HISTORY
In the early 1700's an eccentric old man contacted one of the premier watchmakers in France, with a very unique request. The old man placed a small chest of gold coins on the watchmaker's table and asked for him to craft a clockwork mannequin. The mannequin had very specific design requirements set forth by the old man. The old man provided all the funding that the watchmaker needed. The only restriction that the old man placed on the watchmaker was his silence. The work started and slowly the construction formed up.

After many months of work, the watchmaker was starting to ask questions. He wanted to find out what the mannequin was for and so he went to the old man's house to speak with him. He entered the old man's house. He found him slumped over this desk asleep. The watchmaker saw papers spread over the desk. He glanced at them and realized that they were arcane in nature. He was afraid of the implications of the paperwork and immediately ran out of the house to tell the church authorities. The slam of the front door awoke the old man in time for him to see the watchmaker quickly walking down the street. In a moment the old man was able to piece the circumstances together. He became afraid and so he quickly grabbed the needed supplies for his plans and went to the watchmaker's house. The old man had planned to install a special gem in the head of the mannequin into which he was going to transfer his consciousness into it through an arcane ceremony. His goal was to give himself immortality. He made it to the watchmaker's house and got to work. He found that the mannequin's face was not complete and so he grabbed a mask from the shelf and attached it. He started the ceremony and it started to work.... he could feel his consciousness slipping into the mannequin. He let a smile drift across his dry lips.
Suddenly, the door flew open and the watchmaker came into his house. The watchmaker pulled a hammer from his bench and struck the old man. The old man dropped to the floor.... dead. The watchmaker ran from his house to call for the authorities. Upon his return, the old man's body was still present, but the mannequin was gone.

The transfer of consciousness was not completed and the mannequin only received a shadow of the total personality. The mannequin had vague thoughts and memories but the true personality of the old man... including his identity... was lost.

PERSONALITY
Over time, the mannequin has continued to evolve and has created a new personality. Without the memories of humanity, it has a cold, emotionless and some say brutal personality/appraoch to life. When it decides to pursue a situation, it does so with a single-minded drive. It does not care what it does so long as the end result is performed.... as if people were just cogs in a giant machine. It does not speak, normally, however it is capable of speech, compliments of later up-grades that it has made to itself.

APPEARANCE
The mannequin is 6 ft in height and weighs and impressive 290 lbs. He is clad in 1700's-period French dress including a wig and an ornate carved mask that has a sinister expression on it's face. There is a near-constant barely-audible sound of whirring gears and clicking levels and such. It's movements tend to appaear rigid and not as flexible as a normal human, but this belies the fact that it is very strong and agile.

