#109: Morph

Post by Michuru81 »

MORPH (Power Level 8 / Minion Level 8)

Real Name: Saffron Harris
Height / Weight: 5’6” / 130 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Black / Hazel
Place of Birth: Queens, New York (December 25, 1988)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #2

Physical Description: Saffron has a cap of black hair perpetually kept in a perm. She has chubby cheeks and frequently breathes through her mouth.

Relationships: Richard Jorgenson / Chimera (father; deceased), Rebecca Harris (mother), Quinton Jorgenson /Quint (half-brother), Jacquelyn "Jacque" Webber-Sway / Tripper (crush), Alexander "Lex" Sway / Anomaly (rival); Saffron is not aware that Chimera is her father, nor that Quint is her half-brother.

Biography: For as long as she could remember it was just Saffron and her mother. She didn’t know who her father was—she didn’t care. Truthfully, the experience made her hate men more and question the need for their existence.

As adolescence swept over her, Saffron developed a reputation as the weird girl. She ignored boys, to the point of even refusing to look at them. All the while her friendships turned obsessive. By high school, only Jacquelyn Webber could stomach her presence and only out of pity more than anything.

NEW VINDICATORS: radix malorum est cupiditas—Saffron’s obsession with Jacquelyn went into full throttle after Lex and Jacque patched up their relationship. In Saffron’s eyes, Lex had screwed up and didn’t deserve her anymore… yet he was the one who had her.

Saffron used her powers to pose as Lex, originally intending to sabotage their relationship. Instead she attempted to use his visage to claim her friend’s love. It was a short-lived plot and once exposed lost her the friendship that was so precious to her.

Ultimately, Saffron ended up dropping out of school with graduation just in sight. She joined the Affiliation, under the belief that Adonis could grant her what she wanted most in this world…

THE AFFILIATION: ira deorum—Moments after declaring war on humanity, Acrimony offered those remaining at the New Vindicators Academy a chance to leave. Amongst those who elected to stay and join the Affiliation’s battle was the interim headmaster, Alexander “Lex” Sway (Anomaly)—Saffron’s most hated rival. Ultimately, she gave Acrimony the choice: either Anomaly left or she did. When Acrimony refused to turn away anyone, Saffron left the group…

Michuru81 wrote:Saffron's build is as simple as her mind: shift into something and tear apart what she can before she's dropped. Unfortunately, Saffron isn't bright enough to take full use of a variable power like Shapeshift--instead she uses it like a glorified Morph and impersonates people.

I suspect I'll be back to edit her again this November, when the core New Vindicators game returns from hiatus... One of my players has expressed an interest in ensuring the only way to leave the Affiliation is in a pine box so... whether or not Saffron is able to escape will have to remain unseen...

#110: Shiva

Post by Michuru81 »

SHIVA (Power Level 8 / Power Level 8)

Real Name: Brian Murphy
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 180 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Dirty Blonde / Blue
Place of Birth: Detroit, Michigan (January 24, 1990 – May 27, 2009)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #11

Physical Description: Brian is a bulky, dopy young man of biracial ancestry, with one black father and one white mother. He wears his hair in a part and has a growth of scraggily hair forming a bushy beard over his face.

Relationships: Anthone Murphy (father), Katherine Benson (mother), Latoya Murphy / Brown Recluse (aunt), Lawanda Murphy / Black Widow (cousin), Julie Harding / Rapunzel (short fling), Sarah Cohen / Mara (short fling), Melynda Halcyon / Bluetooth (short fling)

Biography: Brian’s father always tried her best to ignore the reputation his sister was building. A Neo-Sapien, Latoya Murphy was more popularly known as the Brown Recluse: a multiple-appendaged criminal whose battles with the Vindicators were frequently in the news. Anthone had inherited the same powers, though he chose to hide his and hopefully blend into society.

He had no way of knowing the woman he married was just trying to do the same thing.

When their only son, Brian, was fifteen, he began to display both parent’s genetic mutations. Having inherited the Murphy family’s power template, Brian had additional arms but he also received his mother’s destructive touch. Not wanting to see him oppressed for his powers, the boy was enrolled at the New Vindicators Academy of America.

