I think it's cool myself. It's amazing how many vastly different builds you can get out of a power-type.

Seriously, do these super-powers make me look fat?

Nice Tangent builds T-man. I always liked the Tangent take on the DCU...well, until they shuffled off all the interesting ones to plop Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman out front again.
I thought the first run of Tangent was all kinds of awesome personally. A great concept really overall and I felt that it was well done, the writers really got into the idea of 'You only know the names.'

The second wave was hit and miss as far as I care & that really was a sad thing because I totally got the feeling that they shoehorned the 'big names' into the setting. Wonder Woman was just a mess to read, boring overall and to this day I still have no clue about anything about the character aside from 'she's super-powerful with her awesome fighting skills and ability to alter reality if she wonders about something intensely enough'.

~meh~

Power Girl should have had more of Power Girl in it, instead of like the last 3-4 pages. Otherwise it reads like the 'Metal Men ride again' to me.

I could go on but honestly those two are the best examples of the worst from Tangent second line and I think the less said about them the better.

Yeah, I loved the creativity of it all. In fact those comics are some of the few that I've held onto all these years later after having stopped collecting.

Real Name: Yao Fei
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 160 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Issues With Co-Workers: Accomplished Perfect Physician has a tense relationship with August General in Iron, while they can work together neither man likes the other and they often times avoid one another if not assigned to the same team for a mission.

Power Loss: Accomplished Perfect Physician loses all of his powers when he is unable to make vocal sounds.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Secret Identity: Accomplished Perfect Physician's identity as Yao Fei isn’t known to the public.

Background: Yao Fei was born a peasant in the Anhui Province where he had dreams of becoming a doctor but lacked the money for medical school, so he enlisted in the army instead to get the training he needed. When his unit was sent to suppress an uprising in Gyantse Tibet, Yao killed a monk named Tenzin Cering. Horrified at what he'd done, he deserted his unit and was shot in the back by his commanding officer.

When he woke up Yao learned that he’d been saved by a local medicine man who told Yao that his son, Tenzin, was supposed to be the seventeenth man to hold the position of the "Accomplished Perfect Physician" but since Tenzin was now dead because of Yao’s actions that meant that Yao would have to take his place. Tenzin then tossed Yao through a magical portal, wherein he was filled with the memories and powers of the past Physicians. The experience both humbled him and instilled in him a desire to atone for his misdeed and he set off to use his newfound abilities for the people of China.

As the new Accomplished Perfect Physician, Yao was branded an outlaw and an enemy of the state for several years before he brokered a deal with the government that would see him join Tiger Squad in return for all the records of his past crimes purged by the government.

With simple vocal sounds, the Accomplished Perfect Physician can produce a variety of magical effects, such as physical or mental paralysis, force fields, the redirection of energies, healing, destruction of matter, and earthquakes. The diplomat of the team, the Physician appears to be a collected individual with well-developed people skills. He does not get along well with his team leader, August General in Iron, who sees Yao only as an irreverent deserter.

Real Name: Fang Zhifu
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 300 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Issues With Co-Workers: August General in Iron has a tense relationship with Accomplished Perfect Physician, while they can work together neither man likes the other and they often times avoid one another if not assigned to the same team for a mission.

Reputation ~Will Cross Any Line: August General in Iron is willing to use any means necessary to accomplish his missions, bring back his people safely, and protect the Republic of China.

Responsibility: August General in Iron believes that it is his duty to protect the people of China no matter what.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Secret Identity: August General in Iron's identity as Fang Zhifu isn’t known to the public.

Weakness: Due to his Biometal skin, August General in Iron is vulnerable to magnetic based attacks.

Background: Fang Zhifu is a former member of one of China’s Special Ops units and was trained to handle the most extreme possible situations possible. Fifteen years ago, his unit was sent to investigate what turned out to be a Grue ship that crashed in Qinghai province. The Grue wiped out his unit with a flesh-melting pathogen weapon, which Fang barely survived by injecting himself with a counter-agent that slowed the degeneration. Chinese scientists subjected him to special treatments which saved his life, but also endowed him with superhuman strength and caused his skin to grow iron-like plates. He was then recruited into China's new metahuman division Tiger Squad, where he was then supplied with a staff that can easily slice through metal either by charging the weapon’s ends or unleashing a bolt of energy.

