#200: Drew Jenkins, Ascended

DREW JENKINS, ASCENDED (Power Level X)

Real Name: Drew Jenkins
Height / Weight: 5'6-1/2" / 123.4 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Dirty Blonde / Green
Place of Birth: DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York (June 8, 1989 – May 27, 2007)
First Appearance: New Vindicators #1

Biography: During the White War, the New Vindicator who had been codenamed Copycat shielded one of his teammates, Tripper, during an explosion set by the Affiliation. He received terrible injuries and while he recovered from surgery his teammates learned that he was not a Neo-Sapien as they originally believed.

They learned all this from Sam White, who had been with Drew the night his powers supposedly manifested. Sam White revealed himself as one of the Fallen, Samael, and claimed to have given Drew the abilities in order to safeguard the world from Samael’s own children and something much more dangerous: Apocatastasis.

While Drew recovered, Samael went with the New Vindicators in confronting their infernal instructor. Thanks to the involvement of the Shadow, Samael lost his life and it seemed as though all hope for saving the city rested on Drew’s shoulders.

Jessica Hague, a student at the New Vindicators Academy who’s regeneration had saved her from the massacre, was brought to Drew’s bedside in hopes that his mimicry would use her abilities to bring him up to snuff. Sure enough it did, though Drew began making odd comments—he claimed that he felt like he was in the nexus of all Neo-Sapien abilities and that he felt close to godhood.

Though Drew won the battle for the heroes he lost his life doing so. Drew Jenkins’ body was laid to rest… but his story did not end there…

NEW VINDICATORS: Absit Omen – After months of appearing to Magnus Loder, Drew revealed himself to Doctor Jason Pickford, the guise used by the Fallen known as Abaddon. Drew showed himself to still be fighting against Apocatastasis from beyond the grave—a feat only made possible by Samael transferring all of his powers to Drew at the moment of his death. Though dead, Drew now had the powers the angels had and could freely cross between the afterlife and the land of the living.

NEW VINDICATORS: Et Spe – Drew helped lead the charge into the conquered New York City and took part in the battle against Apocatastasis. Following the Nephilim’s defeat, Drew used his abilities to disperse the heroes across the globe, helping them to avoid capture before ascending back into the afterlife.

Michuru81 wrote:In life Drew was Copycat, one of the PCs. In death he becomes a pain to stat as I scratched my brain trying to figure out how to represent being dead and routinely ignoring that limitation. I considered Immunity, Regeneration... ultimately I decided to run it as a single Feature--Drew can traverse Heaven, Hell and everything in between simply because Eleme--er, God, is cool with it.

In this form Drew has all of Samael's old tricks and Samael's biggest is his Transfer--he takes 20 power points from one person's powers and gives them to someone else and every eternity or so they get a point back. Trouble is once he's used it on someone they're forever immune. To date this ability has been used to take some of Apocatastasis' Mimic which Samael gave to himself until he gave it to Drew. Ages later Drew takes some of Bulwark's ability and gives it to Loess before eventually reversing the effect.

Nice build for #200 man. Certainly wouldn't want to make him angry. Stating them angel-types can be tough since most are X-stats. So looking forward to march's session. I wanna pound the party *cackle*

Introductions (and explanations) are in order... This do be Al, the player behind Amalgam/Anomaly and in the current game Gage Morris.

About a year ago we came up with the idea of running a D&D game together--I draft the story while Al handles encounters. I'm told I tell a decent tale and Al has the mind of a tactician and the rules of almost every system memorized so together we make the perfect GM.

We never got around to such a campaign but we're giving it a shot with New Vindicators #107. Essentially the PCs are sent out to bring Lex and Xander Sway to justice. I'm running the story for the session while Al here is handling the brawl between the New Vindicators and Amalgam and Anomaly.

We're both looking forward to it very much. :)

#203: Miss Multiple

Post by Michuru81 » Sun Jan 11, 2009 2:56 pm

MISS MULTIPLE (Power Level 12)

Real Name: Unknown
Aliases: Tabac Blond, Tabitha Bloom, Tara Bethesda…
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 120 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Blonde / Blue
Place of Birth: Unknown
First Appearance: Vindicators #6

Physical Appearance: Never was there a more plain-looking woman than Miss Multiple. Nothing stands out about the woman physically; her single, defining characteristic appears to be her unmistakable husky voice.

The original can be revealed by a Caesarian scar.

