Biography: The daughter of a cabbie and a housekeeper, Amy Fischer learned from an early age that you had to fight for the things you wanted most. Always determined and always headstrong, those who knew her had no doubt that she was going to go far…

…They just didn’t know how far.

After high school, Amy completed her four years of undergraduate study. It was here that she met Forrest Bedford and upon her graduation that the two married. The pair soon brought a child into the world: their son Mortimer. Eventually, Amy completed law school and passed her bar exam.

It was in her first year practicing law that she met Sam White—the proprietor of a pawn shop and a source in the case she was working on. The two carried on a short affair, one which Amy’s conscience shortly forced her to cease. She cut ties with her lover and hoped her husband never learned the truth. However, when she discovered herself pregnant, she came clean and told him what she had done.

The two raised the girl, Chienne, as their own and continued on as if nothing had happened. For years the Bedford’s had the perfect family life… until their son, Mortimer, was killed when John Olsen’s Neo-Sapien powers manifested.

The event pushed her to vehemently oppose Super-Powered Beings in any capacity. As a prosecutor she went after Neo-Sapiens with a vengeance and gained notoriety for doing so. Viewed as a crusader of the common man, it wasn’t long before she was elected as a United States senator, running on a platform of hate.

First Appearance: Vindicators #673 (as Chimera II)

Biography: Richard Jorgenson and Silvia Lee were two independent costumed villains with one thing in common… they both hated the Vindicator known as Professor Incendiary. The Vindicators IV had dealt with them both individually several times, but when the two teamed up… it was a match made in hell.

It wasn’t long before their mutual partnership became something more. It wasn’t long before the pair was wed. Intoxicated on love, the two vanished from the criminal syndicate they had all be created- enjoying the fruits of simply being with each other. They sought out a normal life and they successfully found it.

Unfortunately, they did not find their happily-ever-after. The villains surfaced again, almost two decades later, with a young boy in tow. The couple joined a new generation of Vindicators and introduced their teammates to their son. Speculation ran rampant though- wondering if the duo had adopted. It seemed the only explanation for how Chinese-born Silvia Jorgenson had a son with no Asian blood in his veins.

The simple truth was that her husband had once had an affair. His morphing powers made him an ideal spy and he was unable to simply throw in the towel on the life that had brought them together. She embraced a normal, mundane lifestyle and he occasionally slipped. Quinton Jorgenson appeared on their doorstep one day, the bastard baby Chimera had produced one night in Germany. He confessed his transgression and was forgiven…

…the first time.

It wasn’t long before the Vindicator known as Xianbei learned that her husband was having an affair with a teammate… their leader, Onyx. Onyx confessed the tryst to the man’s wife and told of the child she had aborted. Unable to bring herself to trust the man she loved with all her heart, she confronted him with what she had learned. The result was a parting that was anything but mutual and Silvia’s filing for divorce. Quinton wasn’t hers, true… but she was still determined to fight for sole custody.

Richard was not about to let his infidelity come to light. He was not willing to have his family walk out on him. He was not willing to have the truth be known. On a mission to Tibet, the group was separated. Richard stumbled upon his wife… alone in the caverns. He took the initiative and moved to keep her from leaving with his son.

Though most believe that Atlas simply engaged the duo in combat- costing Xianbei her life and Chimera his arm… the truth is far more disturbing. In the melee, the spear-fighter claimed her husband’s own arm and his throwing knifes found their way true to her heart. The shock of Richard’s actions might have been the catalyst, or perhaps she realized that the man she had spent most of her life loving never truly loved her… in her last moments, Silvia used her powers… the woman was called Xianbei for the nomadic tribe of Chinese peoples. She was a gifted warrior- owed greatly to her teleportation powers… but she also had the ability to switch minds.

