Real Name: Drake Lang

Biography: Drake Long comes from a long line of Neo-Sapiens. Those blessed with their abilities have long defended China for generations, acting from the shadows in their mysterious art. They have contended with ordinary evil-doers, other Neo-Sapiens, and even the occasional magical being. All this is done with their family’s ability to shapeshift… into a dragon.

The new generation of dragons prepares to take his place in their family’s legacy through his trials at the New Vindicators Academy. His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all have their doubts.

Calling himself “the Chi-Drag” (Chinese Dragon) and often claiming to represent “the P.R.C.” (People’s Republic of China), Drake is hyper-active, cocky, and a little on the slow side. Whether or not his time overseas at the New Vindicators Academy of Asia manages to straighten him out has yet to be seen… but his family hasn’t stopped crossing their fingers yet.

NEW VINDICATORS: Sic Semper Tyrannis – Due to his pedigree, Drake was given charge over a team to take into the Trials. He drafted Carnal, Melody and Menagerie. Together the four made it to the Final Trial, where in the first round Drake overcame Tristan.

In the second round, Drake found himself facing Mutt, Brass and Rumble. Thinking he had no ability to take down Rumble, Mutt conspired with Drake to take out Brass with the intent of taking down Drake the first chance he had. Still, when Mutt ferociously mauled Brass, Drake moved to take down Mutt and the withdrew himself – letting Brass advance with Rumble.

NEW VINDICATORS: Et Spe – After ending up in Manhattan Drake found himself assisting Cabal (II) and Lodestone (II) in their fight against Vapula. He continued with them until their fight with Amy, where he lost his life protecting Cabal.

Biography: Mario is the second son of English necromancer Doctor Alexander Tharivol and Danish superheroine, Doctor Samantha Talley (the first being A.J.) who, like his elder brother, inherited a fraction of his mother’s ability to transform into any animal. While A.J. is capable of transforming into any genus of rhinocerotidae, Mario is cable of turning into any member of the elephantidae family: the African Bush Elephant, African Forest Elephant, Asian Elephant and woolly mammoth.

In marginal contrast to his brother, the Pachyderm is a bibliophile.

NEW VINDICATORS: Hostis Humani Generis – The Pachyderm was one of the young heroes the refugee New Vindicators met when they went to Europe. When Gabrielle’s group responded to an earthquake he traveled with them to the United States to help save the survivors of a parking garage collapse.

NEW VINDICATORS: Contraria Contrariis Curantur – When the New Vindicators were crippled by disease, a small group arrived from the European school to assist them, the Pachyderm amongst them. Along with Boson and Breeze, the Pachyderm searched for his prodigal brother and began to learn about the legacy behind his name.

NEW VINDICATORS: Condemnant Quod Non Intellegunt – Following their battle with the Damned, the New Vindicators of America gave the Rhino a ride back to Vienna where he was reunited with his family. Backlash and Coldfire, competing with each other indirectly, picked from their respective students and pitted them against each other in the Wreck Room. Amongst the Europeans selected by Backlash was the Pachyderm.

Biography: While attending the King’s School, Isaac Newton became engaged to Anne Storer, the stepdaughter of an apothecary he roomed with. Their romance died as Newton’s studies began to devour him and though Storer married another man Newton clung to their love and remained celibate.

Still, as the centuries passed over him the polymath found himself wanting a child. He opted to create one and built a mechanical girl in the eternal memory of his beloved fiancée.

Mezzanine lacks emotion but is otherwise capable of passing herself off as a normal human being. Such a façade is lost when she transforms to fulfill her dual purpose: that of bodyguard. Mezzanine’s right arm is capable of opening up and revealing a powerful cannon she evokes in protecting her father from his scant few enemies: surviving members of the Rosicrucians, Siegfried and a few members of the original Illuminati.

