[lame mage] Like Father, Like Son released!

Postby Ben Robbins » Tue Jun 12, 2007 4:31 pm

UPDATE: Like Father, Like Son (the Trial of Dr Null) is now available.

Lame Mage's seventh adventure release Like Father, Like Son (the Trial of Dr Null) is now in playtesting.

Parenting can be a challenge, particularly when your child wants to grow up to be a criminal mastermind. But should it really be such a surprise, when his father was a supervillain before him?

Killer vending machines. Video game monsters. Due process of the law.

Today the cafeteria, tomorrow the world!

Scheduled for release on YourGamesNow in July.

So you're a mad scientist and you're putting arms on your flying saucer, y'know, just in case.

Two arms, sure that's obvious, and four is twice as good, but what's twice as good as twice as good? Yep, eight arms.

What do you call a flying saucer with eight massive mechanical arms? If you're a mad scientist (and you probably are if you're making this thing) you call it your Octosaucer.

Being one of the playtesters on this, I had to say the video game monsters were pretty amusing.
And we by this sole token;
Know we once were gods;
Take shame in being broken;
No matter how great the odds.

Oh sure, it's all fun and games until the Angry Ape smashes your car with barrels, or the Space Evaders rain a blizzard of destruction on the streets below, stop, and then shift back to the left for another pass in all their 8-bit fury...

I'm waiting for the last playtest groups to report back (Paragon's group was ahead of the curve), and then after necessary changes and tweaks Like Father, Like Son should be ready to go.

I have to say that the video game monsters were fun. About half of our group was waylaid by the Angry Ape.

Only half?!? Note to self: give Angry Ape laser eyes.

Three playtest groups have reported in (plus the original in-house group of course): just waiting to see if we get one or two more, and then playtesting is done! I have to say the feedback has been really useful so far. Playtesters rock.

Well.... One got eaten and was powerless due to the nature of the monsters. Several of the others decided to play along and started running back and forth on the street blasting the invaders in the air.
The others were trying to save people and reduce property damage. This is a start since when we first played through the bridge battle module, our group was responsible for blowing up a large chunk of the bridge....
Then when we faced the Dreadnaut, we sorta accidentally redesigned the coastline of the bay area.... Mines suck!!!

You should have gotten my group's response... Let me know if there is a problem.

Nothing nicer than heroes growing up and embracing their civic responsibility. Of course some major property damage from time to time can be quite scenic. Frankly I'm a little surprised any time the Bay Bridge _doesn't_ get cremated.

If I'm matching real names to board names correctly, yep. I meant to send you a confirmation email earlier to let you know I got it.

It's official: Like Father, Like Son has more playtesters than any previous Lame Mage release, just barely nudging out Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge.

We actually extended playtesting out a week because some groups needed more time, and we crave the precious precious playtest feedback. The last group reported in a few days ago so we should have the adventure ready for release in the next few days.

So warm up your press passes, because the trial of the century starts soon...

What do you get when you mix the trial of the century and an evil boy genius with no positive role models?

Sorry for the short announcement. Here's the rest of the adventure description:

Parenting can be a challenge, particularly when your child wants to grow up to be a criminal mastermind. But should it really be such a surprise, when his father was a supervillain before him?

Like Father, Like Son (Trial of Dr Null) is the seventh adventure release from Lame Mage Productions for M&M Superlink Second Edition.

After all the terrors he has inflicted upon society, Dr. Victor Marsden, better known to the world as Dr Null, has at last been brought to justice. The eyes of the world are turned to the city courthouse as the fate of the scientific mastermind is decided in the trial of the century.

Like all Lame Mage releases it has been carefully playtested to help you run the best game possible: nearly 30 playtesters participated in its development. Run it as a stand-alone adventure, or combine it with Day of Dr Null, Death of Dr Null and Dr Null: Battle on the Bay Bridge (free download) to play out the complete rise and fall of Dr Null. Includes guidelines for running trial subplots in your own games without boring your heroes to tears.

Killer vending machines. Video game monsters. Due process of the law.