In a heartbeat, she traded bodies with her husband. She saw her own eyes widen in shock at what had happened… and then nothing. A surprised gaze pierced through her soul with no effect. Silvia Lee died that day… but her soul lived on…

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas - Unfortunately for her, all that had transpired had been witnessed by Rift, the youngest member of the Vindicators VII. For years, Breanne Jordan lived with the knowledge that Chimera was not fully Chimera anymore. Eventually, as she began to help lay the foundation of the Affiliation, Rift turned to Chimera, reminding it that she knew many things: she knew that Silvia lived on in her husband’s body; she knew that Silvia had let Richard die; she knew that Chimera was Atlas; she knew Chimera had killed Bio.

Chimera joined the Affiliation- not to protect its name but to stop Adonis’ mad plot. It attempted to steal technology from Patriot Robotics that would allow it to fight Rift. It attempted to recruit Lodestone to the Affiliation, in an effort to have an ally on the inside. Every step Chimera took was with the hopes of bringing the Affiliation down… and it failed.

NEW VINDICATORS: Memento Mori - In the wake of the massacre, Chimera began a group known as the Watchers- an organization dedicated to monitoring anyone of power and assassinating them should they become an imbalance. Fathom discovered Chimera’s rouse and led the Department of SPB Affairs to their base, only to find Chimera already long gone…

NEW VINDICATORS: Absit Omen - Following the dissolution of the Watchers, Chimera sought to aid the Neo-Sapien cause by destroying their most terrible opponents: the Church of Genetic Purity. Chimera’s morphing abilities allowed it to slip into the organization. Mysteriously, Forrest Bedford never moved into arm’s reach of the woman, preventing her from cataloging his DNA so that she could pose as the group’s leader. Ultimately she felt forced to switch bodies with him…

This proved to be a tragic mistake as Forrest Bedford seemed prepared for such a move. He used the powers of Atlas to take down his own body and expel himself from the church. Now trapped in Forrest Bedford’s body, Silvia Jorgenson returned to the New Vindicators Academy to confess her mistake and warn them of the coming darkness…

QUINTESSENCE (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Corey Ander

Biography: Corey Ander spent most of his life growing up as an alien in a foreign land. His father, Professor Mark Ander, was a mathematical physicist who claimed Harvard university as his place of residence. In 1987, the professor found himself studying abroad at the University of Oxford. There he worked to better prove his new theory of phase transitions. Though it was only temporary, Professor Ander would live in England for the next ten years of his life.

It was there that he met Brenda Arnold, a doctor of divinity there at the school. The two fell victim to a whirlwind romance and were soon married and expecting. Still, when Corey was eight, his parents had called it quits. Brenda’s beliefs conflicted with Mark’s theories and when they realized that they didn’t see the universe the same way… they stopped seeing each other the same way.

Five years later, a thirteen-year-old Corey had grown tired of flying back and forth across the Atlantic. His mother had remarried- giving the young man a professor of theology for a father. Blinded by their bliss, they failed to notice Corey’s craving a life in Boston- not just vacations there. More than anything, he wanted to sit in Fenway Park and gorge himself on hotdogs…

…and suddenly, he was there.

Corey discovered his Neo-Sapien ability to harness quintessential energies- the very stuff of the cosmos. Still, he failed to understand such concepts. Needing to come to grips with what was happening to him… he turned to his father for answers.

Professor Anders told him that in physics, quintessence is a hypothetical form of energy postulated to exist as an explanation of observations of an accelerating universe. Many people believed it to be the very energy stars were made from. Not only did such an energy fuel the heavens… it fueled Corey.

It became his passion and little else mattered save his focus on these enormous energies building inside of him. With them he had burned through reality- his powers could literally take him wherever he wanted to go. If his mother insisted on calling England his home, he would master these energies and traverse freely between her home and his father’s.

In his training he discovered so much else… He could generate force fields and deconstruct matter. He could channel the primal energy of the universe to knit wounds and mend bone. His father was right: wielding the raw force of aether, there was nothing impossible for him.

