While I can't stand the colors, the art is one of my favorites from the time.

Done by Mr. Greg Capullo who later went on to do other 90's greats like Spawn &.....

Well he did Spawn and his own smaller series for Image the Tenth.

Yeah, Capullo rocked. I actually liked Tony Daniel (the other X-Force artist post-Liefeld) a bit more at the time, but retrospect has shown Capullo to be a much better artist, in that he was a perfectly capable Jim Lee or Kubert knock-off with good fundamentals, and Daniel was nuts and had all over the place proportions.

-Rictor was, like Boom-Boom a 1980s addition to the X-Factor book, who then got moved onto Louise Simonson's other project, The New Mutants. When Rob Liefeld took over the direction of that title and converted it to X-Force, Rictor got lost in the mix and disappeared, showing up again in the anti-Cable team Weapon: P.R.I.M.E., then rejoined the team. He got a new, non-80s Skid Row costume, and was basically redesigned as a Gambit knock-off, featuring long locks, black eyes with brown irises, tassles, pockets, and a cynical, snarky attitude. But he at least realized Cable didn't kill his father (in one of the more hilariously casual explanations in comics history, Cable just says "I didn't do it, Stryfe did" and that was the end of it).
-It needs to be stated that his previous powers of creating vibratory waves to create earthquakes and the like (featuring single-line vibrational effects rather than a visible beam) gave way to a sudden "Energy Blast" power, creating a Richter-Scale looking jabbed energy beam that he used to blast away at guys. Because in the 90s, if HALF THE TEAM wasn't firing energy blasts, then you just weren't trying.
-Rictor's a slightly under-pointed PL 10, with a good, balanced Blast power with some unique properties (particularly the two APs, though Knockback 4 is pretty good), and fairly well-balanced across the board. He's a bit lacking in the important skills, however, and needs the rest of X-Force to be effective, as he's only PL 8 defensively, and can't take a hit.

Boom Boom, now there was a lame character in the 90's. Back in the day my old group played the Marvel Superheroes RPG adventure "Mutating Mutants" and I had to play her. That like sucked I'm sooooo sure.

She got kinda interesting in her modern Paris Hilton incarnation. I recall a recent story where she used myspace and coffee to defeate a supervillain. Plus as the mutant character on the Nextwave squad, she was good.

(BTW do you remember Stinger the bio-electric valley girl from the Alliance of Evil? Always thought she was boomer's evil twin.)

Sadly, Boomer may actually have been tolerable with a Chris Claremont-style 'indictment of modern culture' sense, but I got the impression that her creator, Louise Simonson, actually THOUGHT THIS WAS WHAT KIDS WERE LIKE. I mean, my SISTERS sure were for a while from watching TV, but they outgrew that in their mid-teens.

-Roberto started out as the New Mutants' Powerhouse, but with a difference: he wasn't invulnerable. He could be shot to death just as easy as Dani or Xi'an, though you wouldn't know it from listening to him. The little bugger was a humorously egotistical little guy for years in the New Mutants. Liefeld & Nicieza's takeover would lead to him becoming another mopey 90s guy, as his father was killed, and he was led on by obvious super-villain Gideon (whose build is coming, make no mistake). Gideon's advancement of Roberto's limits served him well, in spite of 'Berto's anger over being kidnapped and experimented on. It turned the former generic brick (with a notable weakness- lack of invulnerability, so he could still be shot to death) with not a lot of raw strength compared to most, into a true powerhouse, often statted in the Class 50 range, as WELL as giving him a blast power. This, of course, turned X-Force into a team with MULTIPLE Blasters, so much so that every fight they got into had like five or six guys shooting stuff at the enemy (this pretty much earned them the moniker of the least-subtle team in hero history in terms of combat). This power-up also built to him later gaining flight, turning him into a Paragon/Flying Brick character. Oddly enough, in spite of all that, he's pretty much relegated to side-stories and hasn't been a major character in eons.
-Having a Blast AND Super-Strength, Bobby has lots of capability, but needs that extra five pp short of perfect PL 10 (150) for his later Flight power. I settled pretty easily on +10 for his Damage limits, as he's a Brick, but not truly uber. Bobby's build lends towards straight Bricking and Blasting most of the time, though he leans much more towards the physical side right now. He gets Jack-of-all-Trades since he seems to be able to do whatever based on what the writer needs at any given time (explained away via his rich upbringing- he knew Latin in the New Mutants days, he's been seen piloting ships, etc.). I wasn't sure on his Drawback, because they eventually just started ignoring the whole "daylight hours" aspect of his powers, but I'll consider him on the precipise of losing it as a bridge between eras for the character.

