Description:

Rosa is an athletic Hispanic woman who appears to be in her mid to late twenties. Her long black hair is often worn up and she has intense blue eyes. In combat she dresses in an armored jumpsuit with many of her weapons secured to it. In civilian life she tends to dress in designer, yet tasteful, clothing. While an attractive woman she often comes across as cold and methodical, saving true emotions for those she trusts best.

Background:

In late 1998 a young woman was found half-dead outside of Baja, Mexico. She was suffering from severe dehydration, starvation, and with a large number of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. It took her nearly three months to recover, and when she did she had no memories prior to waking up in the hospital. All she knew was that she had violent nightmares where she was immobile and men and women in white hovered over her. One man in the nightmares provoked a strong emotional response from her, she couldn’t remember him, but she began to think that he was the one who led the other scientists. When she finally left the hospital she took a name for herself, hoping it would be temporary, since then she has gone by the name Rosalind Ramirez.

Rosa tried to start a life in Baja, but on the way home from her job she was assaulted by a man. Without thinking she lashed out, disarming the man and snapping his neck with her bare hands. She stood in shock until she was spotted. An instinctual fear welled up inside of her and she ran away. Without thinking she returned to her apartment, packed her few belongings and crossed the border into California.

In the United States she once again tried to set up a normal life, something made easier by the fact that she was fluent in English without knowing it. Her simmering temper made it hard for her to hold down a real job, and on numerous occasions she narrowly avoided assault charges. Eventually however, she found a job that suited her perfectly, a bail bondsman. She proved to have an uncanny knack with weapons, tactics, and in subduing people much larger than herself. Naturally there was originally concern about her being “just a woman”, but the beating she laid on the co-worker who uttered those words quickly dismissed any concerns about her ability to do the job.

After being a bail agent for two years she went on the trail of bail jumper who was a former Green Beret. Not only was the man a seasoned veteran in his physical prime, but he was a member of a right wing paramilitary organization. Rosa decided to go after him alone. The result was astounding. Rosa slipped in unnoticed, and reached the building where her target was staying. However she was discovered and the alarm awakened more than two dozen of the organization’s guards. Then someone said something that Rosa still can’t remember. The rest was a blur, and when she came to all twenty-four men were either dead or unconscious, and her target was hanging from her hand beaten within an inch of his life. Rosa returned with her target unsure of what had overcome her.

Within two weeks of returning from that job Rosa received a visit from an army colonel named Smith. He represented a Special Forces unit that was looking for exceptional new recruits. He hinted heavily at having information as to Rosa’s true identity and hinted that if she willing joined the unit she would be given that information. She joined in a heartbeat.

In the six years since then Rosa has served with distinction aware that despite her natural talent and skills that there is something much more brutal lurking in the back of her mind. That knowledge, combined with her continuing nightmares, has made it hard for her to achieve a seemingly normal life when she’s not on duty. Her last boyfriend, Jimmy, learned this the hard way when he stumbled home drunk one night and actually hit Rosa. She broke his arm in three places, and shattered his nose. Part of her truly wants to know who she used to be, while another part of her is afraid that the knowledge would be too much for her mind to handle.

Sweet! You're back!

One question: How does the Doctor's Protection get a -1 Flaw if it's Sustained? Shouldn't it be the same cost as a Permanent Protection? Or did you intend it to have a Concentration duration?

Otherwise, very interesting character.

Background:

Doctor Cameron Hartforge has a long history of genetically altering animals and selling the resulting. For example his angry, razor clawed, and steel skinned “Devil Dogs” were very popular with super villains in the 1960s and 70s. When he approached Twilight and offered the crime lord his services the swordsman knew that Hartforge wanted something from him so he decided to use the opportunity to his advantage.

He requested that Hartforge breed a monster that he could build his new Syndicate Seven around. Hartforge simply smiled and agreed to Twilight’s terms. The process took nearly four years, during which Twilight was less than friendly with the scientist. However the time was being well spent, Hartforge poured over every animal based creation, Chimeras as he called them, he’d ever made picking out the best traits of each chimera. This proved to be quite effective as each chimera had its strongest traits enhanced far beyond what nature intended.

When Hartforge finally unveiled his creation to Twilight the criminal mastermind no longer doubted Dr. Hartforge’s commitment. The resulting creature was eight feet tall, had the horns of an antelope, the tusks of a walrus, the teeth and eating habits of a lion, the speed of a cheetah on meth, claws that could maul a tank, a rock-like bullet proof hide, the ability to exhale a substance not unlike pepper spray, the ability to ignite said substance with an organ on the roof of its mouth, and a really mean disposition. Twilight dubbed this creation Behemoth and quickly put him to work.

Hartforge had worked his trademark mental conditioning on the beast. While it could not be expected to carry out complex missions it would faithfully follow out any orders given to him by Twilight and Doctor Hartforge.

Since that day whenever Twilight wants to make a statement he unleashes Behemoth. The beast stalks a target with uncanny stealth for as long as it takes before attacking. These attacks are always very vicious, and very destructive. Usually the authorities only find pieces of the targets as Behemoth keeps the rest for himself. After a dozen or so of these attacks befell people or organization who crossed Twilight word got out, unless you wanted to be mauled by his pet, you steered clear of Twilight.