First Appearance: Illuminati #4

Biography: Considered one of the most influential men in all of history, Isaac Newton is remembered as being ahead of his time in the area of physics, mathematics, astronomy and philosophy. He produced more work on Biblical hermeneutics than natural science and was also an alchemist. He is the man who removed all doubts that remained concerning heliocentrism, thus vindicating Copernicus and Kepler. He demonstrated the theory of gravity and the laws of motion. He is the father of classical mechanics. Few doubt that this man of the seventeenth century, who advanced the scientific revolution, was far ahead of his time.

Even fewer would have corrected conjectured as to how he was so beyond human understanding.

Isaac Newton was an Esper capable of communicating with the souls of the departed as well as the angels who guided them and the demons that tormented them. Able to commune with otherworldly beings granted him a greater insight than his fellow man possessed and this talent made him the perfect addition to the Rosicrucians.

As the legendary scholar came to maturity Isaac Newton became influenced by the group of Espers capable of the same form of communication he was. The more time he spent with them the more he began to push the boundaries of what he could learn from the ethereal host. Under the guidance of a fallen Grigori, Isaac Newton was instructed on how to create the Philosopher’s Stone which enabled him to create life, transform matter and create the universal panacea known as the elixir vitae.

Now blessed with immortality Isaac found himself burdened with a great and terrible power and began to see the greed forming in the hearts of his fellow Espers. A war was sparked over the stone as Isaac Newton frantically moved to save the stone from the other Rosicrucians.

Help came in the form of an unexpected ally: Nicolas and Perenelle Flamel, who had achieved immortality when they had created another version of the Philosopher’s Stone three-hundred years before came to Isaac Newton’s rescue. When the Rosicrucians began to abuse their power, manufacturing stones of their own, the trio of alchemists were forced to manipulate Siegfried, the god-slayer, into assisting them in destroying the group. Doing so only invited his wrath as the knight later learned that they, like Odin before them, were immortals of a different stock.

Not wanting to carry the weight of the Philosopher’s Stone any longer, Isaac gave the collected stones to Nicolas and watched as the alchemist bonded the existing stones into one which he departed with.

ILLUMINATI: The Circle Chase – It is unknown when Isaac Newton joined the Thule Society’s elite group, the Illuminati, as the Astronomer, only that when the Collector insisted on their group choosing replacements to deal with the Wanderer, Isaac announced that he had contacted Siegfried.

NEW VINDICATORS: Condemnant Quod Non Intellegunt – When the New Vindicators traveled to visit their sister school in Vienna they discovered that Isaac Newton had been chosen by England to replace Richard Vogel as one of the headmasters of the European Academy.

The young heroes met Mezzanine, Headmaster Newton’s daughter and a student at the school. In a Wreck Room battle the American students watched as Mezzanine revealed herself as a mechanite who evoked powers similar to their amnesic classmate Dell. Though Headmaster Newton admitted Mezzanine was a creation of his he denied having ever built Dell.

Ultimately, after stopping the Entemologist’s attempt to abduct Headmistress Fischer, Dell discovered the truth: Isaac Newton had indeed built him, but in the year 2137, to stop a war that would result in Neo-Sapiens enslaving humanity.

I'll say this much Mich, you've a creative streak that makes me jealous at some points. Your Newton build is simple the current example, you've taken some common ideas used in comics and turned them on their collective ears for some unique concepts & builds.

Physical Appearance: Tall and lithe, Fiore is an immaculate young man with shoulder-length blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He is seldom seen without a warm, inviting smile.

Biography: Little is known of Fiore’s life prior to joining the New Vindicators Academy of Europe.

NEW VINDICATORS: Condemnant Quod Non Intellegunt – Fiore found himself enchanted by Pandora Filash, when a group of their American cousins arrived at the European institute. Suave and charming he began to pursue her romantically but found his attempts yielded by a contest between the two schools.

Leading Eiron, Maze, Mezzanine, the Pachyderm, Quail and Troubadour into battle, Fiore found his use limited. Instead he moved to play support, applying himself to keeping his more capable teammates in the fight. When the Americans realized he was responsible for renewing the Pachyderm’s fighting spirit many moved to target him instead and ensuring the Americans’ victory.