NEW VINDICATORS: radix malorum est cupiditas—Alongside Beekeeper, Rapunzel and Stockholm, Shiva joined the Affiliation and fought against Anomaly’s group during the White War. Easily defeated he was rescued by Pandora and though she was eventually apprehended, he remained with the group.

NEW VINDICATORS: memento mori—Shiva returned to the school in the service of the Wisent. Alongside his cousin, Black Widow, he engaged Lodestone and Captain Canada in battle and was defeated once more. His defeat appeared to be a trap set by the kingpin, as his arrest and subsequent escape lured Loess into a battle her geokinetic powers were worthless against: one against the legal system.

NEW VINDICATORS: contraria contrariis curantur—The Affiliation executed an attack on Black Box’s Peoria base on the second anniversary of the White War and Shiva volunteered for the mission. During the raid, he was separated from his teammates. He eventually found his way to Cerulean, who swiftly ended his life and blamed his death on their enemies.

Michuru81 wrote:This is Ichigo after realizing his own Shinigami abilities. During this period Ichigo was constantly in his Shinigami state and as such has none of the drawbacks he previously possessed.

By this point, he’s trained extensively with Urahara in zanjutsu- the style of sword fighting utilized by the Shinigami. As a result, he has a little more finesse with the sword. He’s not just wildly swinging away, as shown in his fights with Ikkaku and Renji upon reaching Soul Society.

Speaking of his second match against Renji, Ichigo has a new trick up his sleeve in the form of his hollow powers. At this point, he’s not fighting to keep it in check… but it still demonstrates its presence in the creepiest of ways. The mask pops up to protect Ichigo from some serious injuries and after the battle, Ichigo bounces back… largely thanks to Hanatarou’s expertise in the area of healing but also courtesy of his dormant power here.

The biggest change is that Ichigo is no longer using powers borrowed from Rukia; Ichigo has his own zanpakuto now: Zangetsu. Zangetsu’s spirit is a calm man with infinite patience for Ichigo. The old man brings a lot to the table- starting with his knowledge of the world of the Shinigami and their methods of fighting. Additionally, Zangetsu has taught Ichigo valuable lessons- often in the middle of combat. During Ichigo’s fight with Zaraki Kenpachi he even stopped Ichigo’s bleeding. I opted to interpret this as enhanced skills and feats- augmenting Ichigo’s own natural aptitude for reading people’s movements in battle and adding lacking knowledge. Further, if needed he can inspire competency in this series’ main character or remove some conditions.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

#111: Oberst Moderation

Post by Michuru81 »

Real Name: Oberst Thomas Holbein
Height / Weight: 6’0” / 164 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Grey-Blonde / Blue
Place of Birth: Frauenfeld, Thurgau, Switzerland (August 14, 1963)
First Appearance: Illumintati #5

Biography: Born to the son of a halberdier in the Papal Swiss Guard, Thomas grew up idolizing the military men and dreamed of one day joining their ranks. He joined formerly in 1980- ten years after the Palantine Guard and the Noble Guard’s disbanding.

For four years he remained satisfied with his ceremonial role, proudly going about his duties and wanting little more from life. Then a Neo-Sapien shattered the Vatican, moving with one purpose: assassinate the Pope.

The Swiss guard were well trained combatants but against the teleportation abilities possessed by the man, there was little they could do to defend against them. Thomas’ own Neo-Sapien powers manifested then: the power to influence the powers of other Neo-Sapiens. He was able to disrupt the attacker’s plans and single-handedly saved the Pope.

Impressed by the man, the Pope instated a special division of the Swiss Guard: the Seven Virtues. The group consists of seven Neo-Sapiens in the Papal Swiss Guard, charged with defending the Holy See and her people from SPB attacks.

As Oberst Moderation, Thomas now commands both the Seven Virtues and the Papal Swiss Guard.

ILLUMINATI: The Circle Chase
When the Illuminati’s hunt for the Sephirot led them to the Vatican City they clashed with the Seven Virtues. As none of the heroes were Neo-Sapiens, Oberst Moderation was unable to do much more than utilize his military training in combat- leaving the bitter taste of defeat in his mouth for the first time.

Thank ye both. At the moment I'm dealing with two in particular... one, I'm re-reading the manga chapters to be sure I don't miss anything in the build. The other... well, I'm debating if I just want to stat Kon as he normally appears or if I want to go through the trouble of figuring out a way to represent him bestowing powers on whatever body he's in.

