Nice stuff as always, and those magical characters you stated earlier. I really like those. Speaking of which, i can't wait to get my hands on the Magic Book. *prays to Amazon and UPS to hurry it up*

Of all your characters, Osmosis and Silverback are my favorites.

Osmosis because of the chilling backstory, and Silverback because of the amazing redemption angle.

Rastafarian and his team Jamaica also rock.

#163: Tapion

Post by Michuru81 » Wed Jul 02, 2008 3:17 pm

TAPION (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Tapion Mallory
Height / Weight: 6’ / 138 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Red / Green
Place of Birth: Heraklion, Crete (April 23, 1987)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #41

Biography: Tapion Mallory was the first son born to two of Crete’s more famous doctors; his father was a surgeon and his mother’s Nephilim abilities allowed her to alter a person’s life functions.

When he was seven, Tapion began to display curious talents. The Aurelius arrived and concluded that while Tapion’s little brother Taegan had manifested Neo-Sapien abilities born of his mother’s powers, Tapion was an Esper… and a considerably powerful one.

Taegan was eventually recruited to the New Vindicators Academy of Europe and Tapion continued to hone his psionic powers on his own. Eventually, Taegan was forced to return home, learning of a serial killer targeting his mother’s patients. Upon his arrival, the boy’s mother was dead and their father was quickly joining her.

Tapion displayed the totality of his powers then, copying their father’s eidetic memory and his medical knowledge and then planting it into the brother’s heads.

NEW VINDICATORS: Et Spe – Tapion was amongst the heroes drafted by Drew Jenkins into fighting Apocatastasis. Alone he easily defeated Murmur before continuing on and encountering Stockholm. He saved the young woman from Gremory and the two set off through the city together.

Much like how Wilt had become infatuated with Renewal upon realizing he could safely touch her, Tapion’s abilities as an Esper protected him from Stockholm’s powers and feelings for the Grecian budded.

#164: Phenomena

Post by Michuru81 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 7:12 pm

PHENOMENA (Power Level 12)

Real Name: Scarlet Clementine
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 120 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Auburn / Green
Place of Birth: Atlanta, Georgia (October 4, 1964 – November 10, 2007)
First Appearance: Vindicators #575

Biography: Retired Colonel James Clementine was never denied the things he wanted in life. His Georgian peach plantation more than supplied his day-to-day financial needs- he only joined the army to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors- the Clementine family tree was a long line of retired service men made comfortable by the land their family had lived on for over a century.

A man of military, monetary and social status there was little James Clementine had want of… until he saw her.

The girl only passed through his field of vision for a second before vanishing into the crowded street but it was enough; Clementine was enchanted with her beauty and he began pouring his funds into finding her. His searches yielded nothing and only helped to fuel his desire for the woman.

A drunk heard of the colonel’s hunt and offered to sell her name and location for a hefty price. The colonel never thought twice about writing the check- perhaps because his bank account could afford more than the man could have dreamt… or perhaps because he was so infatuated with this young woman. “The woman you’re looking for is a sixteen-year-old girl named Desiree Sifsdotir. You’ll find her in town at the brothel.”

It disturbed the colonel that the woman he had fallen for was a prostitute… and still a child by most standards. Still, he had devoted himself and all he had to finding her and making her his. He wouldn’t be fazed by such a revelation. Instead he marched in and paid for an hour of her time- insisting on only talking with the girl. She told him of how she had never known her real parents: she had been abandoned not long after being born. He made her a promise to love her forever and let her never want for anything… should she only love him forever and ever.

The two had a fairytale wedding assembled in a staggering twelve hours and it wasn’t many months after that Desiree was pregnant with the colonel’s first child.

When Scarlet Clementine was born, she had inherited her mother’s looks and her abilities. She had also inherited her mother’s curse… the colonel died months before Scarlet came into this world and her mother died giving birth.

It left Scarlet Clementine the sole heir of the Clementine Estate however…

It was many years later when Clementine discovered her Neo-Sapien abilities and not many years later that they drew the attention of Doctor S. Orpheus White- the newly appointed Aurelius. He managed to recruit her into his new team of Vindicators and over time a relationship beyond teammates blossomed. The two married and not long after that came their sole child Atlanta Jane White. Despite the prize he had in his wife and daughter, the Aurelius was more concerned with the Vindicators and with the preservation of the magical world. Despite how much Scarlet wanted to settle down and be a family… her husband was engulfed in his work.