August General in Iron is considered to be the prime field leader of Tiger Squad (meaning that he is the highest ranking of all those who act as field leaders and the others are to follow his orders) and he is accountable for all command decisions made in the field by the government overseers that supervise Tiger Squad. As a lifelong soldier, August General despises the Accomplished Perfect Physician for his irreverent attitude and for deserting the army which can makes things tense between the two men from time to time.

Real Name: Chan Ho
Height: 5’9”
Weight: Unknown
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Unknown

Complications:
Disability: It's self-imposed, but to make things more challenging for himself, Best Tiger wears a blindfold all the time even though he can actually see.

Motivation: Protecting his China and proving to everyone that he is the Best Tiger.

Power Loss: Best Tiger loses his Gun Fu without guns to use or if he runs out of ammo.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Secret Identity: Best Tiger's identity isn’t known to the public.

Background: Chan Ho was the only survivor of his family's (his parents and siblings) deaths at the hands of the Triad to prevent his father from testifying about witnessing a mid-ranking member of the Triad killing a rival. Chan survived because he'd snuck out earlier in the evening to go out with his friends only to return home and find his family slaughtered.

Vowing revenge at the graves of his family, Chan became a criminal using a different name so he could work his way into the Triad to find who was responsible for murdering his family. Over the years he developed a large set of skills that allowed him to move higher and higher in the Triad organization until he was chosen to become an elite enforcer; it was there that Chan developed his impressive combat skills, both martial and with a gun, and that he learned that his teacher was the man responsible for killing his family.

After learning all the man had to teach him, Chan turned his skills against the older man finally gaining his revenge. After that he used money he'd stolen from the Triad over the years working for them to set up his war against crime, deciding that to use the skills he'd learned to ensure that no one else would have to suffer a loss like his at the hands of criminals. Calling himself Best Tiger, Chan waged a one-man war against not only the Triad but all criminals operating in Hong Kong and within five years was a feared man amongst the criminal underworld.

The Chinese Government spent over a year tracking Best Tiger down and forced him to become part of Tiger Squad; otherwise they would send him to jail where he would be unable to pursue his quest. Deciding to take advantage of being backed by the Government, Best Tiger agreed without argument and during the first few months of joining Tiger Squad he learned many of their secrets (both of the group and their government handlers) which he then used to blackmail his overseers into allowing him to resume his efforts against criminals in Hong Kong (the vast majority of the other members of Tiger Squad are unaware of how Best Tiger managed to achieve this; only Accomplished Perfect Physician and August General in Iron know the whole story).

As a result Best Tiger doesn't perform much of the public relations work that the other members of Tiger Squad do, and he is thought by the public to be a pretender placed on the group by the Government. Which Best Tiger is happy to allow his opponents to think; after all, what better place to hide himself than in plain sight?

Real Name: Yang Kei-Ying
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 172 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Seven Brothers: There are times when the goals and ambitions of one or more of the Seven Deadly Brothers are at odds with the rest.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Secret(s): His true history and the fact he is immortal.

Secret Identity: Seven Deadly Brothers' identity as Yan Kei-Ying isn't known to the public.

Violence Is The Answer: Seven Deadly Brothers always tries to use his fists (or feet sometimes) as the answer to every problem he encounters.

Background: Yang Kei-Ying, who is known as the Seven Deadly Brothers, was born in poverty in the Fujian Province over 300 years ago. He was a soldier in service to Emperor Yongzheng in 1723, and took part in the destruction of one of several Shaolin Temples. One of the grandmasters, Bak Mei, defected to the Emperor and helped destroy the second temple. Yang was impressed with Bak Mei's skill and wanted to learn kung fu himself, but Bak Mei laughed at him and thought him unpromising when he approached the grandmaster asking to be taken on as his student.

