background:

Barbara Jenks was your typical overachiever in school and college. Classes weren't enough for her. Classes, Cheerleading, Student Body, and Community Involvement weren't enough for her. She still kept up an active social life, and even held down a part-time job.

And even after college, when everyone else around her was having trouble with a full-time job and a social life, she was doing overtime at her job, charity work down at the local homeless shelter, volunteer work at the museum, and an active social life.

What no one knew was that she was tearing herself apart. Raised by her parents with the ideal of never being idle, she was driving herself to the edge.

The final straw came shortly after Patriot came to the public eye. Due to a mis-scheduling, she found that she had several very important things to do all at once.

She made three of them, though she didn't really realise it until she got home that night and met herself, twice over. She doesn't really understand, but she's happy enough to have the extra help. The next surprise came later, when she found out that splitting into three wasn't the only thing she could do.

With her history of social conscience, it wasn't a big leap for her to add a little 'helping the police out' to her activities.

She's still pushing herself, but with three selves and a slightly enhanced physique, it's less harmful than it has been.

now, before Libra logs on, spams the board and buries this thread, i figured some of you might want to know how things are going in Paragons: the Breakout Year

so, here goes:

Day 1. one week after Patriot
---

1. rick/Vanguard gets a premonition of a firey paragon on a plane. he flies to chicago and delays the flight through ananymous tip and pulling the fire alarm. firey guy goes off early, but by an unexpected use of super-breath, vanguard saves the people in the terminal and gets airport fire control teams to hose down the firey one.

2. meanwhile, elsewhere in Chicago, dave/Steelie's hounded by some sort of death squad (probably on the initiative's dime), and is used to almost start a riot. Psider watches the mayhem with perverse fascination. in the end, several are injured, two cops are dead, but there's enough evidence that dave's been set up that the cops let him go for now.

3. ed Boring and barara/tryptych deal with a riot, only to discover the cause was Crybaby's breakout. the powered infant is pacified, and both he and his mother were safely escorted to a nearby hospital.

4. Phil is contacted by the man who will become Enigma, agrees to help dig up the dirt on the initiative.

5. Annie bears witness to the birth of Logar. everyone assumes at first that virtis broke out, until his powers leave him (as well as memories of the event)

Day 2 (two weeks after Patriot)
---

1. Vanguard and lee face an invasion of the boston common by terra cotta soldiers, resembling those of feudal china. lee takes a nasty hit, but the two are presently winning the battle

2. Brbara gets a visit from a certain precog. she convinces him she's not a threat, he lets her know other multiple-type paragons will go bad in a big way

3. Ed and Psider are somehow sucked into the imagera, encounter a mysterious figure who seems to recognize them both and warns about events in chicago and evanston, before the pair are returned to reality

4. annie and prof. virtis discuss the Logar entity and realize it's becoming self-aware

5. after returning home, Ed is contacted by Phenom, who wants to hire him as her personal trainer/combat instructor

6. Psider returns home, find some sort of program(s) have been co-opting his PC. attempts to get answers have led to mention of something alled the creche

7. Phil tracks down dave to figure out the initiative's motives behind the chicao events of day 1. he gets the info, dave offers to help as the investigation's muscle if the cops don't press charges. their talk is interrupted by the debut of proteus. dave tries to talk it down, then beat it down when it kills a cop, phil teleports the 3 to somewhere in ohio. proteus proves it's combatsuperiority, an ow phil and dave are trying to keep it from levelling chicago by appealing to its ego and paranoia. this will probably end badly.

8. barbara simultaneuously investigates the precog, reports of other multiples, and a woman who reported her own murder over in california