A sense of duty led him to register himself with the New Vindicators Academy. He honored his mother’s wishes, enrolling at the European Academy in Vienna. It wasn’t long before Corey was the star of the school. He stunned his teachers with his control and wowed the students with his sheer power. Few understood why he was bothering with school when he seemed so beyond his peers.

NEW VINDICATORS: Sic Semper Tyrannis
During the 2007 Trials, Quintessence was picked to lead a squadron. For his team he recruited Antiquity, Fey and Pict- the three who were viewed as the bottom of the barrel by his teachers. At the time, he had voiced his belief that Fey better suited to lead, claiming he lacked the head and heart for leadership. When his pleas were ignored, he vowed to his team that he would carry them as far as he could.

During the Final Trial, Quintessence pulled fellow British hero Big Ben as an opponent. Though he easily bested the Brobdinagian boy, their brawl busted the Wreck Room and forced the round to conclude at the European Academy. The following day, Quintessence found himself facing off against Frostbite and Occultus Unus, along with his teammate Pict. Corey kept his promise and ushered Pict into the next round with him.

That round never came however, due to the involvement of several insurgents from Moksha. When Iris was abducted by the group, Quintessence was among the wave of graduates who took on the nation.

NEW VINDICATORS ANNUAL #2
Quintessence took time off from the school to track down a rogue student. Paragon had been committing crimes all across Europe, as if daring someone to stop him. Believing himself the only one with the power to take the man down, Quintessence attacked Paragon and was distressed when a strike force (led by Fey and consisting of Backlash, Kiln and Pict) intervened in the melee.

Though their force took down the villain, Paragon later escaped custody.

VINDICATORS #740
In the wake of several Vindicators’ deaths, the Department of SPB Affairs announced their intention of forming numerous teams of Vindicators. Quintessence accepted an invitation to join the European Vindicators, led by Falkenburg and consisting of the Æsir Apollo, the detective Shirley Holmes, his former classmate Taegan and the shape-shifting Thesbian.

Biography: They sat around the campfire, watching as Axeion frantically attempted to extinguish his marshmallow. His exaggerated movements caused the flaming sweet to fly from the stick he was waving excitedly. Fortunately, Taegan blocked the gooey incendiary with his forehead. “Laddie!” exclaimed Rush. “Are ye all right?”

“Fine…” growled the Grecian as he massaged the point of impact. He pulled away his hands, wiping away the remnants of the conflagrated confectionary and his companions were not surprised to find no sign of the burn remaining; Taegan’s healing powers were an incredible thing to behold; really, it was one of the many reasons the trio looked up to him and respected them as they did.

Then again… perhaps respect was too strong of a word.

“That was high-larry-us!” exclaimed the Rhino. “Meezers has never seen such a humorous sight!”

“I’m glad I could entertain,” Taegan said dryly, rolling his eyes at his cohort. “All right, so… whose turn is it now?”

The group had marked their graduation with a camping expedition. Tomorrow morning, they would all return to their respective nations- Greece, England, Scotland and the Netherlands; only three short months remained until these long time friends would find themselves teamed up with each other, competing in the Trials on American shores.

They had opted to whittle away at the hours by the time-honored tradition of telling tales around the campfire. Axeion’s story had been a blow-by-blow account of WrestleMania 23, including a shockingly decent rendition of Default’s ‘the Memory Will Never Die’.

Rush had told a scary story about a Vanir abducting couples in a rural Indiana town; Taegan had the distinct feeling he had seen a similar story in an episode of Supernatural.

His own tale had been one about The Faces of Bélmez; he had blended fact with fiction, turning an account of the actual happenings into a tale of ghosts seeking vengeance on the homeowner for covering up the murder of his son.

That left only the Rhino left to weave his tale… and Taegan braced himself for the worst. “This is the story of a boy,” began the young man, idly stroking his unshaven chin. Axeion and Rush would have been sitting on the edge of their seats… if they were sitting on seats. Instead, the pair sat on the ground, looking across the fire expectantly. “But not just any boy… a boy who could turn into rhinocerosi!”

