaster, while in this version’s dimension they were unable to stop her from turning Duncan. However his will was strong enough that he destroyed her within moments of his awakening as a vampire and save his students. Following his transformation Duncan spun a cover story of his developing a rare skin condition that made him extremely sensitive to being in the sun for any amount of time but he continued to be the Headmaster of Claremont Academy and for a short while it seemed to have returned to normal, well normal for Claremont that is.
But then, only a few months later, the vampire lord Dracula came to Freedom City in search of a bride and he chose Serena Vervain, the magic manipulating student known as Seven. Much like on the prime reality, the Next-GEN objected and tried to stop the Lord of the Vampires but they had little effect and again, when Duncan confronted Dracula he tried a number of gadgets he’d prepared ahead of time (excluding the UV grenades that is) and when Dracula showed he was able to withstand most of that Duncan saw no other option and launched himself at the Lord of the Vampires using his own vampiric abilities.
Needless to say this was a shocking surprise to Dracula and Duncan was able to gain the upper hand and destroy him. But that was his mistake; by killing Dracula in the way that he did, Duncan absorbed his essence which washed away his remaining humanity leaving nothing more than another highly intelligent and powerful vampire. Soon the members of the Next-GEN were turned into Duncan’s vampire spawn and it took the combined efforts of the Freedom League and the Sentinels to drive them out of Freedom City.
In the intervening years Duncan learned much about magic in an effort to increase his personal power, making him a larger threat than any other vampire that had come before him. Many a mage was left dead and drained of blood in Duncan’s quest and he ended up virtually eliminating the members of the Brimstone House to the point that the few surviving members abandoned the organization rather than attempt to face the vampiric mage that now called himself Nevermore. Then something unforeseeable happened – Eldrich and the Lodge formed an alliance, setting aside the differences the organization and the Master Mage of Earth had held against one another for just under four decades to put an end to Nevermore.
After a two month campaign of losing lairs, hideouts, and bases, as well as allies, minions and resources Nevermore found himself forced into a position he’d never been in before – a losing one. Realizing his options were slowly dwindling away as the sounds of the Lodge’s agents drew closer the vampire mage opened a portal to and without knowing what was waiting for him on the other side of it but figuring that it had to be better than what was coming for him, he jumped through it.
Nevermore found himself on a world where things were much different than they had been back on his world. Here his life had taken a different path and Nevermore realized that nobody would easily figure out exactly who he was. A dark smile formed under his mask and Nevermore went about figuring out just exactly where he was so he could get started on building the first of what would be many lairs where he would hatch several different plans as well as recruit new minions to carry out those plans for him.
