Lighthearted? Hardly. I mean, it's got a chicken punching a baby! Surely, that is the stuff of nightmares.

Bookworm

Postby MLChance » Sat Aug 02, 2008 5:20 pm

BOOKWORM
Quote: "Excellent...."
Power Level: 10
Concept: Uber-intelligent worm
Occupation: Inventor
Real Name: Zodraz
Legal Status: Exiled citizen of Dimension 118 with a criminal record
Identity: Not generally known to the public on Earth
Place of Birth: Lorgian Forest, Dimension 118
Marital Status: Single
Living Relatives: None
Length: 2 in.
Weight: about 1 oz.
Eyes: Greenish-black
Hair: None

Notes: Okay, I'm not quite sure why I did this. Bookworm isn't much a threat as far as villains go. He has no effective attacks. A kid with a rolled up newspaper could defeat him with a good thwack. (Of course, Bookworm's got a pretty good Defense score, so the kid probably couldn't hit him, but that's beside the point.) So, then, what can Bookworm do?

Well, he can Transmit himself from book to book (or similar written medium such as a magazine) with great accuracy. He can read a book or similar written material simply by being in the general vicinity of said material, effectively absorbing the information at an extremely high rate of speed. Since Bookworm as Eidetic Memory, he is a veritable library of data. To further reinforce the idea that Bookworm knows a whole lot about a whole lot, he has a 2 rank Variable structure limited to acquiring Int-based skills. With a pool of 10 power points, Bookworm can aquire 40 additional ranks of Int-based skills. With his very high superhuman intelligence, scientific skills, and Inventor feat, Bookworm could work as a technologist in support of some criminal enterprise.

STR 1 (-5); DEX 12 (+1); CON 10 (+0); INT 40 (+15); WIS 22 (+6); CHA 16 (+3)

TOU -5; FORT +4; REF +4; WILL +10; INIT +1; KNOCKBACK -10

MELEE +15; RANGE +15; GRAPPLE -25; DAMAGE -5 unarmed; DEFENSE +15

Skills (Ranks): Computers +20 (5), Craft (chemical) +27 (12), Craft (mechanical) +27 (12), Disable Device +21 (6), Knowledge (life sciences) +21 (6), Knowledge (physical sciences) +21 (6), Knowledge (technology) +23 (8), Search +23 (8), Stealth +26 (5)

Feats: Benefit (Very Well Read: Use INT-check for Well-Informed), Eidetic Memory, Improvised Tools, Inventor, Well-Informed

Powers:
* Feature 1 (Effect: Touch-Reading; Extra: Shapeable Area [+1]; Power Feat: Progression 5 [25 5-foot cubes]) with Quickness 9 (Extra: Linked [+0]; Flaw: Reading Books Only [-2]); Alternate Power: Variable 2 (Flaw: Int-based Skills Only [-1])
* Shrinking 20 (Size: Miniscule; Effects: -20 STR, -5 TOU, +12 ATK/DEF, -20 grapple, +20 Stealth, -10 Intimidate, Space 3 in., Reach 0 in., carrying capacity x1/16; Power Feat: Innate; Extra: Normal Movement [+1]; Flaw: Permanent [+0])
* Transmit 5 (Medium: Books; Extra: Accurate [+1])

Attack/Damage Tradeoff: +5/-5
Defense/Toughness Tradeoff: +5/-5

Abilities 50 + Skills 17 (68 ranks) + Feats 5 + Powers 62+ Combat 12 + Saves 14 = 160

He needs a minion.

One who sings "Inchworm, Inchworm, rolly polly Inchworm..."

And can probably carry a library on one shoulder.

I lubs him, yes I does.

crazy little concept, but he could be ridiculously scary.

What if he came in contact to a magical tome.
Has he read The Art of War? That alone could make him a strategic genius, on par (or exceeding) people like Lex Luther.

Sure, he can easily be a joke character- but he could also be the basis for one of the most infamous, bizarre badguys ever!

Danny Kaye as an evil minion?

Superdad wrote:crazy little concept, but he could be ridiculously scary.

Quite so. I tweaked his powers a little bit, adding a small Variable structure as an AP of his "touch reading" ability. This simulates Bookworm's ability to know a whole bunch about pretty much any given topic.

Mister Mind was one of my inspirations for Bookworm. I love Captain Marvel and his stable of unusual villains and supporting characters.

Sweet and innocent as a Danny Kaye character (with the same wonderful singing voice) but something that Inchworm would use to roll over the characters.