The two divorced and Scarlet returned home to Georgia with her daughter. Scarlet began to loathe the world in which she lived in… in which her powers kept her from a normal life. When Atlanta displayed the same powers she sent the young girl off to boarding school in an attempt to prevent her from falling into the traps of a super-hero lifestyle.

Ironically, Scarlet herself had fallen into that trap once more… now a part of the Vindicators Elite.

ILLUMINATI: Philanthropic Vengeance – Only a little more than a year after being back in action, the Vindicators found themselves facing the Sixth Reich alongside the Illuminati. Along with Blacksmith, the Detective and the Hound, Phenomena was regressed to a child and met a horrible end at the villains’ hands.

Place of Birth: Staten Island, New York (August 14, 1988)

Ultimately, in his confrontation with Portal, Vincent opted to rebel against Doctor Meinstein and began life again as a vigilante, fighting to protect New York City as the Patriot.

#166: Fog

Post by Michuru81 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 8:06 pm

FOG (Power Level 1)

Real Name: Cloud Goodman
Height / Weight: 5’6” / 128 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Brown / Green
Place of Birth: San Francisco, California (April 23, 1989)
First Appearance: Vindicators #696

Biography: Cassandra and Cloud Goodman are the twin children born to the former Vindicator known as Miss Mist. At an early age Cassandra inherited her father’s Neo-Sapien abilities in turning her body to sand. Cloud, on the other hand, followed in his mother’s footsteps and was able to become a vaporous mist.

It was just one more rift between Cloud and Coach Crag. The boy was short and scrawny and had no interest in sports. The two had nothing in common and their relationship suffered as a result.

Still, Patrick and Victoria Goodman realized that their children’s powers would deny them a healthy, normal life. They joined the New Vindicators Academy as teachers and registered the twins.

As Cassandra made friends, Cloud saw his twin pull away from him. He began to feel more isolated and alone before eventually befriending Quinton Jorgenson, a door which opened to David Meinstein and Ryan Mueller.

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas – During his senior year, Cloud felt more isolated as his friends began to withdraw. Unbeknownst to Cloud, Quinton was trying to help his father (really his step-mother) combat the Affiliation from the inside, David had assumed the identity of the armored vigilante Portal and Ryan was plotting the deaths of all Katie Merrick’s ex-boyfriends.

To make matters worse, Cassandra began dating one of the new students: Adonis Skraag. Convinced that Adonis had enchanted her with his powers, Cloud attacked Adonis in public.

His only solace became Donna-Anne Manther; the two began dating into their senior year and she seemed to be genuinely helping him get over his animosity towards Adonis.

Sadly, as Cloud was coming home from David’s house one night, he happened upon Chimera and Quinton, faking his friend’s death. Unwilling to leave a witness, Chimera beat Cloud and attempted to incinerate his body…

#167: Phase

Post by Michuru81 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 9:46 pm

PHASE (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Cloud Goodman
Height / Weight: 5’8” / 152 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Brown / Green
Place of Birth: San Francisco, California (April 23, 1989)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #1

Biography: Cloud Goodman witnessed Chimera’s attempt to fake Quinton Jorgenson’s death; Chimera was determined not to have any witness and… it needed a new identity to assume. Chimera attempted to murder the young man, savagely beating him and then lighting his body ablaze before pushing it out onto the East River.

The New Vindicators Academy of America believed it had been Quint who had died on that pyre… never suspecting that Cloud Goodman, disguised with a Morph Buckle, was the true victim.

For months Chimera adopted Cloud’s persona. It continued to date Donna-Anne Manther and avoided Wreck Room exercises. Unbeknownst to even his imposter, Cloud Goodman’s body was recovered by the fledgling Operation: Black Box. After his resuscitation he became their first agent…

Conditioned mentally and physical, the organization managed to cow Cloud with fire, which he had developed a deathly fear of. During this period, his powers evolved: he was no longer limited to taking a vaporous form but could transition into the other two phases of water: liquid and solid. Additionally, his biological father’s Neo-Sapien powers manifested, exposing a talent for morphing his body to assume any appearance and doubling his use to the organization.

