Ultra Legacy* - The Animated Series

The Earth's mightiest heroes the Ultra League vanished without a trace some fifteen years ago. Their Headquarters the Ultra Hall was discovered to be under total lock-down and sealed with a time lock. The Hall's computer AI and major-domo Kirby would only respond to any questions with "This system does not recognized that command function - time lock elapse…” and a countdown.

For fifteen years the world has waited - Today the time lock reached zero. The Ultra Hall’s security shields dropped and the main entrance door opened.

 The Player Characters are all Legacy characters connected to the Ultra League in some way (former sidekicks - offspring - namesake) They have gathered together on this fateful day to finally discover the fate of the Ultra League.

You will notice the by-line "The Animated Series". The idea behind this is to give a benchmark for the general style, level of "grim and grittiness", and over all themes of the campaign. Admittedly I am leaning more towards JLA/JLU, Batman Beyond & X-Men: Evolution then the Teen Titans or Legion of Superheroes. And while I love the noir of Batman: TAS, I find that The Batman new animated series is a better fit for what I hope to achieve. This also gives a good benchmark for Power Level as I like the fact that even Superman can take a beating.

Characters are built on the standard PL10/150 pp model. One last note: on the subject of Impervious protection High levels are NOT appropriate for the game, please keep this in mind. Otherwise all powers and abilities are open (with GM right to veto or ask to tone down those that might not fit the campaign). The setting is Freedom City sans it's supers and super history, but with all the same places, law enforcement agencies, maps, etc.

Also for Character Creation, I'll be using the Ultimate Powers book as well as the main rules, but no 'optional' rules from the Masterminds Manual for this game.

* This title will be changed to reflect the team name chosen by the characters once the game gets on its way.

Now without further ado, I present:

The ULTRA LEAGUE

US Avenger - Super-soldier

Roger Stevens, was born July 4, 1917, to poor Irish immigrant parents, and grew up a frail youth during the Great Depression. His father died when he was a child, and his mother died later when he was in his late teens. Horrified by newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the Army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea to be accepted, General Phillip Chester of the US Army offered Roger the opportunity to take part in a top-secret experiment called Project: Superman, as the military was trying to create an army of super men to use in WW2. Roger agreed and was taken to a secret laboratory in Washington, DC, where he was introduced to Dr Miles Booth , the creator of the Super-man Serum.

After weeks of tests, Roger was at last administered the Super-man Serum. Given part of the compound intravenously and another part orally, Roger was then bombarded by "vita-rays," a special combination of exotic (in 1941) wavelengths of radiation designed to accelerate and stabilize the serum's effect on his body. Roger emerged from the vita-ray chamber with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human.

Roger was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program, teaching him gymnastics, hand-to-hand combat, and military strategy. Three months later, he was given his first assignment, to stop the Nazi agent called the Iron Eagle. To help him become a symbolic counterpart to the Iron Eagle, Roger was given the red, white, and blue costume of US Avenger.

Then, during the final days of the war, on or before April 18, 1945, he was trying to stop a bomb-loaded drone-plane launched by Iron Eagle when the plane exploded, apparently killing him. At the last moment a mysterious figure “from the future” rescued him and brought him to the year 1984, where the time-displaced hero became a member of the Ultra League. The identity of the “future man” remains a mystery.

Justice Machine - Battlesuit

Blessed and cursed with extraordinary genius, Wayne Bruce is the son of inventor and defense contractor Thomas Bruce, and geneticist and educator Helen Bruce. Thomas met Helen while the two were working on an experimental biological agent that could work as body armor. The two fell in love and married. While Helen was pregnant she was bitten by a lab monkey and fatally infected with a regenerative virus. The virus mutated her unborn child, Wayne, growing additional "undifferentiated" neural tissue throughout his body, as if his whole body itself is a brain, which augmented his intelligence while causing chronic pain due to the over-stimulation of the neural cells that make up his skin. Helen died during childbirth, but Thomas saved Wayne by coating him in their bacterial bio-armor, which consumed ordinary skin but not Wayne’s constantly regenerating neural flesh.

Becoming a wealthy celebrity and science prodigy, young Wayne founded multi-billion dollar design and manufacturing corporation Corsair International. He also became an infamous playboy, and womanizer.