Yang then deserted the army, heading. to the school of the Seven Scribes of the Cloudy Satchel, seven Taoist sorcerers in the mountains near Song Shan. Yang begged to become a pupil and fed the sorcerers all manner of excuses and lies for all the misdeeds of his past, but the sorcerers saw through him and placed a curse on him as punishment for his evil actions. They placed within him seven lifetimes worth of knowledge of kung-fu, which resulted in Yang gaining the ability to split off six duplicates of himself; in total each one is a grandmaster of one of the seven schools (Crane, Dragon, Eagle Claw, Leopard, Praying Mantis, Snake, & Tiger) and said that he would not die until he had atoned seven times for every life he took while being a soldier. The sorcerers also placed a lust for violence large enough for all seven Yangs then sent him back to slaughter Bak Mei and the soldiers who had destroyed the Shaolin temples. Centuries later, he was discovered by the Chinese government and recruited into Tiger Squad, forcing Yang to fabricate his origin; claiming that he received his powers from an old mystic whom he saved from a beating.

Complications:
Doesn’t Speak The Language: The Shaolin Robot is only capable of speaking in I-Ching and to date only Accomplished Perfect Physician is able to understand what it is saying.

Not Of This Century: The Shaolin Robot was originally built centuries ago and has only been activated within the last ten years, as a result it does not fully understand many of the societal habits and customs of people.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Background: When the First Emperor of China commissioned the construction of his tomb, a brilliant engineer by the name of Lao Yuqi built a hundred clockwork automatons to serve as tomb guards. The vain and jealous emperor ordered that Lao be entombed with him upon his death so that his genius would never serve another patron. Before dying of thirst, Lao reprogrammed one of the automatons with his own insights, values and priorities and gave it a semblance of free will.

Thousands of years later, when the tomb was uncovered by archaeologists, the automatons went on a rampage in an attempt to topple the Communist government and restore imperial rule except for the one reprogrammed by Lao; that automaton tried to fight against the others despite being greatly outnumbered. When Tiger Squad appeared on the scene they quickly deduced the difference in Lao’s automation and together they defeated the rampaging automations.

Taken back to the Chinese government, who decided to place it within Tiger Squad (so they could keep tabs on it and to make sure this was not some kind of ruse) and given the name Shaolin Robot. Eventually the automation was finally able to communicate thanks to the efforts of Accomplished Perfect Physician and Best Tiger while government scientists upgraded it with Grue technology to replace its archaic weapons once its loyalties were proven.

Real Name: Xu Tao
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 181 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Loyalty To The Old Gods: Celestial Archer has been tasked by the old gods to remind the people of them, thus increasing the number of worshippers they have and increasing their power.

Secret: Tiger Squad is actually ran by the Chinese government and military instead of the actual members.

Secret Identity: Celestial Archer's identity as Xu Tao isn't known to the public.

Background: As a teenager, Xu Tao sold souvenirs at the foot of Mount Tai but after his father’s business was shut down y corrupt police, he joined a gang to support his family. He was not a good thief, however, and a botched robbery landed his fellow gang members in jail. When they were released, they sought his death. They chased him to an old temple below Mount Tai. While hiding behind a tree, Tao was swallowed up by the earth, and found himself in a cavern where he found the Celestial Bow of Yi.

The magical bow begged Tao to take it as his own, as it was dying after four thousand years of disuse. When Tao picked it up, he was transformed into the Celestial Archer and granted Yi the Archer’s godlike archery skills. After chasing away his former gang, he instinctively fired an arrow at the moon, creating a magical bridge that took him to the home of the Chinese gods. The gods tasked him to serve as their agent on Earth, to inspire the Chinese and remind them of the old gods, whose worship was suppressed by the Communist government.

The Celestial Archer has unerring aim capable of shooting arrows charged with a mysterious energy, or that can turn day into night. He also has been trained in the use of his weapon by Yi himself (a zen master of the weapon) and thus possesses uncanny aim as well as above average visual senses.

