I really enjoyed The Algeron Files. I especially loved the Prometheans (Anton Loveless -- priceless). And Magog of course. I'd like to learn more about the Sikkai and the Gray.

Keep up the good work!

I got my copy a few weeks ago from the local comic book shop. I had preordered it months ago when it appeared in Diamond's Previews.

The book blew me away, despite the black & white format. So much that I think it is better overall than Crooks was.

Glad to see someone got and appreciated that little bit. 8) Hope you get a lot of mileage out of the book.

Surprisingly, I'm not surprised

Postby Xian » Thu Jul 01, 2004 9:57 pm

I just bought the book at Origins and took the weekend to look through it. The character formatting was great and very easy to read. I was excited just to pick up a Superlink product at the con, so I was already biased. However, after flipping (and eventually reading) through The Algernon Files, I'm pleased to say that it surpassed even my biased imaginings.

I'm big on themes and your groups (goodies & baddies) easily fit into that classification. I dig the Aerie and Algernon himself the most. Nice background and char development.

As much as I liked all that, it was the inclusion of the maps that really put the book into the "must have" category. Any addition like that to a sourcebook ups the anty a bunch and I've already recommended it to a bunch of friends. (I want to offer it to my crew, but then they'll have an idea about what's in store.) HA!

Thanks to everyone over at BlackWyrm for a great product. Keep up the good work!

In my bizarro dream dimension, TAF does so well the color version is actually released, with all the groovy color art from the website.

Sdaly, I always wake up and see the state of the gaming industry.

I just hope TAF is doing well for BW. It seems to be really hard to even break even with rpgs these days...

Only complaints i'd have if any..well more of a preferences really is that
A) The hero and villain pictures be in colour for future books.. Black and White is fine for HQ's maps etc.. but for the heroes and villains themselves for anything tied to the Supers Genre really it should follow the Four colours theme :)

B) That a few more no specifically US themed heroes and villains make the rosters... don't get me wrong they're all great, but for those of us who have games set elsewhere than the US suddenly find our available cast of characters cut quite a bit and needing re-theming before they will fit in another locale game. Not a huge deal but a common occurence, you lovable yanks frequently forget the world extends far beyond your shores LOL

Other than that however I REALLY liked the book the HQ's were great, the vehicles interesting, the heroes and villains well done and thought inspiring well worth the money and for me by far the best Superlink book i've seen to date..

One thing I think all of you are forgetting, the web enhancements. The Crone's entry and the color artwork are OUTSTANDING.

In the event that the Blackwyrm crew decide to add additional material to their site in the future, I'd like to see maps for Dr. Prometheus' lab, the rest of island surrounding the Fortress, and possibly and index of the various characters.

In hte event that they do release the Critical Security Updates, I'd like to see them in color. With entries on some of the characters mentioned in the text (like the various reserve Sentinals).

The Crone enhancement was great... though I didn't forget the colour art on their site, its just its no good to me there I wanted it in my book :)

Sentiment understood. If and when we can do color and afford to print it, trust me, we most assuredly will. :?

Hey! Who you calling lovable, pal?!?!?
Heh. We've got lots of stuff set outside the US, but this book centered around the fictional conceit of a US team -- so it was kinda incumbent to have a lot of US stuff. Doesn't mean we forgot about all you "furners."

Hopefully John Bull, The Gryphon, and the rest of The Defenders of the Crown in Fires of War: TAF VII will be of a bit less troublesome a usage for you. :P

Well The Algernon Files pretty much convinced me I'd purchase pretty much anything you guys release for M&M and feel safe that my money was buying me a useful and well produced resource... so a colour book from you guys for me would be an guarunteed sale for my part :)

true true.. but there are only so many plausible reasons a GM can give as to why a woman dressed as the statue of liberty appears to save thier bacon in the middle of cold, wet, dreary Britain..before your players start to get suss :D

looking forward to it!

Just because this bears repeating.

Of all the M&M stuff, TAF is second only to Freedom City in quality (and depending on my mood, jumps over it). Overall for all the superhero supplements I have (and I have a ton) Strike Force, Freedom City, San Angelo, Gurps Supertemps (I love that concept) and Algernon files have been the very best (and Omlevex is sort of up there too). Keep up the good work guys.

Any chance of a quick rundown of the characters included - maybe just a name and a one-liner? I haven't been able to find TAF around here to look through, and I need to get some idea of how many of the characters will be useful for my game.

If you click on the link to blackwyrm Games in Aaron's signature above and then choose extras from the menu on the site which comes up, and scroll do to colour Images Allies and Enemies you'll not only get the names of all the Heroes and Villains in the book but you will also be able to see them :)
