Tyrant Lizard King wrote:Mike, I have a question about your Buu Saga Goku build. In which book are Containers described? And what exactly is the mechanic by which Goku's PL (in M&M terms) goes up when he transforms? Wouldn't the points for Alternate Form just be added to his base form's cost, or is that a function of the Container?

Thanks.

Haven't seen Mike on the boards for a good while. I can only answer the first part and that is Containers are in Ultimate Power. It's simply a way of combining similar or unsimilar powers into one power set at 5/pp per rank. They can either be Active (requiring a free action to activate) or Passive (meaning they are "on" all the time).

Not sure about his Goku build so if he pops in, I'm sure he'll answer it.

(sorry Libra), and FMA and Bleach are a couple of my favorites! If your ever looking for some new ones to try, i'd suggest the Akira movie, an anime classic, and Death Note, a great series now on Hulu, both are a bit more mature and really enjoyable...just my 2 cents...

as always keep up the good work Thorp!

I tried to get into Death Note, but I just couldn't get into it. I have developed a tolerance for Samuria Champloo and Ghost In The Shell, but I don't follow them regularly as I do Bleach and FMA.

I still LOATHE Dragon Ball Z, though. I haven't gone that soft yet! :D

Getting stocked on Aisle 3 is the first, and best item in our new Inhumans line.

Even Chuck Norris needs to look out for this guy.

Nah...what am I thinking? He'd be lucky to move a hair on Chuck's beard with that blast!

Comments: I went all out on Black Bolt for two reasons: first, he has been noted as the most or second most powerful superhuman in the Marvel Universe, even more powerful than the pre-World War Hulk Green Hulk (since the Black Bolt he waxed was a Skrull, the jury is still out on whether he could take that Hulk in that state). Second, he’s a fave and I always like to give props to a fave.

So here is Black Bolt, king of the Inhuman realm of Attilan, member of the Illuminati and possessor of the most wicked effect in all of non-God powered Marveldom: his voice. Even a whisper from him can drop an non angry Hulk and a shout can shatter a mountain. His power is so devastating, he has trained his entire life to make no sounds whatsoever even when he is asleep. I think his +23 damage is pretty comparable to what he can do, but I'm debating about taking him up a PL to get it to +25. The times I have seen it used are THAT impressive.

Outside of that Black Bolt is constantly absorbing energy and converting it to his other powers, like super strength, flight, a force field and his legendary Master Blow. Not as powerful as his voice, but enough to take out most opponents with one shot, but it does leave him drained when he does it, much like The Iron Fist does to Iron Fist.

He just rocks. I hope to have him make a cameo at some point in Dead In America when I resume it next year.

Comments: The princess of the Inhuman Royal Family, Crystal. She was actually the first Inhuman I saw when I started reading comics. She has in the FF at the time and I was totally confused but eventually I figured out what was going on. I thought Sue had just dyed her hair at first, then she starting flinging chunks of earth around and I realized I was just stupid.

And things haven't changed! :D

Anyway, for those not in the know, she can control any of the four elements, which makes her a very handy character. And she gets in scrape, Lockjaw has her back. I didn't build Lockjaw since Taliesin built him perfectly, so I will direct you to his Crystal build for the best use of those Sidekick points.

Nice Inhumans so far Thorp!

After looking at your version of Black Bolt I suddenly feel like mine may actually be secretly a Skrull. Very nice build!

I see you went with Targeted Area for Black Bolt's voice. General Area would be more appropriate, but then you'd run into the PL limitation and the power rank needs to be 20+ like you statted it.

I kind of wish that the area effect rules were somehow revised and Defense and Reflex not two separate stats.

Preach on brother Taliesin. I almost made him PL25 so it could be rules appropriate and a general area attack for that reason because it is more of a general area. I may do that with an NPC-ish version, but I wanted to possibly play this one.

Slight quibble on Black Bolt, but one based on having no knowledge of the character beyond the fact his superpower is really quite brutal (shouty genocide!). If he can't talk without hurting things, does he not know any sign languages?

That he does, and I just forgot to add that and Attilan, which I had accounted for in Skill ranks, just forgot to add them to the build. Thanks for the catch!

Nice Black Bolt, Thorp!

However, one minor question, as BB is a favorite of mine and I've been grappling with how to do a build of him myself. Should he really have Full Power? I mean, he's not constantly shouting as loud as he can, what with the whispering and all, or was that why you gave him a Stun AP? Even so, somebody who can do anything from whispering, up to speaking normally (for him, and with enough force to counter Mind Control, I might add) up to shouting, seems to have some sort of scale on power. It just doesn't start that low, that's all.

I do understand this would be tricky at best to model, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was torn about that one myself, but I couldn't think of another Drawback that fits and his power REALLY needs a drawback. It's not Uncontrolled, either. That's what I thought fit best, although it's not perfect.

I suppose you could make it an array where you have a "shout" as the highest ranked blast, then "talking" at a lower level and then "whisper" at the lowest, since you wouldn't have to spend all the PP on those AP. Not quite for sure what else to do to truly mimick it. It's a tricky power for something so seemingly simple.

Comments: The REAL American hero, not G.I. Joe, not that guy in the bad suit from the 70’s super hero spoof show, The Greatest American Hero; the real heroes' hero, Captain America.

As far as my build goes, I was originally trying to bring him at proper PP level, but then I realized I forgot his Inspire so there went the additional 5pp. I liked everything else a lot, so I just kept thing as is. I love the way the build came out. He is a combat machine, a goon sweeping G and I loaded him up with leadership skills befitting the best in the biz. He’s the man.

Clean Up 1/12/08: Since I am currently in a "must...make...all...builds...playable" mode, Cap gets a trim to be a balanced PL12. He needs to be ready to make his triumplant return in the Thorpacoverse.

Clean Up 11/12/08: I was in a Cap mood since I decided to switch gears in my upcoming story and spend some time in the Cap-verse for a couple of fights. As such, I needed to make sure this build was ready to roll and after a few more tweaks, I am quite happy with it. With 5 ranks of Inspire and Luck, his co-horts will be All-American wrecking machines!

Since I am feeling way patriotic these days since Obama actually got elected and my country didn't let me down for once, I felt the need to spend a little time in the Cap-verse. So I started with reworking my playable Cap before posting some other ones. I'd recently posted Sin, Dr. Faustus and Arnim Zola, had done the Red Skull, Buck as Cap, Falcon, Crossbones and US Agent a while back and I thought I was done, but man was I wrong...

More to come soon.

Comments: Poor Jack Flag. Jack was another Cap protégé that had a bit of a run for a while as a guy who, along with his brother Drake did some crime fighting on their own and uncovered a plot by the Serpent Society. Somewhere in the arc, he got into a fight with Mr. Hyde, some of the Hyde chemicals got poured on him and he gained super strength. Cap ended up helping him out and they became cohorts for a while. He disappeared for a while after helping run Cap’s hotline and then he shows up again in Thunderbolts as an unregistered hero. Next thing you know, he is holding his own again the whole team when Bullseye sneaks up behind him and stabs him in the back, paralyzing him. Hasn’t been seen since.