NEW VINDICATORS: Absit Omen – While following Emmanuel Nikolaos, waiting for his opportunity to assassinate the evangelist, Phase stumbled upon the girls of the New Vindicators squadrons in battle with former thugs of the Wisent. At the sound of sirens, the girls fled, as did his target.

Phase next appeared alongside Doctor Cheryl Colbenson at the end of their raid on his former school. Ordered to assume the identity of one of the captured students, Cloud journeyed to Peoria and was admitted to the concentration camp…

NEW VINDICATORS: Para Bellum – Cloud assumed the identity of Vincent Haynes, realizing Vincent’s Neo-Sapien power was the easiest to fake as nothing visual occurred when he used his abilities. Branded with the number 00160, Cloud began moving with a single purpose: Doctor Colbenson suspected Silverback was suspicious of her activities and that his hiring Michuru Bradshaw and Chienne Bedford were indicative of this; she wanted to know how much about their operation the headmaster knew and what measures he was taking to combat them.

Cloud’s plan was not functioning well though as his half-brother Norman Goodman recognized him, despite the mask he now wore. Also hiding masquerading inside the facility was one of the Fallen: Asmodeus. The demon struck up a deal with Cloud and erased Norman’s memories of the younger sibling in exchange for services to be rendered at a later date.

It was a deal he did not need to make as a small band of students from the New Vindicators Academy made their way into the concentration camp. Before Cloud could do anything to stop them, every Neo-Sapien in the facility was gone with the exception of him, forcing him to return to Doctor Colbenson in failure…

Hey, question about the Hellfire beast. Its listed as a drawback, so I take it that your players dont have to spend points on the hellfire beast. I have a player that wants to do something like that with his PC (he wanted to play godzilla so we came up with a lizard-man mutant thing) when he gets super pissed off he will lose it and morph into a giant lizard (I think he wanted huge size). I was just curious how you did your hellfire beasts so I might get an idea for what to do with my PC.

Thanks

P.S. My condolences about your dog Mich.

Many apologies for the lateness in replying - I only just noticed this. :(

No, my players don't have to spend points for the privelage of being able to transform into a hellfire beast. It's a drawback in that... the transformation takes control out of their hands. When a Nephilim transforms they've lost the perpetual struggle between their human and infernal natures. The hellfire consumes them and, ultimately, they become a creature who doesn't distinguish between friend or foe. They only seek to destroy everything in sight.

When one of the PCs begins to transform the player loses all control over the character and the GM begins to decide who the monster starts to attack (generally, the beast goes for other Nephilim first, knowing the threat they pose to it). Maybe NPCs shouldn't qualify for such a drawback and maybe it's better suited as a complication more than anything but... eh, I'd monkeyed too much with the Nephilim's drawbacks and there are too many other people invested in this game (not just my campaign but those somewhat based on it) to keep tweeking it little by little...

For you, you might consider making a separate build of the hero and the Godzilla. Assuming he has less-than-normal mental faculties in the huge honkin' lizard state, you could steal points from his Int, Wis, and Cha; skills and feats; saves... all to make a second build built on the same points. One is for the player and one is for you to screw over the party when said player loses his religion.

#168: Thuggy Thuggerton [PC]

Post by Michuru81 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 8:40 pm

Michuru81 wrote:A recent chapter in the narrative sparked a request for one character in particular. Always aiming to please, I sat down with the mind behind such a character and had a background story dictated to me...

Courtesy of the ATT's Desero, I give you Thuggy Thuggerton...
THUGGY THUGGERTON (Power Level 6)

Real Name: James Todd Smith
Height / Weight: 6’2” / 200 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Black (bald) / Brown
Place of Birth: San Diego, California (January 14, 1975)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #16

Biography: “Hey, Thuggy?”

“Yeah, Trigga?”

“Lessay that Mike Wallace guy was gunna do his Biography show on the A&E about you? How would your biography start?”

“Well, my origin story would begin with ‘Daddy ran off.’”

“That’s not a happy story, Thuggy.”

“Do you ever watch A&E Biography? They never start off with a happy story! Ain’t nobody wanna hear no happy story!”