(BTW - that was beautiful!)

Lady Peony

Postby MLChance » Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:43 am

Image

LADY PEONY
Quote: "You will bow before me...even if I have to break your legs to make you do it."
Power Level: 15
Concept: Botanical martial artist
Occupation: Ninja cult leader
Real Name: Mu Dan
Legal Status: Exiled native of Ti'en
Identity: Public, but not generally known to be from another dimension
Place of Birth: City of Blossoms, Imperial Province, Ti'en
Marital Status: Single
Living Relatives: Lady Peony has a large, complicated extended family still in Ti'en.
Length: 5 ft. 3 in.
Weight: 100 lb.
Eyes: White
Hair: Green

Notes: What happens when an alien noble woman overreaches in an effort to advance herself up the Imperial ladder of privilege and power and then gets exiled? You end up with a powerful martial artist taking over a ninja cult and then becoming a serious threat to life and civil society.

Lady Peony is dangerously versatile. She uses Plant Mimicry to reach her Toughness and damage caps (usually with Enhanced Strength 6 and Impervious Protection 6 [Flaw: Noticeable [-1]). She most often uses the other 18 points for various Immunities and Regeneration. Lady Peony is also fond of using her Luck to power stunt 4 points of combat feats off her Enhanced Attack. (Chokehold, Improved Grab, Prone Fighting, and Redirect are among her favorites.) In combat, Lady Peony likes to keep moving, using Defensive Attack and Power Attack to avoid harm and inflict greater damage.

STR 20 (+5); DEX 22 (+6); CON 18 (+4); INT 14 (+2); WIS 16 (+3); CHA 18 (+4)

TOU +4; FORT +12; REF +18; WILL +12; INIT +6; KNOCKBACK -2

MELEE +20; RANGE +20; GRAPPLE +25; DAMAGE +7 Strike (crit 19-20); DEFENSE +20

Skills (Ranks): Acrobatics +18 (12), Concentration +14 (11), Knowledge (arcana) +9 (7), Intimidate +13 (15), Language (English, Japanese, Mandarin) (3), Notice +12 (9), Sense Motive +12 (9), Stealth +20 (10), Survival 7 (0) (N.B. Lady Peony's native tongue is Ti'en.)

Feats: Defensive Attack, Evasion, Improved Critical (Strike), Improved Sunder, Improved Throw, Instant Up, Luck, Minions 8 (50 PL 3 ninjas), Move-By Action, Power Attack

Powers:
* Comprehend Animals 2
* Enhanced Attack 2 (Effect: Attack +2)
* Enhanced Saving Throws 9 (Effects: Fortitude +3, Reflex +3, Will +3)
* Enhanced Skills 8 (Effects: Stealth +4, Survival +4)
* Immunity 10 (earth attacks, wood attacks) (Flaw: Limited [-1])
* Plant Mimicry 6 (Flaw: Sustained [-1])
* Strike 2 (Power Feat: Mighty)
* Super-Movement 1 (Effect: Trackless; Flaw: Natural Surroundings Only [-1])
* Super-Senses 1 (Effect: Low-Light Vision)

Attack/Damage Tradeoff: +5/-5
Defense/Toughness Tradeoff: +5/-5

Abilities 48 + Skills 18 (72 ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 77 + Combat 76 + Saves 19 = 255

Notes about the Character wrote:Some of Lady Peony's abilities derive from her heritage as a denizen of Ti'en. All of these are included above, but they are not grouped to show which are which. This section, however, does.

Denizen of Ti'en Traits:
* Bamboo Spirit Folk Racial Traits: Comprehend Animals 2; Enhanced Stealth +4; Enhanced Survival +4; Immunity 10 (earth attacks, wood attacks) (Flaw: Limited [-1]); Super-Movement 1 (Effect: Trackless; Flaw: Natural Surroundings Only [-1]); Super-Senses 1 (Effect: Low-Light Vision)

* Basic Budoka Traits: Enhanced Attack +1; Enhanced Fortitude, Reflex, and Will Saves +3 each; Evasion; Strike 2 (Power Feat: Mighty)

Ghost-Face

Postby MLChance » Sun Aug 03, 2008 6:46 pm

Image

GHOST-FACE
Quote: "Bang. You're dead."
Power Level: 8
Concept: Ghostly hired gun
Occupation: Assassin
Real Name: Dante Murphy
Legal Status: Citizen of the United States wanted in several jurisdictions
Identity: Secret
Place of Birth: Chicago, Illinois
Marital Status: Married
Living Relatives: Sharon Murphy (wife), Charles Murphy (son), Nadine Murphy (daughter)
Height: 5 ft. 9 in.
Weight: 160 lb.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown

Notes: Dante Murphy lives a double life. On one hand, he is a pillar of the community, a family man, and a successful chemist. On the other hand, he is a hired gun who sells his skills to crime bosses who need problem people taken care of.

