Like a bird? :-)

I still havent been able to see this show, but someone is taping them for me. I am also happy to discover that Robin of Sherwood is now available on DVD in the US.

I think you'll like the show. What is this Robin of sherwood to which you refer?

classic BBC Robin Hood show in the 80s. Very mystical and cool.

Yep, I picked up the box set this weekend, now I just need to arrange some time to watch it.

I really wanted to like this show. Really.

The robin actor was just too full of himself and the servant, following him around shouting "but master!?" just did not work for me. Maid Marrion's lectures about human rights and security seemed a bit anachronistic in an age of bloody crusades. The silly arrow and sound effects at the start of each scene just annoyed me.

What really got me as how this show had no Friar Tuck. From what Ive read on the web (the source of all facts, cough cough) the producers did not want to have such a strong "christian" character, so instead we get a saracen woman and a robin hood who quotes the Holy Koran. Huh? Am i watching Robin Hood or a tv sequel to Kingdom of Heaven?

Im not sure, as I gave up on it. I too rather enjoyed the 80s show, and I did not realize it was out on dvd. Cool, I'll look into getting that. ;-)

Peace now.

I agree. Politeness is all very well, but PC in Robin Hood?

Heck no! Bring on the wenches lets get those buckles swashing!

Besides, they take themselves too seriously. Robin Hood is a trickster, not the Lone Ranger. . .

They do have a jolly good theme tune though. :D

Allegedly, this show is doing quite well on BBC America. It did not do so well in its initial UK run.

It's pretty so-so in my opinion. I watched about half of the first episode and soert of lost interest, but I watched another this Saturday with the slaves/mine/archery contest storyline, and found it a bit better, though still not great.

I agree with some of the previous comments. The writing and acting are pretty average at best (and there were a few moments of pretty bad acting as well), I'm not crazy about some of the anachronistic feel, and it has an overall pretty "cheesy" feel to it, and not in a good way. The arrow-swooshing sound effect they use all the time is a bit annoying as well.

Also, some of the costumes are pretty horrible. I'm sure that's just a matter of budget so I try not to judge too harshly, but the fake armor is pretty horrid, and that cheapest-fake-leather-I've-ever-seen jacket the Sherrif's second-hand-man wears is awful (the younger guy with longish, dark hair, don't recall the character's name).

I may catch another few episodes to see how things develop, but it's definitely not something I'll actively carve time out to watch. Too bad, I was hoping for something much better.

I was a bit disappointed. I'll try another episode later to see if it grows on me.

Yes, it is a little dissapointing. I must admit that my first exposure to Robin Hood was in his Errol Flynn incarnation and after that any metrosexual version of the Hooded Man dissapoints me.

I like Jack. The new muslim girl that they added to the crew. I like that they are keeping her from being a stereotypical girl by not having her do any of the cooking. They play her a little young in that she is very brash.
