Bellerophon is a pretty neat mythical character in that his story is ultimately about how hubris can be your downfall. By the time he hits middle age he's decided that after being quite the famous monster killer its time to join Zeus and company on Olympus. Suffice to say this is a bad idea and he falls from Pegasus as he's ascending Olympus. Bellerophon ends up a cripple, because even a fall of several thousand feet can't kill the guy, and nobody will go near him for fear of Zeus' wrath. Too bad for guy that was nearly one par with modern superheroes in terms of attitude.
