-Coronary is one of the most interesting and unique members of his team (note: Catch my description of their history on the last page before the cut-off), though most of them have Stun-based powers at range. He can control the life functions of others just by looking at them- he frequently made New Warriors members double over in pain. I can't recall the last time I saw a character with those powers in comics, so he gets a thumbs-up from me, even though he's your standard "guy who's actually crazy and likes to hurt people" most of the time. He's fairly tough himself, but is prone to shattering (he had the GENIUS idea of Stunning Namorita as she was flying with him, 100 feet in the air).

-Coronary's powers are actually QUITE horrifying, as they're all Perception-Range (he's never shown 'blasting' someone with power, they just double over in agony as he waves his hands around), meaning he's PL 8 without even having to roll the damn dice to hit. Add to that the fact that he's got FIVE APs, all at the same range, to work with- Vomiting (Nauseate), Passing Out/Pain (Stun), Heart Attacks (Drain Con), Tiring (Fatigue), simply Controlling the Body (Mind Control, kinda) & Blocking the lungs (Suffocate). Oh yeah, and he can control his own body, allowing him to phase through things, grow to Large size plus a bit, and be covered in shards of glass (or whatever he's made of). He can also slowly Regenerate over time, as he's prone to shattering. That's actually a big Drawback (lots of guys can break +12 damage and higher), as it takes him a fair bit of time to pull himself back together. So he's got a ton of powers & abilities, and is very dangerous, but still quite easily hurt, so he's not overwhelming.

-Impulse II (the Wildfire rip-off from the Shi'Ar Imperial Guard predates him, and both predate Bart "Kid Flash/Impulse" Allan) is a pretty generic character archetype- the psychopath with a love for killing. He slashed up Namorita pretty bad in his first appearance with a sneak attack, but then Night Thrasher, who was ready for him, basically pushed his sh*t in and nearly murdered him in cold blood (remember, he was a 90s hero). An ex-gang member, Dwight Hubbard was given powers to utilize his lethal tactics at-will (no idea why Genetech would choose to DELIBERATELY arm a psychopath with death weapons & sweet powers, if their goal was to create great things, but then this seemed a rather clumsily-written story anyways), but there later turned out to be a bit more to him. He was paralyzed after one battle against Terrax, but recovered in time to see his sister killed in gang warfare, which hurt him terribly. Of course, by that point, Psionex was done, and he later reappeared with the rest of the team, sans characterization, as Maryland's Initiative team, and were basically generic Jobber villains again. C'est la vie.

-Impulse is an All-Out type of fighter, and can be very deadly if getting the drop on people. He's good enough using All-Out Attack to nail Namorita three times before she can even react, and the Poison dropped her immediately when he hit her. But once he fought Night Thrasher, who is much better in melee, he totally fell apart, being undisciplined and unready for real talent. This means he's a good, but very limited combatant. He's got low-level Super-Speed with a bit of a points-saver (who needs SIX ranks of Improved Initiative?), allowing for only one single feat, though, as it's the only one he was shown with. As Speedsters go, he's pretty low-level.

-Yup, it's a stripper-turned-supervillain. You know it's the 90s WHEN... (she actually came after Asp of the Serpent Society, though, so she's not the first) Pretty Persuasions was YET ANOTHER member of the team who specialized in mentally screwing with people and stunning them, which was ridiculously common for this team. Methinks Fabian Nicieza just ran out of ideas after a point, so came up with four variations of the same thing. P.P. here pretty much exists just so Mark Bagley can show off his early "Pin-Up" drawing ability, with her fishnet-based skimpy costume and high heels. She left Psionex after their first fight, went back to stripping, but has since shown up again.

-Pretty Persuasions is pretty simple- an athletic young woman who's good at "dancing" and whips or Stimulates people. Her whip is +7 damage, and her Nauseate (the equivalent of the "Orgazmerator" in "Orgazmo") and Emotion Control- Lust effects are +8 at Perception Range. Like most of her team, she really can't take a hit, though.

Can you blame her for going back to stripping? I mean really...the money's better than being a super-villain. People buy you drinks. You can always claim to be "a college student working to make tuition" and there is more of the Anna Nicole Smith* syndrome in stripping than most people even dream about. Plus, while there may be a guy smackin' you around, at least it's just some loser ex, as opposed to a freak in spandex.