Face it: even Gregory House wouldn't be able to treat disease and poison without the right medicine; Fiore has enough ranks to generally know what will work and then uses his powers to create the most potent antidotes. It's a little questionable but... hey, this is a game where you can spend two points to talk to your refridgerator.

Saturday night, the PCs went off against a handful of the new kids at the European school and in the first round of combat Troubadour was knocked unconscious before he could make a move. Afterwards a few of the players asked what his powers were and I announced my intention to make him into the new Axeion--the guy who doesn't use his powers for the bulk of the story and when he finally shows everyone what he's capable of it's a tremendous let down. :-p

So how about I show you Maze instead? Everyone loves Nephilim...

MAZE (Power Level 8)

Physical Description: Maze is very ordinary in appearance; little stands out about this ordinary girl beyond the friendly smile she’s seldom seen without. Her uniform is unmodified and her hair is long and is typically worn in a braid that hangs to her knees.

Biography: Beyond that she was already an accomplished fencer, little is known of the Nephilim known as Maze prior to her enrolling at the New Vindicators Academy of Europe.

NEW VINDICATORS: Condemnant Quod Non Intellegunt – At the welcoming banquet it was Gage who initially approached Maze but when she displayed her powers for him it was the American’s own resident Nephilim, Lloyd Hilton, who immersed himself in talking with the young woman. Still, when Backlash and Coldfire elected to pit their students against each other in the Wreck Room the two found themselves facing off in battle.

Early on the reason behind her codename was an enigma; the Americans wondered if it referred to the color of her hellfire. Everything became clear when she let her rapier dissipate and engulfed Lloyd in a stream of yellow flames that banished him from the material plane.

Lloyd found himself trapped in an extra dimensional labyrinth composed of yellow hellfire and immediately began to try and solve the puzzle. Before he could, however, his teammates had incapacitated the young woman (not wanting to meet the same strange fate she had cast on Lloyd). Oddly enough, as Carl Hamilton observed, knocking her unconscious failed to return Lloyd to them—only when he solved the labyrinth did he return to the battle and then only to be taken out by Eiron.

Despite having been the only American victimized by Maze’s strange ability, Lloyd later moved to avenge Maze following her team’s defeat at the hands of one of their teachers. Then, in a move that stunned his teammates, the usually brash and abrasive Lloyd asked the Englishwoman to come with him to America…

Physical Appearance: Eiron is short and wears an unkempt mop of brown hair that typically hangs in his eyes. His is seldom seen without a mischievous grin and frequently opts not to wear his uniform, claiming that he hates the way it rides up around the groin. Still, his oft-unseen uniform is the standard uniform, save that it has short sleeves and short legs.

Biography: Buddy Kiriakis believes he was destined to be small. He was born in one of the smallest cities in Greece (population 158) and on the shortest day of the year. He was always short for his age but it never bothered him. From an early age he had discovered his Neo-Sapien ability to decrease his size and when once the world was viewed from only a few inches in height being under five feet tall suddenly wasn’t such a terrible fate.

Buddy is the practical joker of the New Vindicators Academy as was one of the Rhino’s best students in the performing arts before the hero’s departure; few can resist grinning at the class clown’s antics—a skill he employs in Wreck Room exercises as well, taking down braggarts who are just a smidge too full of themselves.

That time arrived sooner than he thought: soon he and several of his classmates were facing off against the Americans in a Wreck Room exercise. Though all of his teammates were dispatched by their guests Eiron proceeded to take down three of their opponents.

The first he dropped was Lucas. After knocking the young Neo-Sapien unconscious he hefted the youth’s body and hurled it at his teammate, Gideon—the resulting impact took yet another of the Americans out of the fight. Still, Gideon was not Eiron’s target: Lloyd was.

He soon engaged the Nephilim and came out victorious, after which he forfeited the match, claiming that he had accomplished what he had intended.