“Oh, God…” begged Taegan, silently praying for a quick and painless death to help him escape what he knew was coming.

“I suppoooooooose…” the Rhino said, leaning back and swiveling his head idly in an attempt to create suspense, “that this young man’s name was… Eric.”

“Eric?” thundered Taegan. “Your name isn’t Eric!”

“Who said this was a story about ME!?”

Taegan blinked repeatedly. “This is a story… about a boy… who can turn into rhinos. How is this story not about you?”

The Rhino leaned around the fire and cupped a hand over his mouth to whisper to Axeion. “Meezers is gunna let youzers in on a little secret: this story is about me.”

“Ooo!” said Axeion excitedly, as if he hadn’t deduced that yet. “Am I in it?”

“Of course not!” exclaimed the Rhino, as if scandalized by such a question. “This is going to be a good story! Any story worth reading would leave you out completely!” The Rhino steeled himself up and looked down his nose at his companions. “Our story begins the day Eric was born to a pair of traveling circus clowns.”

“Clowns?” Taegan asked. “I’ve met your mom, A.J.- she’s a baker! And you’re father was a member of Europol!”

“Suuuuuure, my parents are bakers and super-secret spies but ERIC’S parents are clowns. Now shut up and let me tell meezer’s story!”

Taegan folded his arms across his chest, enduring the rest of this tale with a glare that articulated his agitation.

“Now, Eric’s parents’ names were Jürgen and Bürgen and their last name was Clürgen which is definitely not Tharivol, which mine is.” He accentuated this point with a smile that flashed off his crooked teeth; the Rhino had a morbid fear of dentists. “Now, Jürgen was a Neo-Sapien who could turn into any animal he had ever seen. He was more than a clown, he was an entire menagerie! People flocked from far and wide to watch him parade out as a giraffe or an elephant or a chupacabra-”

“For the last time, A.J., there are no such things as chupacabra-”

“I KNOW WHAT I FREAKIN’ SAW!!” The Rhino took a moment to calm himself before continuing. “Anyway, one day they were making their way through their native homeland of the Netherlands and there was a terrible storm. They were performing in Maassluis that night when they received word that the Maelantkering was malfunctioning and couldn’t close. Rotterdam was in danger and the circus folk turned to Jürgen.

“They knew that Jürgen could turn into a whale or SOMETHING to push the gates to close and save the world! Unfortunately, Jürgen had never learned to swim. Actually, no- he was scared of the water. Yeah, see, Jürgen had watched his parents… Dürgen and Fürgen Clürgen drown in a TRAGIC sluice accident. So, he was too terrified to go anywhere NEAR the water and save EVERYONE from the flood. So, it fell on Eric.

“Trying a rope around his waist and trusting that he had his father’s powers, Eric PLUNGED into the waters in the Nieuwe Waterweg and he transformed. In the chaos, he could turn only into Rhinoceros Unicornis- more commonly known as the Indian Rhinoceros –which EVERYONE who matters KNOWS is an excellent swimmer. With its great strength Eric pulled the gates closed and saved everyone! And then they named him mayor… The end!”

Taegan fell over laughing, unable to contain it anymore. Rush looked at him oddly, then back to the Rhino with curious eyes. “Is that really how you got your powers, laddie?”

“Of course!” exclaimed the Rhino.

“Of course not!” thundered Taegan between burst of laughter. “How can you even ask that!? You know that A.J. lies about everything! You can’t trust a word that comes out of his mouth…”

Axeion scratched his head. “Er -if that’s not how you manifested your rhino powers… how did you?”

