Voltron, 5 Lion version. I read the previews of Mecha & Manga... This is done without that particular book though (even though I used a previewed feat). I’m looking forward to getting Mecha and Manga and I intend to rework the build once I purchase it...

Astute analysis of the build will note an overpayment on the Progression within the Gestalt Power. As the default assumption is two components, one rank of Progression would make for five components, but I have two ranks in Progression... I’m cheating and will explain later as I build the lions.

Although I’m about to open myself up to really bad jokes and ridicule… I’m not entirely satisfied with the size – I think that the combined form is too short coming in at a mere three stories and change tall. Don’t know my intentions there. For now, 48 feet will be the benchmark for my mecha style builds. Either that or using a system that puts mechas such as this on a different size scale than people (which I think is even the case). A car would be medium size even though it’s larger than a person. I’ll wait to get Mecha and Manga before tweaking any further.

I find myself asking – not because I need the points – whether or not being unable to form Voltron without all five lions merits a drawback. Considering that you need to spend power points in order to be able to form from anywhere and the default assumption is that all components are always present... it does make a certain sense. Then again, perhaps a simple complication would be better suited than a drawback. Mind you, an episode of Voltron has the Blue Lion leg separating/ falling off…

The lions will be built on Pl 8/ 120 points per the Gestalt rank. Individual pilots will likely not pay for the Lions as devices. I foresee the characters essentially being “replaced” by the Lion that they’re piloting from a game mechanic standpoint so there’s no real need to pay for the Mechas as devices.

I built the Lion Head attack into the same array as the Flight and Damage Arrays. There are two reasons here. Cost of the build being primary, and that the other attacks were never used at the same time as the Lion Heads. Having spent 6 points from the array still enables Voltron to fly in this build. The other vast array of powers that are used in the show are summed up by the variable descriptor feat and power stunts.

Having said that, I put a Dynamic Mimic into the Strength Array to be able to copy the individual lions’ signature powers without spending a HP.

My inner geek has always screamed that this thing needed to be piloted by Thundercats. Since I actually wrote campaign guidelines for a Thundercats series, I may stat a Voltron Force composed of Thundercats... (Who are we kidding here… we all know that I’m already working on them.)

One thing about the genre though, specifically in regards to builds like this one is that I really can’t see how Voltron would make for a good game. A good comic and cartoon, yes. But I can’t see myself wanting to be playing the pilot of a leg while my buddy was controlling the actual mecha...