Biography: Tabac Blond does not show her age. Truth, she isn’t even sure what her age is. The earliest she can remember is waking up one morning in 1918 with a name that she may or may not have been born with and extremely fuzzy memories of working with a small group of Neo-Sapiens for a man known only as Doctor Bradley.

Earl Grey, Alonzo Menendez, Webley Scott and Tennessee Whiskey; those four names resounded through her memories, an echo that madly danced backwards. Unable to get them out her head she wondered over what her identity was. Why did she live in Germany? What did she do? Was she married? Did she have children? Who was she? As she pondered over those things she discovered a scar across her abdomen—a diagonal scar just under her navel. It was the telltale sign of a Caesarian section.

Where was her child?

For months she wandered through Europe, attempting to find anything that would point her in the direction she needed to look. After five years of searching, she saw it…

She saw herself.

Following the woman who looked almost identical to her, Tabac found herself in an antique shop that she apparently owned and had been operating for the last ten years. Tabitha Bloom, as her other self was called, told her about their origin. Tabac Blond was the name of an agent for the Four Humors with a frightening power: she could spawn duplicates of herself, each with their own persona, fabricated history and unique powers. Though Tabac craved more answers, Tabitha pleaded with the woman to leave before her ten-year-old son, Johann Meinstein, woke and found a woman who looked identical to his mother present in their simple home.

Tabac took to traveling the world in search of what had happened to her and why she couldn’t remember her own memories. One thing was certain: if she perceived her name to be Tabac Blond then she was not a clone spawned by the original—she was the original.

For nearly thirty years Tabac Blond traveled through Eastern Europe, looking for anything that might explain why she was unable to recall her past. For nearly thirty years she failed to age. In 1945, her attention was drawn to the news of the Fuhrer and his Fourth Reich’s attack on the world. She recognized the young man as the son of her clone and set out to try and stop him and in the process she learned of the existence of the Vindicators.

Though she failed to arrive in time to contribute to the battle against the Fuhrer she eventually met with the Vindicators and Uncle Sam recognized her as his mother. Soon she met another one of her clones: Tara Bethesda.

Though Johann had not inherited Tabitha Bloom’s Neo-Sapien power to command fire, Samuel Meinstein had received his powers from his mother.

Together, with the Vindicators, Tabac sought out the mysterious Doctor Bradley and located a lab she dimly recalled in the depths of her memories. A file they found revealed that the doctor had located and abducted five Neo-Sapiens immune to the effects of aging and had etched into their genes a fraction of a formula he sought to preserve for a coming invasion. “The Alpha,” his notes read, “may be the only weapon capable of harming Astraeus.”

Enraged over her lack of answers and the knowledge that she was someone’s pawn, Tabac flew into a violent rage and in doing so summoned five clones—each with powers comparable to those of the Vindicators. In their battle the lab was destroyed and Tabac was seemingly caught in the flames. For decades it was believed that only the Vindicators escaped unharmed.

In was in 1974 that Tabac Blond surfaced again. Attacking John Adams High School in Chicago, Illinois, she attempted to abduct one of the students—a 16-year-old Richard Jorgenson—whose morphing abilities the woman seemed to value highly in her new plot. She was thwarted by the combined efforts of four high school teachers—all Neo-Sapiens representing the four elements. It seemed that in the decade she had been missing, Miss Multiple had experienced anti-Neo-Sapien sentiments and had come to hate humanity as much as some of humanity hated her kind. Branded an NS terrorist, the Vindicators IV were formed after their initial battle with the woman—who in turn took a special interest in the leader of Vindicators IV—Doctor Kenneth Bradley, also known as Doctor Splash.

Many of her insidious plots against the IV seemed to revolve around Doctor Splash and it was soon revealed that her few memories of her past focused on the doctor’s grandfather. She claimed that the Doctor Bradley of her memories was obviously behind the creation of the Vindicators IV and that Kenneth was somehow a key into what the man had been planning for over half a century. Doctor Splash’s father also appeared as opposition to the IV; Doctor Thaddeus Bradley appeared in a moment where the IV fought both villains at once. Doctor Thaddeus Bradley was able to escape from the trap Miss Multiple had set using the doctor’s son.

Ultimately, Miss Multiple helped to bring about the end of the Vindicators IV—abducting Doctor Splash and using a machine to attempt to make the world Neo-Sapiens all on him. The machine permanently trapped him in his alternate form—forever damning him from becoming Doctor Kenneth Bradley.

