-Yeah, when there's contests to see who the worst Avenger ever is, there's only one name you'll see on EVERYONE'S list, since people like Silverclaw and Miss Shi'Ar 90s Stereotype tend to be forgotten by all but the most intensive fanboys. And that name is Doctor Druid. Why? It could be his lame generic red tights and cape. The fact that he's an obvious Doctor Strange rip-off (despite actually being created first, by Kirby AND Ditko, as a generic adventurer in a monster story). His betrayal of the Avengers. Being twice taken over by evil villains. Being randomly killed off. Being the only fat male hero in the Marvel Universe. Any of these reasons are good enough. Hell, in one side-story, She-Hulk & Wasp agreed upon Druid as the "Worst Avenger Ever" and made fun of him for a full panel of mockery. Even his successor/son (sure, why not? Everyone else has mystery kids pop up out of nowhere) is just some forgotten loser named "Druid".

-Druid even sucks a fat one stats-wise. He doesn't have any decent damage spells at his finger-tips (requiring rituals or items he carries), good Attack or Defense, or any particularly useful skills outside of his Knowledge. And a Psychiatrist without Sense Motive, you ask? Hey, when you get taken over by COUNTLESS super-villains, despite being dedicated to fighting against them, you get jack in that category. His best tactics in battle involve creating illusions, making himself invisible, and hypnotizing people, though none of these are battle winners on their own. At best, he's a half-decent Team Player.

I was a little more forgiving on my Build of Dr. Druid, and i tried to include the latest changes to the character that were made. Thus why he is a bit over priced in the end.

-Quasar is kind of Mark Gruenwald's baby in the Marvel Universe, being one of his biggest opuses (the others being Squadron Supreme & his Captain America run). It was his chance to explore the universe, figure out what cosmics were all about (this was back when Marvel was REALLY into it's Ron Lim-drawn uber-starry guys), etc. Wendell Vaughn was a fairly generic everyman hero (in the Spider-Man vein), with Hal Jordan's power-set. He had a small but dedicated fanbase, and remains one of those beloved 'limbo' characters, killed or brought back whenever, just because he's not a major part of the Marvel U anymore.

-Quasar, like alot of Avengers, comes in over-pointed. I don't make him higher than a PL 10, because he spent the vast majority of his career as a 'plucky rookie', more powerful than he was smart or skilled. But those bands are hella-powerful, allowing for +10 Damage Area Effects, +12 Cosmic Blast, a Snare, Teleportation, Flight, etc., all while being protected with a Force Field. And you can probably AP off more. Using the Teleport as an AP off of his Cosmic Control may be cheating, considering it's faster than his Space Flight by a ways, but screw it; it's not that big a part of his power-set, and I don't feel like penalizing him needlessly for such a thing.

-Wonder Man. A guy created basically to stand against the Avengers as a Superman stand-in (basically) before dying in his first story, lest his power overwhelm the rest of the team. This one-shot story would lead to tons of stuff from his psycho brother, the Grim Reaper, turning up to haunt the Avengers, and eventually, YEARS later, they'd finally pull the trigger and revive him permanently (after tons of teases- making me think the guy was a fan-favourite). As an Avenger, Simon didn't do much until the West Coast split, where he was basically their "Thor", doing all the heavy lifting and somesuch. There was a bit of a friendly rivalry going on (where Thor would ALWAYS win, being somewhat of a cash cow to the guy with the black unitard with a "W" on it), which was negated when Simon got offed AGAIN in the first storyline of Force Works (one of the great failures of the 90s). He was brought back early on in the Busiek run on Avengers, as a big glowy guy, but that never stuck, and he's currenly back in his 1980s vest outfit.

-I still see Simon Fanboys all over the place in comic forums, showing he does have some kind of backing amongst the fanbase. However, his solo runs have been disappointing enough that he'll likely never get another ongoing until he gets a monster push, and those only happen to hot chicks with big boobies nowadays. So don't hold your breath for another Simon ongoing.

-Simon is a perfect PL 11 almost, as he falls a bit short on Defense Bonus. Since he tends to get hit A LOT, I think that's fairly accurate. He's basically a generic Flying Brick, having all the power of Hercules & Gilgamesh (my other "Big Guns" so far), but he can also fly and has some unique Immunities. He's not exactly versatile, though, so he'll have to stick to flying up and hitting stuff in battles, unless you're doing a "Team America" set-up and need "the greatest actor ever".