“An excellent question!” exclaimed the Rhino. “You see, I was once just a scrawny high school kid who lived with his sickly aunt and uncle. I was always being picked on, but all that changed one day on a field trip when I was bitten by a radioactive rhinoceros…”

NEW VINDICATORS: Para Bellum
In an attempt to save some of his students from the Church of Genetic Purity, the Aurelius teleported Kitten, the Damned and Breeze to the New Vindicators Academy of Europe. There, he revealed his intention to train Kitten as a mage- having noticed the talent in her and citing her loose relation to himself.

They were greeted by two instructors at the school- Fey and the Rhino. Recognizing that magic was a potent weapon against Apocatastasis, the Aurelius began to teach all five students to channel arcane energy. Taking them to the Astral Plane to see what form their magic took, he watched as the Rhino displayed a talent for conjuration- specifically in healing magic.

Biography: Shirley Hennessey couldn’t picture her life away from Scotland Yard. Her father had long been an inspector for the renown agency and he had been beaming the day his precious child joined the ranks of the organization. It was there that Shirley met Carlton Holmes. From the moment they met it seemed as if a whirlwind had lifted her off the ground and left her clad in white at the altar of the church she had grown up in. It was like something out of a fantasy, only every fairytale she had ever read had a happy ending.

Carlton was investigating a surge of Spring-heeled Jack sightings. Neither of the couple knew of the creature’s origins- nor of his involvement with the original Illuminati. Still affiliated with the Thule Society, the bounding rogue was attempting to elude the Nephilim known as Goetia. When Inspector Holmes became involved in the battle he lost his life but had managed to help secure what the two had been after: a tankard containing the water of Mímisbrunnr- the well of knowledge.

After hearing her mutter, “I don’t understand…”, Jack decided to help her understand and made her drink the water. Instantly, Shirley Holmes found herself granted incredible insights as well as the ability to see the future.

Keeping such abilities a secret, Shirley transferred to Scotland Yard’s Division of Neo-Sapien Investigations- a unit within the agency dedicated to delving into crimes involving Super-Powered Beings.

VINDICATORS #740 - Shirley Holmes made a name for herself quickly and was soon being called “the real Sherlock”. The exposure drew the attention of the immortal Falkenburg, charged with creating a division of Vindicators in Europe. Shirley leapt at the chance- while attempting to stay on at Scotland Yard at the same time. However, with her new job she has found her greatest challenge yet: her husband’s death had begun to create feelings of resentment towards the beings she investigated and she now not only found herself on a team with several Neo-Sapiens, she found herself attracted to one of her junior members: Taegan Mallory.

APOLLO (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Apollo

First Appearance: Vindicators #740

Biography: After the destruction of Hyperborea, one of the four noble houses found themselves in Greece. There, the promiscuous Zeus had an affair with the human Leto and with her conceived twins, born Artemis and Apollo.

In their youth the twins proved to be skilled warriors though Apollo showed a vicious streak. His step-mother, Hera, had banished Leto and her children from the mainland, and Apollo had grown bitter over the years.

Apollo and his sister had been given Hyperborean artifacts by Hermes. Both received bows, though Apollo discovered his capable of bringing about plagues on those he struck. He opted to smite Niobe, his mother’s rival, for the sin of being proud of her children.

His vile disposition carried him into the Trojan War, siding with Paris and helping him slay Achilles, whom Apollo wanted revenge against for shedding blood in one of his temples.

Ultimately, Apollo’s deeds drew the attention of his father and the two fought. Zeus came out on top, banishing his son to the prison the immortal Æsirians had constructed to house their own kind.

VINDICATORS #740 - For centuries, Apollo lay bound in Tartarus. It is unknown how he escaped the prison, only that his flight has not gone unnoticed. Shambhala, the new capital of the Æsir, dispatched Artemis to hunt Apollo down and bring him back. Knowing he could not fight her off alone, Apollo revealed himself to Falkenburg, offering his services on the European branch of the Vindicators.

