Complications: Reputation (Red Skull's right hand)

 I'm not too pleased into making Crossbones one PL higher than Bullseye, but it was an unavoidable consequence of making Cap PL12 and DD PL9. The only thing I can add to my defense is that Cross bones need to be armed to reach his full caps, while all that Bullseye need his to grab the nearest object so this compensate a little

 anyway Crossbones is a monster fighter, especially given the fact that he has no kind of superhuman aid, he's simply a massive lean and mean killing machine. Obviously Cap is superior to him, but only as long as he can use his shield, without it they are evenly matched

 like his usual boss, the Red Skull, 'Bones lack almost any redeeming feature, so his quite difficult to gave him any complication

 the Sneak attack feat is intented for the ranged attacks, since 'Bones already hit his caps in melee

 over the years he demonstarted a noticeable ability to brainwash people, so I guess that a Task Focus was an appropriate touch

 SOlved the PL problem with the Punisher and Daredevil by reducing 'Bones ranged attack, he remains a close combat machine, but now sucks a little at ranged combat

Always loved Crossbones. He looked cool, and his sheer SIZE made him intimidating in the Cap books. The artists always drew him about as muscular as a human could get, so he looked like Brock Lesnar. Against anyone other than Cap, he was scary. He even beat up Superpro one time :).

I loved Crossbones back in the Cap books.
But what I found even better was your Red Skull build.
This is real scary.
Now that reminds me of one story where Red Skull (actually one of his clones) fought for underworld leadership against our most beloved lard-ass Kingpin.
And Kingpin won.

Could I trouble you to see your take on, in my opinion, the greatest and meanest mob boss in New York?

Thanks Crossbones was also one of my favourite jobber villains. What really scared me was how long took the Marvel to get Cap a fixed sparring partner.

I remember that confrontation, it was the final issue of "City Under Ice" one of my favoutire stories during the Mark Gruenwald Cap run. During the same story there were a lot of other funny match between character from Cap's books and from Daredevil's. Including a final confrontation between Cap stripped of the Serum against Crossbones, where Cap had to play extra dirt to beat 'Bones.

I actually replayed the Skull-Kingpin match, and it worked pretty well and, despite the higher PL, the Skull had big troubles. He couldn't punch hard enough to bypass Fisk's toughness without a SneaK attack and, as soon as Fisk was able to land a hand on him, he has big trouble getting out of grapples.

Ooops, ashes on my head, i simply overlooked the page. Must have skipped it by accident.

Nice build, though I really think Kingpin should be PL 10. I also remember a Batman/DD crossover book I had. Scarecrow had come to New York trying to muscle in on Kingpin's turf. It ended in a slugout in the statue of Liberty; Scarecrow vs. The Man without fear on the torch, while Batman was fought to a standstill by Kingpin in the staircase.
I especially loved the ending. DD defeated Scarcrow, Kingpin made his escape, taunting the heroes to see them in court if they were willing to drop their masks.

I know that the whole DD series of builds are quite low PL but, aside from the fact that I doesn't consider any company crossover canon (with the partial exception of JLA/Avengers), my idea was that Daredevil, Bullseye and Kingpin are essentialy the top dogs in a street level campaign, so PL9 is high enough. PL10 is in my opinion the level that sets you on the delicate line between being street level ad being a fully recognized hero, one that is usually involved in cosmic scale disasters.

Plus the real perks of Kingpin aren't his physical power, which is quite high anyway, but rather his ability to orchestrate everything keeping his hands clean. Any hero can smash into his house and beat him into submission but, unless everyone starts to apply Punisher's solutions, this won't do them any good.

Thanks JD, I hope to be able to pull out some more in a while.

Very nice run of Marvel Villains you got going there Woodclaw. You must have been reading my mind though cause I was just looking for people's takes on Bullseye and also for examples of the "Inherent Arrays" option from W&W in use and here I get both in one character! :D.
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

#127 Marvel Essentials: Elektra

Postby Woodclaw » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:54 am

Last member of the unholy trinity, godmother of all the bad girls and minus one to my current Marvel street level builds streak.

Image
In college we were lovers. Now we are enemies. It is that simple.

Elektra
Elektra Natchios

Power Level: 9 (160pp)

Abilities: STR: 16 (+3), DEX: 20 (+5), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 18 (+4), CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Acrobatics 7 (+12), Bluff 7 (+10), Climb 5 (+8), Concentration 6 (+10), Disable Device 5 (+7), Escape Artist 7 (+12), Gather Information 5 (+8), Intimidate 6 (+9), Knowledge (history) 5 (+7), Knowledge (streetwise) 8 (+10), Language 2 (English, Japanese; Native: Greek), Medicine 1 (+5), Notice 4 (+8), Profession (assassin) 8 (+12), Search 6 (+8), Sense Motive 6 (+10), Sleight of Hand 4 (+9), Stealth 7 (+12), Survival 4 (+8), Swim 5 (+8)

Feats: Ambidexterity, Assessment, Attack specialization 1 (Sai), Improved critical 1 (Sai), Improved initiative 1, Two-handed attack, Twin weapon strike

Challenges: Accelerate stealth 1, Slip between covers 2, Vanishing

Ninjutsu (fighting style): Acrobatic bluff, Blind-fight, Defensive attack, Defensive roll 3, Defensive throw, Dodge focus 5, Evasion 1, Improved block 1, Improved concealment, Improved Feint, Improved throw, Move-by action, Power attack, Sneak attack 1

Powers:

Hand mental training (Array 6; PF: Alternate power 3; 15pp)
- Base power: Super-senses 5 (Communication link [Mental, to other people with similar training], Danger sense [Mental], Tracking 2 [Mental], Uncanny dodge 1 [Mental])
- AP: Concealment 10 (All senses; PF: Close range; Flaw: Passive, Tiring)
- AP: Illusion 6 (All senses; Flaw: Phantasm, Tiring)
- AP: Mind reading 6 (Extra: Duration 1 [Sustained], Sensory link; Flaw: Tiring)

Equipment:

Weapons (Array; 14ep)
- Paired bladed sai (+1 piercing damage; Crit 19; 10' [throwing weapon]; Mighty, Improved disarm 1, Weapon bind)
- Katana (+3 slashing damage; Crit 19; Adaptable, Mighty)
- Shuriken (+1 piercing damage; crit 20; 20' [throwing weapon]; Autofire 1)

1ep in mission specific equipment

Combat: Attack +10 (+12 with Sai); Damage +3 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +12 (+4 Flat-footed); Initiative +9

Saves: Toughness +6 (+3 Flat-footed), Fortitude +6, Reflex +8, Will +8

Abilities 40 + Skills 27 (108 ranks) + Feats 34 + Powers 15 + Combat 34 + Saves 10 + Drawbacks 0 = 160

Complications: Enemy (The Hand), Love (Daredevil), Reputation (Assassin)

 ok this take on Elektra is not 100% kosher with the other builds of her on the ATT, she came out overpointed respect to Bullseye and Daredevil, but this is an unfortunate byproduct of her mind powers

 rather than going for the "World greatest ninja" style of build I preferred to make her on par with her male colleagues, given her level of skill, her feats and her mind powers to help she can stealth upon almost everyone

 while I was tempted to gave her the dual wileding feat fot the Sai, but I decided to restratin and make her a full fledged two weapon fighter

 I decided not to gave her Attractive since Elektra is usually portrayed as quite cold, controlled and detached (except around DD), and her opponents are rarely susceptible to physical beauty, so I don't think she deserves it

 my adaptable feature/power feat had been modified a little

New Feature: Adaptable

Only melee weapons can select this option, the weapon can be used with one or two hands. If used with two hands the damage increase by +1 and gives a +1 bonus to the block rolls.

Complications: Enemy (all of New York criminals and more), Obsession (getting rid of crime), Reputation (Psycho vigilante)

 last of my Marvel street level builds for a while, this is a old school Punisher, back from the days of the War Journal, no angelic powers, no resurrection freaks and no Garth "violence is funny" Ennis

 once again a major headache and a little disappointment, Castle is fine at PL9, placing him on-par with DD and Kingpin, but I hate to think of him as inferior to Crossbones, matter of fact Castle get two major advantages over 'Bones, he is better at long range and a better tactician, the problem is that they are two character from the same mold, so they are bound to be very similar

 given the fact that his paired SMG cost a total of 24ep, Castle can easily arm himself with any kind of grenades/explosive or other heavy ordnance

 like Batman I decided to link part of his Fearsome presence to the costume, like IK did

 on a more personal note, I always had a strange problem with the Punisher for a matter of names, believe it or not my real name translated in English is Francis Castles

 UPDATE: forgot to inlude the warehouse HQ and his old dual Uzi stunt, sorry...

 ok the Mandarin was a nightmare to stat out, even more than Doom or Magneto, for one simple reason: his blasted rings

 it's not a secret that over the years he had done some pretty impressive tricks with the rings, given that almost all of them can be used to project some kind of offensive effect etc. To simplify as much as possible I decided to follow Taliesin's steps and stat the whole set as a single device arraying the various powers, as a twist I deiced to make the whole array dynamic and wide, leaving the removal/reduction of certain efect to the GM discretion

 another way was Jab's stating out each ring as an individual device, but I preferred not to do it, since the whole thing looked too complicated and involved a high degree of overlaying

 to leave some room for temporary effects and other trick, not to mention to gave him a way to reach his caps I added a power reserve as part of his Makluan physiology, given the years of experience with Makluan tech generally and the rings specifically he can squeeze any ounce of power and tricks out of them

 I'm not too happy about arraying his Chi powers with the ring user powers, but the alternative was too expensive

 Loki was another tough build, basicly he is a magic user - which is usually something of a problem - plus, he is hundreds of years old, a shapeshifter and he is also a decent level powerhouse because of his Asgardian/Frost giant heritage, so he ended up costing almost as much as Doom

 I admit that at first I wasn't a big fan of Wide arrays, but the rule is growing on me, especially to represent villains with a massive number of tricks or very poorly defined abilities

 I decided to gave my Loki some hints of his Eddic counterpart, so I made his main attck based on mystical fire and left his shapeshifting abilities outside his magical array. The Shapeshifting power also takes care of handling the various level of strength and stamina that he displayed during the years

 the Reflective effect represent Loki mastery over mystic arts, against low level spellcaster he can simply ignore their efforts usually tricking them into hitting themselves with their own spells

 the Marvel Loki has used tons of implements to boost his powers during the years, but until recently the sword Lævateinn, that the Edda ascribed to him, was missing. For those who want to include it these are my stats. Keep in mind that using the Power Reserve the magical array became almost a variable power, since Loki can use the 2 extra pp to add a temporary dynamic powers to the structure

Lævateinn (Device 2 [Easy to lose]; PF: Eternal; 7pp)
Traits:
- Strike 2 (PF: Affect insubstantial 1, Improved critical 1, Incurable, Mighty, Variable descriptor 2 [Any magical])
- Mystic focus (Power reserve 1 [Asgardian magic, Mystic senses])

 UPDATE: I just reworked the Astral form, giving it the feedback flaw, I'm not sure if this is Kosher with the rules, but at least it isn't as blatantly against as my last attempt