Any suggestions?

#112: Miss Mist

Post by Michuru81 »

MISS MIST (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Victoria Goodman (née Richmond)
Height / Weight: 5’9” / 129 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Grey-Blonde / Blue
Place of Birth: Elgin, Illinois (April 14, 1950)
First Appearance: Vindicators #350

Biography: Pretty and popular, Victoria Richmond perpetually lived in fear. At an early age she learned she was a Neo-Sapien and knew what that could mean for her family’s well-being as well as her social life. Though she wasn’t sure from which parent she had inherited her ability to turn into a cloud of gas, she wasn’t about to reveal such a secret in the off chance she told a parent unaware of what they were married to.

Instead she kept her secret for many years, hiding what she was throughout high school. She left behind her pompoms as she transitioned into college, majoring in education with a focus in literature. Before she knew it, she was teaching English at her old high school- alongside two of her former classmates.

For four years Patrick Goodman had been her boyfriend. The star of the gridiron, Patrick and she broke off when we joined the army. The two were polite to one another, though her interest had shifted to another old friend… Kenneth Bradley.

Doctor Bradley had been a scrawny geek picked on by their classmates. Perpetually defended by the kindhearted Victoria, he had developed a crush on her that she only learned of after the two had their Neo-Sapien powers exposed.

Along with Patrick and another coworker, Professor Philip Alston, the four educators became the fourth incarnation of the Vindicators. For years, Victoria defended the world as Miss Mist. She acted as Doctor Bradley’s second-in-command- leading the team on occasion and acting as the doctor’s girlfriend.

However, their terms as Vindicators came to an end when Doctor Bradley was captured by his father. In an experiment intended to be used on all of the Vindicators, Kenneth found himself unable to transform out of his liquid form. Fearing what could happen to the others, he disbanded the group. Not wanting to trap Victoria with a man who wasn’t even flesh and blood, he became cold and distant and pushed her into the arms of her old love.

Before long, Patrick and Victoria were married and retired from the exotic lifestyle that came with being a Vindicator. They welcomed their first child, Norman, in soon after and years later Victoria gave birth to the twins, Cassandra and Cloud. When the Goodman’s discovered the twin’s own Neo-Sapien abilities, they feared for the sort of hostilities they would face and elected to enroll them at the New Vindicators Academy of America- where the pair took positions, coming full circle in their lives as they became educators once more.

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas
For months their coworker Chimera had posed as Cloud Goodman, having unknowingly attacked him and taken the young man out of the picture. When Victoria found out, she barely had time to mourn her child; her former lover abducted her and her husband and revealed his status within the Affiliation. Announcing his intention to end Patrick’s life that he might claim her, things appeared dark until their daughter and her friends rescued them.

Doctor Bradley and Professor Alston’s betrayal exposed, Mister and Missus Goodman were promoted to the position of headmasters, overseeing all the affairs of the American campus of the New Vindicators Academy.

#113: Alan Dressel

ALAN DRESSEL (Power Level 5)

Real Name: Alan Michael Dressel
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 145 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Brown / Green
Place of Birth: Morton, Illinois (March 21, 1983)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #13

Biography: In high school, Alan Dressel became known as Alan the Invincible. In his freshman year he found himself as the lone survivor of his best friend wrapping his jeep around a telephone pole. The following year he walked away from his girlfriend meeting a semi head-on. As his junior year began he hydroplaned his Miata into his neighbor’s truck and stepped out of the car unharmed.

While his peers began to proclaim him to be unbreakable, they never once considered the possibility that what allowed Alan to survive anything was his Neo-Sapien ability manifesting: giving him invulnerability and more. What few injuries he sustained healed swiftly and he found that his imperviousness was so strong that he could repel attacks and even root himself to the ground.

Of course such aspects of his life were kept secret as he finished high school and transitioned into college, earning a degree in desktop publishing and meeting his future wife, Courtney Truman.

Before they married, the two confessed their status as Neo-Sapiens to each other. They graduated and wed and began their lived together- never once dreaming of what was coming for them.
The pair were discovered by the New Vindicators Academy of America and invited to join the faculty, following the events of the White War. Accepting the invitation, Alan found himself as the visual arts teacher for the school.