When Wayne was taken hostage along with other civilians by Guatemalan guerrilla terrorists, their captors demanded Wayne's technology in exchange for the hostages' freedom. They killed one when Wayne refused to cooperate. Pretending to acquiesce, Wayne built makeshift armor and defeated the terrorists with it. Years later, Wayne used a new Justice Machine to save the President from an assassination attempt, becoming a bigger celebrity than ever, but refusing to sell or mass-produce his armor technology.

The Olympian - Paragon

Hercules is the son of Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, and Alcmene. Zeus seduced Alcmene in the guise of her husband, King Amphitryon of Troezen. Thanks to Zeus's enchantment, Hercules was born with the potential for extraordinary strength, which he first displayed before he was even one year old by strangling two serpents which attacked him. Hercules had many notable adventures in ancient times. He sailed with the Argonauts (with them he may have battled the Akaana), faced the Hydra, saw the death of Medusa, and defeated Antaeus.

As an adult, Hercules is best known for his celebrated Twelve Labors, which were performed in part to prove his worthiness for immortality to Zeus. In the course of these Labors, Hercules provoked the wrath of an immortal who remains his enemy to this day. In temporarily capturing Cerberus, the three-headed hound that serves as guardian to the Olympian underworld , Hercules offended Hades, the lord of that realm. Hercules was exiled from Olympus by Zeus as a means to keep peace with his brother Hades.

Hercules began to wander in search of new adventures. Like his father, Hercules is also notorious ladies' man. In modern times Hercules has chosen a superhero persona and was a founding member of the Ultra League.

Mr. Big - Size Changer (shape shifter)

Jim Gatling was born in Watts, Los Angeles, California. Biochemist Dr. Jim Gatlin worked in the Plans and Research Division for Wayne Bruce's Baltimore factory. He was hired to be the lab assistant of Dr. Hank Palmer (aka Captain Atlas). Palmer was stuck at the height of 10 feet for a time and Dr. Gatlin helped him find a cure to change his size back to normal.

Dr. Gatlin moved to the West Coast and at some point acquires the formula to "Atlas particles" which give him the ability to grow in size like his former employer. Taking the name Mr. Big, he helped US Avenger and Justice Machine fight the Crazy 8 and was offered membership into the Ultra League.

Little Lady - Totem insect w/shrinking

Jenny Nelson is the daughter of world-renowned scientist Vernon Nelson. Early in her life, she was a flighty, self-centered dilettante living resplendently on her father's fortune. When an alien brought to Earth during one of her father's experiments murdered the elder Nelson, Jenny contacted his colleague, Dr. Jim Gatling. She told Gatling of her resolve to bring her father's killer to justice. Gatling revealed his secret identity as Mr. Big, and Jenny underwent a Biochemical process involving his Atlas particles that killed the young woman. However, unknown to either, the intervention of a Totem of the Parliament of Eden saved her and allowed her to shrink to insectoid proportions and to grow wings. She can also generate a bio-electric sting which she discharges through her hands. She also sometimes eats bugs, forms larval nests and lays egg-like constructs, side-effects of her insectoid genetics.

As Little Lady, Jenny and Jim tracked down and defeated the murderous alien Ran-cor, banishing it to its home dimension. Gatling and Nelson gradually fell in love and became crime-fighting partners in their costumed identities.

Troubleshooter - Archer (weapons master)

A former Olympic archer, James Day became a U.S. intelligence agent over a decade ago. Active around the world, he was present for the liberations of Kosovo and Afghanistan, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall. He became a close friend and frequent collegue of fellow agent Harry Powers, and the two operatives were key founders of the modern intelligence agency A.E.G.I.S. Both rose thru the ranks until Powers became the agency's director and Day (code-named Troubleshooter) became an elite agent of A.E.G.I.S.'s black ops division, often partnered with ex-KGB espionage operative Illyana Romanov (code-named Nightlynx). Troubleshooter and Nightlynx were assigned to membership in the new celebrity superhero team, the Ultra League, complete with newly falsified backgrounds to make them more acceptable public figures. The League members are aware of their ties to A.E.G.I.S. and the two have proven themselves time and again.

Silver Streak - Speedster

Scott McDonald is the son of the genetic terrorist known as Hyperion, and brother to the hex-casting Gypsy Rose (the two were separated as babies and raised without knowledge of the others existence). Eager to prove himself to Hyperion since he was a child, Scott only received his father’s constant criticism, ridicule and resentment.