ILLUMINATI: Wild Hunt - The Illuminati, hunting for the Aurelius, arrived in Shambhala, only to find it in ruins. Many of the Æsir, including Zeus, had been slain- a seemingly impossible feat, given their immortality.

As Apollo and Artemis were the only members of Zeus’ house away from the attack, they are currently believed to be the last of their clan.

Thanks. The gods were a pain... They help to introduce an element to the world other than Nephilim and Neo-Sapiens and steer us a little bit into the magical side of the world. The problem became though... if the gods of the old days are still around, why weren't they doing anything about all the stuff going on in recent years.

To solve that problem, we have killed off a great number of the pantheons- leaving a select few alive. Apollo and Artemis are still around, as are Odin, Sif, Baldr and a few minor ones, like Thalia, Resheph and Marduk.

Biography: Lyle and Lana Lewis always knew that their son Lance was special. Diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at twelve years old, Lance needed more attention than his little sister Laney. Prone to forgetfulness and perpetually wandering off, Lance carried his condition with him as he transitioned into adulthood. As most youths his age were preparing to get their driver’s licenses, Lance was preparing to enter high school- two years behind schedule.

It was then that Lance discovered his status as a Nephilim… unstoppable super-sonic speed. Naturally, his parents became more concerned for their son. He had always had trouble staying focused and now his ability to reach subsonic speeds made his wanderings all the more dangerous.

The first episode of his wanderings involved his musings if the Sphinx (modeled after a cat) had a tail. In making his way to the Great Sphinx, Lance Lewis came across the costumed villain known only as BOOM!. Lance’s powers made short work of the thunderous Neo-Sapien and made him a media darling. Cameras picked up the action and Lance’s sudden appearance on the super-hero scene was well-received.

Since adopting the identity of Momentum, Lance has become a household name. Accepting numerous commercial endorsements, Lance is a spokesman for the likes of Sonic Restaurants, Stridex, Axe, Jolt Cola, Puma and other such fine products- essentially leaving his uniform looking like something from the NASCAR circuit. His popularity, however, was quick to become his undoing…

His independent run came to an end when the American Government realized that Lance Lewis had failed to claim the money Momentum had made in endorsements. Rather than be punished for such tax evasion, a deal was struck. These days, Momentum acts as Uncle Sam’s not-so-secret weapon. Though he admittedly gets by largely on sheer dumb luck, Momentum is a hero for the masses- he’s charming, naïve, an ornery showboat and quicker than the human eye. …Almost making up for the effects he suffers from ADHD.

Biography: Eva Renton was always a drama queen. Growing up she knew how to wrap her father around her finger, how to get her sisters into trouble, how to manipulate her mother… she was a gifted liar and she took the talent and applied it to the performing arts.

Before she knew it she was the rising star of the Royal Shakespeare Company. However, she was also impossible to work with. Her disposition made her frequent companion a bottle of whatever liquor she could find and soon her days performing and her nights drinking blurred together. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when she arrived to rehearsal drunk and demanding the name of the play be changed to Juliet and Romeo to allow her top billing.

Exiled from the troupe she stumbled into the woods where she saw a man in armor attacking a dragon. Believing it all to be an illusion summoned by the whiskey, she watched dazed as Siegfried slew the muse Melpomene and left her body to rot.

Eva approached the dragon-turned-woman to check for signs of life and was surprised to find a tragic mask falling from her face. Eva put it on and discovered the mask had the power to let her assume any role she could imagine.

Putting her powers to a use for the world, Eva assumed the greatest role of her life and joined Falkenburg’s newly drafted Vindicators of Europe. Though she has now experienced battle against super-powered foes across the continent, her greatest enemy still remains the bottle…

You know, my problem is that I am a build-aholic and I keep saying, "OK, once I hit 500 builds...OK, once I hit 550...OK, I will really get to writing and playtesting once I hit 600..." and so on, and so on.

Now that J-Mart is up to almost 700 builds, I will REALLY get going on things. Seriously. I mean it this time. :D