Xu is an irreverent character, disrespectful of August General's authority and on good terms with Accomplished Perfect Physician. He considers his role in the Great Ten as secondary to his divine mission, something which has landed him in trouble in the past when he has put his divine mission ahead of the goals of the powers in charge of Tiger Squad's.

Grue Drone:

Skills: Expertise [Soldier/Cover Job] 3 (+3), Insight 3 (+3), Perception 3 (+3)

Advantages: Close Attack, Defensive Roll, Improved Initiative, Ranged Attack

Powers: Drone Physiology: Morph 3 [humanoids]
Link To The Meta-Mind: Senses 1 [Communication Link/w Meta-Mind]

Offense: Initiative +3
Melee Attack +3
Ranged Attack +3

Defense: Dodge +3
Parry +3
Toughness +3*/+2 [*Defensive Roll]
Fortitude +5
Will +0

Costs: Attributes 16+ Skills 3+ Advantages 4+ Powers 16+ Defenses 6= 45 pts.

Notes: The lowest Grue caste is that of the drones; warriors with only limited awareness and metamorphic abilities who are directed by members of the higher castes. While drones are able of acting on their own and without supervision, they require the mental powers of the Meta-Mind for true coordination and initiative. In the past, Lor Mentats have interfered with this link which is another reason why the Unity has been unable to launch an all-out assault against the Lor Republic.
Grue Metamorph:

Metamorph Psionics: Comprehend 2 [speak & understand all languages]

Offense: Initiative +5

Defense: Dodge +4
Parry +4
Toughness +2
Fortitude +4
Will +4

Costs: Abilities 24+ Skills 9+ Advantages 1+ Powers 46+ Defenses 10= 90 pts.

Comments: Over time drones mature, developing a greater awareness becoming a member of the Metamorph; the Grue's commissioned caste. Metamorphs are as intelligent as humans and thus as skilled, but unlike the Drones they have fully developed shape changing powers. Combined with their parasitic ability they are sent to infiltrate alien cultures to prepare the way for eventual invasion and conquest.

Metamorphs posses limited telepathic abilities; they are little more than psychic parasites, feeding on the neural energies of their prey which allows them to learn more about their victim so they can mimic them more effectively. The Metamorph's parasitic ability reduces their victims’ awareness of any danger and quickly places them in a comatose state of suspension. That allows the Metamorph to replace them with both sufficient memories to convincingly imitate their victims and no worries of easy discovery.

I always wanted to play a Grue I find them extremely interesting. Never really had the chance though.

I know what you mean, there are a few options if one were to play one; there's the straight out rogue metamorph (basically Pseudo lite on a PL 10/150 pp) or a Drone with some other powers/skills mixed with a fairly broad Morph [humanoids]. Course I've also used the idea of Grue-Human hybrids with a couple of characters; Masquerade & Morph.

You could also go with a rogue Grue experiment. Sort of like Meta-Grue, but turned coat and working against the Grue hegemony.

Real Name: Unknown
Height: 6’
Weight: 280 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Honor: Demolisa owes the Shadow Academy for helping her recover from when she first arrived on Earth (as she'd been badly injured during her journey across dimensions) and stays with them until she has repaid that debt.

Motivation: Demolisa lives for the glory of battle, upon which she bases her code of warrior's honor.

Proud Wounds: Demolisa is proud of all the scars she carries from past battles but her favorite is her blinded right eye.

Background: There is little information about the teenaged girl who answers to the name of Demolisa or her connection to a 'Shadow Academy'. AEGIS technicians have been able to gather DNA evidence from several of the scenes of crimes Demolisa has been a part of and have determined that she somehow is from the Terminus. But as to how she came to Earth or how she came to associate with her teammates is still unknown. Based on comments she recently made to Diamond (Richard Dunn) during a fight between the two of them, it seems that Demolisa feels that she owes a debt to those that run the Shadow Academy and only stays with them because where she comes from such things are paid back as soon as possible.

