Biography: Peter Titus was different from the other students at the New Vindicators Academy. While most came to the school cursing their genetic make up for turning them into outcasts, he reveled in his powers. A tragically ordinary boy, his ability to transform into and manipulate water was a talent that set him apart from the herd. It made him special…

…It made him powerful.

Always a model student, if a bit of a goof, Peter received top grades in the four years he spent at the school. However, he was always quick to use his abilities to solve any problem that came his way- arguing that Neo-Sapiens weren’t different but special; so special that they were above the rules. Though his instructors worried over how he would act out of their watch, Peter graduated and moved to Buffalo, intent to continue his education and serve the world as a doctor of cardiology.

NEW VINDICATORS #5
Close to two years later, news had reached Peter of the deaths of several students from his Alma Mata. Addison Truman, Lucas Howell and Quinton Jorgenson had all been students at the academy at the time he had graduated. Connecting their deaths with Forrest N. Bedford’s alleged murder of Arthur and Denise Skraag, Peter abducted Bedford’s daughter Chienne from her eighteenth birthday party… but he had not counted on two Neo-Sapiens being on the guest list… nor that the pair would be New Vindicators.

Lodestone and Frostbite tangled with Tide before a squadron of students was dispatched to rescue Chienne. In the melee, Tide was bested- largely in part to the arrival of the mysterious Portal and Lodestone’s rebellious involvement.

Tide soon escaped his would-be captors in the New York City Police Department, apparently joining up with the Affiliation…

Biography: Graduating high school, Lance McGee and Christine Sway believed that everything was in order. Their futures were ensured. Life was good. The quarterback and head cheerleader had been together since their freshman year and had never dated anyone else. The prom king and prom queen had it all in high school… but outside the walls of Everett Dirkson High School in Central Illinois is a harsh reality just waiting in the bushes for kids like them. Lance’s scholarship to ISU was lost thanks to his new found love of alcohol and Christine’s pregnancy had her parents cut her off. The two moved into a trailer park along the banks of the Illinois River and it was there that Alexander Sway came into the world.

As Lex grew up, his parents settled into the new careers reality had prepared for them. Lance became a laborer at a nearby excavation company while Christine found a job stripping at the Cherry Tree. At least, she tried to. Often, she was told that guys didn’t want to watch a girl with a black eye and a puffy lip dance. As reality crept closer and closer, Lance drank more and more. It helped him to forget about what Christine was really doing to make ends meet and sometimes it only encouraged him to punish her for her illicit career.

As Lex grew older, he grew bigger. He was a natural athlete- just like his old man and not long after turning thirteen he had decided that he had seen enough. Standing up to his father on his mother’s behalf, Lex was punched and sent flying against the kitchen stove. Getting to his feet, his Neo-Sapien abilities manifested for the first time- every molecule in his body mimicked the properties of the metal.

Neither of his parents were able to accept Lex- ironic given that one of the pair had to have passed their genetic template onto him. Throwing the boy out, Lance was content to decree that Lex must have been the result of an affair Christine had had in college and the two were able to return to their sad, pathetic lives.

Lex began living on the streets- up until a chance encounter with a legend took him away to his real life. The former Vindicator Crusader met him and saw his potential and recommended him to a school for young people like himself. En route, the two met Jacquelyn Webber, a young woman just a few weeks Lex’s junior. Her own Neo-Sapien abilities manifested in order to save Lex- helping to cement their friendship.

As the two worked their way through the school, friendship blossomed into romance and the pair began dating. To their peers, their relationship was like something from a fairy tale- though littered with its own kinks, the pair genuinely loved and respected each other. Those around them regarded them as soul mates, but Jacquelyn’s lack of self-confidence slowly began to eat at the pair.

Everything came to a head during a trip to Japan in their senior year, when Jacquelyn’s long-lost mother returned. Intercepting a stray blast from the woman, Alexander’s powers reacted to the energy, permanently altering his physiology… and giving birth to Anomaly.

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas – Everything came to a head during a trip to Japan in their senior year, when Jacquelyn’s long-lost mother returned. Intercepting a stray blast from the woman, Alexander’s powers reacted to the energy, permanently altering his physiology… and giving birth to Anomaly.

As Anomaly, Lex gained his own gravitational pull- making him something of a minute black hole. In this form his body becomes much more cold and dense. Though he had gained much, he had also lost much. Upon their return from Japan, Jacquelyn grew even more distant...

