@Vampguy: I'm going to keep recruitment up for a few days. I'll announce an official close as I get a better time frame on the builds that have been being worked on since the beginning of recruitment.

@Reaper: Ah, nice that they are just physically superior, but not superhumanly so. I like that.

@Lord Fell: That's fine. And the shift toward power does seem appropriate for her lack of experience.

@Fatty: I haven't gone into detail on your build, but I like the first glance. A good concept that you don't see too often on these, or other, boards. I'm interested in learning about him.

Postby Jameson » Sun May 09, 2010 5:36 pm

here's the bio data. stats are in work and should be coming tonight or tomorrow eve.

Name: Carter Linwood
Nicknames: Flux, formerly Tesseract
Age: 28
Race: White
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: ~165
Concept: Displaced refugee from a mirror universe

Personality: Carter is an intense man used to a world where the worst in humanity was the rule not the exception. Now stuck on our Earth, Carter seeks to continue his old occupation while also trying to enjoy the fruits of a world where right is more common than wrong. Carter is otherwise a fairly likable fellow who tends to be a little out of touch as nearly all of his cultural touchstones are backwards, Ghostbusters was a horror movie, the Saw series are a farce, Gladiator was a science fiction epic and more.

Appearance: Tall and somewhat good looking with auburn hair and blue eyes. Carter possesses a thin wiry frame that allows him to move swiftly with superb agility.

Background: Carter Linwood was a bad man. Murdered, thief, traitor, and more, he was the kind of monstrously evil human who owned the title of Super-villain. Carter finally murdered, stole, and betrayed his way to the personal attention of the hero, Arcanos. With his powerful sorcery and array of magical tools and allies Arcanos personally led the hunt for Linwood, who was known by the moniker Tesseract. After days and weeks of chasing the space warping Tesseract intermixed with running battles and horrific loss of life (including the other four members of Arcanos' supergroup The Pentacle) Arcanos finally faced Tesseract in a final battle.

Beaten Tesseract prepared to once more flee with his teleportational power but knew that he needed to do something different to prevent Arcanos from tracking him yet again. Arcanos meanwhile prepared a blast of specially prepared magical energies that would bypass dimensional limits and penetrate Tesseract's well known spatial defenses. The blast of arcane power slammed into Tesseract just as he activated his own power. There was a horrific moment when the local area imploded, and then it exploded outward like a compressed rubber ball released. At it center Carter Linwood wavered and then collapsed. Arcanos took the villain into custody, but that was only the start of the weirdness.

Arcanos quickly noted the inverse color of Tesseract's uniform, and the presence of a recent wound he'd inflicted on the wrong side of the man's body. Arcanos returned to the his sanctum, the Grand Spire, and locked Linwood into his cells. When the man awoke Arcanos and Carter had a long discussion and Arcanos quickly realized what had happened. The power of his attack and Tesseract's space fold had torn a hole between dimensions and the center of the tear had swapped places with his double.

Carter Linwood was a good man, a pinnacle of moral virtue on a world gone dangerously insane. Pursuing the evil super-group known as the Pentacle he defeated its members one by one until only Arcanos the Vile was remaining. As Carter prepared to teleport himself and the defeated villain to a secure dimensional prison the villain had made a surprise attack on Linwood causing a dimensional breach.

Stuck now in a world where all of his greatest allies are evil men and his greatest enemies are bastions of moral and ethical strength Carter Linwood took the new name Flux and has set out to continue his heroic work all the while making himself a new home in this mirror universe.

@Jameson: That is a very creative and engaging background. However, it doesn't mesh very well with the setting. I've said before, though I think it was in a direct comment to someone, so easily missed, that superheroes of the common variety (Spider-man, Batman, Superman, etc) haven't existed since the "golden age" of the setting. Heroes are generally brought into government service, or in hiding from such entities, as soon as they go public. Super villains are even moreso rare, and usually have a political agenda.