Ghost-Face isn't the kind of villain who squares off against a hero and goes toe-to-toe. He very much believes in a "one shot, one kill" modus operandi. Should this M.O. fail, Ghost-Face is much more likely to cut and run rather than stand and fight. By alternating between Insubstantial 4 and Total Visual Concealment/Accurate Teleport, Ghost-Face can lead a foe on a merry chase. More important than Ghost-Face's equipment, custom-made pistol, and super-powers are his patience and preparation before a hit.

STR 11 (+0); DEX 17 (+3); CON 11 (+0); INT 13 (+1); WIS 14 (+2); CHA 14 (+2)

TOU +7 (with Defensive Roll and undercover vest); FORT +5; REF +8; WILL +6; INIT +7; KNOCKBACK -3 (with Defensive Roll and undercover vest)

MELEE +5; RANGE +8; GRAPPLE +5; DAMAGE +0 unarmed, +1 knife (crit 19-20), +6 pistol (crit 19-20); DEFENSE +9

Skills (Ranks): Bluff +8 (6), Climb +4 (4), Computers +7 (6), Craft (chemical) +7 (6), Disguise +10 (8), Notice +7 (6), Search +5 (4), Stealth +11 (8)

Feats: Attack Focus 3 (ranged), Defensive Roll 4, Dodge Focus, Equipment 5, Improved Aim, Improved Critical (pistol), Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Sneak Attack

Equipment: undercover vest (+3 Subtle TOU [4 ep]), utility belt (bolos [1 ep], explosives [equivalent to dynamite, 15 ep], knife [1 ep], pepper spray [1 ep], sleep gas pellets [1 ep], stun pellets [1 ep], tear gas pellets [1 ep])

Powers:
* Device 3 (pistol) (Effect: Blast 6; Power Feats: Improved Range, Precise, Subtle)
* Insubstantial 4 (Vulnerable to: Cold, Mental, and Sensory Effects; Alternate Power: Total Visual Concealment 4 plus Accurate Teleport 4)

Attack/Damage Tradeoff: +0/-0
Defense/Toughness Tradeoff: +1/-1

Abilities 20 + Skills 12 (48 ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 30 + Combat 26 + Saves 15 = 120

Great builds, Chance!

Am I wrong in thinking Lady Peony was somewhat inspired by Marvel's Mantis?

Also, the picture for Ghost-Face rocks. Has a very Golden Age feel to it.

I love Lady Peony if only because I enjoyed my peony bush when I was a kid, admiring the ants crawling on the budded flowers topping the shrubbery.

Combine wonderful art and a great writeup and background of alien plant beings, and it's epic win.

Thanks. The picture for "Lady Peony" may have been inspired by Mantis, but I can't say since I didn't do the art. As for the character herself, Mantis never entered my mind, but perhaps she was lurking in my subconscious.

Haven't said anything recently but meant to add in some comments as you seem to be one of the only ones using Storn's art.

Turning my machine gunning wielding vampire into a woman who nullifies things was interesting. Nice take.
Cardinal Virtue is again an interesting take on the Cardinal. The original take is that he works for the Vatican but hardly anything is known about him and he has no diocese or country that he responsible for. The idea was inspired by the fact that there are lots of nasties with vulnerabilities to holy or good powers but very few people to wield them.

And for a quck turnaround turning the female armoured Kenya character into a villain so quickly is to be applauded.
The Blood Red King and Bone White Queen rebuilds Crimson King and Queen of Masks ones I reserve judgement on as the original Gestalt version (BRK) is one of the most horrifying characters ever bar none.
Dangerous when cute

Well, my goal of one character a week hasn't quite panned out. Fortunately, this is because I'm no longer unemployed. Yay. Unfortunately, the first few weeks on the job have been rough due to a lack of facilities and materials. Most of these issues are now resolved, so my fatigue level should drop at least a little.

In other news, I'm back to GMing a Friday night M&M game. The Justice League of Metazon is in action. I'll probably get around to putting the heroes, et cetera, in this thread, but not right away.

Finally: BUMP!