-Ahhhh Feral, one of Rob Liefeld's creations, and he shows through in every facet of her being: wrist-hiding gloves (even though she HAS CLAWS), giant spikey haircut, pointy costume. Pretty blatantly a Wolverine rip-off (claws, regeneration, animalistic nature and attitude), and a weird situation where she was clearly a stand-in for Wolfsbane, who left the New Mutants following the X-Tinction Agenda. Especially weird since later artists like Andy Kubert & Greg Capullo gave them the exact same haircut, and that Liefeld could've used Wolfsbane if he'd wanted.
-Feral was a complete misfit on X-Force, nearly murdering Cannonball on a TRAINING MISSION just because she was angry, and then nobody mentioning it afterwards, because the 90s were like that (badasses who did horrible things without repurcussion), and repeatedly maiming or slashing foes. By the time she finally betrayed the team to join Reignfire's MLF, she was the most hated member BY FAR (judging by the letters page and the internet), and she vanished for years, getting the Legacy Virus after a brief MLF/X-Force battle later. She was cured and then turned human by the Scarlet Witch's Negation Wave thingie, then murdered by Sabretooth simply to get her and her similarly-generic and boring sister Thornn out of the way.
-Yeah, she had a sister named Thornn. She was a villain at first, fighting Feral & X-Force with Morlock aid, but then turned into a hero suddenly in an arc that revealed Feral's sordid past, where she killed several members of her family. Yeah, Feral was nutsoid and belonged nowhere near a HERO team, vigilantes or not.
-Feral's pretty much a Wolverine clone in her stats, minus a few Power Levels and a ton of points. She's reasonably skilled, but mostly in sneaking around or scaring people, and she's focused entirely on Scrapping. She gets most of the "Animal Person" powers that I give people, such as Senses, Leaping, Speed, Regeneration (at minor levels, since it was never a huge part of her being, just a tendency to take brutal damage and be pretty much fine with it). She's one of the weaker X-Force members, which is generally obvious given how little she tends to do in battle against non-Mutant Liberation Front (ie. good) opponents.

You forgot one other Liefeld feature, tiny ankles! His characters should all wear shin guards. If a villain kicked them in the shins they would snap off!

I can rip on him because Iwas a big fan of his in the 90s. That stopped shortly after he put out Bludwulf(sabertooth as lobo)! His total lack of imagination just made me snap! There's a guy in that peice of crap that is Cable only with a Y symbol.

-Warpath is one of my favourite comic book characters, mainly because I always loved the "Team Strongman" archetype, and I first got REALLY into comics around the time X-Force debuted, and there he was. His history is the usual jumble of random crap that Marvel guys from the 90s tend to have, too. He started out as the "newly introduced relative" (one of the most common comic book origins ever) of the original John "We Killed Him Right Away Because He Was Redundant" Proudstar, aka Thunderbird, debuting in X-Men to get his revenge, but realizing that was a hollow dream. Instead of an expected face turn, however, he ended up going BACK to his semi-evil cronies in the Hellions (as he still couldn't entirely forgive Xavier for his role in T-Bird's death- a nice, realistic resolution), becoming Thunderbird II, their leader.
-This went along fine for years, but circa Rob Liefeld jumping on board, James was modified. Since Robbie needed a Big Guy on his new team (it was the 90s- just look at every team from that era, and you'll see a steroid behemoth), someone made the decision to shoehorn James (who until that point had never really revealed mutant powers beyond being bigger and tougher than most normal people) into that role. He grew something like two feet (on an already tall guy), HUGE muscles, and started wearing his brother's old uniform full-time. He got to brawl with the Juggernaut (and managed to NOT GET KO'd!), lose to Strong Guy (in a move I LOATHED, because I hated Guido so much at this time), fall in love with Siryn in one of my fave storylines (because I ALSO had a crush on Siryn, of course), and grow ANOTHER couple feet under Tony Daniel's hyper-exaggerated pencils.
-He was pretty good as X-Force's powerhouse, left standing after hits that felled the entire team, etc., and getting some of the funnier lines in the books ("What say we make your dentist a VERY rich man?") and getting an unfortunate reference to liking "Porno For Pyros". But it wouldn't last, as the post-Nicieza years on the book left him with the ability to FLY for some ridiculous reason, and though that silly power was written out, he never recovered from the failings of the X-Force series by that point, and he vanished into the ether for years. Arising from Marvel Limbo only recently as one of Claremont's new pet project characters (among the safest places in comics), with new Vibranium knives, and a more reasonable build again.
-Warpath stats out as a semi-generic Powerhouse/Brick character, but with some extra skills and Ability scores (Agility 16) rare for that type. My last build of him had Growth for his added size, but I left it out here. He's fully-balanced on offense & defense, but unfortunately leaves no room for the growth the others developed, meaning his later, Knife-wielding version, will be over-pointed.