Even today, five years later, Twilight still favors using Behemoth. He’s a powerful weapon, and Twilight knows that he can control the beast. He’ll often hold court with the monster sleeping at his feet, adding to terror that most people feel when meeting the man.

While Twilight does trust Behemoth he knows full well that if Hartforge turns on him his creation will as well. This is of course Hartforge’s plan, when he finally turns the tables on Twilight he intends to use Behemoth, as well as other surprises, to subdue or kill Twilight while Doctor Hartforge can finish creating his Omega Man.

Until then Twilight’s enemies will continue to look over their shoulder every time they hear a growl.

Nice update on Silent Strider, although her Drive and Pilot skills total bonuses are plagued by the annoying cool smilie.

And Behemoth is definately a terror to face in combat, I think even the Hulk would have his hands full trying to take down this brute. Very scary and very unique idea for his appearance.

Background:

Denise Reilly was your Catholic school girl typical young girl. Her parents were a little on the conservative side, but they loved their only child dearly. The quiet girl had trouble in social situations, but the support she received at home helped her cope with social problems.

Her life changed drastically however when she hit puberty. Her brown hair started to turn crimson, she began to inexplicably develop a deep tan, and began to always run a fever. At first her parents took her to all manner of doctors in order to understand what was wrong with her. The doctors were entirely stumped, and then the really weird symptoms started to appear.

Two horns sprouted from her temples, she grew a tail, her tan skin turned blood red, she discovered that her hair began to move like a fire, and she began to get feint every time she walked into church. At this point it was clear to Denise’s parents that possessed her by some kind of demon. Being good Catholics they did the only thing they could do… call a priest.

The exorcism that followed seemed like a spoof of the events from The Exorcist. The holy water burst into flame in the father’s hand. The priest kept on waiting for Denise to say something horrible so he could be riled up, instead she was perfectly polite. Two days later the priest left totally frustrated and leaving the Reilly family very confused.

Despite the Exorcism’s failure there was nothing really wrong with Denise so her parents eventually let her return to school. What was once an awkward social situation got much worse. The students openly mocked Denise, and the teachers regarded her with barely disguised disgust. Denise would have retreated to the comfort of her home life, but that comfort wasn’t there.

Her parents had seen how little happened during the exorcism and began to ask themselves many questions. Why couldn’t the priest expel this evil from their daughter? Via conversation the two of them came to believe there were one of two explanations. The first was that Denise’s mother, Kate, had been unfaithful and laid with of all things a demon. The other explanation was that Denise did something wicked knowingly and had in effect given her soul to the demonic spirit that now possessed her. Rather than potentially ruin their marriage by embracing the former theory they decided to instead blame Denise. The teenaged girl began to receive almost no affection at home.

With nowhere else to go the poor girl crawled into a deep depression.

She emerged at the age of sixteen with a new outlook on life. If the entire world took one look at her and saw evil then she’d embrace the image. She began to alter her school uniforms to be as provocative as possible. She’d openly flirt with anyone she found attractive. She even began to flaunt sexual encounters that she started to have. She had enough of the loneliness that had dominated her life and figured that if she was going to be seen as evil she aimed to be seen as the type of evil that people wanted to be around.

Such behavior could not last forever, and it didn’t. After an incident involving a member of the school’s faculty Denise was thrown out of school. Her parents used this as an excuse to kick her out of their home as well. So at age seventeen the girl was alone and on the streets.

Fortunately for Denise the world of adult entertainment clamored for exotic beauties that were willing to do anything for popularity. Within two weeks of being out on the street she had her own adult website, Brimstone’s Lair, which claimed she was a demon named Brimstone who’d left hell to bed and corrupt as many mortals as possible.

The world’s love for meta-humans, and for adult entertainment collided to create a pop culture superstar. Brimstone was suddenly famous all over the world and Denise got to enjoy the sudden rush of fame. No longer did she have to worry about being lonely, everyone from crime lords, to Hollywood bad boys wanted to be seen with everyone’s favorite demonic girl on their arm. Before long Denise was making millions of dollars per year simply doing what had gotten her thrown out of school.

Beneath the designer leather outfits, and Hollywood glitz, however, Denise was still the same lonely girl yearning for acceptance that she’d been when her powers first manifested. She still wanted to be loved and was quickly coming to discover just how shallow the love and affection of fame was. Then suddenly somewhere appeared whom Denise began to see as a kindred spirit.

He called himself Tribe, and he was an Adonis possessed of clearly demonic powers. He was a criminal, committing all sorts of acts of thievery always within camera shot. He became popular much in the same way that Brimstone did before him. He became the ultimate Bad Boy, no hero could oppose him, and he took what he wanted.

With a carefully constructed façade of confidence Denise tracked down and approached the high profile villain. It didn’t take much effort to seduce him and before long they began to appear in public together. They quickly became the next big celebrity couple. They nearly earned themselves a combined name like Tomkat, only a display of power from Tribe ended that before it started. Behind the scenes thing weren’t quite as wonderful as Denise had hoped.