What she will do with herself once that debt has been paid back it is unknown what Demolisa will do with herself.

Based on a build by Kreuzritter.

Complications:
Involuntary Transformation: Water can dilute Blackout's body, rendering her unable to affect the physical world effectively.

Vulnerable: Blackout's oil-like body is very flammable and if hit by a flame/heat based attack she suffers secondary damage from it.

Background: Nothing about the past of Blackout is known to members of law enforcement. She seems to be something of a secondary leader to her teammates but still answers to Brother Blood and Esper as the rest of them do. Recently Blackout faced off against Epitaph (aka Melissa Graves) of the Albright Group in a odd capture the flag styled game thanks to the manipulations of the criminal Roulette (who runs the House, a criminal operation that specializes in superhuman fights that are wagered on mostly by the criminal underworld). Despite Blackout's efforts to hide her flag within her liquid body Epitaph was able to get the better of her a few times thanks to all of the shadows in and was able to take Blackout's flag.

Hair: Orange w/ black stripes
Eye Color: Yellow (cat-like)

Complications:
Loyalty: Khan is devoted to carrying out Brother Blood’s wishes.

Temper: Because of his animalistic nature, Khan has trouble keeping his beast-like rage held in check.

Background: Nothing about Khan's past is known to law enforcement. His accent gives the impression he is either not of American heritage or else he is first generation American for his family.

He's made a couple of appearances with a group of teenaged metahumans who have been heard to say they are part of a "Shadow Academy" but the law enforcement community has been so far unable to prove that such an organization exists. To date Khan and his teammates have been following the directions of a man that’s called Brother Blood and committing various minor supercrimes. Recently Khan faced Rebound (aka Graham Clark) of the Albright Group in a race after the Albright teens were kidnapped by Roulette and forced to compete for the House (a criminal operation that specializes in superhuman fights that are wagered on mostly by the criminal underworld).

While Rebound was focused on winning the race, Khan had been instructed to push Rebound in combat as much as he possibly could. But despite Khan's efforts Rebound was able to not only hold his own but develop a large enough lead that when Khan feel victim to one of the many traps set up in the jungle the two of them had been dropped into he easily won the race.

Nice builds for the Albright crews' latest opponents...or most of 'em anyway. Under most circumstances this is a pretty formidable bunch. We're kind of lucky most of the challenges in Roulette's arena favored creativity as well as pure power.

Thanks.

Mostly I was tired of sitting on all the newer members of the Shadow Academy I've got sitting around in my files for the setting and I figured since these few had already had their 'first appearance' I'd go ahead and post them now.

One thing I wanted to do with the fights for the Albright crew is try and make them not "just fight 'til someone can't go on' styled, I wanted to try and allow for some creativeness. The trick was picking who to put in what 'game' and who their opponent would be. Granted I couldn't do that with all of them so I tried to make them a bit interesting and different as I could (looking at Richard & Sean here), and I have to admit I've been happy with how most of the S.A. performed and impressed by the PCs creativeness.

I really liked the variety of the challenges too. In fact I really enjoyed Graham's I was surprised that it worked out like it did. I honestly thought that Graham was going to have to fight Mufasa up a pyramid for a photo finish. I kind of wished that I would've had to have tried and trick Mufasa into a trap lol.

I think that Melissa's ended much to quickly though. That could've been drawn out and played with a lot more. I would've loved to have gotten some more characterization out of Blackout. I hope we see these guys again.

I liked how mine went. It wasn't so much winning the chess match as how much her opponent and Roulette could take of Keisha when she's not feeling cooperative with the situation at all. They didn't last three games. There is a reason why most of Keisha's kidnappers practically throw her to the cops when she's through with them.

Personally, I hope she and Zero meet again. The two of them have something of a rapport with each other now and Zero probably is interested enough in her to maybe take her up on the offer of teaching her how to play chess, so he can have a reasonably good game.

And I'd really like to see Demolisa and Richard interact more. Seems like that girl needs a break.