-This is, by the way, classic Wonder Man from the 90s, where he can fly under his own power (not needing a 1-rank Device). I think he's the same today, as well. "Glowy Perez Wonder Man" wasn't really much different in power, until they started giving him feats later that got erased (Growth, etc.).

I always liked Simon, mostly because he was a normal schlub. He's got claustrophobia from being in a casket for so long, and most of his romantic life got taken over by the Vision, whose mind was based on his (but I think Perez pushing Simon on Wanda SUCKED), and plus, he's got all this enormous power, but none of the respect.

That, and his friendship with the Beast was just so brilliantly handled, especially counting all the times he and Hank (McCoy) kept striking out on picking up girls because duty called.

Hi Jab, I'm sorry not posting the Euroforce's info so far, but the net is surprisingly lacking any substantial info (luckily the marvel universe site has a pretty good sum of the story), and my old comic books have ended in the basement a long time ago, so I have to go by my memory only.

Euroforce

Like Gemini, Euroforce spawned from the Euromind - the SHIELD european division - but, while Gemini was looking for a sort of SHIELD patronage, EF was already a SHIELD unit at the beginning of his story arc, or rather two units.

(the events are likely to take place during summer 1994, like those of Gemini but there is no official mention of any date)

Euroforce began as two teams, Eurolab and Task Force. Eurolab was a scientific recon group composed of Key (Geyr Kluge), former S.H.I.E.L.D. science officer and team leader; Danger, a mutant and second-in-command; cyborg Deep Sight (Jane Melville); telepath Nuage (Silvie Rouge); and Picaro (Antonio Rey), communications specialist. They were dedicated to studying paranormal phenomena for Euromind, a research agency and off-shoot of S.H.I.E.L.D. funded and controlled by the mysterious society known as SHAPE. Task Force was a special S.H.I.E.L.D. division loaned to Euromind for use in emergencies; its members included Dragonfly, armored soldier Blue Condor, Argento, armorskinned Tiger and weapons man Iceboy. Key viewed Task Force as heavy-handed barbarians with no sense of scientific values; in return Dragonfly resented her unit "baby-sitting a Boy Scout troop." Both teams reported to Euromind's Director Borillon. Their first recorded joint mission was investigating monster sightings at a Spanish archaeological dig. They discovered descendants of Inhumans who had been thrown by the Inquisition into an underground cave system to die; when the Inquisition subsequently disposed of the remains of a crashed Skrull ship and its crew the same way, the Inhumans had feasted on the dead aliens, and transformed into monstrous metamorphs.

Eurolab rescued survivors from an Italian jumbo jet that had splashed down after a passenger transformed into a rampaging monster. As it began to sink, Damage located the metahuman; no longer out of control, he refused to be saved, claiming he preferred to die rather than be recaptured by the people behind his metamorphosis. While investigating reports of artificially mutated humans in Malaysia, Task Force was attacked by the cyborg soldiers the Lords of War, who slew Dragonfly and Blue Condor; Tiger and Argento retreated, but Iceboy was captured. Back at base, Key and Tiger were told SHAPE had ordered an end to the investigation into the origins of the mutates. Eurolab and the surviving members of Task Force decided to return to Malaysia and find Iceboy; their meeting was secretly monitored, and as they departed, armed Euromind agents tried to detain them. They escaped, but some of the Euromind agents opened fire on their fellows, framing the errant squads for the killings; Borillon soon saw through the ruse, but was unable to prove the truth.

The squads, now united as Euroforce, tracked Iceboy to the labs of French multinational Nadir, which proved to be an A.I.M. front. While the bulk of the team held off both A.I.M. agents and the Lords of War, Tiger and Key breached the maximum security section and found a dramatically mutated Iceboy. A.I.M. agents burst in and shattered Iceboy's gestation tank with gunfire; Iceboy quickly defeated the agents, but died seconds later because the process had been interrupted. Key and Tiger reunited with the others, who had evaded the Lords of War, and Euroforce fled. As they flew away, their plane was attacked by the Lords of War and exploded; though SHAPE believed them dead, they survived and, secretly allied with Borillon, are planning their next move.