When Hyperion attacked Washington, D.C., with a fleet of reprogrammed Centurian robots, it was Scott who surreptitiously removed his father's helmet -- enabling the mystic hero Gypsy Rose to transform their father into a living super-nova. His actions proved his worth as a hero. He was invited into the Ultra League, where he was re-united with his sister.

Gypsy Rose - Mystic

Sabrina Stevens is the daughter of Hyperion and the sister of Silver Streak. At first she believed she was just a energy manipulating mutant. As she became more adept in her power's use, Sabrina did not realize that she was tapping into genuine magic. Until she was approached by Madam Monarch (the sorceress supreme of Earth) and spend several years under her tutelage. Training with Monarch increased Sabrina's control of her 'chaos magic.' Taking the name Gypsy Rose, she became one of the founding members of the Ultra League.

Oni - Bulk (powerhouse)

Patricia Ichiki is the second generation child of her family born in America. Her grand parents immigrated to the States after WWII, both where child survivors of the Hiroshima bombing. Unknown to Patricia she was born with a dormant meta-gene from her father’s side.

Patricia Ichiki grew up to become a meek and mousy lawyer, the daughter of Police Chief Jon Ichiki. Agents of Nicholas Oliverti, a crime boss who had crossed paths with her father, shot and seriously wounded her on a day when her grandfather was in town. Pappa Ichiki gave her a blood transfusion, as no other donors of her blood type were available at the time; the radioactive blood mutated Patricia transforming her into the she hulk, Oni.

Nightlynx - Costumed detective

As Illyana Romanov grew and matured, she proved to be an amazing athlete and scholar, while gaining distinction in the USSR as a ballerina. Eventually, she married Alexi Gregov, a distinguished Soviet test pilot.

Soviet government intelligence (KGB), decided that the skill set of this couple would make them superb special operatives, and split them up while Alexi was away on a mission. Trained as the Red Star, Alexi became the Soviet Union’s answer to the United States’ US Avenger of WWII.

Natasha was told that her husband died in an experimental rocket crash, and was drafted into the KGB. She became their best operative from being trained in the infamous Red Room Academy, becoming excellent at fighting and information gathering. It was here she was first dubbed the “Nightlynx.”

Nightlynx’s first field assignment was to assassinate Professor Anton Rasputin for defecting from their country by infiltrating Corsair Industries in America. Wayne Bruce, the Justice Machine, continually foiled her schemes against Corsair Industries. She even attempted to use Troubleshooter , posing as a criminal at the time, to help her in her schemes.

Her final mission to the U.S. was a momentous one. Not only was it the first time she operated in costume, but it was the first time that she felt her love for Troubleshooter weakening her loyalty to her country. Soon, she would seek amnesty in the A.E.G.I.S. organization. She was originally part of their covert operations ("black ops") team, but was subsequently moved to public status and assigned to the Ultra League after a publicly acceptable background was written for her.

Congrats on full recruitment in less than a day!

I sort of had my eye on playing "Lady Bug", but good luck to everyone who sprang when they got their chance. :)

Campaign Ground Rules

I straight-up stole some of these, so thanks for the more experienced PbP'ers who suggested/posted them. Especially thanks go out to Nighthunter from the 'Rooftop Society' game thread for the idea of pointing out the use of Hero Points to edit scenes.

I'll modify the posting rules as the game goes along, and alert y'all when things change.

Play By Post Rules
 Players must be able to post at least twice a week, Monday through Friday. If a player does not post within a period of a week the GM will post for them, using the most likely action for the character. If a player does not post in a month, their character will be removed and another player invited in.
 Players only have jurisdiction over their own characters, while it is acceptable to use other player's characters in the course of conversation, the character's owner always has veto rights over a character's words.
 Editing a Scene - A player may spend a hero point to add a premise to the game, or change a scene slightly. For example the PCs are speaking to a waitress, a PC may spend a hero point to say that the waitress is his girlfriend, from that point on the interaction will continue in that way.
 Players don't block - This means that if a player has added a premise to the game (such as Don Fantiglioni always eats at his restaurant on Tuesdays) other players are obliged to agree.
 Combat Rolls, Skill Checks etc - Players are asked to sum up their action first and then show their rolls unobtrusively at the end of the post.
 Re-rolls, character should state when they will use re-rolls. Please note this information, and other 'Standing Orders' you would like, on your character sheet.
 Spending Experience: I'm going to ask that any pp expenditures from experience are role-played out during the game. For example, if Midnight Mage decides to create a new Alternate Power to reflect sudden inspiration, I'd like to see that role-played a bit, not just "Oh, spent a point here, just so you know."