If you are unfamiliar with the source material, think of the Ultimate Universe (specifically Ultimates and X-Men). One is a rogue unit that is sought after for employment or incarceration by SHIELD and the other is already in SHIELD's employ.

Prescient - I'll look over my submission some more, but I'm pretty happy with how Stinger has shaped up. More pp to spend would be nice, of course! Thanks again for your help and advice.

oh. Well I didn't realize this was going to be an "Agent" type game, which is what it sounds like you intend. At this point it would require a fairly complete character overhaul to make this PC work. I see what I can do but this'll take time.

Name: Gregory “Greg” Holmes
Alias: Shatter
Age: 23
Family: Isabella Holmes (Mother), Prof. Mark Holmes (Father), Matthew Homes (Brother), Rick (Dog).
Profession: Geologist, Jeweller.

Greg was born in Surrey a suburb of London in the UK. He grew in a four bedroom with his Mother, Father, younger Brother Matt and Rick the dog. He was lucky in that his father was a successful academic professor who has published several books, his mother was always at home to look after the children, he got on great with his brother and his father was Greg’s role model, hardworking and dedicated to his family, it was an ideal life. Greg was well educated at privates schools and after graduating university with a first in Geology (the same as what his father) and a minor in business, he took a year out to travel the world, do charity work and partake in a little bit of geology.

After travelling some of the poorest countries in the world, his last month was spent in South West Africa in hot zone between Congo and Angola. The relief work here was dangerous, ambushes were regular, being taken hostage or killed was a real risk. The area was controlled by Warlords who thought nothing of killing, raping and using child soldiers to further the own goals. Slave labour, Drugs, Black Market Weapons and Blood Diamonds were the money makers here, funded by various governments around the world, the Warlords ruled with impunity.

All that his small group relief workers could do was travel in fast moving convoys dropping of small food packets where they could to feed the starving oppressed populace of the area. It was on one of this trips they drove straight into the middle of a power struggle.

The first vehicle exploded as it struck a mine flipping over backwards landing on its top and killing all inside, Greg’s vehicle was narrowly missed by an RPG but this didn’t stop his vehicle getting knocked to the side of the road, flame began to envelop the almost immediately, Greg jumped out and ran for his life, his family was all he could think about he was never going to see them again, bullets flew passed him one grazing his thigh, it wasn’t long before a group split off and began to follow him. Greg had no idea where he was going, he just ran, he could hear dogs barking, men shouting and guns firing… “I am dead, this is where I’m gonna die and my family is never going to know, I’ve let them down, I’m not gonna…. “

Greg woke and found himself sitting at the bottom of a one man mining pit about 10foot deep he couldn’t have been out for more than thirty seconds, the mud was slick, there was no way he was getting out but that didn’t stop him trying, clawing away at the mud wall Greg tore his nails and his fingers started to bleed, the noise of his pursuers got louder, he held his breath… The noise got closer and stopped just above him, after a few shouts they moved on, Greg did nothing for a whole minute… 5 minutes…. 10 minutes he stood and looked up out the hole at the sky, it got dark. Greg sat back down and passed out.
When he opened his eyes, the sun was directly above him the heat was becoming unbearable, then it caught his eye, a small blue glint… Greg brushed away at the dirt with his hand, what he found was a blue gem the size of his fist. It began to glow, he could feel a small vibration and hear a humming noise emanating, the glow and hum became more violent until the light became so strong that Greg covered his face with his hands, the explosion was so violent Greg cracked his head on the back of the pit he felt sharp pains in his hands and forearms as he looked at them he could see blue splinters embedded everywhere. “THIS IS ALL I NEED…GET ME OUUUUUUUT” Greg screamed and punched the wall, thumped it with his fist smacked it with hand the wall shook, disproportionately so it shook so much the side collapsed slightly, Greg thumped it again and again, the dirt fell in him covering him completely, Greg gasped and his final moments under the earth buried in a pit he finally relaxed, he felt warm and he began to see the light a faint blue light surrounded him, he could feel small vibrations the earth began to shift around him Greg reached up and his arms passed through the earth as if it weren’t there, he began to pull himself up slowly at first then faster and faster with one last heave Greg exploded out of the earth, covered in mud bleeding in pain, hungry thirsty his fear abated and the anger started to rise, what Greg did next wasn’t logical, he didn’t think about it, he just did it.