*Anna Nicole Smith Syndrome (n.) def.- Rich (usually elderly) Captain Save-a-Ho falls for stripper. Marries her. Dies and leaves her lots-o money, because his kids treat him like crap.

-Mathemanic is the crown jewel of Psionex, as he has by far the hardest power to describe. He's a "Math Telepath". This basically means he can make others percieve math-stuff, which makes him a semi-supercharged version of Amadeus Cho, replacing accuracy and Mary Sue Medusa-seducing with being able to mentall stun people by making them perceive mathematical concepts like the distance between stars and stuff. By slowing people's perceptions of time, he can Paralyze them, and he once convinced the entire city of New York it was August 27th for five straight days (it's complicated, but he was trying to prove that time and reality are just concepts agreed upon by the group, and perception could alter both). He didn't hang with the team alot after a point, kind of going his own way, but he's back as of the Initiative.

-Yeah, people like this tend to be a pain to stat. Most of the standard powers are the same Will-Save-Perception-Range Mental Stun everyone else on the team has, along with Paralyze (for slowing people's perception of time), a Force Field (no idea how he did that one mathematically- they just ass-pulled it), and the doozy, an ability to essentially brainwash mass groups of people (it took a little while for him to pull it off) into thinking something is a fact. Nearly went with Mind Control, but it's actually a Mental Transform Effect, replacing memories with ones of his own choosing. It has Improved Range 8, allowing him to hit a MASSIVE amount of people at once, and most of them stay transformed until something happens (like they realize the memory HAS to be false). It's a big power, but it's not overly offensive or anything. So he's still just PL 8 offensively (sticking to PL 9 defensively with his Force Field up).

-The first Asylum was pretty forgettable, despite being the biggest heavy-hitter on Psionex. She was a former mental patient (yeah, these nice industrialists gave superhuman powers to an INSANE PERSON, a STRIPPER, and a GANG MEMBER) who had Darkforce-y powers that forced people to confront an inner truth or inner lie (essentially paralyzing them while they relived inner rage or their dads beating them or something). She was slightly less cheesy than other Insubstantial Affects Corporeal people, because a good aimed shot to the Mask could flat-out K.O. her easily. She fought some Warriors by herself in another appearance, and was dissipated permanently this time, basically dying. She got replaced by someone who could have actual characterization later.

-Asylum is weak mentally, with few Skills or Feats (didn't even talk in my one issue), but is quite a lethal PL 9 fighter. Insubstantial + Affects Corporeal Ranged Paralyze is SCARY, but that Drawback to her invulnerable Mist form is a doozy- allowing guys to nail her with not just a critical hit- it's 15-20. So it's sorta like a more advanced form of Weak Point for Protection powers- I just kinda invented it as a makeshift -3 Drawback. Makes sense, I think. She also has a generic Blast, but has to go Corporeal for that one.

DARKLING/ASYLUM II (Henrique Manuel Gallante)
Role: The Dark One
PL 10 (146)

ST 14 (+2) DEX 14 (+2) CON 18 (+4) INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 10

Skills:

Feats:

Powers:

AP: Super-Movement 1 (Darkforce Dimensional Travel) (Feats: Progression 5) (Extras: Portal +2) [9]
Emotion Control 10 (Flaws: Limited to Fear & Terror, Limited to Those Teleported) [5]
"Darkforce Body Surround" Protection 6 [6]

"Darkforce Tendrils" Snare 10 (Feats: Reversible) (21) -- [24]
AP: Darkforce Blast 10 (20)
AP: Create Darkforce Objects 10 (20)
AP: Summon Minion 10 (20)

Saves:
Toughness +4 (+10 Darkforce Body), Fortitude +6, Reflex +5, Will +4

Combat:
Attack +9, Damage +2 (+10 Darkforce Powers), Defense +7 (+9 Dodge), Initiative +2

Abilities: 16 / Skills: 20--5 / Feats: 3 / Powers: 81 / Saves: 9 / Combat: 32 (146)

-This guy replaced the first Asylum. A drug addict who was also a mutant, his link to the Darkforce Dimension of course drove him insane, and he became a conduit through which is nearly destroyed all of Manhattan, and he had to be stopped by a mass charge of superhumans. With much less power, he joined Psionex and aided them, but turned 'good' after being responsible for the death of an innocent youth. A decade later, he shows up in The Initiative. The end.

