A friend of mine who has watched several of them says that the show has a 'European culture is just wrong in every way. Robin became enlightened by the Moors when he was in the middle east with the crusades and now fights to topple the evil English system' feel to it. Please tell me that this is not the case, or at least an exaggeration.

I'm afraid he's correct about Robin "Fighting to topple the evil English system" bit.

Well, Robin's always fought to topple the corrupt. But what does this version want to replace them with?

I'm not certain. I stopped watching quite early, when I finally concluded that they'd gone a bit too Kevin Costner for my taste.

it is sort of the case. Take your classic Robin Hood, now bleed in the current European feel toward the war and muslims and shake vigorously. If you can ignore the obvious political jabs thrown in by the writers then the show is still pretty good IMHO. Overall Robin fights the English who are over taxing the populance under the guidance of the Sherrif. Marianne works within the system while Robin works outside of it. The characters I find compelling and some eps are really good while others are mediocre.

season 2 ended just before xmas last year over here in the uk with a 2 parter that ends with the death of a major character and the possibilty of a new darker direction for the show as a result. ive yet to hear if theres gonna be a third season though so maybe not.

aparently its one of the bbc's most popular exports worldwide though.

I managed to stick it through to the first half of episode 3 in season 1 before I gave it up as a bad job. Never watched it since.

imo season 2 is way better than the first season, they do more with the concept and its abit darker than the first(well as dark as u can get for a 7pm time slot) the sheriff also has a plan and agenda this year which is fairly good if abit badly executed, the first episode of season 2 sucks though so maybe miss that ep lol

liked the above poster said season two has a completely different feel and is better than season one so far. You might want to give it another shot.

For various reasons, I've considered giving this another shot. Is it worth my time?

Not in my opinion. Watch Errol Flynn swash his buckle instead or, if you feel Anglophile try and track down the old Richard Greene series, or more particularly the movie Sword of Sherwood Forest.