#114: Courtney Dressel

Post by Michuru81 »

Real Name: Courtney Dressel (née Truman)
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 132 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Dirty-Blonde / Green
Place of Birth: Tremont, Illinois (February 14, 1984)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #13

Biography: The eldest of three girls, Courtney was the first to inherit their mother’s Neo-Sapien power. From the moment she saw Courtney transfigured, with great feathered wings that erupted from her back and with her fingers and toes tipped in talons, Missus Truman knew that her eldest daughter would have a difficult road ahead of her.

She taught her how to control the transformation as best as she could but life had other plans and soon cancer claimed the woman. Courtney struggled to keep her Neo-Sapien abilities hidden and prayed her younger sisters would not follow her in inheriting the curse of flight. Though Madison never did display the avian powers, Addison did transform. Worse: Addison could not change back.

Addison was eventually recruited to the New Vindicators Academy of America while Courtney continued her education- graduating college with a teaching certificate and ambitions to help evolve the youth of the world into the future. However, life once more appeared to have other plans for Courtney…

She and her husband, Alan Dressel, were recruited to join the New Vindicators Academy of America, following Addison’s tragic death. They, however, would join as educators and help to give children like themselves a chance to grow up without the fear of persecution hanging overhead.

Post by Michuru81 »

TERAHERTZ (Power Level 6)

Real Name: Unknown
Height / Weight: 6’0” / 138 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Red / Green
Place of Birth: Unknown
First Appearance: New Vindicators #25

Biography: Very little is known of the young woman known as Terahertz, save that she is exceptionally loyal to Abaddon and that the fallen seraphim appears to regard her with some modicum of respect, despite her not being one of his children.

Terahertz first appeared when she assaulted the New Vindicators Academy. Using Occultus Unus, Paragon, Scrimshaw and Deus ex-Machina as distractions, Terahertz went after what Abaddon had sent her to retrieve and failed after an encounter with several students of the school. Ultimately, she was outwitted by Bluetooth and enraged by the young girl’s demeanor. She attempted to slay her with a radiation blast but Oscillator took the hit on Bluetooth’s behalf.

Upon seeing Oscillator undone by the blast, Terahertz fled- only to return three months later with the group of Nephilim she had gathered in her absence.

Fight #1: Alan and Courtney Dressel versus Terahertz

It was September 8, 2006 when Drew Jenkins found himself plunged into the world of the New Vindicators Academy and it was September 8, 2007 that my players honored me by once again sitting down for a session of this campaign...

We marked the occassion by keeping track of everything. We recorded what everyone rolled and did- all with the intention of presenting this, once the narrative reached this crucial point in our campaign's history.

Five months later we present to you the play-by-play of the fights that compossed New Vindicators #30. Here goes nothing...
Chapter LXXII: Who Can It Be Now?
When Alan and Courtney Dressel accepted Doctor Cheryl Colbenson’s offer to join the faculty of the New Vindicators Academy of America, they had no idea what they would be getting into. They knew they were accepting positions as teachers- in Alan’s case, he would be teaching visual arts while his wife would be teaching mathematics. They knew that their students would all be Neo-Sapiens, like themselves, and that they were helping to provide these young people with a chance to grow and evolve in an environment where they did not have to live in fear of being persecuted for simply being born different.

Then, three months ago, the day after Valentine’s Day, the school had come under attack. Former students from both their school and their sister campus in Vienna had returned to wreak havoc upon the institution; they had come to kill without provocation and hunt down the children.

Most of all, they had come to sow chaos.

Still, with their wedding anniversary drawing near, the Dressels tried to remove themselves from thoughts of Terahertz’s mysterious plot. They put the memory of her invasion behind them and simple strolled alongside the shore, hand-in-hand.

Under the moonlight and with the caress of a spring breeze on their skin, Alan kissed his wife and whispered confessions of his immortal love.

It was the perfect end to a perfect evening, Courtney thought. Still, in the back of her head she knew that given where they claimed their residence, things seldom stayed perfect for long…

The glowing energy trail caught their eyes first and immediately the two hurried off into the darkness to investigate. Their breaths were stolen as they laid eyes on the armored girl rising up from the ground…

There was no mistaking the sinuous form, clad in a black body suit and accented with silver armor. A mane of long, red curls spilled out the back of the helmet the intruder wore. Radiation illuminated her body- her aura already beginning to nauseate the happy couple.