Ok folks I borrowed this from another game as it sums up a good working rule structure. I thank you all for making this a so far wonderful first time out as a PbP GM.

Days of Then and Now
~ Chapter One ~

Narrator:
The city is alive with activity. The air is almost electric. Today is Opening Day and both the news agencies and law enforcement have waited for this day to come and a count down to end.

Outside the Ultra Hall, the famed head quarters of the Ultra League, a crowd of civilians have gathered. They are being held behind blockades by officers of the FCPD charged with crowd control. While AEGIS agents, some outfitted with MAX armor, stand at the ready.

Just outside of the blockade is ace reporter Geraldo O’Hara of Action News 19. He and his news crew are panning the crowd. People with signs and posters with words of encouragement and well wishes are mixed with the more morbid sightseers hoping to catch a glimpse of some fallen hero entombed for fifteen years.

Among those gathered are heroes and other associates of the Ultra League. They stand at the ready with AEGIS agents waiting for the word to be given to enter the great Hall. All eyes seem to flicker from the Hall’s entrance to a single man. A tall black man with gray hair dressed in an AEGIS uniform, Harry Powers is on the scene.

The Hall’s security shield dropped just moments ago. Everyone present seems to have collectively taken a deep breath and held it. A hush falls over the crowd as the double doors of the Hall open.

OOC:
Please relate how your character arrived ‘on scene’ and his/her reasoning for being there. Then roll initiative for your character. You have until Thursday Morning, around 11 AM, to give your responses. Have fun!

(Init: 13)

Andrea Yue stood among the crowd, trying her very best to blend into the crowd (or at least as well as a 500 pound Asian woman can blend into a crowd, but I digress)

It had been fifteen years since the disappearance of the Ultra league, fifteen years since she had seen her partner and mentor Oni alive. Alot had happened since then: Andrea had grown up, went to college, became more powerful, became fat.

Andrea's Grandmother had begged her not to come today. Tatsuki-Baba (as Andrea called her) had never been the biggest supporter of her heroic lifestyle, and had done everything to keep her out of what she and Oni had affectionately dubbed "the game".

Andrea did continue "the game" for a few years after her mentors disappearance despite the wishes of her Grandmother. As an act of attrition Andrea did take a leave of absence from costumed heroics while she was in college, but in her bordeom Andrea found another use for her powers: amateur superhuman eating contest circuit (Yes, I'm serious). The unfortunate side effect of her new hobby left her five times the lady she was before college. Andrea's Grandmother, while feigning disgust, was secretly overjoyed at what she thought was the final nail in the coffin of the second Rokurokubi.

But as it turns out, when your body is made out of rubber, things like heart disease and diabetes aren't really that much of an issue. Andrea did not see her new weight to be much of a detriment to her superheroic career.

Indeed, it was probably a blessing in disguise: Afterall, who would expect Andrea Yue, overweight film store clerk, was in fact the beautiful and exotic Japanese rubber woman Rokurokubi.

Andrea bit into her hamburger (she had picked up Mcdonalds on the way over to the hall) and looked at her watch. It was almost time for the doors to open. As discretely as possible for a woman her size, she made her way to a nearby alleyway to change into her heroic identity. Once out of the sight of any passersby, Andrea extended her mouth to swallow the burger and the rest of her food in one gulp (another benefit of an elastic body) then began her transformation.

It was an amazing sight, watching as Andrea's rolls of flab collapsed in onto themselves as the drew into her body. as she slimmed down to the body of an athletic, stacked 100 pound woman, her civilian clothes, now far too big for her, fell to the ground, revealing her super hero uniform underneath (which was, by necessity, designed to stretch as far as she did, and thus still fit her).

Rokurokubi rubbed her hands down her slimmed waist and exhaled a breath of relief. Holding back her tremendous girth was easy enough, but pulling it all in took a slight bit of effort (like taking a REALLY deep breath)

"Alright then," Rokurokubi said to herself, "Time to get into position."

Rokurokubi bounces up along the walls of the alley to the roof of the building across from the hall. Once there she crouched down and watched and waited for the opening.

Whatever was inside of Ultra Hall, Rokurokubi had a right to it, so she intended to be the first inside once it reopened (and hang AEGIS if they thought different). On the other hand, if something bad was to come out of the hall after the countdown was up, then the crowd that had assembled might be in danger. either way, that didn't mean Rokurokubi couldn't ham it up for her big debut.