She discovered that Tribe was actually five men. Denis still believed that she could connect with them, but she ended up spending so much time trying to make each of the five men happy that no real single relationship ever emerged. Instead she found herself as the communal sex object to five criminals, and she lacked the self-esteem to simply walk away from the situation.

Recently Tribe has sided with a shadowy criminal mastermind who calls himself Twilight. Denise is quickly finding herself out of her depth, she’s gone from playing bad girl and exposing herself on film, to being surrounded by psychopaths and hardened criminals. She’s doing less and less work, as Tribe demands more and more of her time. She’s stuck in a horrible situation and is too unsure of herself to find a way out.

That way out may be closer than she knows however. Her façade of sexually charged confidence has fooled nearly everyone in the Syndicate Seven, but not Eclipse. Since the moment she arrived he was able to see her for what she really is, a lonely girl desperate for attention and trapped in an increasingly abusive relationship. He feels horrible for her, and he longs to save her from the situation but his duty to his father dictates that he holds his tongue in order to preserve his father’s alliance with Tribe. Whether Eclipse knows it or not he’s growing more and more attached to the scared crimson skinned girl, and is feeling an emotion he’s yet to feel in his young life.

Secret Origin:

Denise’s parents were right. She did bring this condition on herself. Not with a wicked act, but with an act of kindness as a child.

The villain Wrath once served as a member of the original Syndicate Seven. He was a crippled man who sold his soul to a demon to be able to walk again. He received a demonic body that lacked a sense of taste or touch. He took out his frustration on the forces of good by Twilight’s side. During that time he became a reoccurring foe of the angelic hero Halo. The two were archenemies for the longest time.

However, after the murder of Paper Tiger he felt a sense of shame for the way the Syndicate Seven lured the woman into a vulnerable position and ambushed her. That feeling made him realize that though he had body of a monster he still had the heart and mind of a man. He left the Syndicate Seven intent on trying to find his own way though what looked to be an immortal life.

In his sojourn he met Halo, the two once again fought but neither displayed the vigor that they had in the past. The fighting came to an end and the two men did something they’d never done before, talk. During the conversation Wrath discovered that Halo was unwilling possessed by an Angelic force trying to influence the mortal world. He would have much rather lived an ordinary life. The two men realized that they had been forcefully pushed on opposite ends of a conflict neither wanted anything to do with.

Halo and Wrath struck an accord that day, they would work together. They would work not for evil, nor for Good, but for a preservation of balance on the mortal world. They traveled the world together briefly until word reached them that Twilight had shattered the Protectors. The two agreed that unchecked by the Protectors Twilight could do permanent damage to the balance. They sprung into action.

The two assaulted Twilight’s Fortress. However, the mastermind was not without protection. The remains of his person guard of swordsmen fell quickly to the duo, but waiting to stop them was Kage. The sadistic monster proved more than equal to the task of slowing the two down, seriously hurting them before being forced to retreat.

Battered and tired the two then faced Twilight. He had laced his swords with poison designed to sap the powers of the two. The poison did its job and Twilight managed to defeat the pair. Halo was killed outright, and Twilight claimed his holy sword. However, Twilight’s servants tortured Wrath. His horns and body spikes were forcefully pulled from his body and used to forge a sword, The Wrath Blade. Finally the mystics used their magic to drain the demonic essence from Wrath and channel it into the sword. The process nearly killed Wrath.

Wrath was dumped like so much garbage. Teetering on the edge of death he crawled as far away from Twilight’s fortress as he could. His wounds would not heal, and with the majority of his demonic essence gone he found himself quickly dying. He finally collapsed in the woods near a small city. There a young girl found him. With sparse strength left he spoke softly to her.

“Help me, please…”

The girl was unafraid of his demonic visage and ran to him naively trying to help the large man to his feet. It was to be the girl’s undoing. The last spark of demonic essence in Wrath’s body exited his body and entered the girl. With that last ounce of demonic essence gone the body turned to dust.

That girl was four year old Denise Reilly, who quickly forgot the experience as she aged.

That demonic essence festered inside of Denise until she reached puberty and then expressed itself. Giving her a demonic body and the ability to control hellfire. It also began to subtlety influence the girl. By and large it has only increased her feelings of inadequacy trying to prod her into the right situation.

That situation being where she is right now. While Denise is unaware of it she is right where the demonic essence inside of her wants her to be, it’s part of the reason she won’t leave Tribe. The demonic essence wants Denise to get close enough to come into physical contact with the Wrath Blade. Once that occurs all of the sword’s demonic energy will flood into Denise’s body and create a new, very powerful, and likely very angry creature.

Brimstone is definately a tragic villain figure, scared girl influenced by a force she doesn't know existed and forced to stay in a situation she wishes to leave. I can see why Eclipse wishes to help her out.

Brimstone rocks. I am now insanely jealous of your writing skills.
M&M is not the system for reproducing real science. It's the system for tying real science to a chair and taunting it while you fly around blasting people with the heat of your x-ray vision.