Terahertz had returned to the New Vindicators Academy.
The Set-Up wrote:Alan and Courtney Dressel (PL 5), two teachers at the New Vindicators Academy of America, have just witnessed a glow descend upon the campus and rush to investigate. Upon arrival they come face-to-face with Terahertz (PL 6), a villainous villainess who is no stranger to the institution.

All of the involved parties are aware of each other. Each has one hero point. Initiative is rolled. Courtney Dressel rolls a 14 (giving her a 24 with her +10 bonus), placing her in the top of the order. Alan Dressel and Terahertz both roll a 6 and both have a +2 bonus to their initiative (due to tied Dexterity bonus). Normally, the tie would be thrown to whomever has the higher Initiative bonus but in this case, we give the go ahead to Alan Dressel, as he is player controlled.

Courtney Dressel is played by Aaron (Fathom, Coup Field, Gabrielle) while Alan Dressel is in the hands of Tribe (Frostbite, William Benson, Bluetooth). The GM (that’d be me) is handling Terahertz (duh).
Immediately Courtney changed shape. Alan ducked as giant, feathered wings erupted from her back, destroying an old blouse in the process. Her eyes were enlarged down and her nose appeared bolder, further emphasizing her status as a bird of prey.

She flexed her hands and her talons raked the air eagerly. “You…” she snarled. Though neither she or her husband had encountered Terahertz the night terror had rained down on the school, she recognized the woman from the description Hourglass had given. “You’re the one who hurt Oscillator!”

Courtney rocketed across the field and pulled back her arm to strike at the armored girl before her. A savage cry split the night as Courtney’s talons raked across Terahertz’s arm. Blood tricked down from the tear in the black bodysuit and brought a satisfied grin to Courtney’s face.

“What’s the matter?” asked Alan then. Terahertz turned in time to see his punch connect with her stomach, causing her to double over on his fist and waver ever so slightly. “Run out of schools to attack so you’re just… doing them over?”

“How witty,” growled Terahertz as she rose back up to her full height.

Alan caught the sight of her eyes, glowing under the mask the young woman wore. “Get back!” he cried, turning and trying to get clear of the attack.

Energy burst outward from Terahertz, killing the grass around her but failing to truly harm either of her opponents. Alan’s thick, unbreakable skin absorbed the effect while his wife easily leapt clear of the blast’s range.
ROUND ONE wrote:Courtney uses a free action to active her Container. Immediately she charges and rolls a 12. Normally, she’d only have a +2 bonus here, but because she’s charging she’s hitting 16 and higher. Terahertz is presently flat-footed, giving her a Defense of 10. Courtney’s attack connects and forces a DC 21 Toughness save from Terahertz.

Terahertz rolls a 14; flat-footed as she is, this only gives her a 17, resulting in a bruise and injury (as Courtney’s talons are lethal damage). Still, our villain has an Energy Aura up, which forces Courtney to make a DC 18 Toughness save against the radiation bleeding from her body.

Alan then charges as well and lands a critical hit with his punch. Still, factoring the educator’s strength into the equation, he doesn’t come off any more threatening than his wife. Terahertz rolls an 18 and now only has only a +2 bonus thanks to the bruise she received from Courtney. The save DC is 21, meaning Terahertz has failed and now has another bruise.

It’s now Terahertz’s turn to do some damage and she opts to use an area blast and evokes a DC 16 Reflex save from both to leap clear of the area. Courtney easily makes it, rolling a 15 (and possessing a +8 bonus here). Her husband on the other hand rolls a 4, giving him a whopping 7 on his save. Confident his impervious rank is higher than the blast’s power, he opts to keep the roll. Given that Courtney has Evasion in her avian form, she ignores the threat as well.

Courtney dove for Terahertz, brandishing her blood-stained talons and seeking to slash the villainess once more. “You got lucky the first time and caught me off guard!” Terahertz said as she leaned back and avoided Courtney’s strike. Alan rose up then, swinging wildly and missing as well. “You’re both out of your league!” She thrust her hand forward, pounding Alan with a blast of radiation from point blank range.

