As one might expect they need human women to procreate, and the blood of men to feed their master...the flesh is theirs, after the sweet, sweet blood is gone.


Note that as minions, they fall under those rules, so while tough, when they fail a save, down they go. Not fun folk to play with, tho.

Description:
Dr. Umbros is a sleight man, slim and short. His jet black hair is covered, as is his face, by a helmet like that worn by Maximus in the arena, in the movie Gladiator, in black iron. His pale skin gleams beneath the dark metal. About his shoulders lies a black mantled cloak, lined inside with deep red. Beneath that, he wears a charcoal gray nehru jacket over tight black jodphurs, which are tucked into high black leather boots with perhaps a touch more heel and sole than is strictly needful. His hands are covered in what appear to be extremely
tightfitting gloves of some soft black hide.

His shadow gives away his nature, as it slavers and has a demonic appearance even when he seems kind and courteous. He can make his shadow dance to his tune, but it takes concentration and that will eventually slip.

Dr. Umbros was born Ander Kasanly, the scion of a clan of living vampires whose origins lie in ancient Sumeria, or perhaps Dacia. He is, at his own claim, several hundred years old. He may be older still. Magic runs in his veins, and his magic lies in the control of darkness and shadow, and the mystic essence
thereof. Few mages are more puissant in his chosen field.

But his greatest threat lies in his goals, and his message. Dr. Umbros believes in the undoubted superiority of metahumans. He believes they are all the same, at the core. He believes that they are all sourced in magic, which may be true, and that every single metahuman is a powerful mage, with the potential to learn more. He believes that these metahuman mystics are destined to inherit the Earth, and that it is his job to teach them truth and usher in the New Age. He is also a ruthless terrorist, with no tolerance for weak normals.

Think of him as a shadow-wielding vampiric cross between Voldemort and Magneto and you won't go far wrong.

Dr. Umbros has fought the Vanguard (both East and West), as well as the Wild Hunt. he always has a large number of cronies...none of whom are minions. They are all full fledged characters who have joined his cause willingly, and are that much dangerous for that very reason.

He's a masterful planner, a great leader, a skilled combatant...and a very dangerous magician. He's so skilled, in fact, that he doesn't need either gestures or words to cast his magic...but often uses them anyway, for show. He can scry far beyond the moon into the lightless void, given shadows to see through, and teleport, via shadows, to any place he could scry. In fact, he usually scrys before teleporting. It only makes sense. He can do nearly anything with shadows, as any spell he doesn't have as an AP can be easily stunted, modified with extra effort, etc. In addition, he can build one time magical effects and magical artifacts that *aren't* purely shadow magic.

Sebastian Tavares Silva was just a very good cop, a member of Portugal’s Policia Judiciaria, until he was approached by the government with an offer: Become a state-sponsored super hero, a symbol of the nation. A secret process increased his physical capabilities slightly, he engaged in further training…and the process had an unexpected side effect: he gained the ability to disappear completely, hiding from all forms of detection, until he acted violently. Given the name O Encoberto, the Hidden One, he was identified with the ancient King so called. The government gave him custody of a mystic artifact known as the Sword of Santiago, and outfitted him with plate mail and shield, with both tabard and shield bearing the Portuguese flag. They also gave him a cool looking motorcycle. O Encoberto is very popular, and has lead the Portugues national team for several years now. The government intentionally started a rumour that he was the original King Sebastian reborn… but some evidence has surfaced that this may, actually, surprisingly, be true.

He's a very handsome man, tall, dark haired, grey eyed.

Abilio is an orphan. He never knew his parents, nor was anything known of them. He was left on the steps of the orphanage at birth. Raised in Casa Pia, in Lisbon, he was taught good morals and manners and high ideals on one hand…and abused by heartless staff on the other. He swore, when he grew up, to punish all those who were dishonest, all those who were corrupt. To do this, he became the Rooster, based on an old Portugues folktale. Donning a white costume that included a wing like cape and a full face helmet with a red feather crest (much like the old Greek horsehair crests), he took his fight to the streets. He is a flamboyant figure, not a stealthy one. He does not try to inspire fear, but hope. He’s really very young, only eighteen, and still new at this…but he has a keen ear for truth and can see deep into the hearts of evildoers. He’s a far better fighter than a criminologist, being trained by the one staff member at Casa Pia he trusted to defend himself…but halving no formal training in crimefighting at all. He has recently joined the Portuguese national super team led by O Encoberto, and is not sure where he fits in.

His current suit, sealed against gas and for underwater work, but not against vacuum, was built for him by Bruto.

Note: The corruption and abuse at Casa Pia, at least according to the news, was sadly very real.

Eugenio (he actually prefers to be called Bruto) was born this way. Born a throwback, looking like a Neanderthal. Possessed of enormous strength that just kept increasing, nearly unhurtable. Almost everyone assumed that he must be dim, subhuman in intelligence. On the contrary (and his mother knew this from the start) he is astonishingly intelligent. He holds two doctorates and three patents for rare technology. He joined the Portuguese national super team several years ago to run their R&D division, as well as thrash evil-doers whenever possible, as he indulges both his cerebral and his primal sides.

Bruto wears nothing but voluminous cargo shorts when on assignment, to better give his opponents the impression that he is nothing more than his name impies.

Interestingly, he seems to have the innate ability to understand any language, spoken or written…as if the fundamental codes and sources of language are in his brain.

Lisbon native Branca is short and skinny, with a face as sharp as her tongue. She’s thoroughly unlikeable, and not very good looking. But she does, indeed, have a good heart. It’s just hidden under years of bitterness about her appearance and poor childhood. Of course all that changed, when she hit puberty, and her metahuman gene activated, giving her power over the glimmering silver starlight. Interestingly, she also seems adapted to space…leading some to believe she might be an alien hybrid instead of a mutation. She’s 22, and she joined the Portuguese national team 2 years ago to avoid prosecution for assault with a deadly weapon; she blasted a politician’s son in the face with her light powers when he made a snide comment about her sparse figure.

Her native tongue, if it needs to be said, is Portuguese. It's the only language she speaks.

She thinks she’s the last daughter of a distant planet. She was born in rural Portugal. Her parents are a tad embarrassed…but luckily, she changed her name. She does look the part, of course. She’s 6’2”, with long black hair and green eyes that have no pupil or whites. She wears a costume much like that of Power Girl, except that the tunic is red, and the gloves and cape are green. The belt and fittings are gold, of course…she’s very patriotic.

Super strength, super speed, flight, emerald eye blasts…she’s got it all. Now if she could just accept that she’s an earthling, she might figure out where her powers actually come from.
