Herman Shiffler is the product of German experimentation during World War II…but he himself was not activated until 1990. You see, he’s a clone of the original Herman Shiffler, whose DNA was heavily modified by combination with strange creatures from another dimension…creatures who had total control over their own bodies. Each individual cell responds to Herman’s commands, and he’s even capable of shifting their dimensional phase.

These days, he acts as an infiltrator and spy. The Advocate believes that Doppleganger works for him. In truth, Doppleganger is an agent of the New Reich, and the hidden Nazi stronghold of Ultima Thule.

Marty Baskin is an average man. Average height, weight, build. He had a good job working high steel, always well paid. He was, maybe, a little stronger than he looked. He never got sick. He could work without a safety line…he had plenty of experience. Then, one day, he fell off. 40 stories to the ground. Broke every bone in his body. Multiple compound fractures. Blood every where. He was covered in it. He was obviously dead. Until the blood covering him thickened…more flowed out…the blood hardened around him like a shell, an insect’s carapace. A Scab. Inside the Scab, Marty’s body put itself back together. 6 minutes after he hit the ground, on his way to the morgue in Neopolis, (he was headed for the special cases locker, where metahuman specialists would examine his remains for an explanation of the oddities) he woke up. He was in screaming agony, and he itched all over. He destroyed the ambulance, mostly by accident, and ran off into the city. He was found by Rush, who offered him drugs to ease the pain and itching, and recruited him into the Advocate’s Firm.

These days, Scab (he uses no other name), is an unkillable, nearly unstoppable fighter. You put him down (not easy at all) he gets back up. And he’s gross.
His method of using Fascinate is to talk about all the nasty things his carapace does, while picking at it, and flicking the scab pieces at the person he’s talking to. It leaves his targets distracted and somewhat queasy, but they find it hard to look away. He generally wears only faded, torn blue jeans…he believes most clothing is for humans…which he isn’t anymore. He has talked to Dr. Umbros’ Shadow Syndicate, with its metahuman superiority message, a couple of times…but he isn’t ready to ditch the Firm, and Rush’s drugs.

His construction skills used to be higher, but he hasn’t used them in a couple of years. He still has a fondness for striking from above, often making use of the highly common construction areas in Neopolis.

He’s 5’ 10, 165 lbs, covered head to toe in a cracking, flaking carapace of red-black clotted blood. Like a disgusting, burn victim version of the Thing.

edit: Fixed Defense/Toughness snafu. Used 2 points thus gained to buy one level of super strength. Scab is a playable villain.

Julio Guerrero is a mutant, a natural born metahuman. Raised in the barrio in New York City, he was more than happy to move up to the big leagues of the Firm in Neopolis from his penny ante gang stuff.

He’s not a complicated character…he’s just hard to hurt. He has no offensive powers, but between his High saves and defensive powers, combined with his reactive adaptation, which pretty much makes him immune to the first attack each round, he’s a very hard foe to put down. He hits his caps with Sneak Attack, generally used through Startle, although he can sneak a bit and occasionally pull off a standard feint.

Peter Hanson, called Sledge, is just a street thug who has gone through a back alley metahuman enhancement program. He was selling his brawn to the highest bidder, in New York, when the Firm found him and offered him a permanent position and relocation to Neopolis. He primarily does protection rackets, extortion, and enforcer work.

He’s a bout 6’2”, blandly ugly, vaguely Nordic or Germanic, and has a Bronx accent. His dirty blond hair is buzz cut, and he normally just wears jeans and a t-shirt, although he does carry his trademark reinforced Sledgehammer everywhere he goes. His eyes are a sort of watery blue.

Vickie Vinson's a streetwise Assistant DA in Neopolis. She takes martial arts because she has a job that sometimes turns dangerous. Not that martial arts helped any when an accident in the CSI lab exposed her to the acid power battery used by a supervillain's doomsday device: she gained acidic powers, which she carefully kept secret, to prevent an apparent conflict of interest from becoming public.

Realizing she could use her powers to help in the fight against crime, she recently joined Signifer, Osprey, Kensai, the Questioner, and Supernal in preventing an illegal eviction being carried out by a street gang. This turned out to have its roots in a demonic possession...during the investigation, she realized she could accomplish more if she had a secret identity for the things that might get the ADA in trouble, and so Vitriol was born. Donning a costume from the local super hero costume shop, she joined the fight against evil, and was a founding member of the newly formed Legion of Vigilance.

Vicki has green eyes, long blonde hair, and wears a scandalously tight black armored bodysuit, trimmed in neon green, with a cowl, while working. Also, a thin sheath slides over her hair, making it appear to be green. Her hands are covered by a green mesh that allows her acid to seep through.

Vicki has sworn, it should be noted, never to use her powers to win a case in court…but she has been tempted, more than once.

Doc Bronze knows who she is, and has recently admitted her into the Bronze Brigade.

Mach is actually an alien pilot, part of a crew sent to make first contact with Earth. Unfortunately, his ship was shot down while entering atmosphere by American defense aircraft. Ever since, he has been working to steal or build a FTL capable starship…but he’s working with primitive tech, and he’s not an engineer. Also, he considers himself at war with Earth, since his peaceful mission was attacked in an unprovoked manner. Why, his only protection is this very basic battlesuit, more for looks than anything…it doesn’t even have ranged weapons, only a ceremonial energy blade. It has no star travel capabilities, limited sensors, and it’s slow, maxing out at 4000 mph. Its personal enhancement qualities are minimal, as is its armor. It doesn’t even have a personal force shield!

Of course, most of the people of this planet have even more primitive equipment. He’s still not sure how they managed to shoot down his vessel…other than the fact that it had shields down as a sign of good faith, and so as not to ignite the atmosphere.

Mach is about six feet tall, rail thin. He looks, basically, like an anorexic elf. He’s very strong, for his people, but they come from a low gravity planet, originally, and have become dependant on their technology. Their atmosphere is mostly Earthlike, but he prefers to stay suited up most of the time, because of our pollution problems. His hair, should you ever see it, is wispy and platinum blonde. His eyes are purple, with three varying rings of color. He has six fingers on each hand.

His armor is silver, very sleek and highly polished, with purple trim, and the energy blade that springs from the right hand is purple as well.

Finally! I have reached the end!

(Okay, I had a fortnight's break in the middle where I barely signed in to the forum, but that's not the point!)

Out of the last couple I must say I like Scarab (though his toughness appears to be out of whack, 9 + 6 is not 14).

Anything else of my work you particularly like, or dislike? Also, why's and wherefores...Why do you like Scab? I am always striving to improve my storytelling, character creating, worldbuilding abilities... so real criticism is useful.

I have no idea why I read it as Scarab. Possibly the comparison with an insect carapace. Aaaaanyway...

I think it's mostly the lack of the normal "supervillain" tags which make for a more believable character, combined with the mixed blessing of the powers he wound up with (I've been reading my Aberrant books again, it always does bad things to my comic book sensibilities).

Jack can I ask you to throw down some original Canadian super heroes? I don't see you having any up yet and I always like to see what people come up with. I have but a single specific, if you can manage it, a Canadian battlesuited character.