“And you’re not strong enough to even dent me,” Alan said, brushing off the assault and smirking fiendishly.
ROUND TWO wrote:Courtney swings again and rolls a 4 (6 altogether)- missing Terahertz by a mile. Alan mimics his wife’s movements and misses by rolling a natural 1.

Terahertz opts to ignore the agile Courtney and concentrates on Alan instead. She moves to blast him and rolls a 14. With her +6 bonus, this is a hit, however Alan’s eight ranks of Impervious allow him to ignore the villain’s Blast 6.
Again the couple swung for Terahertz and again they failed to connect. “You only succeed at being an annoyance,” snapped Terahertz. “You’re hardly a threat!”

“Speak for yourself,” growled Courtney. “You’re struggling against a math teacher!”

“Math huh? Then you’ll understand if I take one of you out of the equation.” He hand began to glow once more but this time a blast of radiation failed to target Alan. Instead she lunged forward, seizing his arm with her energy and evoking a satisfied smile from the depths of her twisted soul.

Alan shook her off but suddenly felt feeble and woozy. “What… what did you do to me?”
ROUND THREE wrote:The teachers have little in the way of options and swing again. Courtney rolls a 10 while her husband rolls an 8. With their bonuses, neither is enough to hit Terahertz now.

Terahertz, frustrated that this has gone on even this long, instead switches to her Drain power. Targeting Alan, she rolls and 18 on her attempt (a hit) and Alan is forced to make a DC 16 Fortitude save. He rolls a 14 and is forced to lose two points of his constitution.
Courtney’s claws raked across the back of the breastplate Terahertz wore and the sound of metal being scraped split the night. As Terahertz’s temple flared so too did the aura that shimmered around her. Courtney pulled back her hand in time and avoided being burnt by the invisible energy shielding the murderer.

“What did you do?” Alan demanded again, fighting through the odd fatigue coming over him and swinging his fist up for Terahertz’s jaw. The woman barely dodged the assault but found herself blessed with Alan being momentarily off-guard. Once more she made contact- seizing his flesh and causing his health to wane.

“I’m merely draining away your vigor,” spat the armor-clad girl. “Soon, you’ll barely have the strength to stand!”
ROUND FOUR wrote:Courtney rolls a 17 and connects but Terahertz rolls a total of 22 on the DC 21 Toughness save. Courtney is then forced to save against Terahertz’s Energy Aura (Toughness save, DC 18) and rolls a 14- exactly what she needed. Alan swings into Terahertz and misses. In his frustration he burns off his hero point to reroll and gets an 11; with his bonus it’s still not enough.

Once more, Terahertz lands the touch (rolling an 11 and receiving a +2 bonus to the roll) and Alan gets a total of 8 on the Fortitude save. He fails the DC 16 save by 8, but the effect is Drain Constitution 6, so he only loses 6 more points off his health.
“Leave my husband alone!” screamed Courtney, wildly slashing at the air. Terahertz easily dodged the untrained blow but wasn’t prepared for Alan seizing her from behind.

“I’ll hold her!” Alan cried. “C’mon, baby, let’s take her down!”

“Just like my tiger…” Courtney said with a fond smile.

“My minx…”

“My God,” groaned Terahertz. “How is it I’m sapping your health but I’m the one who suddenly feels sick?” She tried to escape Alan’s touch and land one of her own but he kept to her, fighting to hold her back and hinder her evasiveness.
ROUND FIVE wrote:Courtney opens the round by rolling a 10 on her attempt to attack Terahertz. Recognizing that he’s yet contributed to their cause, Alan opts to use the aid action on his wife. He rolls a 10 exactly, granting her a +1 to her attack or defense. Recognizing that Terahertz is concentrating on Alan at the moment, Courtney applies it to her attack instead.

Terahertz then goes for the touch attack and botches- sparing Alan’s fading health for another round.
Once more Courtney’s claws connected with Terahertz’s armor, scratching the breastplate but not the killer wearing it. Still Alan held on, doing his best to help his wife’s accuracy by restraining their opponent.

