-Role in the X-Over: Jean, along with Cyclops, was one of the key ingredients of the whole storyline, as Stryfe had kidnapped the two of them to torture them over Cyclops sending 'him' into the future, where he was beaten, abused and tortured by Apocalypse (in reality, he was a clone of Cable kidnapped by Apoc, but he didn't know that). So Jean spent the entire time in prison being insulted, with the occasional fight for freedom, pushing around some Dark Riders. She tried to talk it out with Stryfe (who appeared to hesitate for a second), but spent the climactic battle using her Force Field to protect the Summers boys from danger.

-Jean has long been one of the definitive X-Men, going from a nervous young girl with little power to a team powerhouse, and a Telepath on the Xavier/Frost plateau of power. She's also one of the greatest and most well-rounded of the team, the benefit of years of care from both Stan Lee and Chris Claremont, making her one of the most beloved Marvel heroines of all time. She was basically my favourite Comic Book Girlfriend during my childhood/early puberty years as well, and thus always gets credit for that. Though her dying became a running gag (I think she's only died twice, but her first death became the most famous example of comic book 'semi-death') in recent years, leading to a poisoning and eventual 'permanent' killing off of the character (give it five years), she still stands as one of the best X-Men.
-In terms of points value, Jean gets a similar treatment that most of the other elite X-Men get. She takes up WAY more pp than a PL 10, and I don't think she counts as one anyways. Actually, offensively she IS PL 10, with a focus on her TK attacks, but there's no way a chick who can defend herself against nearly any mental onslaught is taking anything less than 10 ranks in Telepathy, and her Force Field is one of the better ones out there.
-Another key power is her versatility, in that she can raise a force field around people, fly them around, dodge attacks, all while keeping in communication with her team. Thus, she gets a ton of Dymamic AP points for her two powers, her TK especially. Some have Dynamized her Telepathy to her TK, but I think that's a bit of a points-cheat, and something that usually only happens occasionally (ie. "Hero Point it") in the comics.

-Role in the X-Over: This being an actual danger situation and not a "let's check this out and drag the most useless person ever along" mission, Jubilee spent the entire time at home. She did get smacked by Mr. Sinister when he came calling, and got to make fun of the X-Force prisoners, though.

-Oh dear god, don't even get me started on Jubilee. OK, I just have to: Desperate for another 'lighter touch' to Wolverine stories that Kitty Pryde used to produce, and with Jim Lee desperate to make more people wearing trenchcoats in books he drew, Marvel popped in another character to the Claremont/Lee X-Men. Enter Jubilee, who quickly went to the 1980s-inspired "reader insert" character; ie. the plucky, sarcastic teenage character who got to hang around all the big, tough and cool X-Men, while remaining flippant and comedic throughout. The only problem is, Marvel did the EXACT SAME THING years earlier with Kitty Pryde (rubbing old fans the wrong way with a new replicant of the old concept), and Jim Lee basically copied almost the exact design of Boom-Boom, who'd appeared years earlier in the Secret Wars II storyline, and was now a regular in X-Factor. So the character was a double rip-off, wandering around, being 'comedically whacky' and making sarcastic jokes and calling people "Dweebs" and stuff (it was the early 90s). But hey, Marvel was busy giving Jim Lee whatever he wanted to keep him happy, so that forgives THEM a little bit. But then Jim & the other Image boytoys leave Marvel high and dry, recreating all their characters in Image, so Marvel's stuck with Kitty/Boomer Lite, and they have to give her something to do. So the "whacky sidekick" thing goes on until Generation X starts up, and they pawn her off on the new generation. And since Generation X eventually became the worst X-Men book ever (seriously, try to understand Penance & M's origins, I dare you), it basically led to the destruction of her character, and the characters of everyone in that book, and we only see her now as a slightly-aged hot asian chick who got a failed mini-series a while back.
-OK, off my ranting box, Jubilee's a pretty competent sidekick, mostly dependant on luck, Dodge Focus, second chances and stuff to keep her alive, all while distracting the enemy. Her power was basically useless for anything other than an annoyance/distraction at this point, so she only gets to be PL 7. She's no match for pretty much anyone else in this X-over one-on-one, though.

CALIBAN, HORSEMAN OF APOCLAYPSE, circa X-Cutioner's Song
PL 10 (100)
ST 8/30 (-1/+10) DEX 10/14 (+2) CON 10/30 (+0/+10) INT 8 (-1) WIS 8 (-1) CHA 8 (-1)

-Role in the X-Over: Caliban showed up, beating down Cyclops & Jean Grey (who appeared unable to even hurt him), capturing them for Mr. Sinister (disguised as Apocalypse). Later on, she attacked the X-team going after Apoc, this time nailing Colossus from behind, before being frozen by Storm & Iceman working together.