Team rooster

Since the two teams have quite different specializations I listed them separatly

Eurolab

Key (Geyr Kluge): Eurolab field leader, Key is a former field scientist of SHIELD with no known superhuman power but a lot of years of experience. He was portraied as an highly athletic man, a capable startegist and a genius field researcher, his main weakness is a slightly lack on the tactical abilities. Even lacking any power Key displayed a prodigious memory - he was able to recall by the word long pieces of Reed Richards' writings - and an amazing knowledge of languages both human and alien (he speaks, understands and reads german, english, italian, spanish, french, inhuman and skrull for sure). Key is a scientist first and foremost he hate violence, but he is more than willingly to defend himself, and unnecessary destruction. By the rules point of view Key is the quintessential adventurer, the only possible power for him is a Comprehend (all langueges speak, understand and read) to represent his extensive ability with languages.

Danger (real name unknow): Key's second in command, Danger is a mutant capable of generating powerful blasts of an undefined energy type, while in certain panels it looks like that he is able to fly it's unclear if he can or it's only a graphic license. Danger wear a sort of contaiment armored suit all the time, apparently he isn't able to control his powers without it (it was hinted that he is no longer flesh and blood, but only a mass of energy kept together by the suit). Of all the members of Eurolab Danger is the most likely to have a paramilitary training, since it was supposed to be part of Task Force in the first place. Danger is portrayed as a no nonsense character, he uses his powers to get the job done with minimal collateral damage, while he doesn't like to use them as a weapon, usually keeping his own powers in check fearing to lose control, like Key he is more than willingly to defend himself. Another straight character Danger is an energy controller with a peculiar BG.

Nuage (Silvie Rouge): the team "first contact expert", Nuage is a quite intersting psionic character. She displayed the standard Marvel psionic package (Telepathy, Telekinesis, Emotion control etc.) but the details set her apart. First Nuage TK is surprisingly weak, she isn't able to manipulate a weight greater than 100 Kg (more or less), but that's enogh to make her able to fly at low speed. Second her telepatic powers are more empatic in nature, she is able to project and perceive emotions in a vast area around her, but her mind reading is limited to a single mind at a time, even if she can execute a quite accurate and in depth scan. Third she possess a quite powerful psycometry (quite a useful power for an archeologist), that combined with her telepathy make her able to read a cyborg's mind and data banks at once. When she use her powers a small energy orb appears near her, the orb colour seem to reflect her emotional state, usually it's light blue or green, the angrier she gets more the orb's colour moves toward red. Nuage is portrayed as the second most learned character, after Key, and a pacifist at the heart. She rarely enters a fight prefering to use her powers to calm her opponents, she is also extremly carring towards any innocent bystander (in #0 she risk her own life to save a pregnant moloid woman).

Deepsight (Jane Melville): Deepsight is a cyborg with the left half of her body replaced by adamantium prothesis. She is the team tech girl and powerhouse (probably the right half of her body is internaly reinforced). Deepsight have a distinctive lack of empathy and emotions, it's unclear if this is a result of her cyborged state or a trait of her personality. Among the other devices implanted in her body she had a radio, an infrared/telescope/telemeter (in her left eye), a parabolic microphone and a tactical computer, also she was able to interface with computers or other equipment designed to accept her human/machine interface programs, like SHIELD's (she can't do a Deathlock style datalink). In at least two occasions she was able to survive fall without any significant damage by absorbing all the impact on her left leg. Due to the different density of her two halfs Deepsight have some trouble with balance feats and need a specificaly tuned climbing equipment. While Deepsight is a quite attractive girl, her emotial lacks and the metal plating on her body makes her less attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex, apparently Picaro is the only one not concerned about these issues.

Picaro (Antonio Rey): Eurolab comunication expert, Picaro is mutant with the ability to generate electrical energy from his own hands, this ability also speed up his nervous system giving him a superior degree of muscle control. While he can use his power as a weapon he rarely do so since it apperars to be quite tiring. Picaro is portrayed as quite a showoff, with a personality very akin to Gambit. He has a crush on Deepsight, but she appears not to like him (or at least not showing it).

Task Force

Task Force is a military unit that takes its members from some of the finest special forces of Europe.

Dragonfly (real name unknow): the highly aggressive team leader, like Key she has no power but she is highly trained soldier and commander, she is particulary good at improvising on the run tactics, that makes her the natural complement to Key more intellectual style of command. She has several years of experience as a SHIELD's field agent, and before she was part of an unnamed special forces unit (probably KSK - Kommando Spezialkräfte, the german special forces - based on some hint by Key). Like the rest of her team, she packs a vast arsenal of weapons, but her signature weapon is blaster rifle with an underbarrel grenade launcher. It was hinted that Dragonfly and Key have a long backstory, and that they probably loves each other as persons, but loath each other work. She is the most flamboyant and aggressive of her team, both her temperament and her skill looks like 2/3 Domino's and 1/3 Rogue (classic version).

