Comments: A personal favorite character of mine, El Mariachi, the Antonio Banderas version. Desperado is one my favorite “if it’s on, I have to watch it, even though I’ve seen it 100 times” movies. And of course, with Salma Hayek being about her peak of hotness, that adds to the allure as well... :)

I debated between making him PL7 or 8, but I went on the high end just for the attack bonus. He is a goon sweeping machine with the ability to really wreak some havoc with his guitar case arsenal, and his wealth of ranged feats. I wonder how he’d do in Gotham, chasing a drug lord that made his way into the Batman’s territory. Hmmm….

Update 12/13/08: As I was working on my Action Movie builds, I happened across Desperado on Encore and decided to update my El Mariachi build. The original was PL8 but 105pp so I got him up to playable level PL8. However, I couldn't really decide whether I liked him at that level or not, so I build him at PL7/105, too. :)

Comments: How could I do an Action Movie run without one of my favorites? Of course, this is John McClane from Diehard, Bruce Willis’ finest movie moment. Diehard is one of my all time favorite action movies and the main reason is McClane’s feisty, wisecracking, resourceful characterization and of course, anything Alan Rickman does rocks.

McClane is a great in a situation like he is normally put in. He’s not great shakes in melee, but he shoots well, and given the opportunity to get some automatic weapons, he can take a lot of mooks out with his high ranged bonus. And with 3 ranks of Luck, and all the complications he is sure to come up against, he will be loaded for bear with HP by the time he gets to end of an adventure.

Concept: Human Bounty Hunter/Outlaw, Wealth Bonus: +13, Renown Bonus +10
Abilities [31pp]: Strength 15 (+2), Dexterity 16 (+3), Constitution 16 (+3), Intelligence 14 (+2), Wisdom 13 (+1), Charisma 17 (+3)
Saves [15pp]: Toughness +4/+7 with Defensive Roll, Fortitude 4 (+7), Reflexes 6 (+9), Willpower 5 (+6)

Leather Outfit (+1 toughness)
Masterwork Picks
24 additional EP’s worth of Equipment and vehicles depending on her mission.
Complication: Reputation (outlaw & thief), Notoriety (Bounty Hunter)

Builder’s Notes:
Here is the Voluptuous Girl of Danger from Battle Chasers. The first note here is that these characters are larger than life, so they earn 20 pp/PL towards being built. With that out of the way, I feel it necessary to point out I wanted to Emphasis her Voluptuous nature as they do in the comic books. So.. She gains a +2 bonus to distraction attempts during combat, because of her.. Um.. Assets ;) .

Red Is no one to laugh at, and is more than capable of handling herself in combat! She’s well versed in Swordsmanship, Unarmed combat, and with guns. And she’s the one he taught Garrison how to use a sword. Though she relies heavily on her ability to dodge out of the way to avoid damage.

Keep up the Good Work J-Mart! :D

(Thorpacolypse, I just wanted to ask if you'd taken a look at Charles Phipps' HED! Megaverse thead in the settings forum.

He has a fairly badass Atlantean of three there and if you haven't taken a look I invite you to do so. It's a very awesome thread, despite my best efforts. )

Comments: Hadn’t really read much with him in it, but since I was feeling patriotic lately with Obama getting into office and all the hoopla surrounding the historic election, I felt that need to spread that patriotism around and do some characters from other countries and I’m starting with Captain Britain. In some circles he’s simply known as that hot chick with the psychic knives brother, but to most of us he’s a great hero in his own right, a combination of Captain America and Captain Marvel (from DC). He’s a national themed hero with mystical endowments from a wizard.

He’s tough, strong, smart and can lead a team, a fine combination. I may get around to PL11-ish build for him soon, but this fits him pretty from what I have seen.

Builders Notes:
And here’s Garrison from Battle Chasers, unfortunately he falls under power point costs. But I have tried to simulate him being the best swordsman that he can be with an interesting array of trained based powers. He turned out to be an interesting challenge to complete. The two things i wanted to point out was his "Dealing with Pain" power. This allows him to counter a critical hit should he expend a move action, to reset what ever damage was inflicted on him. Such as is seen when he relocates his arm in the fight with the Monk. This guy is just Bad A$$, I feel sorry for anyone who faces him. As well as his Penetrating Power Attack, which is basically just like another feat. But it doubles the penalty to hit, to add a bonus to damage and penetration ranks.

-> AP: Hammer Strike [Strike 3 (PF: Mighty, Improved Critical, Extra: Penetrating)] = 1
-> AP: Sure Strike [Strike 5 (PF: Extra: Penetrating 5, Line 1 )]
-> AP: Boost [Weather Control 6 (Extra: Total Fade)] = 1
Hard to Remove Devices 2
- Jarn Griepr “Iron Gauntlets” [Super Strength 1]
- Megingjord “Belt of Strength [Super Strength 1]
- Norse Armor [Protection +3 (Impervious)]

Builder’s Notes:
The Weather Control Array is low for a reason, because with his hammer he can boost the weather control array by 6 power points or 3 additional ranks. Which will raise all the powers in the array, for a total of 6 rounds at full strength. With the Boost your Array Powers look like this. [Lightning Bolt 5, Dazzle 3, And Environment Control 5]

You know, they just might.

However, I am having some issues with the Action Movie genre right now. I was actually going to post something in the Sidekick's Lounge for some thoughts because I am seeing a dearth of talent in the genre.

Now granted, it was never Shakespeare or anything, but it has it's place in the American movie lexicon. Either the big time action heroes are aging (Willis, Stallone, Chan, Ford) or moved on (Arnold) or not quite ready for the big time (Diesel, The Rock, Jason Statham, Brendan Fraser). That last group is good, but none of the movies they starred in have done huge bank like Diehard or Terminator or anything like that.

I mean, who are our children going to be looking to for mindless violence in the future?!?!?!?!?
