Background:
The most famous Elder Priest of Taija on Darkon is arguably Braddock Lightmane. Born into a powerful noble family he joined the Holy Knights of Limberry at the age of sixteen and spent the next thirty years serving in military action all over the continent. In that time his aptitude for military tactics and overpowering strength made him a legend. The deed he is most famous for is the Crusade against the broken ones. When he was thirty five he was given command of the Holy Knights sent to Limberry in order to drive the Orcs out of the Southern part of the nation. When the Beleme commander was slain in battle Lightmane took command of the entire army and finished the crusade, slaying the Orcish war chief in single combat and claiming his sword, which Lightmane dubbed The Sword of Truth, as a trophy of his victory. Soon afterward Lightmane was placed in command of the Holy Knights, and several years after that he was given a seat on the Council of the Sun’s Path.
Lightmane publicly states that his success is a result of hard work and piety, but the truth is that he had the money, connections, and guile to play political games when it came time to do so. Many such political enemies assumed he was little better than a brute, but were blind sided by his keen intellect and ability to stir a crowd with a few choice words.
In the past several years Lightmane has been growing more and more aware of his advancing age. While his wife would like him to retire to Lightmane Keep outside of the city of Alba Braddock knows that his time to truly achieve is growing short. He’s no longer the warrior he once was, having been soundly beaten by an ambassador from the Eastern Reaches in a friendly spar. He hopes instead to make his mark politically. These hopes dimmed five years ago when the dying Voice of the Sun named a teenage girl as his successor. Had he not done so Braddock believed he could have convinced the rest of the Elder Priests to vote him as the Voice of the Sun. Braddock continues to perform his duties faithfully, but always keeps an eye open for a situation that will allow him to make the leap that will make him the most powerful man in Darkon. He doesn't do it maliciously, he simply believes he's better suited to lead the faithful than a girl, now barely twenty. The power such a position would give him certainly doesn't make it unattractive though.