It was months later when the two would get back together. They began to plan a post-graduation road trip, but their plans were hindered by the Affiliation's attack. The pair were caught in an explosion and though Lex made it through unscathed, Jacquelyn was critically injured. He managed to get her and the rest of their team into a nearby hospital where their lives were saved.

NEW VINDICATORS: Sic Semper Tyrannis – Lex and Jacque returned to the Academy when summer drew to a close and their former classmates learned that the pair had eloped. The married couple entered the Trials with Fathom and Occultus Unus and managed to successfully arrive at the Final Trial. It was here that Jacquelyn faced off against Sclera and the young man's X-Ray vision revealed that the injuries she received from the bomb had rendered her unable to bare children.

The battle was stopped when Sclera came close to killing Lex's wife. Eager to avenge her, Lex remained in the Trials, desperate for his opportunity to fight Sclera. Such a chance never appeared as insurgents from Moksha interupted the final rounds. Instead, Lex was content to accept an invitation to join the Guardians.

VINDICATORS: Coup d’état – Anomaly and Tripper responded to a distress call from Alcatraz Island, summoning their old friend Rumble and the Illuminati with them. The heroes were able to quell the prison riot with the help of the Vindicators who arrived soon after to warn of a plot against anyone who had ever been a Vindicator.

When the Order of Chaos laid siege to San Francisco, Lodestone divided their forces between saving the city and protecting the prison. He led the Aurelius, Tick-tock, Deimos and Anomaly into battle and watched as an out-of-practice Anomaly successfully managed to fell both Blaze and Kitty. Still, when Solar and the others became too much for the heroes to contend with, Tick-tock froze the area in a state of suspended animation, waiting for backup from the island to arrive before proceeding any further...

NEW VINDICATORS: Para Bellum – Contacted by Loess, Anomaly and Tripper left the Guardians to join the Vindicators, a new group devoted to bringing Lodestone away from Apocatastasis.

How does Lex act like a black hole? He doesn't seem to have the dimensional pocket AP, which appears to me to be the only power capable of turning someone into a black hole.

Why the major change? Did Lex's player say "I'm fed up with Object Mimicry, I want to be a living black hole." Or did you propose the change to him for the purpose of the story?

Black holes are formed when gravity wins out in the battle electromagetism and the strong force constantly fight on other celestial bodies. The intense gravity breaks matter down and becomes so massive that it collapses in on itself. The key here being intensified gravity wins out. Lex's density is not a form he takes. It's that he has his own center of gravity- one so intense that it allows him to become this minor black hole.

When the powers first awoke within him, there was a demonstration of what could happen. His gravitatial pull began to physically tug at everyone else- drawing them towards him. Whether his body would have contained them in his own dimension is unseen as the surge of abilities was forced down. It is possible that at some point Lex could develope Gravity Control and Dimensional Pocket... but for now, he's pretty much just a brick.

It began when Fathom's player, not knowing what Object Mimicry could do, turned to him one day during the Wreck Room exercises and said, "Dude, you can pretty much do anything, huh?" When the campaign began, Lex's player wasn't sure what the other PCs would be (we ended up having three players who's primary means of fighting was snare- four if you count Drew) and he thought Object Mimicry would allow him to fill whatever role was needed.

As we went, everyone found their niche and Lex's player said, "I'm too jank." He came up with the idea of Lex being afraid of becoming an energy form and the reflexive transformation being a drawback... he told me what he wanted to be and I found a way to smack him up with a little gravity damage. Not only did it give him what he wanted, it helped to define Tripper- through her family history, her insecurities, and where her powers could eventually go.

A Nephilim's eyes perpetually glow whenever they are able to channel a spark of hellfire. While this means that a majority of their populace constantly has glowing eyes, there are some exceptions. Of coursse, prior to the manifestation of their powers- their eyes are completely normal. Still, there are some Nephilim who can only channel under certain circumstances.

When the eyes glow, it's not them bleeding off raw energy so much as it is an unnatural eerieness that you only really notice when you get up close and personal. Unless actually interacting face-to-face with a Nephilim, it's typically a DC 10 Notice check to know that the guy in passing is a Nephilim.

The general public is unaware of the existance of Nephilim and usually noticing the effect makes them scream NS. When we designed the OUBLIETTE universe, we wanted something like Marvel's outlook towards mutants- but justifiable. It's one thing to fear and hate Cyclops because of the destructive power his peepers possess but... why doesn't the public have issues with Iron Man or Wonder Man- when they typically are a nastier threat than most mutants are? Just about every SPB is loathed in our universe. We're equal opportunity oppressors. :)

Real Name: Isato "Izzy" Akimichi

First Appearance: Vindicators #676

Biography: In Osaka, it is said that to survive in the food service business, the food must taste above-average, have larger servings than normal, be inexpensive and fast. Perhaps no one in Osaka embodied the “eat until you drop” attitude better than Akimichi “Izzy” Isato, a Neo-Sapien who discovered his odd powers when he felt his stomach fail him for the first time and tripped as he ran for the bathroom.