-Caliban is easily the toughest and most dangerous of the Horsemen, going from a weak-as-a-kitten stupid Morlock to a ravenous beast with super-strength and near-invulnerability. He was powered-up during X-Factor's run into another Horseman of Apocalypse, and has stayed that way ever since, being an occasional character to appear in the X-books (including a short run on X-Force). I liked weak Caliban alot as a character (especially the "Kitty forced to marry him" storyline), but once he was turned into a generic powerhouse, I kinda lost interest in him.
-Statting him is pretty easy on the power end, but I had to tack Extended and Tracking onto his Detect Mutants power to make him more effective at it. Considering how powerful his ability was (I can't remember if he could pick out individuals or not based off of his sense, but he was still VERY accurate), 8 points seems about right.

Yeah, I take a day off every now and then and then splurge out all the ones I've done through the week like that :). It helps that lots of them are supporting and side-villains at best, so you don't have to spend tons of time going through Skills & Feats and stuff. Jean Grey took me quite a bit of time and thought to do, as is the Gambit build I'm currently working on.

I'm still amazed that anyone can shorten some of the X-Men down to 150 points, though. Nearly all my well-rounded (ie. non Iceman, Jubilee or supporting X-team types) X-characters are easily hitting 170 or so, and have to be whittled down to what's left. Thankfully, I never felt like going hardcore into the PL 10 (150) caps, or else I'd go insane, dropping off stats I felt needed to belong.

-Role in the X-Over: Gambit was one of the supporting background characters for most of the cross-over, never getting much to say. He had some words during the hunt for X-Force, but got clawed by Feral in the opening splash panel of the actual fight and didn't take part in the rest. Then he showed up to take the MLF down, but only nailed some guards before Wildside snuck up behind him and smashed his head into the wall, concussing him and taking him out of the storyline.

-Gambit's come a long way since being created essentially to betray the team (it's true!), and to give Jim Lee a nifty trenchcoat to draw. They went into overdrive to make him seem 'cool' to young kids (the coat, smoking, a melee fighter, cool 'card throwing' power, etc.), and he stands as one of the living embodiments of 90s Marvel Comics. But they never stopped pushing the guy; he eventually got his own long-running series (40 or so issues), and even got leadership of an X-Men team for a short while (though by now, almost every member of the team has).
-Statting him is actually no easy task; he mixes the Skill Monkey archetype with the Melee Fighter archetype, and sticks in a mutant power on TOP of all that, which made him a ridiculous 210 pp when I did him out the first time. So I stuck in Jack-of-All-Trades and downgraded most of his Skills except the thief-oriented ones, and took away all but the most essential feats he's displayed. So you'll notice that he's completely set up as a Defensive GOD, with +12 Defense, Defensive Roll, Defensive Attack, Reflex +10, etc. By comparison, his power is actually rather weak, but that's pretty accurate given the time period (his cards were NEVER shown at the level of say, Cyclops' optic blasts or anything), and were almost a superfluous addition to his melee power rather than his major offensive tactic. And actually, Gambit's a PL 8 offensive-wise, with only +5 damage with his Staff and +8 with his Cards.
-Regarding his Kinetic Power, it seems to be that everyone always stats it as a Blast, which I don't think is quite accurate. I mean, he certainly can't toss it 80 or 100 feet or anything like that. In fact, he has to THROW his attack. Throw, if you'll notice, is a Feat under Damage/Strike, and virtually seems TAILOR-MADE for both Gambit and Captain America (like alot of weird Feats & APs tossed in throughout the book and applying to specific heroes). The Throwing Mastery feat also is designed for this (though mainly for Bullseye, of course), thus giving me the total power. He gets Subtle (it's been described as a silent explosion in the past) and Split Attack (he can toss tons of cards at once; Autofire would be a Hero Point-required Feat), and the Flaw Requires Objects, for obvious reasons. Aaaand the side power Disintegrate, to explain where all those cards and stuff go.

-Role in the X-Over: The Beast spent most of the time in the lab, trying to cure Xavier's condition with Moira MacTaggart. Though he ended up getting a LOT of panel-time in the process, he had very little combat. He was part of the "got our asses kicked by Apocalypse" team, and he nearly got eaten alive by Famine's power when she snuck up behind him. Still, one of the biggest roles he's ever played in a major crossover.

-Ol' Hank is weird as far as Marvel characters go. He has a typical dichotomy-based Lee/Kirby design at his core: the big gorilla-looking guy who happens to be the most erudite and intelligent member of his team. But then over the years various writers took him and did CRAZY things with the character. See, Hank was pretty boring most of the time, a regular muscular guy with bare feet & hands jumping around and being a scientist, but not the UBER Marvel scientist we're used to seeing (Mr. Fantastic, Hank Pym, Tony Stark, etc.), in that he has a focus and can't just invent stuff to solve every problem. So first one writer turns him into a grey-furred Avenger, seeing a light in the character concept. Then he shifts to blue for printing-press-based reasons (I'm pretty sure that's it- same reason Hulk went green). Now he's a giant kitty. You get the idea. Still, alot of people love the Beast, and for good reason: he's charming, funny and one of the few heroes who tends to mock the whole concept of heroics (like Spider-Man), and he's actually portrayed as a slightly more aged person compared to the perma-twenties who dominate most of Marvel Comics.
-Statting Beast was easy. Stick some moderate scientific skills (with his IQ, it's easy to scrimp on the points for them) onto a physically fit build, give him powers to up all his physical stats (with focus on agility), and you're basically done. Though I might've overdone his physical stats a little bit, he actually DOES seem that powerful. He was X-Factor's sole strong guy for YEARS, and was initially shown in the Rogue strength class, he's got Agility on the Spidey/Nightcrawler level, and he's probably as tough as he is strong.
-His powers are pretty fun; Spider-Man type stuff to allow him to climb on ceilings and stuff, and then I stuck in the Features power to explain the unexplainable (there's obviously no real power for it) nature of his ability to use his feet as well as he uses his hands.
-Note that Hank doesn't really meet full caps offensively, which reflects his eventual shift to a non-combat role over time. He gets full defensive power, though.