-A standard Darkforce/Teleport guy, being PL 10 and the most powerful member of Psionex by a ways. Not a fan of Teleporting characters in general, as it's kind of a dull power to play around with, and a bit of a game-breaker in gameplay as well. He's arguably the most effective member of his team, but his offensive powers are all PL 9.5, and he lacks the first Asylum's Phasing ability.

-The Thinker (or Mad Thinker, as everyone else calls him) is an old-school FF villain, so much so that he's just a generic mad scientist and that's it. No tragic past (we don't even KNOW his past), nothing else to him, he's just a mean, vicious, rival scientist who messes stuff up and tries to steal Reed Richards' inventions. He's pretty much almost NEVER used these days, as the Mad Scientist is virtually a dead trope, but years of insight have given me new realisations about a guy I once dismissed as a "lame", forgettable villain. Kind of a classic, with his ugly Jack Kirby design and crazed persona.

-The Mad Thinker is one of the few characters who comes close to Reed Richards & Dr. Doom in sheer intellect, an INT 30 to their INT 34s. Less of an inventive genius than Reed, he often swipes other people's concepts and inventions, but he makes up for it with a near Precognitive level of planning genius (often thrown into disorder by a single x-factor like Spider-Man wandering into a battleground, or something), understanding of the most complex principles, and his Awesome Android.

-The Mad Thinker created his Awesome Android (back when "awesome" was a standard positive word to add to make something sound impressive- not Surfer Slang) to fight the Fantastic Four, and it did some mimicking, and beat them around for a bit, before ultimately being beaten. He showed up a handful of times over the years but, being more dated than even the Thinker himself, he became one of those villains that nobody ever really thought about anymore, and vanished. More recent She-Hulk stories using a lot of old goofy Marvel concepts re-introduced him as Awesome Andy, having gained a level of sentience. This lasted a few years, but he eventually left the book, and lo, there he is again, under the thumb of the Mad Thinker. Again. See, this is why it doesn't pay to give old-school little-seen characters power or personality upgrades. You know how many damn times I've seen Electro gain power-ups over the years?

-The Awesome Android is PL 9 in his base form as a super-sized dumb Powerhouse, but upon touching Ben Grimm or somebody, he can Mimic a few properties, and gain in PL, eventually becoming PL 11 Defensively only. I'm pretty sure ST 30 is where he sits normally- upon Mimicking The Thing he can go higher. The Mimic doesn't go very far, and is limited to only 15 Power Points, but it's Action is all the way up to Reaction, allowing him to steal powers just by being punched. He's pretty dumb (and is even worse without sentience- he loses Int & Cha entirely), and is quite cheap, but he's about as good as you can get for a Robot Minion. Since I don't think he has much discernable anatomy, or be KO'd, I think the Android is a Fortitude-Immune non-living entity, though others have built him with a Con score.

And hey- look at that! Build #1796 was just posted there, meaning I'm three posts away from another milestone (though that's been eighteen so far, so they're a little less special now :)). For this one, I'm going to be statted up the BIGGEST bunch of jobbers who ever jobbed. A pack of guys so lame, I can't believe I haven't statted them until now. They've fought The Hulk, Spider-Man & Daredevil, and jobbed to nearly everyone else in the process. And yeah, they're weak & simple enough I can hammer out the big group all as one build.

Edit-- oh, and I've decided to start adding creator credits to my Builds, in anticipation of further changes to my 'set-up' once 3e comes out. While I don't necessarily agree that comic book creators need constant money given to them for their creations (it would make the finances of the comic book world unreasonably messy, and would never work for continuity's sake- just look at what happened with Superboy. Plus, they ARE contracted out for this kind of thing, so it's not like they have no idea that Marvel & DC now own their stuff), I think they should at least get lip service for making stuff.