-Siryn, originally designed as a typical mis-shapen Liefeldian woman, eventually developed into an extremely shapely young woman under Capullo & Daniel in X-Force's post-Liefeld years, where she became one of my favourites. The flaming red hair, the skin-tight green costume, the cute accent, the... er, excuse me (cleans up). They had a brief plotline dealing with her alcoholism (after an embarassing series of hitting on Shatterstar AND Cable!), and a fascinating deal with Black Tom, and how he raised her to a life of crime, leading to various feelings within her (which were pretty deep for a 90s comic usually based around explosions and fighting), as she owed him her childhood, but he also kind of ruined her life. She started developing leadership tendencies on the team out of nowhere (it just kind of got brought up one time that "I can lead field missions, dammit!"), and had a LONG storyline involving Warpath's crush on her, but she basically let him know it wasn't going to happen, in a move that REALLY disappointed me. After he helped her get over her alcoholism and the like, it seemed like the next writer just dropped it and had him hook up with some lame Risque character, and all that went nowhere. She was de-powered after heel-turn Feral cut her throat.
-She got re-powered in the pages of Deadpool, where she turned into HIS love interest, though again, it just never happened. Years later, she re-appeared in the pages of X-Factor, where she had a big love triangle with Jamie Madrox and Monet St. Croix as "The Veronica". She's currently carrying his child. Such is what happens when your character spends fifteen years being based around what male character wants to nail her at any given time.
-Siryn comes out under-pointed compared to most of her buddies, mainly because she doesn't possess many of the side-tricks she's picked up in recent years, under more clever writers. In X-Force, she basically used her Sonic Scream as a Blast or Dazzle (occasionally a Stun/Sleep effect, and teamed up with Rictor to create a Force Field-nullifying counter-current of vibrations), and couldn't control people like a mythical Siren just yet.

-Shatterstar is Rob Liefeld's baby even more than Cable is, since Cable had a life and career far beyond Rob's influence. But Shatterstar's always been a self-consciously crazy ass-kicker, jumping around with his ridiculous double-bladed swords, super-killy attitude, and giant flying braids (that often change position and length between panels!). His weird puffy helmet thing turned into a much-cooler metal one, and there were strong hints that he was gay for Rictor (that got subsequently ignored except for Peter David- because David's good like that). He also possesses a MAJOR hallmark of mutants in the 90s: The pointless later-added-on mutant power, where you could EASILY tell that the creator designed this bad-ass character with weapons, a costume, and a wicked appearance, and then just casually threw on some kind of non-useful power later, because they realized that mutants ALWAYS have powers. This leads to hilarious situation's like Cable's Ass-Pull of Telekinesis, Domino's "Falling Into Place" power, Deadpool's Regeneration (though he wasn't a mutant), Bishop's Absorption powers, and finally, Shatterstar's utterly pointless, draining, forgotten-all-the-time ability to fire a draining energy blast capablef of blowing down a door, or 'killing' Reaper of the MLF. Like seriously, WHAT THE HELL there?
-Shatterstar is, sadly, just TOO 90s to ever make a serious comeback, and only shows up in X-Force nostalgia projects these days, whereas the rest of the team actually makes appearances in other X-books, and many have upgraded to the big leagues. Too bad, he was kind of funny when Nicieza wrote him to be self-consciously a reflection of our modern TV-obsessed era.
-Shatterstar makes his caps by being pretty damn strong (they always SAY he has enhanced strength, but personally, I've never seen him lift ANYTHING heavier than Rictor, and bullets go through him just like anybody, so he gets ST 22 / CON 28 and likes it), and very accurate. I almost want to give him +12 to Attack/Defense, but that'd both make him over-capped, and Shatterstar often never hit anybody THAT skilled, and he got hit by enemy fire CONSTANTLY by just flying in willy-nilly with crazy acrobatic attacks. He can modify most of his caps with his extensive Combat Feats (usually All-Out Attack & Power Attack), but he's out of his league against guys like Wolverine or Sabretooth. Basically a greatly talented Goonsweeper who's also really good at drawing enemy fire.