Harper Bercilak spent his youth on his family's sprawling estate in the countryside. The local workers would tell stories of history of the area, including the tales of the Green Chapel, the legendary home of the Green Knight of Authurian legend. Early one spring morning, Harper set out to see if he could find the Green Chapel. Deep within the woods, he came to a clearing that he did not remember seeing before. At one side of the clearing there was a fallen tree that formed, what looked like a large wooden thrown. A small brook ran through the middle of the clearing with crystal clear water. Harper cupped out some water with his hand and drank. It was cool and refreshing. The entire area was eerily quiet. As it was near lunch time, Harper pulled out his lunch and looked around for a place to sit. He opted to sit in the "throne". He sat down and ate his lunch. At some time, he fell asleep. He dreamed of a large meeting hall, a large table with knights and a Green Knight.
Harper awoke with a startle when he heard somebody call his name. He looked around but did not see anybody. He looked at his watch and realized that he had been asleep for hours. He gathered his stuff and prepared to leave. As he was walking out a glint off of something metal caught his attention. It came from a small pool at the top of the brook. He walked over to the pool and looked in. He could see something in the bottom of the pool. He saw his reflection on the surface of the water, but for an instant he thought he saw an armored warrior behind him. He spun around and found nobody. He looked back into the pool and saw a small metal handle, wrapped in leather and metal braid. He reached into the pool but found that it was freezing cold, he hand started to go numbe the second he plunged it in. He bit his lip and pushed down deeper. Suddenly his hand touch metal. He grabbed hold and started to pull. The metal was part of a handle of an ornately crafted axe. As Harper held it he started to feel an "energy" from the axe, as if it were humming. He swung the axe and it flew with lightning speed and split a large log with ease. Harper's mind raced with questions. Was this the axe of the Green Knight? Harper did not know what to do so he wrapped the axe in an old shirt and took it home.
Over the next weeks, Harper returned to the clearing and practiced with the axe. As fall and then winter came, Harper found it harder to return to the clearing. The following spring, he went back into the woods and found the clearing again. The following summer was spent practicing and training himself. He prepared himself physically and mentally for the future. For the first time in his life, he had a desire... a drive to push him.
Harper was sent away to a boarding school, where all the members of his family had gone. Everyday, he dreamt of the clearing and longed to get back to it. After graduation, Harper returned to the clearing. He was now a young adult. Harper stood in the middle of the clearing, practicing with the axe. As had happened so long ago, he was startled with the sound of somebody calling his name. He spun around and found a man in armor behind him. The man hefted a large axe and swung it at Harper. Harper raised his own axe to defend himself only to find that he was only holding a large wood branch. The branch splintered and Harper dove for cover. The knight stepped out of the shadows and into the light. It wore a suit of intricately etched and worked armor that gave the impression of the armor being made of leaves and twigs and such. The knight swung again and again. Harper's mind was racing and then he remembered one of the stories that he had been told when he was younger. He stopped and stood in-front-of the armored knight. The knight swung it's axe at Harper. The blade sung through the air but stopped a fraction of an inch from Haprer's head. The knight took a step back and nodded to him. Vines suddenly burst forth from the ground surrounding the wooden "throne" and the armor was pulled apart and drug back to the "throne". The pieces were neatly stacked by the "throne" with the helmet resting in the middle of the seat. Harper went to the armor and picked it up... His courage had been tested and he had passed... the armor was his.

Later Harper made some additions to the armor, such as the addition of a a radio, but the suit's abilities continue to grow and evolve as Harper serves as the Green Knight. Lady Britania met with and recruited Harper shortly after the founding of the Protectors.

This is the second incarnation of the Sky Stable, the high flying mobile head-quarters of the Horseman. The aircraft is the Russian-built An-225-100. It is the largest aircraft today. The cost made it prohibitive for the failing Russian government to build/maintain. Jason was able to buy one and retro-fitted it for his own needs.

The engines were retro-fitted with ultra-high-output engines that are electrically driven. The craft utilizes high-effiecency solar collectors and internal batteries to produce the needed power. This also gives the craft nearly unlimited flight time.

The inside was rebuilt to house a machine shop, living quarters and a large computer mainframe. If needed, Jason could transfer total information to the 'Stable and it could become the center of his business world. It incorporates an advanced communications suite that allows for global communications by using satellites and ground relays.

Also housed in the 'Stable are several of the Horseman's other suits, including the large Horseman MaxLoad armor.

Jason spends a great deal of his time in the new 'Stable as it allows him a private place to think and design.

The craft is also designed with advanced cloaking technology that makes it invisible to radar. When approaching major cities for landing, this unit is disabled to allow ground-based air-traffic control to safely land the craft.

Wow.... Somebody actually looked at my thread.... and Commented.

Thanks for the kind words...

I periodically update the characters and give them new toys. The Sky Stable II was an idea that I had for a while.

Interesting headquarters idea. I just statted up a similar aerial HQ for a character I'm working on -- but that was a zeppelin. Nice illustration by the way -- where did you come by that?

I google'd "world'd largest aircraft" and found the aircraft pic. I liked it and so I used it.

I was looking at this as a potential vehicle.... but I just think it is a little ...... extreme...

wow

I can see why you went with the big jet. That battleship would have been a little harder to fly without attracting attention.

And try explaining to the Superhero Union that a battleship is for home defence only.

Nope.... Not Yamato.

It is a "What If" for a S.H.I.E.L.D. "Helicarrier" or more specific... a Heli-battleship. If S.H.I.E.L.D. were to deploy these... it might be very interesting...

The more I think about it... the more I like the idea of having them deployed. Imagine this hovering over the Freedom City harbor.