Unable to reach him, Terahertz lit up the sky once again and unleashed a burst of energy from her. Courtney raised her arms to shield her face from the wave of energy that cascaded over her. “Alan!?” she screamed in the aftermath of the surge. “Alan, are you-”

“I’m fine,” he said feebly, fighting to keep his hold on Terahertz. “I’m still here, baby…”

Terahertz let loose a chilly laugh then. “Not for long,” she boasted.
ROUND SIX wrote:With her mighty +3 to attack, Courtney swings and rolls a 19 (for a total of 22) and hits. Terahertz is forced to make a DC 21 Toughness save. With her +7 bonus (+6 after factoring her previous injury) she needs only a 14 to escape unharmed. She rolls a 17 and things look much darker for the couple. Courtney rolls a 18, giving her a 22 on her Toughness save against Terahertz’s Energy Aura.

Again Alan uses the aid action and lands a natural 20 for his attempt to help his wife. In honor of the roll we give him a favorable +2 bonus to the aid, giving Courtney +3 to her next attack.

Terahertz, seeing Alan wobbling feebly, opts to switch things up for her drain bursts. Courtney rolls a 4 (12 after factoring in her +8 bonus) on her Reflex save, meaning she fails to halve the damage (against all odds). Alan rolls a 2 (for a total of 4) and senses his end nearing. The two do little better on their Fortitude saves- with Alan making a 10 (rolling an 8) and his wife failing with a 7 (rolling a 3).

Courtney burns off her hero point to reroll and lands a 6. The rules on spending hero points turn that roll into a 16 and her +4 bonus helps her laugh in the face of the DC 16 save. Her husband, on the other hand, is as low as he can humanly go.

“Leave him alone!” Courtney snapped, flapping her wings and taking to the skies. “Unless you’re too terrified to take me on one-on-one!?”

“Don’t!” Alan called after her. “Just get away from here!”

“She’s just anxious for her turn…” Alan closed his eyes as Terahertz’s fingertips brushed his flesh once more. His stomach felt like it was on fire; he could feel vomit and diarrhea coming as a cold sweat came out like a deluge over his body.

As Alan fell helpless beside Terahertz, the woman glanced up to the skies. “What kind of guest would I be if I denied her what she so obviously wants?”
ROUND SEVEN wrote:Courtney’s player asks for clarification: the player knows that Terahertz can fly, but isn’t sure if Hourglass or Blur relayed this information to the others after their respective battles with the villain. The GM points out that the Dressels saw Terahertz land at the edge of the campus and Courtney’s player prays I leave this part out of the play-by-play.

In an attempt to draw Terahertz’s attention from her husband, Courtney takes to the skies and speeds off. She makes a bluff check to goad Terahertz into giving chase and rolls a 14. With no ranks in the skill, she has only her Charisma modifier to add- giving her a 15 when all else is said and done.

Terahertz opposes with her Sense Motive check (+5 bonus) and rolls a 12. She beats Courtney’s bluff and opts instead to finish off Alan. Though his Constitution is so low that he has a -5 penalty to his saves, he still possesses Impervious 8 and nothing Terahertz has can harm him. So, after Alan botches an attack roll, Terahertz pulls out her Nauseate power. Alan rolls a 9 which means he only landed a 6 on the save. That means he fails the DC by 10, leaving him officially helpless.
“ALAN!!!” screamed Courtney as she dove into a wild charge. “You better pray to whatever god you hold holy that he’s not dead, you bitch!” Her claw-tipped feet landed against the small shields Terahertz’s bracers served as. Her wings folded back, standing out straight as she swept down with her claws, leaving scratches across the helmet Terahertz wore but failing to injury her prey once again.

Under that mask Terahertz was wearing a devilish grin. “Thank you,” Terahertz said sincerely. “You’ve saved me the trouble of chasing you down.” Her arms swung up and Courtney leapt back, but not before Terahertz’s fingers closed around Courtney’s ankles in an attempt to drain away her health.
ROUND EIGHT wrote:Courtney screams at the sight of her husband falling prone and dives into a wild charge. For the complication of having her spouse downed (both have the Responsibility complication as they are responsible for each other) she earns a new hero point. Once more, she charges and she rolls a 14 on her attack roll, giving her 20 when all is said and done. It’s enough to hit Terahertz, forcing her to make a DC 21 Toughness save and forcing Courtney to make a DC 18 save against the aura. Terahertz rolls an 18, letting her beat the DC 21 Toughness save with room to spare (having rolled a 24 after all is said and done). Courtney rolls another 14, saving her from the aura once more.

