Background:
Hans Krueger was one of the up and coming scientists, doctors and body-builders in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He was also obsessed with pre-Christian religion in his country and greatly identified with the heroes of old. It was this obsession that lead him to develop his body to the utmost, using the cutting edge techniques, devices, and serums he himself was developing.
His greatest achievement was that of what he called the "Sub-Atomic Waveform Converter". It took every krone he had to build the device. When the loan officers came calling for him they found his workshop empty with a large depression in the middle of the stone floor where the device had rested. Little did they or Hans know just what the machine was capable of.
When Krueger activated the Converter there was a gentle hum followed by a flash of light so intense it bleached his clothes and hair. He had placed inside the machine an apple, if the Converter worked as he had hoped it would it would have made the apple impervious to harm. Picking up the the apple he squeezed and the apple burst in his hand. In a rage he began to smash the instruments around him before throwing a hammer at the Converter. In another brilliant flash of light Krueger, the contents of his lab, and the Converter were transported to a world of endless greenery and large, horned quadrupeds. One of these animals charged Krueger in fright from the machine's coming.
With a single terrified blow Krueger felled the animal. Realizing his new found strength Krueger set about building for himself a home to house himself and the Converter. It seemed that with the right adjustments there was nothing the device couldn't do. Its most basic function was to strength or weaken materials. He could turn a simple iron breast plate into an impenetrable suit of armor, he could turn the hardest stone to mere clay. Krueger was a veritable god on this world and he began to believe it.
One storm filled night Krueger set about making his greatest creations: his impervious armor, his strength enhancing belt, the powerful metal gauntelts and most importantly his hammer. Krueger was no more he was now Donar, god of war and the raging storm. But what was a mighty god without foes? The horned beasts of Valhalla were no match for his supreme might and no matter how he searched there was no other living creature on the planet. Not in the seas, the air or in the earth itself.
In his great hall he began to remake the conditions that brought him to Valhalla originally so he could return to his homeworld. In another flash of blinding light Donar returned to the world of his birth but time had moved on. On arrival the machine burst into a thousand pieces, but Donar did not care, he was home at last. In his absence his country was shattered in the first world war of the age and was now being taken over by a new and potent political power, lead by a charismatic man who promised Germany a new age of greatest under his leadership.
Donar was deeply impressed by this man and presented himself as a champion for this new government. The National Socialist party immediately set him to work on the Russian front where Donar met his match in the powerful Soviet hero Bogatyr. Their battle raged for nine days until Donar emerged victorious. Having proven his worth Donar was sent against other powerful super-human soldiers that dared to do battle against the new Germany.
It was during the summer of 1943 that Donar began to see strange lines of smoke rising over the country-side. Investigating he found a nightmare on earth. A group of men had taken the uniforms of his proud nation's army and were using them to rob, kill, and enslave thousands of people. His hammer struck down these evil men and Donar set these poor people free after contacting the special police to return them to their homes. The people looked up in awe as their savior took to the skies never to be seen again by them.
Despite the great power wielded by Donar he was only one man and soon the enemies of the Third Reich encroached upon their cities gaining victory after victory. It was during the invasion of Normandy that the German people, the entire world, needed him most and Donar rose to the occasion. The great noise the invading ships had created had awoken Jörmungandr, the great devouring serpent of the world. It was with great sadness that Donar left the armies of the Reich to fend for themselves as he dealt with this far greater threat to mankind. Locked in combat against the great serpent Donar was victorious but was soon after felled by the beast's venom, sinking deep beneath the waves.
It wasn't until the new millennium dawned that Donar was awakened from his death-like slumber. A deep sea diving expedition looking for a lost ship from the Normandy Invasion found the slumbering demi-god and accidentally awoke him. Rocketing out of the chilly ocean Donar immediately set out for the beaches of Normandy not realizing the time that had pasted. As he read the memorials and toured through the countries that were occupied under the Nazi's Donar began to understand what he had been fighting for. For some months he contemplated casting himself back into the watery embrace of the ocean but he knew that would serve no good purpose. He found by reading and watching the news that many monsters now stalked the world. And as he saw it, none were mightier or more fearsome than the strange, fey like creature the
Red Horse. Not only was this being incredible, almost supernaturally, loved by children (and some adults) around the world but that this creature also wielded a magic staff that gave it power rivaling Donar's. And deep inside Donar the man that was Hans Kreuger remembered his scriptures:
Revelation 6:4 - "And there went out another
horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword."
So Donar now sets out to do battle with the terrible beast. He will emerge victorious!