When he discovered his powers he asked his parents about them. Both of them were human, which revealed the truth about his origin. His father confessed it all- his mother had been tapped as an incubator for Project: PRIME, where his father worked as a scientist. Isato’s powers stemmed from a mesh of other Neo-Sapiens, their DNA collected and combined before in vitro fertilization occurred. Doctor Akimichi had fallen in love with the young test subject and together the two had fled and raised Isato as their own.

Though denied the trauma that other Primes would face, Isato’s heart echoed their discord. Determined to champion their cause, he traveled to America and told the New Vindicators of Project: PRIME’s existence- using his ability as a “human bouncy ball” (and rejecting the codename “Oddball”) to overpower their superiors and liberate their crop, Izzy made lifelong friends with other Primes Jean Luc Black and Tiffany Bentley (Ombre and Besitz, respectively). To this day he continues to remain by their side, serving as the portly member of the Guardians long after his graduation from the New Vindicators Academy.

Real Name: Tiffany Bentley

Biography: There is no such person as Tiffany Bentley. At least, that’s what Tiffany Bentley tells herself. The name was given to her by the engineers the day she was brought into this world. Then again, is that so different from anyone else? For Tiffany, yes, it is. Her mother was a woman paid handsomely to incubate the girl in her womb for nine months. Her father was a bit of DNA scrapped out of a Petri dish.

She was just another victim of Project: PRIME, an institution dedicated to producing genetically superior off-shoot of the Neo-Sapien race. The Investors called them “Primes” and raising them from birth; telepathic abilities were used to supplant them with false memory implants, better transforming their crop into premier assassins. For Tiffany, this meant being fed martial arts experience. Biography: Jean Luc Black is not a prideful man. His apathetic attitude has him play down his uncanny agility and his abilities as a Prime. Jean possesses a command over a collective of shadow-beings who can merge to blanket an area in complete darkness.

The result of an experiment involving DNA extracts from select Neo-Sapiens, the Investors brought him up as a prime assassin within the holds of Project: PRIME. With his abilities and his talent for thrown projectiles, Ombre was easily a skilled killer- up until his liberation at the hands of the New Vindicators Academy.

Graduating from the school, Jean moved to San Francisco and joined the Guardians. It was that he truly began to develop his own unique personality, as opposed to the stoic sentinel his classmates had come to know. There he found a way to enjoy the training the Investors had given him- becoming a champion player of darts, having conquered all others in the PDC- and BDO-sponsored World Professional Championship.

Biography: It is said that Neo-Sapien abilities only manifest out of necessity. That being the case, it’s somewhat easy to understand just how Catherine Andronov never knew that she, nor anyone in her family knew of their Neo-Sapien ability.

Catherine’s story begins with her acting as a founding member of Vympel- the Russian counter-terrorism unit. In 1981, she was had proven herself an expert in sabotage and cover action. She quickly rose up through the ranks over the next seven years, ultimately being chosen to pilot a mission for the Soviet space program. Vympel suspected one of the doctors of the program to be part of an insurgency using the mission as a means of attacking the Soviet government.

When the traitor was revealed, a struggle between the two began. Ultimately, Doctor Ivan Brosiev managed to eject the young woman into the cold, unforgiving embrace of outer space. Adrift in the void, something miraculous happened… Catherine didn’t die.

The Neo-Sapien talent her family had never discovered was the ability to survive in the depths of space. Still, such an ability failed to spare her from the experience. Slowly, the shuttle she had piloted vanished out of sight- the earth just beyond it.

Months past before Catherine discovered her other ability- the power to travel through space at sanity-defying speeds. With such abilities she reached the edge of our solar system and has seen things no other mortal has laid eyes on. Eventually, those abilities returned her to her own neck of the universe. Unwilling to test her abilities against reentry, she found her way to another crew. Though manned by Americans sent up by NASA, she reluctantly accepted their help in returning to Earth.

Once home, she found that the years spent in space had changed her dramatically. Under the gravity of her home world, she was stronger and faster and though her abilities had rendered her immune to the harsh effects the environment had thrown at her, her body had begun to adapt- granting her considerable constitution back on Earth.

