The White Wood Bison was found in the woods of the Saskatchewan by people of the Lucky Man Cree Nation, in 1974. He was small, and undernourished. The Cree of Lucky Man fed him, and taught him, for they believed that he represented a hope for the future…one related to them by the Lakota some time ago…the prophecy of the White Buffalo Woman. He grew rapidly indeed, becoming the 8 foot tall (even when hunched over) 2200 lb white furred minotaur he is today, in less than six weeks. He then returned to the forest, saying, “As you have done for me, so will I do for you. I will nourish and protect you, so that you may grow.”

Last year, he helped Thunderbird and Kid Flare deal with the threat of the Wendigo Plague, an event that endangered humans and wildlife in both the Saskatchewan and the Dakotas. It was then that he learned to speak Lakota.

He travels all over Canada, helping people of the Cree nation especially…but he will not ignore a living thing in need. He has refused membership in any group, as of this time.

His Contacts are forest creatures and spirits who keep him informed, as are his Connections. He uses the Ritualist feat to contact them, and ask for help.

Now imagine that humanoid, and white furred. The Wood Bison is the largest animal in North America, even bigger than the Plains Bison.

Just so people know, my output will be slowing down for a while, as my LARP and tabletop games have recently become...very busy and complicated, and are requiring more time.

I think that they're as good a series of builds as I've come to expect from your stable Jack and that I'm very sorry you're slowing down.

Still, even you can only ingest so many gallons of coffee before collapsing. You're not Kreuzritter you know. :wink:

Henri was a low level tech at the Chalk River nuclear power plant in 1952.
NRX Reactor at Chalk River, Canada
The events of December 12, 1952 at this experimental heavy water-moderated nuclear reactor make a wild tale of the type of common-mode failures which make everyone nervous about nuclear reactors. First, four valves which kept air pressure from raising the control rods were opened in error by an operator. The supervisor noted warning lights and rushed to the basement to close the valves. Once he had closed them, he assumed that the rods had dropped back, but they hadn't dropped fully - they had dropped only far enough to shut off the warning lights.
The supervisor, realizing that the reaction was still on, called the control room to order the operator to push buttons 4 and 3 to stop the reactor, but mistakenly said 4 and 1! The operator rushed off to do it before he could correct his mistake. Button 1 raised 4 banks of control rods, causing the reaction rate to double every 2 seconds. This buildup was noted after about 20 seconds and the reactor was scrammed. Because of the air pressure problem, the control rods didn't go all the way down. After about 44 seconds, the plant physicist dumped the heavy water to kill the moderation and stop the reaction. This dumped tons of radioactive water into the basement. About 3 minutes later, the 4 ton lid blew off the reactor, spurting radioactive water and setting off alarms warning of lethal radiation levels. The building was evacuated. This incident included a hydrogen-oxygen explosion and the melting of some uranium fuel, yet the release was contained. It's just that the days when everything goes wrong at the nuclear plant are pretty scary.

Henri was actually in the basement when the radioactive water flodded in, working on a faulty valve. He was soaked in in. Drowned by it,, in fact. An Unprecedented nuclear reaction caused 30% of his boy mass to convert to some form of biological Thorium…a radioactive mineral sometimes used in breeder reactors…it breaks down into an isotope of uranium. Scientists postulate that Henri may have been subject to some exotic fusion process impelled by his traumatic metahuman activation. Ever since, he has been the premier Francophone hero in Canada. He’s known for phenomenal power…not subtlety or caution.

He wears a brilliant silver bodysuit with the blue fleur de lis on his right pectoral, and the red Canadian maple leaf on his left shoulder. The areas around his wrists and ankles are bulked up with vents, perhaps for his radiation to emit. His face is covered by a lightly tinted faceplate, attached to what is, effectively, a chromed motorcycle helmet.

He does not have a secret identity. He publicly campaigns for Quebecois independance.

I've not read through your thread recently, but I do remembering that I rather liked all your characters. Certainly your characters from my home and native land are quite good. I quite like how you manage to avoid the obvious stereotypes when making national characters. I'm going to make the time to read this thread over as soon as I get the chance.

White Wood Bison is my current favorite of the lot. In the last night or two I watched a show on Wood Bison National park. They are some rather impressive animals.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of things for pay.

Thank you, Jalinth. I just try to do good research before building characters. I also try to treat cultural matters and history with respect and perspective...not just use them as stereotypes.

I really like this world you've created. I've always been interested in mythological heroes and like how you've reimagined many of them here. Haven't read through all of them yet, but I'm getting there. Cuchulainn is my favorite so far. (I've always liked the celt and norse heroes best.)

Thanks. Myth and magic are, indeed, the primary sources for the World That Needs Heroes.

the Celts and the Norse are some of my favs as well...not entirely surprising as I'm of Scots, Irish and Amerindian descent.

Bill MacKenzie used to be a thug. He was muscle for an organized crime group based in Toronto. Which one he worked for, well, that’s classified. Because now Bill works for the government. He not only turned Crown Witness on his old organization, but he’s been recruited into the Canadian national super team.

Bill has had his powers for about a year…he gained them during a knock down, drag out fight between White Wood Bison, Thorium, an unnamed dark mage, and the evil creature known as the Wendigo. Bill changed sides halfway through, to prevent the Wendigo frome ating a child. He was caught in a spell cast by the unnamed mage…which interacted with the Wendigo and his metahuman gene, and made him what he is today.

Cutter is called so because he can vibrate his hands fast enough to cut through almost anything, and because he ‘cuts’ along the ground so very quickly. His measured top speed is around 2000 mph…he has never really pushed his speed to its limit. A vibratory forcefield protects him at almost all times, and his flesh is immune to the side effects of his powers and their effects upon the environment. Prior to gaining powers, he was a trained martial artist and legbreaker, so he was already quite dangerous.

Cutter’s secret ID is actually very carefully protected, due to his status as a protected Crown Witness. His ‘combat uniform’ is, unlike many speedsters, not formfitting, as his forcefield prevents friction burns or slowdown. He wears
a heavy lined black London Fog trenchcoat over a grey turtleneck and slacks. His one concession to speedster chic is wearing red Converse running shoes…he’s a Doctor Who fan. His face is covered by a black full face hood mask with integral one way glass eye pieces (mirrored). He wears a black leather fedora to top it all, so he’s a very stylish and unusual appearing speedster.

He’s a little over six feet, lanky and tough, with greying red hair, tanned skin, and brown eyes. He’s mixed blood Scots and as the Canadians call them , First Nations. In his case, it’s Ojibwa.
