-Role in the X-Over: Gambit was one of the supporting background characters for most of the cross-over, never getting much to say. He had some words during the hunt for X-Force, but got clawed by Feral in the opening splash panel of the actual fight and didn't take part in the rest. Then he showed up to take the MLF down, but only nailed some guards before Wildside snuck up behind him and smashed his head into the wall, concussing him and taking him out of the storyline.
-Gambit's come a long way since being created essentially to betray the team (it's true!), and to give Jim Lee a nifty trenchcoat to draw. They went into overdrive to make him seem 'cool' to young kids (the coat, smoking, a melee fighter, cool 'card throwing' power, etc.), and he stands as one of the living embodiments of 90s Marvel Comics. But they never stopped pushing the guy; he eventually got his own long-running series (40 or so issues), and even got leadership of an X-Men team for a short while (though by now, almost every member of the team has).
-Statting him is actually no easy task; he mixes the Skill Monkey archetype with the Melee Fighter archetype, and sticks in a mutant power on TOP of all that, which made him a ridiculous 210 pp when I did him out the first time. So I stuck in Jack-of-All-Trades and downgraded most of his Skills except the thief-oriented ones, and took away all but the most essential feats he's displayed. So you'll notice that he's completely set up as a Defensive GOD, with +12 Defense, Defensive Roll, Defensive Attack, Reflex +10, etc. By comparison, his power is actually rather weak, but that's pretty accurate given the time period (his cards were NEVER shown at the level of say, Cyclops' optic blasts or anything), and were almost a superfluous addition to his melee power rather than his major offensive tactic. And actually, Gambit's a PL 8 offensive-wise, with only +5 damage with his Staff and +8 with his Cards.
-Regarding his Kinetic Power, it seems to be that everyone always stats it as a Blast, which I don't think is quite accurate. I mean, he certainly can't toss it 80 or 100 feet or anything like that. In fact, he has to THROW his attack. Throw, if you'll notice, is a Feat under Damage/Strike, and virtually seems TAILOR-MADE for both Gambit and Captain America (like alot of weird Feats & APs tossed in throughout the book and applying to specific heroes). The Throwing Mastery feat also is designed for this (though mainly for Bullseye, of course), thus giving me the total power. He gets Subtle (it's been described as a silent explosion in the past) and Split Attack (he can toss tons of cards at once; Autofire would be a Hero Point-required Feat), and the Flaw Requires Objects, for obvious reasons. Aaaand the side power Disintegrate, to explain where all those cards and stuff go.