Bluebird (real name unknow): a former SAS member, Bluebird is equiped with an armored exoskeletron capable of agumenting the strengh of her limbs by several Gs, making her able to throw a punch through a vibranium-steel armour or making leaps hundreds of meters long. Unfortunatly she was the most underused character of the entire team, so I don't have clue about her temperament.

Iceboy (real name unknow): Task Force heavy weapon expert, Iceboy is the only non european in the team, he is canadian. Iceboy have no powers of his own, but he is a super skilled soldier (it was hinted that he had a sort of nanomachine network that protects him from extreme temperatures and speed up his recovery, but this note was never consistently backed up). His signautre weapon is a 5 barreled gatling gun, but he was described as able to use any modern firearm or explosive equally well. Iceboy is a direct no nonsense soldier, he knew when to fight and when to retreat, he is also the best friend of Tiger.

Argento (real name unknow): the team infiltrator and sniper Argento (the italian for Silver) is an albino soldier from the GIS (Gruppo Intervento Speciale - Special Intervention Group - the italian anti terrorism unit). During the series he discovered to be a mutant with the ability to make himself impossible to perceive, meaning that he is invisible to various visual, auditory, olfactory and telepathic senses, and to some radar sensors. While this ability complemented his own natural skill, Argento doesn't cope so well with his new condition. He was potrayed as quite a loner, a trait that was exacerbated by his specialization and his mutation. In combat the rest of the team rarely knew where he is, but they seem to rely on th fact that he will be around for help. His training makes him an expert with long range rifles and close combat weapons (mainly knifes, light pistols or SMG), his skill with other weapons are less developed.

Tiger (real name unknow): the team brick, Tiger is a eight feet tall hulking soldier with a layer of impenetrable skin grafted over all of his body. This skin looks akin to the external layer of Rhino's armour. He was trained by SHIELD and hinted that worked under the direct command of Nick Fury in a couple mission, before joining the Task Force. Tiger is a veteran soldier, with a way of thinking very close to Iceboy, he seem to get along quite well with Danger too. Statwise tiger is a brick/blaster combination (thanks to his size he can swing around some serious firepower, since he can wield an heavy machine gun like an assault rifle), while his size and muscular density makes him stronger than a normal human being, he distinctivly lacks superstrengh.

Image
Some of the team members (from left to right): Deepsight, Danger, Key, Argento, Nuage (in front of the others probing someone), and Tiger.

Personal considerations

Euroforce lacks any world class superhuman, as singles they are truly weak, but they tend to work together extremly well (even better than the X-men), and displayed an amazing level of teamwork. Also they have a lot of formal military or paramilitary training to back up their powers, making them a lot more dangerous than the standard superhumans without their powers. They are also a lot more stable than Gemini, and more experienced.

Euroforce also had a truly international feeling, Key (and probably Dragonfly too) is German, Danger is from Belgium, Nuage is French, Deepsight and Bluebird are from the Great Britain, Picaro is Spanish, Argento is Italian and Iceboy is Canadian. Tiger origins are undefined, but he is probably from the USA.

Wow, that's some pretty in-depth stuff for a team I'd never heard of. I'll get into EuroForce and other 90s stuff once I'm done with the Avengers.

True, Euroforce has some serious backstory and some surprisingly good ideas. While the character had a definitly 90's feeling (usually a not so good thing in my book) they enjoyed a good writing and psycological characterization. I'm truly sad that these characters, that Marvel officialy consider canon, never had another chance after their first limited serie.

-Dane Whitman's had it pretty rough for a "Classic Avengers" era character. His brief initial run led to decades of near-obscurity, and his 80s & 90s runs with the Avengers weren't much better. He actually had a big, solid run in the 90s on the big team, but sadly, this was the "Brown leather jacket" phase Avengers, where the entire team was desperately trying to be as much like the Jim Lee X-Men as possible, in an era that mostly gets made fun of these days. Particularly egregious was Dane's giant 90s mullet and perma-stubble, surefire signs of a terrible design. No he's kicking around Excalibur, doing random stuff. Pretty much all the pre-requisites for a guy to be on the C or D-team.

