HISTORY
In the early 1700's an eccentric old man contacted one of the premier watchmakers in France, with a very unique request. The old man placed a small chest of gold coins on the watchmaker's table and asked for him to craft a clockwork mannequin. The mannequin had very specific design requirements set forth by the old man. The old man provided all the funding that the watchmaker needed. The only restriction that the old man placed on the watchmaker was his silence. The work started and slowly the construction formed up.
After many months of work, the watchmaker was starting to ask questions. He wanted to find out what the mannequin was for and so he went to the old man's house to speak with him. He entered the old man's house. He found him slumped over this desk asleep. The watchmaker saw papers spread over the desk. He glanced at them and realized that they were arcane in nature. He was afraid of the implications of the paperwork and immediately ran out of the house to tell the church authorities. The slam of the front door awoke the old man in time for him to see the watchmaker quickly walking down the street. In a moment the old man was able to piece the circumstances together. He became afraid and so he quickly grabbed the needed supplies for his plans and went to the watchmaker's house. The old man had planned to install a special gem in the head of the mannequin into which he was going to transfer his consciousness into it through an arcane ceremony. His goal was to give himself immortality. He made it to the watchmaker's house and got to work. He found that the mannequin's face was not complete and so he grabbed a mask from the shelf and attached it. He started the ceremony and it started to work.... he could feel his consciousness slipping into the mannequin. He let a smile drift across his dry lips.
Suddenly, the door flew open and the watchmaker came into his house. The watchmaker pulled a hammer from his bench and struck the old man. The old man dropped to the floor.... dead. The watchmaker ran from his house to call for the authorities. Upon his return, the old man's body was still present, but the mannequin was gone.
The transfer of consciousness was not completed and the mannequin only received a shadow of the total personality. The mannequin had vague thoughts and memories but the true personality of the old man... including his identity... was lost.
PERSONALITY
Over time, the mannequin has continued to evolve and has created a new personality. Without the memories of humanity, it has a cold, emotionless and some say brutal personality/appraoch to life. When it decides to pursue a situation, it does so with a single-minded drive. It does not care what it does so long as the end result is performed.... as if people were just cogs in a giant machine. It does not speak, normally, however it is capable of speech, compliments of later up-grades that it has made to itself.
APPEARANCE
The mannequin is 6 ft in height and weighs and impressive 290 lbs. He is clad in 1700's-period French dress including a wig and an ornate carved mask that has a sinister expression on it's face. There is a near-constant barely-audible sound of whirring gears and clicking levels and such. It's movements tend to appaear rigid and not as flexible as a normal human, but this belies the fact that it is very strong and agile.