When he got back to the village where the battle had taken place it was clear someone had one, at the road a kid stood with AK47 in his hand, the kid was so jacked up on drugs he didn’t notice Greg until he was 2 feet away, the kid no more than 12 years old spun fire indiscriminately Greg grabbed the gun it exploded in his hand, he backhanded the child knocking him clean off his feet, he moved into the town, he saw two men hacking away at a woman with a machete, he slammed his hands down on the ground sending a shockwave so violent towards the men that their legs bones shattered they collapsed to the floor screaming. Greg found no one alive from his group, several had been shot some weren’t so lucky… Greg worked his way through the village it was carnage, the horrors would stay with him for the rest of his life, not only the ones they had committed but the ones he had too, he didn’t think about things he did until he was back home, he was the only one that went home.

OOC: finished writing this at 0330 hours, I am planning on adding a bit when gets back to the uk and gets caught in another incident, hope its not to grim :D

@Jameson: I wouldn't call it "agent" oriented, but there is a large government presence in the superhero world. If you have read any of the Ultimate Marvel titles (Ultimates and X-Men specifically) orStormwatch (early issues especially) you'll have some idea as to the level of integration the government will have on the campaign.

Magic isn't a problem, Thor still made it onto the Avengers. They don't really care where your powers came from, as long as they work. The backstory just seemed very four color genre, where this setting is more modern age with a hint of iron age.

Hope that clarifies my previous post.

@Fatty: I am at my mother's house right now so I don't have time to read through your entire post. I'll get to it later tonight and post a response to it.

I know there are already several submissions, but I just happened on this thread after reading some StormWatch, and I'm really interested. Before I hustle to put something together, could you let me know if you're still accepting submissions and if the character has a shot? Here's a quick overview of the concept:

In fighting a covert war with an alien race, the U.S. government attempts to create a new brand of sleeper agent. Through a combination of biological experimentation, chemical treatment, and precisely timed exposure to electricity, a single agent survives the process. Code-named Current, the agent is able to reduce his body to its fundamental electrical essence, or as his handlers joke, his Soul. Current can also control electricity and travel through environments supporting electrical transfer (e.g. power lines). Most importantly from his handlers' perspective, Current is able to read minds and project his thoughts by controlling the electrical impulses in brains, and by superimposing his own electrical essence over others, take possession over others' bodies.

After two years under deep cover as a member of an alien cell, the cell was activated... but not to disrupt human activity; instead, the cell was activated to sabotage the actions of a rival alien faction on Earth. The war between the alien factions resulted in the total destruction of the alien cell, the explosion of an important governmental building in Washington, D.C. and a political finger pointed directly at Current in the small pond of the international black ops community. Current was on the run.

Again, thanks for considering after so many entries, and let me know if I should whip up a build.

I'm not the GM (obviously) but I wanna comment anyways. The concept looks really cool, but there are already two electricity-based concepts submitted.

Also, he hasn't said anything about not accepting anymore concepts yet.

EPIC is correct. We do have a couple of electricity based builds and I am still accepting builds. I think we are approaching 15 builds now, and only 5-6 willbe accepted. Lots of competition, good luck

What about an earth manipulator? I got a girl with abilities of earth manipulation I made for an offline game and hardly got to use her. I'd have to dial her down from a PL 10 but I think I could make her work. Already hav a backstory for her, but whether it works or not is still GMs call. I'll post the full build in here to see what you think when I get a chance.

Haven't seen an Earth Controller yet I don't think. I've seen an amazing PL8 Earth Controller build for DC's Terra. Lemme see if I can find the link to the sheet. It's actually a REALLY good build.

EDIT: Here it is.
