Justicar wrote:Hey, Taliesin. What's the Sustained Damage on Ronan's Weapon from and how's it work exactly?

Because it's a Side-Effect, it affects the person using the weapon as long as he is holding it. The Accuser Armor protects Ronan from taking damage from the weapon by buying off the Side-Effect.

Hey Tal, kind of a follow up to Justicar's question. How would you handle a device that has a booby-trap effect to it that affects anyone who isn't the owner of a device. You know something thats not detrimental to the owner of the weapon but is to someone who isn't familiar with it. Kind of like Blade's sword had in the movie or Batman's suit has in some comics.

So it would be different in each of those examples.

For Batman's suit, the booby-trap occurs while the suit is in Batman's possession. You could buy it with the Device's pool of points. It would be a Reaction Damage effect, unless he had to set it each time, in which case a Triggered Damage would suffice.

For Blade's sword, it's something that takes effect even when it's not in Blade's possession. This makes it a little trickier, since you can't exactly buy it with the Device traits, which should only activate in someone's possession. I would do it pretty similar to Ronan's Universal Weapon: make it a Side-Effect that activates if a check (say, Disable Device) fails. Blade can buy it off directly with points, but someone else would have to make the check.

I was just browsing through some of your older builds, Tal, and was wondering if it would make sense to give the Variable Descriptor Power Feat to characters like Vivi and Garnet with their magic, or if that wouldn't fit for some reason.

Well, if it's something like Vivi being able to use the four classical elements for his blast, yeah, that would be a good fit.

Yea those would work really well, lot less complicated than what I was trying to come up with! :D

So you have any builds/updates planned for us?

Yeah I'm gonna put in for some more requests myself :-P

Here's my top 11 list if you can get to any of them.

1.) D from Vampire Hunter D
2.) Link from the Zelda series
3.) The new characters coming up in Super Street Fighter 4
4.) Michael Weston from Burn Notice
5.) Vic Mackey from the Shield
6.) Mongul
7.) The Key http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_%28comics%29
8.) Aliens
9.) Predator
10.) Manchester Black
11.) Hydroman

Edit: Noticed you didn't have a Hydroman so I added him as a number 11..lol

Who’s game for some Mongulian Beef?

Mongul
Son of Mongul

Power Level: 14 (253pp)

Abilities: STR: 44 (+17), DEX: 14 (+2), CON: 44 (+17), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Concentration 8 (+10), Intimidate 16 (+19), Knowledge [Life Sciences] 8 (+10)

Feats: Benefit 2 (Instill Great Fear 2 [buys off Psyche Break]), Improved Initiative, Leadership, Startle

Add the Dynamic power feat to Create Object, Blast, Dazzle, Summon, and Telekinesis (5pp)

Qwardian Power Ring (80pp total)

Combat: Attack +11; Damage +10 [+17] (Blast) / +17 (Unarmed); Defense +11 (+6 flat-footed); Initiative +6

Abilities 86 + Skills 8 (32 ranks) + Feats 4 + Powers 101 + Combat 44 + Saves 10 - Drawbacks 0 = Total 253

Complications: Rivalry (Sinestro)

 There’s a bit of a preamble to describe the power rings, which I won’t duplicate here. I probably should have a separate entry for reference, but for the moment, my Sinestro build describes the ring’s functions in greater detail.

 Mongul already possesses Life Support and his ring’s Force Field doesn’t stack with his own Toughness due to PL restrictions. Therefore, he doesn’t actually benefit from those powers, and this reduces the cost he pays for his Qwardian power rings.

 Mongul wields several power rings (six at last count). Normally, this has little game effect, except possibly to reduce the frequency with which he needs to recharge. However, Mongul’s battle injuries have allowed him to anatomically separate his left arm. The power rings on that arm may be separately activated. I’ve applied a +1 Affects Others modifier on Mongul’s power rings to represent this benefit.

 The Qwardian Power Ring is a Minion and treated as a construct. This also means that in the event that Sinestro Corpsman is separated from his power ring, the ring itself may assume control. In general, the powers that the Corpsman can access directly or with a thought are bought within the Device, whereas the powers that require him to verbally inquire the ring (e.g., “Ring, scan for sentients”) are bought by the minion.

Qwardian Power Ring (Minion Rank 10)

Abilities: STR: -- (--), DEX: 20 (+5), CON: -- (--), INT: 20 (+5), WIS: 10 (+0), CHA: 10 (+0)

Skills: Computers 12 (+17), Knowledge [Civics] 12 (+17), Notice 12 (+12), Search 12 (+17), Sense Motive 12 (+12)

Feats: Assessment, Benefit (use Computers skill for Gather Information checks), Contacts, Eidetic Memory, Well-Informed

Powers:
Comprehend 3 (Languages 3 [speak, understand, read any]; Extra: Affects Others [+1]; 9pp)
Datalink 20 (Flaw: Limited [to Sinestro Corps database only; -1]; 10pp)
Flight 8 (2,500 MPH; 16pp)
Immunity 30 (Fortitude effects; 30pp)
Illusion 1 [Environmental Playback] (Visual and Auditory; Flaw: Limited [to playback; -1]; Power Feat: Progression 2 [area; 25 ft. radius]; 4pp)
Morph 1 (any object; 3pp)
Protection 16 (16pp)
Quickness 6 (x100; Flaw: One Type [mental; -1]; 3pp)
Shrinking 20 (Extra: Continuous [+1]; Flaw: Permanent [-1]; Power Feat: Innate; 21pp)
Space Travel 1 (Power Feats: Antimatter Transport, Hyperspace; 3pp)
Super-Senses 14 (Danger Sense [mental], Detect Life 2 [mental; Acute], Electromagnetic Awareness 3 [mental; Acute, Analytical], Spatial Awareness [Extended 2], Time Sense; 16pp)

Combat: Attack +0 [+12; size]; Damage +0; Defense +0 [+12; size]; Initiative +5

Saves: Toughness +16 [+11; size], Fortitude --, Reflex +10, Will +0

Drawbacks: Disability (no hands; Common, Major; -4pp)

Abilities 0 + Skills 15 (60 ranks) + Feats 5 + Powers 128 + Combat 0 + Saves 5 - Drawbacks 4 = Total 149

Talesin, you've once more made a beautiful power ring, and then gave it to someone who could void the bowels of most sentient beings even without the ring.

Excellent job!

Hi Taliesin,

A quick post to say that I didn't forget you... But life has been rather chaotic here and I've been quite busy. I'll be back soon with more PDF though :)

Hey,

I was just looking at your Professor X build, and I had a couple questions:

What exactly does Super Sense: Mental do? In what circumstances is it used? How is it different from Mental Awareness?

What does the power feat Rapid do? Where can it be found?

Thanks.

I don't know what Taliesin mean with Mental (which usually is a sense type), but the Rapid option is on Ultimate Power, it allows a sense with it to function a greater speed, it is essentialy one rank of Quickness with a Limited [single task] flaw applied.

It's not Super Sense (Mental)--it's the application of the Accurate and Ranged modifiers to his mental sense.