“My story’d be happy!”

“You’re story’d be ‘once upon a time, you was born and walked backwards into seven doorknobs. Then you shot some people.’ The end. We ain’t talkin’ ‘bout your story though! Mike Wallace is interviewin’ me!”

“Mike Wallace ain’t gonna talk to you!”

“He is interviewizin’ me!”

“No he ain’t!”

“Trigga, you trippin’! You best watch yourself before I drop a ton of bricks on you like that one guy I killidated.”

“What guy you killidated?”

“Oh, that’s right. I ain’t ever told you about that. See, when I first joined up with my first gang, I was a mean mo-fo. I wanted to call myself ‘C. K.’, ‘cause I was bad like Calvin Klein. But they was not idolizin’ my fashion sense and they thought they’d be funny and call me ‘Thuggy Thug’ like that white rapper ‘Marky Mark’.”

“I hear he’s makin’ movies now, Thuggy.”

“Ju catch him in Boogie Nights? Man’s got some meat between his legs. But I digressify. I didn’t take too kindly to them callin’ me Thuggy Thug. That was demoralizin’ my personage. So I convinced them that there was a huge vault full of money at this construction sight. And I got the one who was pickin’ on me, who happened to be the locksmith of the group, to go into the office to get it.

“Well, it just so happens there was a load of bricks, hangin’ above it from a hook crane that accidentally fell on the office. I definitely made it clear them all who was there that if they didn’t stop callin’ me Thuggy Thug that they was gunna get some of the same: they was gunna get a ton of bricks droppedated on their heads.

“And then I got an apostrophe! They’s can call me ‘Ton’, you know, as a constantive reminder. Well, they couldn’t remember one thing from the next day to day and they’d keep callin’ me Thuggy Thug and I’d give ‘em this crazy look and they’d start to stammer and be all like, ‘er… ton’.

“In their stammerage, I felt impotent and powerful and I liked that feeling so I told them, ‘y’all know what? Y’all just call me Thuggy Thuggerton’. And that done stuck to now, Trigga!”

“That’s a great story, Thuggy!”

“I ain't done! You made me lose my whole train of thought. Fine though, since you is lookin’ for me to get to the intermission, I’ll cut to the Cliff Notes: momma died overdosin’ on somethin’ she found in my room; Lavoma, my youngest brother, got takin’ by the great State of California; Leroy ran away to Los Angeles and his gang initiation was fatal; Tinesha, my sister, she became my third hoe!”

“She a good hoe too, Thuggy. I is sweet on your sister. Maybe one day we could step-brothers?”

Thuggy fixed his associate with a blank stare.

“What?” asked Trigger, sinking low into his seat. “I said ‘maybe’…”

“Anyway,” Thuggy said, ignoring all his cohort had dropped on him, “I started to make a name for myself back in San Diego but unfortunately I had an altercation with the long arm of the law. Trigga? Did you know it’s a criminal offense to killidate four cops in cold blood?”

“I did not know that.”

“Well, it is… at least in San Diego. And that is what heavily motivated me to move myself to the Big Apple; Frank Sinatra’s house. I love me some old blue eyes.”

“I did like that one movie of his you showed me. What was it called, Thuggy?”

“You mean ‘The House I Live In’? Trigga, that movie won the Academy Award! It was groundbreaking in 1945, given that it touched on topics such as tolerance and racial equality.”

“You sure are smart, Thuggy.”

Thuggy nodded. “Well, that’s why I came out here and that’s when I met you.”

“And then we started 137th Street.”

“And then we met the boss.”

“Yeah. He sent that demon boy and the others to come and make us all work for him. If we’d known how good the boss was gunna be to us, he never woulda had to send them, would he? He coulda just asked.” Thuggy sighed happily as he thought on the life he had made for himself. “Anyway… that’s what I’d tell that Mike Wallace guy.”

“You know somethin’, Thuggy?”

“What Trigger?”

“I think your story turned out happy.”

“I think so too,” said Thuggy as he leaned back in his chair, wearing a satisfied smile.

I let them duke it out with their own characters, sitting out of the dice chucking and acting only as a rules lawyer for the battle. Some of my players crumbled such a card up and never thought about it after that point. Three actually gave their thugs names.