As her powers enable her to create an effective counter to any Neo-Sapien, Miss Multiple has been a frequent mainstay of the Vindicators’ rogue galleries. The Vindicators who banded together in 1980 were led by Crusader, a woman Miss Multiple had fought before, and a heated rivalry sparked between the two. However, it was the Vindicators VII were she seemed to have the most impact…

Tabac had been out of the public eye for years and suddenly appeared, in the wrong place and at the wrong time, at the site of one of Mason’s attacks. In tow was a six-year-old boy whom the Vindicators assumed Miss Multiple had abducted, given what she was attempting when the Vindicators IV first encountered her. She revealed that the boy was her son and that his father was Chimera.

It seemed as though Tabac Blond had regained control of her senses and had abandoned her lifestyle as a super-powered terrorist. However she was not destined to enjoy a peaceful life raising her son, Quinton. The United States government commanded the Vindicators to bring her down, that she might be tried for her past crimes, and were even accompanied in battle by the Vindicators IV. Facing the two teams, Miss Multiple reverted to her old ways and abandoned her son.

NEW VINDICATORS: Igne Ferroque – As the New Vindicators learned of the Basileus of Aeolia’s intent to conquer Earth, the mysterious Doctor Bradley from Miss Multiple’s memories appeared and revealed himself as Asmodeus, one of the Fallen. Telling the heroes of the Alpha, Asmodeus directed the young heroes in finding the members of his century-old experiment.

Citing Miss Multiple as the hardest to bring down, Asmodeus explained that her children (hers and her clones’) were immune to each other’s powers and hers as well. He revealed that Magnus Loder, David Meinstein, Quinton Jorgenson and Khmer Wat were half-brothers and pointed them in the direction of their other siblings: Cole Bilson, Ephraim Dane, Daniel Meinstein, Clinton Murtaugh, Agatha Neswander and Felicity Tyler. The heroes gathered their siblings to their side and together managed to bring down Miss Multiple.

Michuru81 wrote:Here's Miss Multiple, one of the oft-mentioned/rarely seen villains in the OUBLIverse. Tabac's ability is quasi-Duplication: she creates a physical clone of herself but they have their own unique personality, memories, and--most importantly--powers.

The check on her abilities doesn't effect whether or not she can use it but determines the loyalty of her created dupes. She makes a clone and it may hate her and work with the heroes to fight her--they may also be fanatical and sacrifice themselves for her. Either way, given the risk she doesn't rely on the ability as much as she does her training.

The children she and her clones bring into the world (human or SPB) have Immunity 1 (siblings' powers) as have been seen in Lodestone, Portal, Blitzkrieg and Quint's builds. The original has only had two children: Quint and the unrevealed baby which gave her the identifying scar--something I'll be touching on in a later arc...

No problem. Unfortunately, it's going to be a bit before I get around to Detective and the Gum--statting Miss Multiple and frequent visits to J-Mart have inspired me to spend the next few days tackling the Vindicators' rogue galleries.

It also doesn't hurt things that in April our campaign is taking a trip back to the Golden Age and I've been forced to stat the Cold Warriors. :)

#204: Alabaster

Post by Michuru81 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 11:30 am

ALABASTER (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Nathan Styles
Height / Weight: 6’0” / 180 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Blonde / Green
Place of Birth: Las Vegas, Nevada (September 23, 1979)
First Appearance: Vindicators #570

Physical Description: Despite being the twin brother of Halogen, Nathan Styles looks nothing like his albino sister as his pigmentation is normal. Beyond that, Nathan is of average height and build with a mop of brown hair typically covered by a hat—the man is seldom seen without a hat.

Biography: When Doctor Stephen White became the Aurelius he set out to build a team of Vindicators to take the place of Crusader’s missing heroes. Still a bit of a fledgling mage himself, the man was unable to heal and set out to fill such a role he saw as being crucial.

His mystical scrying led him to a thirteen-year-old girl, Natalie Styles and her twin brother, Nathan. Both had manifested the same power their father wielded: command over light itself. Though Nathan’s focus over their ability was more broad, Natalie was capable of a talent Nathan was not: healing. Ultimately, the Aurelius coerced the Styles’ into letting their daughter join the Vindicators and in being left behind Nathan felt slighted.

The once-quiet artist became obsessed with proving that he was as good, if not better, than his sister and making the Aurelius regret his decision. As Alabaster, Nathan began to commit a string of crimes all with the intention of drawing the attention of his sister and her super-powered teammates. The Vindicators clashed with Alabaster several times over the years, each time the teenage terror was stopped by none other than his sister.