Alan rolls his Fortitude save to recover from the Nausea and fails with a 3 (rolling a 6).

Terahertz grins at the thought that her prey saved her the trouble of chasing her down. She rolls a natural 20 on the touch attack (which fails to up the DC on her Drain) and watches as Courtney rolls a 5. Burning the newly won hero point means Courtney can reroll. She gets 13, letting her pass after applying her +4 bonus.
The attempt was a failed one though and grabbing Courtney only put Terahertz within striking range. With a savage scream Courtney sank her claws into Terahertz’s shoulders, piercing through the armor and breaking through to the flesh. A pained cry shot from Terahertz then but she kept her head in the fight and held tight to the girl’s ankles. A glow enveloped her hands then, siphoning away the teacher’s health while her husband could only watch on helplessly as his wife began to experience what he had succumbed to.
ROUND NINE wrote:Courtney hits after rolling a 16 and Terahertz rolls a 9 for her save. When all is said and done, she only makes 17 on the DC 21 Toughness save, giving her a second injury and a third bruise.

Once more, Alan fails his recovery check- this time with a 7 (having rolled a 9).

Going for another attempt on Courtney’s health, Terahertz rolls a 14, letting her hit the now-grounded Courtney. Courtney rolls a 6, giving her a 10 on the DC 16 fortitude save. Courtney loses six points off of her Constitution.
Again Courtney swept her claws at Terahertz and again Terahertz escaped the assault unharmed. She continued to drain away Courtney’s constitution, to the point that the girl began to feel weak and tired and light-headed.
ROUND TEN wrote:Rolling a 15, Courtney lands a hit on Terahertz, but seeing a natural 20 on my Toughness save doesn’t make the player happy. I roll another natural 20 in my attempt to grab Courtney and she rolls her Fortitude save. Courtney rolls a 17 on her Toughness save against the aura, but she’s also just lost six points off of her Constitution score- leaving her with only a +1 bonus to her Toughness save and helping her to beat the DC with her bonus.

The cumulative bonus to the recovery isn’t helping Alan beat his nausea (+3 bonus to recover versus the -4 penalty his Constitution imposes). When all is said and done he has rolled an 11, one less than needed to overcome his current condition.

Her Constitution now at 8, she only gets a +1 bonus to the roll. She rolls a 10- giving her an 11. She fails, but not completely. This time, she only loses five points, putting her Constitution score at 3.
Courtney kicked back, raking Terahertz’s arms with her feet. Terahertz staggered back, surprised by the sensation of her blood oozing between the bodysuit and her flesh. Still, she was surprised to find her attacker down- the prolonged exposure to her aura of radiation had finally incapacitated the young woman.

Alan struggled to stand and continue fighting. “Don’t bother,” Terahertz growled. “I didn’t come here for you.” Abaddon needed her to finish what she had failed to do three months ago. If she was to serve him… if she was to be strong enough to be one of the two heralds of Apocatastasis, she would need to complete herself. “Live. Tend to your woman’s injuries… and enjoy knowing that your were both powerless to stop what’s coming.”
ROUND ELEVEN wrote:Courtney attacks and rolls a 16. Even without the +2 bonus she gets to the attack, she’s hitting. Terahertz rolls a 13 on the DC 21 Toughness and her +7 bonus is now only a +5 thanks to her previous injuries. With only an 18 total, she fails by three, giving the young villain a new injury and bruise. Courtney however finally fails a Toughness save, rolling a 5 against the DC 18 Energy Aura. Thing is, her Toughness save is at -2 thanks to her lost Constitution.

With a total of 3 on her save, Courtney has failed by 15 and is now out of commission.

Alan now has a +4 bonus to his attempt to recover from his nausea; he also sports a -4 to his Fortitude saving throws due to the Drain effect on his Constitution. He rolls a 12- still not enough to overcome the effects of Terahertz’s powers.

Realizing she can do little else to Alan and recognizing him as non-threatening to her, Terahertz leaves him to tend to his wife, having more important things to tend to…