Two gave them personalities.

They began to RP their henchmen, even staying in character when our sessions came to a close. Those two minions became something more... they evolved into characters on their own rite. As time passed, my player were divided when I would allow the thugs to make a return: some cheered while others plotted my doom for allowing them to make a comeback.

Ultimately, I decided to do what any good GM should do and reward his players for roleplay. The fact is... when they assume the roles of Thuggy Thuggerton and Trigger Happy, everyone has fun. They spice up a session and so, to reward their creativity and commitment, the minions became their own characters. Now street level, they don't go down in a punch (they may consider the Wisent to be their boss, but they're no longer his minions) and can be much more of a problem for the PCs.

And yes, Trigger Happy will come along... eventually.

#169: Adrammelech

Post by Michuru81 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 9:03 pm

ADRAMMELECH (Power Level 12)

Real Name: Adrammelech
Height / Weight: 7’ / 184 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Black / Blue (Glowing Blue)
Place of Birth: Akkad
First Appearance: New Vindicators #39

Biography: In the time before the Deluge, Adrammelech was amongst the more feared Nephilim who plagued the world. Able to avoid most attacks, he began to subjugate his kin beneath him. For years he evaded the capture of the Gibborim.

Eventually Apocatastasis met Adrammelech and asked him to join him in destroying the heroes of their age. Along with Dumah, Gog and Magog, the five attacked Atlantis directly, seeking to liberate the mass of Nephilim jailed within. While Apocatastasis moved to secure his army his underlings encountered the Gibborim and, one-by-one, died fighting them.

NEW VINDICATORS: Para Bellum – Hikari’s knowledge of the future became a weapon against Apocatastasis. He was a step ahead of the immortal monster, forcing the villain to take desperate actions. With the power of Emmanuel Nikolaos, Apocatastasis resurrected the Nephilim who had died on Atlantis, Adrammelech among them.

NEW VINDICATORS: Et Spe - The first opponent Adrammelech encountered was one of the Cabal, Huo Yuanjia. Displaying his abilities before the man, he easily ended the man’s life.
Spoilers wrote:Oddly, he next appeared on the hero’s side, saving Lodestone (Magnus Loder) and Chienne from Blanch Gareth. When pressed for answers Adrammelech said he only aided Apocatastasis because it benefited him.

Adrammelech has since made it obvious that he has his own agenda and openly plays both sides at his whim. Not long after saving the heroes he fought fight their friends: upon encountering Detective (Jack Olson), Lodestone (Jacob Loder), Stockholm, Taegan, Tapion and Wilt he did not hesitate to end Taegan’s life on the grounds that Taegan’s abilities could hinder his own plans for conquest.

Though the others fled from his power, Tapion remained, determined to fight him. It is yet unknown who was victorious in their battle.

I say those stats lie, Thuggy is has at least a 20 Int and Wis!!!!

And for my lizard PC with the transformation, I actually just let him take growth with the limit: uncontrollable. We worked it out that if he can justify changing (i.e. uncontrollable rage, "back agaisnt the wall" type situations, finding out he has a son but also at the same time the son has been genetically altered into half-man/half-snake and is now a mindless killing machine.....ect.). Then I just let him AP his current power with the limit: only in giant form, this way he can add extra's to it. I also let him change his caps around.

Hey Mich,

just droppin in to say hi ( and killidate a couple mofo's )

The build that really got my interest is addramelch though ( nephilim fanboy as I may be )
The fight between ad and cabal was so well written that you instantly know how bad of a sob addramelch really is. I wish I could turn back time, then I wouldn't have read the spoiler of one of my alltime favourites dying. (if anthropod dies as well I just might have to killidate someone)

Anwar lives and as for your other favorite's death... it's important to remember who his best friend is and what his best friend has recently begun to learn. Then keep in mind that said best friend's newfound powers and abilities have a few unexplained qualities to them...

When one of your best friends has an unexplainable mastery over such a primal force... death is never the end. :) There is a reason why Adrammelech feels compelled to kill THAT particular character and save the two he chooses to save though. Meaning that by the time Adrammelech is the big baddie in need of an epic beating, certain once-slain characters may be extremely instrumental...

I have to shut up now, before I give away everything that's coming...