-Dane's a well-balanced, but way under-pointed PL 10. Surprisingly, he's a fairly decent weak tech-guy as well, but his main ability is swordfighting. He's REALLY good at it (+13 Attack), can modify most of his caps with his Combat Feats, and the Ebony Blade itself is one of the most devastating weapons in the Marvel Universe. It's a standard sword (I dislike any weapon getting more than +3 Damage), but it's damage is in ten ranks of Penetrating (Power Attack lets him hit hard enough to equal that in Damage), and four combined ranks of Improved Critical (one from Dane's training, three from the Blade itself). It also has some weird sub-powers, including cutting through magical shields and absorbing energy, though the latter is at a low enough level he can't just do it all the time.

For his "Photonic Sword" when he gave up the Ebony Blade, use the following:
"Photonic Sword" Device 4 (easy to lose) [12]
Stun 9 (19)
AP: Strike 3 (Feats: Mighty, Improved Critical) (Extras: Penetrating 7) (Flaws: Limited- Unliving Targets Only)

Nice Black Knight build!

The way that you built the Ebony Blade is almost identical to how I was thinking of doing it.

Now I'm a little bit jealous that you got yours posted before me.... :P

But it's still a good build.

-One of Marvel's weirder ideas, D-Man was an Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation guy with a sense of honor, and joined The Thing & Captain America at different times to take on the Power Broker. His link to the Avengers in tenuous at best, being a short-lived joke member in a time of need, and he only appears in giant retrospectives nowadays.

-D-Man's pretty crappy, being a very low-pointed PL 8 guy. He's strong and hard to hurt, but he's got a heart condition and lacks the majority of Skills & Feats that most heroes need, in addition to being pretty simple-minded and easy to mind-warp.

-Jocasta's a short-lived, mostly forgotten Avenger, joining briefly after (and during) several new Ultron phases, as he built her to be his bride, a la "Frankenstein". Of course, she pulled a Vision and joined the Avengers. This is likely why she's mostly forgotten- she's got the same origin as a guy ON THE SAME TEAM as her, not to mention she's boring-looking, essentially being a big robotic Princess Leia. She'll apparently show up in the new Might Avengers line-up (what IS it with modern Avengers and changing their lineups every three seconds?), so she might become a big star in the Warbird/Spider-Woman vein.

-A pretty boring character, Jocasta's your average tough, strong robot. Her Force Field gives her a ton of Toughness when combined with her body's make-up, so she's pretty easy to hit, putting her safely within PL 8 caps.

-Carol Danvers has been absolutely ALL OVER THE PLACE in Marvel. That's mostly thanks to Chris Claremont, who chose her as one of his random "Angry Women With Godlike Powers (tm)" after working on her book in the 80s, shoved her onto the X-Men with a rivet gun, turned her into Binary, and then left her as an ubergod for a while. The 1990s saw a new Carol come in as "Warbird", with an alcohol problem and a career resurrection once she beat that, and she all of a sudden got a major push out of NOWHERE as "Miss Marvel" again, as seemingly a dozen different guys all at once figured out she was hot and that they should make her a big star. Currently, her comic EASILY outsells DC's Wonder Woman, despite their all-star creative team. I blame Diana's boring character that makes no sense :).

-Miss Marvel pretty well fits the "Way Overpointed PL 10" class of hero, seeing as she's very powerful and skilled, but not a god of war or anything. She starts out as a PL 9 until she starts absorbing energy, at which point she goes to full ranks and is much more powerful (and her Impervious Toughness takes care of any leftover energy she doesn't convert to hitting power). For any added bonuses to damage (she's implied to be on a level of hitting power with the Colossus/Thing level of guys), use Power Attack. Aside from that, she's your standard powerful Flying Brick, but not ready for an "S" on her chest or anything.

-Echo's as new as they get on the Avengers, coming in from Bendis' Daredevil run to join the team as mystery member "Ronin". She's fairly interesting as a character, but is kind of hopelessly caught up in the zone of Daredevil Girlfriends, in that she's a crazy assassin at one point hired to kill him. DD's book is like that. Her powers are pretty unique in comics, but sadly, the only other guy to have them is the pretty well-known and unique Taskmaster, which makes her seem like a cheap female copy. The added bonus is that like DD, she's missing out on one total sense, her being hearing. And that'll mess her up BAD, as a Visual Dazzle or Obscure effect will all but cripple her Notice checks.

-Echo's an over-pointed PL 9, able to hang on her own with most of the elite martial artists out there. Her Reflex Memory is at a relatively low (but still very expensive) level, allowing her to 'keep' some of the points to use the skills she's been shown using (Piano playing and dancing, mostly). Think of her as a mini-Taskmaster in this fashion.
