I know wikipedia says Marcus turned into a hybrid; but I never really thought that watching the movie. I figured he was just that much cooler than everybody because he was the first. And the reason he never showed it before was he was hiding that he was the first.

Thanks for shopping at J-Mart, Kenseido!

Actually, if you watch the end of the original movie, you can see where the lycans blood flows into his crypt and with him having the Corvinus bloodline, the blood he consumes turns him into a hybrid. Until that time, he was just a vampire, albeit a very powerful one.

They made a big point of addressing that in Lucian's reasons for finding Michael Corvin because he was the descendent of Marcus, and his father William Corvinus, who contained the only known bloodline to be able to support both the lycan and vampire viruses.

Comments: Guess what I watched again this weekend for the 100th time?

Here we have Mal, the erstwhile captain of Serenity. I never watched Firefly and had no interest in seeing Serenity in the theatre. What I fool I was. Now I watch it whenever it comes on HBO/Cinemax and I am geeked up about the special edition DVD that comes out tomorrow (I think). I really liked the flick.

Mal is pretty much street level, but among the folks in the Serenity universe, he's pretty dangerous. Given his combat ability and his leadership skills, he is even more dangerous when given some teammates to play off of.

I found it interesting in reading Baron's thread where he defended his reasons for not giving him Master Plan. I can certainly see where he was going, but I gave it to him for the simple fact that even though Mal's plans are haphazard and dangerous, they still get the job done. It may not be a plan like Dr. Doom's or Lex Luthor's, but it still seems to always give he and his crew the advantage.

More Serenity folks coming up.

Another piece of merchandise from our Serenity line hits the shelves on Aisle 9!

Image
I believe in something bigger than myself: a better world...a world without sin.

THE OPERATIVE
PL:
8 (120 pp) - OPL: 8; DPL: 8

ABILITIES: STR: 16 (+3) DEX: 18 (+4) CON: 14 (+2) INT: 15 (+2) WIS: 16 (+3) CHA: 10 (0)

SKILLS: Acrobatics 5 (+9), Climb (+3), Concentration (+3), Diplomacy 6 (+6), Escape Artist 4 (+8), Gather Info 10 (+10) [Well-Informed], Intimidate 8 (+8), Investigate 6 (+8), Knowledge [Tactics] 8 (+10), Knowledge [Theology and Philosophy] 4 (+6), Notice 4 (+7), Profession [Operative] 4 (+7), Search (+2), Sense Motive 3 (+6) [Assessment], Stealth 6 (+10), Survival (+3), Swim (+3)

FEATS: Accurate Attack, Assessment, Attack Focus (Melee) (2), Attack Specialization (1) [Unarmed], Benefit (2) [No ID, Alliance Clearance], Challenges (1) [Combat Clarity], Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll (1), Dodge Focus (4), Elusive Target, Equipment (3), Improved Block (1), Improved Critical (2) [Unarmed, Sword], Improved Disarm, Improved Initiative (1), Stunning Attack, Takedown Attack (1), Well-Informed

POWERS:
Paralyzing Strike [6] - DC:16:will

EQUIPMENT:
(15ep)

Body Armor (Protection, Subtle [4ep]) [3]
Sword (PF: Improved Critical [6ep]) [3] - DC:21:tough
Commlink (1ep)

COMBAT: Base Attack +8, Melee +10, Ranged +8, Unarmed +12, Grapple +15 [Unarmed +3, 19-20 Critical (Bruise), Sword +6, 18-20 Critical (Lethal)]; Defense 20 (13 flat-footed); Init +8; Knockback -3 (-2 flat-footed)

SAVES: Toughness +6 (+5 flat-footed), Fortitude +5, Reflex +7, Will +5

DRAWBACKS:

Abilities 29 + Skills 17 (68 ranks) + Feats 26 + Powers 12 + Combat 28 + Saves 8 – Drawbacks 0 = 120 / 120

Comments: The Operative from Serenity, a quick build. He made for an intriguing bad guy, the type that I like the most: one who does his evil deeds for a purpose that he thinks is the right thing. Kind of like W...

He's a melee beast and that paralyzing strike will end a lot of fights early with the most lower level characters. I gave him a PL on Mal, and I will probably build River at a PL higher. Even though Mal beat him, he did it with a great Bluff check and, in now converting every fight I see into MnM terms, probably having a couple of HP to burn for an Ultimate Toughness Save and a surge.

Clean Up 3/28/08: The Operative gets a tweak and bump up in PP to playable level. I have an idea for using him and he needed to be a just a bit tougher to make it work.

Thanks. I knew I had to come up with something, and the immunity seemed like the way to go. I modeled a lot that build after yours and Baron's actually.

Diverting from our Serenity line, we have a fresh build for Aisle 2. This is a J-Mart non-favorite...

Comments: Hank Pym. He sucks. I had to break a lot of game rules with him, but it doesn’t matter because he’s Hank Pym and he sucks.

No consistent powers. For 30 years...

An inferiority complex when being a genius and being married to a hot, rich woman.

Inventor of one of the deadliest androids of all time.

He sucks.

Technically, his Growth would allow him to hit a 54 strength, which is way above PL10 limits, but I don’t care because he’s Hank Pym and he sucks. His Shrinking would allow him to have a +20 to hit, and I may even let him have it. Why? Because he’s Hank Pym and he sucks.

Have you guessed who is going to be recipient of the beatdown I am setting up?

And why? Because he SUCKS.

Clean Up 1/22/09: OK, he still sucks, but I am trying to be nicer to everyone this year, so I am starting with ol' Hank. Cleaned up my original crappy build of him and made a less crappy build. I focued more on Pym the scientist than Pym the Avenger, and I like this version far better, plus I trimmed him down to 150pp like he should have been in the first place.

Yeah, I understand that argument. I just don't agree with it. Marcus was the first, just like William. They were already as pure as they could be.
It was my understanding they wanted Michael because of Alexander, not Marcus or William. Pre-infected blood.

Regardless, the build is pretty good. Whether he was a hybrid or not; he seems representative of what Marcus was in the movie.