Standing in the crowd, Regina keeps to the outskirts. She's ready to make her surprise appearance, but is also hesitant to show up in costume. Nobody has ever seen her in costume before. What will they think? Will they simply laugh?

For years she's idolized the memory of the Leaguer known to the world as Silver Streak. Meeting him has been a dream for so long, and now... will she get her chance? So much has happened in the short time she's had her powers. Will she be worthy? Will he accept her as a sidekick?

She's dressed in white designer jeans with a red Phoenix design running down the ouside of her left leg. Her collared shirt is red, and she wears a black choker collar. Her costume sits folded tightly in a backpack slung casually over one shoulder.

Chewing her lip frantically, she stands on tip-toe to see past a fat man with a baseball cap. Aloud, she wonders, "Is it open yet? Is it time?"

Every fiber of her being seems to be humming with anticipation.

Elsewhere in the city, not too far from the Ultra Hall was a short, seldom frequented alley which ended in a cul-de-sac. A large mural adorned the brick wall at the end of the alley, a mural that had been part of that area of town for as long as anyone could remember – so long, in fact, that no one could remember who painted the impressionistic image of 4 heroically proportioned men in the simple togas worn by the Ancient Greeks in ages past.

A slight crackling pervaded the air, accompanied by a vibration that seemed to have no source. A sense of expectation thrummed through the area as a bright, neon glow surrounded one of the masculine images. Incredibly, impossibly, the painted image moved-slowly at first, a gently stretch of the neck, and the shoulders. Momentarily, the image become three dimensional and stepped down out of the painting and looked around himself as the glowing lights that surrounded him faded and disappeared. Where he stood on the wall, was no empty.

“I have arrived,” said the young man, looking at his hands, and then turning to face the painting. “Do you hear me Father?” the man shouted to the air. “I, Anicetus, have arrived on Earth to bring you home!”

Turning on his heel, Anicetus strode out of the alley and directly into the rush of oncoming traffic. Horns blasted, cars swerved, and before he could react, the screeching of tires brought a taxi crashing to halt against his unmoving thighs.

“What manner of conveyance is this?” he asked, looking down at the damage that the impact had caused to the vehicle.

“What the…” yelled the man who was driving the cab. “It’s a cab, ya big fool, and you’re blocking the traffic.”

The man got out of his car, not bothering to turn down the radio which was blaring ‘I’m Alive’ by ELO. When he say the damage that had been done, he slapped his head with his hand and turned on Anicetus.

“Who’s going to pay for this?”

Anicetus didn’t bother to answer the man, but turned away from him and walked down the street, oblivious to the traffic and the havoc he was causing. He could see that further down the street a crowd was gathering, and that would be the first place to start looking for his missing father, the god of Strength, Herakles.

The crowd parted slightly as he approached them, but once again the young god ignored the open gapes and muttered whispers at his appearance. It was understandable that a mortal would act in such an overwhelmed manner at the appearance of one of the Olympians. What had attracted Anictus’ attention was a large edifice that the crowd had gathered before – an edifice befitting of Olympus herself. Surely, if his father was anywhere, this would be the place he would be.

Max leaves his business meeting, still trying to hide his excitement on his way back to his office.

"I hope I didn't seem preoccupied," he thinks to himself as he walks back to his office

"I'm not sure that went as well as it could have. This could be bad...if I don't close the deal on that land, I'll have to put the factory elsewhere, and I already put so much work into lining up local support....Bah, I'll deal with it later. This is important, too...and way more fun."

He tells his secretary "I'm going to go watch AJ at the big reveal. I'll be back when I'll be back."

Closing the door behind him, he goes to his private elevator and goes down to his parking lot, then he turns the setting on his ring a number of times, entering the code to activate his suit. The American Justice battlesuit erupts from the ring's extradimentional interior, first covering his hand, then unfolding its way down his arm and over his entire body, then merging and solidifying in a jolt of blue energy.

Opening a secret door, he enters an old, unused, subway tunnel, and rockets off with his gravitic generators a safe distance through available underground routes.

"This should be interesting...", he thinks. "I never knew any of these guys, but I owe them a lot. Inspiration is a rare thing."

American Justice bursts out of a manhole high into the air, flying over the city and making a grand entrance at Ultra Hall, landing in a swirl of air.