Opting to use her training as a Vympel soldier and her newfound abilities as a Neo-Sapien for her homeland, Catherine became known to the world as Mother Russia- Russia’s first superhero since the Iron Curtain, a member of the original Vindicators. Catherine declined any and all invitations to join the Vindicators herself, choosing to stay and protect her nation from all threats of any size. As she fought on, years flew by and though still considerably powerful, she was considerably older. Catherine returned, finally accepting an offer from the Vindicators- now as an educator. Today, Mother Russia is the co-headmaster of the New Vindicators Academy of Asia, alongside a representative of China- Huo Ughyer.

Biography: Rodney Price grew up as a privileged son who never went a day without being told that he was special. His father was a powerful attorney in Chicago, which meant that Rodney was untouchable within the penal system. There was little that his father’s money and power couldn’t buy or influence; a good thing too, as Rodney’s grades weren’t enough to even help him enroll at a community college- let alone Chicago State University.

Rodney had known about his Neo-Sapien powers for some time- having exploited them through out high school. Those who stood up to Rodney were pummeled unmercifully. One touch could numb the body and leave anyone at his mercy. Hardly the charmer, Rodney found his power made him a living Rohypnol; his touch enabled him to get what he wanted out of a relationship… sex with no commitments or repercussions.

Still, repercussions followed. One of his targets was an old friend of Michuru- one of the Vindicators VII. Forbidden to involve himself by his superiors, Michuru left on his own, accompanied only by his fledgling teammate Bio. All his martial arts abilities failed against Rodney’s touch… but Bio’s powers rendered her immune to his abilities. Armed with Michuru’s sword and memories of her own rape- Bio thrust the steel through Rodney’s groin- taking him down in more ways than one.

Biography: Yoku Un was a bit of a klutz growing up. Born and raised in Himeji, he had suffered twelve fractures and four broken bones before celebrating his thirteenth birthday. His friends dubbed him “Mazui-kun”, due to his horrible luck. Wondering if his luck would ever turn out, he stubbed his toe on the ground in a failed attempt to receive the ball in soccer. The ball continued to move off grounds- and Mazui volunteered to hurry after it.

Entering into the foliage, his foot fell in a small hole- just inches deep, likely dug out by a stray dog. His ankle twisted and his weight toppled him over. Tumbling to the ground, he rolled through the foliage, downhill towards a nearby road. Mazui tumbled into traffic, causing one motorist to swerve in order to avoid hitting him. Veering into the other land, the car was put on a collision course with a small van. The first car’s front driver-side tire blew out, sending them into a nearby hill and ensuring the safety of those inside.

The van maneuvered to avoid the car- wrapping itself around a nearby tree. Much to Mazui’s surprise, it didn’t take long for the police to arrive; they had been in pursuit of the van, responding to a nearby bank robbery.

It took Mazui many more odd encounters with the odds before he finally conceded that he had some odd ability to manipulate the odds. Testing such a theory, it was determined that his powers were Neo-Sapien in origin- an aspect that allowed him to sign on with the Vindicators Academy of Asia where he uses his powers… for whatever strikes his fancy.

NEW VINDICATORS: Sic Semper Tyrannis – When the Rising Sun drafted Mazui as the only male presence on her team, he thought he had hit the jackpot. During the Fourth Trial, their team was separated and he was lucky enough to be partnered with his secret crush. He had thought he would get lucky in a different way before they found themselves fighting Paragon and then Team Australia. Ultimately, due to them protecting Lodestone’s group, he never got the chance with Saya he was hoping for…

In the Final Trials, Mazui drew Kiln for his first opponent and withdrew from the match when Kiln’s flames became too hot for the young man to handle.

NEW VINDICATORS: Absit Omen – When Silverback requested aid from their sister schools, it was Mazui and his teammates who responded, and they responded in the nick of time; the Asian New Vindicators arrival saved the Americans from capture at the hands of the Sentries.

NEW VINDICATORS: Para Bellum – Following their flight into Canada, Mazui and his group joined Hikari on his mission to stop the ritual that would turn Coup Field into one of the Synod.

What effect does the Full Power drawback on Duplication? 'cos I thought that Duplication had to be used at a rank equal to total PP cost of the character/15 or else the duplicates would be weaker versions of the original, instead of exact copies. So why would someone want to use Duplication at a rank lower than their character's PP cost/15 anyway?

Yeah... Lodey's player brought it to my attention Sunday that he's had a few problems with some of his math and picked out a few errors in the translation of his sheet to the format I present stats in here. The plan is that the two of us will edit the Lodestone build this Friday, just before our game meets.
