Background:
Scott Toombs was always a thug. He’d grown up in a rough part of town sure, but his family made enough where he didn’t really need to resort to crime to survive. Instead he took to crime as a way to get things that he wanted. He started mugging people at 12, and at 15 he moved to car jacking. During his first car jacking he panicked and shot the car’s owner, and seriously injuring his daughter. He learned that they were named Kamadev and Chloe Scabella. He was terrified at first but once the fear passed he felt a sense of power at what he’d done.
Sometime later a masked girl appeared in his apartment and attacked him. She was fast, strong, tough. Scott was helpless against her and quickly found himself at her mercy. She raised her staff, ready to strike a deathblow. He shielded his face and heard some conversation. By the time he looked up a second costumed person grabbed him and bound him. Lyger III delivered him to the authorities for his crimes.
Toombs was quickly found guilty and sent to prison for what he’d done to the Scabella family. His years in jail turned a street hood into a dangerous man. Any problems he had with violence vanished in the daily survival inside the prison. He even killed a few people there and was never caught (do largely to the fact that he did favors for many of the less law-abiding guards). Finally after many years he managed to convince a parole board that he was a model prisoner. He was released back into the city of his youth.
He took a job working at an Auto-garage, but that turned into a cover for his new career, car theft. He’d spend his nights stealing cars, and taking them back to the garage where they’d be chopped and the pieces sold.
During one of those car thefts he found a brand new sedan parked in a bad part of town. He went to work and broke inside and drove the car away. When he dropped the car off with his contacts he noticed a silver case in the trunk. He claimed it for himself, collected his money, and left without thinking twice.
After returning to his apartment and making some dinner Toombs opened the case to discover a strange looking heavy pistol. He picked it up for only a moment before the pistol started to beep. He dropped it out of fear and backed away. Eventually, however, his curiosity won out in the end and he picked the gun up again. It looked expensive, but he couldn’t find a way to remove the magazine. He figured he’d need to throw the thing away after it ran out of ammo.
He took the gun with him on his next night out stealing cars. He was interrupted by a police officer and panicked once again. He drew his new gun and squeezed the trigger. The gun let loose with a controlled burst with enough power to shred the innocent patrol cop like he was made of paper. Toombs ran away as fast as he could, but soon realized that he had something special.
Toombs retreated to the country where he could practice with his new weapon without being disturbed. The first thing he realized was that the weapon never ran out of ammunition. What’s more the rounds that the gun fired depended on what he wanted it to fire. He was panicked and scared with the cop so the gun spit as many rounds as fast as it could. With but a thought he could cause the rounds to explode, penetrating tank armor, move unreal distances, stun, paralyze, and more. The gun essentially turned the user into a one-man army. Toombs felt that familiar power of having others lives in his hands rush through him and he knew what he needed to do.
High on confidence he broke into a small military supply depot near where he practiced. He got in easily and began to steal supplies that he thought that he’d need. He’d put his gun down to try on some kevlar vests when he was found once again. A sentry confronted him. Toombs was about to make a move for his gun when the sentry cut him off and picked up the gun. Toombs went white in terror, then the impossible happened. The gun generated a massive electrical charge that it used to shock the sentry to death. Toombs collected his supplies, and then poked his gun a few times, before picking it up and making his escape. Apparently, he was the only one who could even pick up the weapon.
With supplies, and the gun, Toombs dubbed himself Hollow Point and embarked on a career as a super mercenary. Over the years he spent using his gun he found better equipment, got to be a better shot, and built a reputation for himself. Within ten years he was considered one of the best gun men in the world. Super villains even began hiring him on a regular basis. If they needed extra muscle he was the man, if they needed someone assassinated, he could do that too.
He ran roughshod over everyone who faced him until he met the Protectors. The two costumed heroes who had sent him to jail the first time were fighting besides others and they exploited Toombs’ lack of hand to hand fighting skill and sent him back to prison. Humiliated by the Protectors, and exposed as a coward with a shiny gun, he was hauled back off to prison.
This time he didn’t wait long before he was broken out of prison by a super villain. He needed Hollow Point and his gun to back him up in his latest nefarious plot. Hollow Point agreed on the condition that the villain give him something to sooth his bruised ego. The villain agreed and gave him a chemical injection system that would pump his veins full of muscle enhancers that wildly increased the user’s strength and hand-eye coordination. Toombs was so happy with the device that he didn’t even mind when the Villain’s evil plan failed and he couldn’t afford to pay the remainder of his contract with the gun toting super mercenary.
After all he got away, what more could he ask for?