Ultimately it was when the guard had changed and a new group of Vindicators came on the scene that Alabaster was finally put down. Siphon’s ability to draw Neo-Sapien energies from his opponent and use them himself were not the only weapons the new band of heroes employed: unlike Alabaster’s twin sister, no emotional attachment prevented them from taking the villain down. The Vindicators VII ended the young man’s streak of escapes and saw him placed in Alcatraz.

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas – When Justice broke into Alcatraz, Alabaster was one of the few inmates who escaped. He surfaced a few months later, in the company of the other escapees (Mason, Nightingale, Brown Recluse, Tooth and Nail) and abducted his sister.

Before he could take revenge on Halogen he was stopped by a squadron of New Vindicators, accompanied by Michuru Bradshaw. Ultimately his own super-senses became his bane with Michuru using pyrokinesis to overload the man’s sight and temporarily blind him.

THE AFFILIATION: Ira Deorum – Following Adonis’ declaration of war on humanity, Lodestone broke into Alcatraz and made the offer all inmates (excluding the Wisent) to join him in protecting mankind from the Affiliation. Though most believed it to be a trap, a handful joined Lodestone’s team—Paroled—Alabaster amongst them.

Alabaster spent his villain career fighting the Aurelius' team of Vindicators: Phenomena, Onyx, Lodestone III, Nock and--of course--Halogen. Generally the plan is to use a Dazzle burst to blind Phenomena and Onyx and let the bricks hit ranged attackers/utility characters like Nock and Aurelius/Lodestone Jr. He's got Invisibility to get around most of them but Phenomena's heightened senses, Lodestone's radar and Halogen's infravision find him. Still, their attacks have to get around the Force Field to dent him.

Maybe when I get around to posting the rest of this team of Vindicators I'll draft up a fight for Alabaster. I really am quite fond of light controllers--way too much potential.

#205: Blaze

BLAZE (Power Level 10)

Real Name: Max Peat
Height / Weight: 5’10” / 146 lbs.
Hair / Eyes: Blonde with Red Streaks / Hazel
Place of Birth: Houston, Texas (July 17, 1976)
First Appearance: Vindicators #601

Physical Appearance: Blaze has a very neat appearance to him—he prefers to pamper himself with manicures, pedicures and is particular about who he lets cut his hair. Red streaks frame his face, but when he starts to run his medium-length hair blows back and the streaks run parallel to a pair of tattoos on the sides of his neck: twin flame trails.

Blaze’s entire wardrobe consists of red, yellow and orange clothes.

Biography: Since turning to a life of crime, those who witnessed Max’s growth and development all concur that it’s hardly a surprise he turned out the way he did. His parents tried for twelve years to conceive before finally adopting the young man and in their yearning to have a child grow up in their house they spoilt him rotten. Such an upbringing only nurtured his arrogance. He was already proud of his looks but when his Neo-Sapien powers manifested he viewed himself as a god amongst men.

He began to use his super-speed to take whatever his parents couldn’t accommodate him with—acts which led to Solar’s finding him and recruiting him into the Order of Chaos, a clan of villains who seek to prove humanity right in their claims that Neo-Sapiens are monsters.

In the order’s maiden assault the Vindicators VII banded together against them and the two groups became fierce enemies. Only Atlas, long-considered the most powerful being alive, ranked higher in the Vindicators VII’s list of rogues. Ultimately, their rivalry lasted for years before the Vindicators VII defeated the Order of Chaos and imprisoned them in Alcatraz.

NEW VINDICATORS: Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas – When Justice broke into Alcatraz he inadvertently caused the Order of Chaos’ escape from the maximum security ward.

VINDICATORS: Coup d’état – Following the defeat of Crusader’s team of ‘elite’ Vindicators, all surviving Vindicators found point values put on their heads. Competing to see who could get the most points, the Order of Chaos brazenly attacked their former prison in order to kill Professor Incendiary and Doctor Splash. Ultimately they failed thanks to the efforts of the Vindicators, the Illuminati and the Guardians. Though they failed to obtain their targets, the Order of Chaos avoided capture.

NEW VINDICATORS: Condemnant Quod Non Intellegunt – Desperately seeking firepower against Black Box, Adonis used his powers to draft the Order of Chaos to his side in his move to secure Autumn.
