According to the Radio Times (AFAIK, the British equivalent of TV Guide), Torchwood is getting a BBC2 showing on the Wednesday after the BBC3 Sunday night showing.

Which is nice for non-digiatally endowed British fans but not much use to the Yanks.

I was talking to a friend this evening who's substantially more media-savvy than I am (he's got sci-fi related contacts out of the wazoo) and he was saying that the US Sci-Fi channel are in the process of buying the rights to Torchwood.

I can't say it with 100% certainty but he's generally 90-95% spot on with Who related info.

A relatively spoiler free review of the first two episodes of Torchwood.

It's a strong beginning (the first episode has a belter of a ending) and the whole production has the same high production values as Dr. Who. The plots (basic serial killer storry followed by alien nymphomaniac on the loose story) are interesting and the characters are already fairly well developed.

The show is definitely not for kids though, between bad language, sex violence and gratuitous Welsh accents it's definitely a post-watershed show.

All in all, a strong start to a interesting show.

X-Files, set in Wales, with a very british sense of humour.

Some cliches creeping in really early, and some unoriginality (2 ep has a plot with some marked similarities to an x-files plot). Enourmous plot-holes and a massive lack of common sense.

BUT

Despite that, it was damned good fun. Its not supposed to be highbrow after all, just entertaining, and that, it definately was.

Definately not aimed at your standard "Doctor Who" audience, what with all the language, violence and sex. Which is fun in some ways, but on the other hand, by kicking out the kids havn't they just lost a huge segment of their potential viewers? Hope that doesn't cripple its ratings and lead to it getting canned.

As a update of sorts, overnight ratings for the Torchwood double are that they were the third and fourth highest ratings in British TV history for a digital only showing (after a pair of football matches).

It's starting to sound like the show is going to be big and won't do a Robin Hood, which is hemmorhaging viewers by the week (not that I watch it, it's on the same time as NCIS so it didn't stand a chance).

Well I saw it last night and I felt it was ok. I did have an inkling about the second in command as the actress is also in Rome so what was she going to do as both things are running ?

And at the end of the first episode there is also a surprise about Captain Jack that I was not expecting. Liked the references back to Dr Who.

The alien who ripped the guy's throat out was good as was the explanation as to why it was wearing normal clothes.

The alien nymphomaniac was an unusual idea and how they got rid of it.
I think that it can do better though. We shall see.

The script was full of one liners, some worked, mostly the cops.
Captain Jack, well I want to know what happened after the Daleks
The references to the Dalek and Cybermen invasions in London, good reference.
The male sidekick, didnt like him.
actually quite expilcit for a BBC show and DEFINATLY not one for the kids!