He waves to the crowd, and says, aparently to the computer finally opening Ultra Hall "So what do you have for us, my robot brother? What secrets will you finally reveal?"

Ultra Hall wasn't the only location with a countdown timer. Across town the young man who would take up the mantle US Avenger made a final check, he had four hours to go until the Hall opened. The costume was easy to make, an identical match to the one he remembered so well. However he didn't have access to the Kevlex material that the first US Avenger had, so the concealed armored vest he strapped to his chest would have to pass, contoured to his body it added just a little more bulk that would easily pass off as the muscle of a super-soldier. The shield was a problem, a steel copy of the famous US Avenger purchased online and shipped to a drop location. While he had the skills to use the real thing, he knew he couldn't count as much on this one as much HIS shield.
Pulling on his mask the new US Avenger made a last ready check, while he's had experience in 'the life' its a distant, painful memory for him. This time he wanted to make sure he does it right. The throwing stars were the authentic ones, taken from fights that US Avenger had been at and secreted away for years. Their presence gave him a little more confidence, he slipped out of the abandoned building he was using to store the equipment and sped across town on a salvaged motorcycle taken from a small gang fight he broke up the night before. Three hours to go he mentally reminded himself, the crowd wouldn't be as thick now. Easily driving the motorcycle with all the skill of "Evel" Knievel himself, US Avenger crossed town. A block away from Ultra Hall he ditched the bike in an alley and walked boldly across towards the Hall, shield strapped on his right arm.

James stood another face in the crowd, waiting for Ultra Hall to re-open.
This would've been against his mother's wishes. She sent him into hiding to live abroad with people she trusted. Nightlynx had aquired many enemies during the Cold War and would like nothing better to gain some sort of vengeance through her family.

But James had done more then see the world growing up. He trained, learned, and grew strong. Not only did he inherit the raw athleticism of his father, but the ruthless cunning of his mother. He was no longer the wide eyed child that needed to be hidden. Besides he NEEDED to see what was behind that door. His normally ice-cold Russian blood ran hot with anticipation.

This hadn't made James stupid however. He had come prepared, not only for old enemies, but new ones as well. As his eyes narrowed as the seconds ticked away, he gripped his collapsable bow white-knuckle tight.

((OOC: Initiative: 9 = 10 - 1))

Distraught by the disappearance of Sabrina (aka Gypsy Rose) and the possible nanite cure Wayne Bruce was working on, Bigley fled the country and entered self-imposed exile, taking residence in the jungles of Columbia. There he befriended the indigenous jungle tribes, who treated him as a god. Like so many years ago, he protected the tribes and nature, defending them both from logging corporations and murderous rebels and drug traffickers.
Over the past few years, the situation in the jungle has calmed down to the point where Sequoia divides his time between Columbia in the winter and the Yukon Territory, CN in the summer. It is during this yearly migration that Sequoia hears of the time lock to the Ultra Hall will soon countdown to zero. Hoping to find clues to Sabrina's disappearance and the cure Wayne Bruce was working on, Sequoia makes his way to the Ultra Hall...

Three months later...

"It is time," he can hear the trees telling him. He knows that there is a crowd gathered because the plants have told him so. Passed from grass to potted plant to flower to weed to tree, the message rings clearly to him: the Ultra Hall will soon open its doors. His questions may finally get answered.
Opening his eyes and standing up, he stretches. For two long months he has hidden in the middle of Liberty Park, waiting for this day. Considered a monster by many, Bigley was forced into hiding here, knowing that if he revealed himself, the panic could cause too much destruction on its own. So far, the only people he has encountered have been the few homeless that live in the woods and the occasional mugger. So far, little has come of it, but Bigley knows better.
Cautiously, he treads through the park, watching for joggers and other people that might spot him, until eventually he reaches the street. The tranquility of the park gives way to the noise of the city. Stumbling as he steps over the park wall, he walks into a light pole, bending it. As he steps back, he glances from bystander to bystander, seeing the fear and surprise in their faces. Oh no. It's all starting again, he thinks. Sulking, he runs from the scene, clumsily dodging traffic as he heads up town towards the Ultra Hall.
As the Hall came within about 500 ft, he squeezed his way into a nearby alley, ducking his head under fire escapes and clotheslines. Positioning himself so that he could see, he watched the scene from the shadows, waiting for whatever might emerge from the Hall.