Edit: Cripes, forgot to give him Super-Strength of all things. That's like my number one thing to forget.

-Role in the X-Over: Rogue actually didn't get much play, but did get to KO a few people. She basically no-sold Boom-Boom's plasma blasts to the point of embarassment (that was when I realized Boomer was TOTALLY useless compared to the other X-Forcers) before punching her out in one fight. And in the next, handed Dragonness her ass with one punch as Polaris held her. Unfortunately, Rogue got too cocky, and a sneak attack by Strobe ended up blinding her for the rest of the arc, and even the next few X-Men issues!

-Ah, Rogue. One of Claremont's babies during his initial X-Men run, where he did all of his key Claremontisms when he loves a female character he created: Had every guy talk about how gorgeous she was (this was when she looked like a punk lesbian, by the way), have her win tons of battles by herself, have ridiculous displays of power, constant issues of her being the primary character, etc. This was all repeated years later by Rachel Summers, and in the modern era by Sage. Of course, Chris' initial run had her use her absorption/mimic powers as her primary tactic, to the point where she ended almost every battle by stealing the powers either of her allies or her opponent. For some reason, by the time the 90s swung around, she'd converted to "NO! I must never use my powers, lest I take too much!" and is instead using them as a mere flying brick, essentially punching every opponent. Years later, Claremont would take the titles over again, and would once again turn Rogue into a Power Queen, using RIDICULOUS levels of power, taking out swaths of enemies by herself, and using her mimicked abilities to win every fight. She's one of approximately 18 former X-Men to lead a team by herself, as well.
-Personally, I never liked Rogue all that much. Goofy haircut, they played her up as a dumb, unskilled chick during my initial time as a comic fan, her powers seemed boring since she was just a flying brick at that point, and there were much more interesting X-Men going around. But then Jim Lee drew her as uber-hot, so there ya go.
-I was REALLY expecting Rogue to break her caps like most of the other 'elite' X-Men (she's got her base powers PLUS Ms. Marvel's), but surprisingly, she comes up short. I think it's because I knew there was no way she was fully capped out with her powers (She wasn't as strong as Colossus, and her accuracy and battle skills are OFTEN suspect in the titles), but was still obviously a PL 10. So what happens is that her Attack/Defense Bonuses only go to +9, but her damage potential & toughness are at full 10s. So Rogue is strong, but has room to grow. Also, her Mimic power is really easy to stat down, since she's clearly established several times limits on it (it's permanent, she can be overwhelmed by the other personality, and she gains drawbacks & flaws like Cyclops' uncontrolled optic blasts). Like most other builds, I stuck additional effects to the power, choosing Stun for the most clear effect. Mind Reading is a minor, flawed ability she's developed by dredging up some memories, used much more in Claremont's first run, but I decided it was technically still there. Basically, Rogue plays like an unskilled, chaotic brick who makes up for lack of raw talent with durability and perserverance.

Edit-- AAAAANNND since I forgot to add in Super-Strength, she officially fills out her PL 10 (150) set-up, with an extra point over.

-Role in the X-Over: Gauntlet hung out with his boys the Dark Riders, losing to Stryfe in one panel, killing Apocalypse in another.

-Gauntlet is weird because, unlike the other Dark Riders, he outlived the group. In fact, I think he's still alive to this day. And he's even appeared in ANIMATED form, the the X-Men: Evolution cartoon, devoid of his allies. This is probably due to the fact that he was portrayed as either halfway competent (he led the team into combat, while Mainframe/Harddrive gave advice from the sidelines), or somewhat visually interesting (a green guy with sharp teeth and lots of guns, suitable to merc archetypes).
-As it stands, Gauntlet is a standard mercenary build (equipment points to spend on guns, good physical stats, all-around types of skills), with some advanced Senses built in. He's got that weird kind of 'enhanced strength' power that every Marvel mutant in the 90s had, but like I've said before, if ya don't show it, ya don't get it statted. I had to use Wikipedia & Uncanny X-Men.net to get more info on his sensory powers, but it seems to be basic rapid and extended senses, and I stuck in Tracking to give him some better bounty-hunting type skill-set. And now he's the most highly-pointed Dark Rider, and probably the best in basic combat. Which is pretty much how he was shown.