Actually I kind of like the Thinker (probably because my first exposure to him was during "Acts of Vengeage" when he outsmarted Loki in 2 panels flat), unfortunatly the Kirby-esque design and the whole mad scientist trope no longer cut with the current audience... shame...

Ok, I'm scared, whoever can be so jobberish deserve to be stated for posterity.

Wow. Jobbers that lame? I'm thinking hard, but, I don't think even the Enforcers, Ani-men or Wrecking Crew quite fit the description. I'm train wreck fascinated.

I think the Ani-Men fit the bill. They've been beaten by just about the entire MU and their lameness is cringe inducing. What do the metal ear cups do?

-Terminus is a John Byrne creation, and ended up becoming a semi-recurring threat over the years- he even got a whole Summer's worth of Avengers Annuals as the main villain. He's basically a less-dangerous version of Galactus- less dangerous meaning he can take on the entire Avengers at once, and it takes the biggest strokes of luck possible to allow them to defeat him. How powerful is he? In his debut, he basically wrote "This planet belongs to me- Terminus" in GIANT FLAMING LETTERS... on EARTH. From 100 light years away! All with his Lance. This makes him a problematic, alpha-level threat, requiring entire teams to stop. Because of this, he doesn't show up often, but when he DOES, it's a big deal.

-Terminus is PL 17, and with +22 Toughness and Withstand Damage, he can be nearly impossible to injure. He has antibodies living inside his armour, a Blast so powerful it can hit things from outer space and do +20 damage, he Regenerates from damage, and he can Fly. Your best hope is to disarm the Lance (which he can still Summon using his Armour, which I stuck as "Features" instead of some weird Affects Others Limited to Lance Reverse-Teleport because it's easier than way) or use overwhelming force to crack the armour enough to get some better shots in.

-The Molecule Man is actually crazy minor for a character that is so overwhelmingly powerful. And he's an early one, too- Fantastic Four #20! He was vastly powerful, and TALK about the Super-Power Lottery- the bugger got MOLECULAR CONTROL. This means he can literally do anything he wants, with any THING he wants, and nobody can really stop him. All that from a simple lab accident? You'd think everyone in the UNIVERSE would be trying to replicate it after THAT. Of course, as a Lee/Kirby creation, he had a dozen Achilles Heels, such as a focus on a Wand for his power, and an inability to affect organic matter, but these all got dropped years later as a "Power Creep" entered comics, and people started reading & writing comics just for increasingly-powerful Feats of might, and by "Secret Wars", he was a full-on God, able to defeat anybody. Y'know that giant mountain range that Hulk famously held off the assembled heroes? Guess who THREW IT AT THEM?
-Molecule Man's co-dependent relationship with the cuddly, chubby Volcana was adorable, but doomed to the next writer's fickle idea, and sure enough they were broken up like every other couple in comics. Owen's been around a bit, but has never quite attained the fame that his power level would imply (he could fight GALACTUS on an even keel, and he's a nobody in the field), partially due to his weak personality ('nebbish loser' isn't as inspiring to comis fans as you'd think), and partially due to the half-assed way someone this powerful tends to lose his fights. I think he got talked down from the Dark Avengers recently, only for Sentry to vaporize him. Of course, with HIS powers, fitting a resurrection onto him is easy as pie.

-My most powerful build yet, Molecule Man is PL 22 with an Area-Burst Disintegration effect. How powerful is he? He Disintegrated CAPTAIN AMERICA'S SHIELD. And Silver Surfer's Board. And Mjolnir. And Iron Man's Armour. He's THAT powerful. He's pretty much PL X (the DEFINITION of it, in fact), but what the hey- I felt like making a regular ol' version of the guy. He's got a big structure of powers based off of his key Blast, but also has Variable Power since he can do whatever he wants on that front anyways. He's virtually unkillable, but his base Stats are so meek and useless that anyone could get a lucky shot if he wasn't paying attention, and totally do away with him. In this form, he's actually more powerful than my "Lowest Ebb of Power" PL 20 Galactus Build.

Terminus. I always laugh thinking of the first pages of JLA/Avengers when the JLA kicked his metal butt in 4 pages (while the Avengers kicked Starro's in 4 pages), quite funny considering that usually they are villains worth at least 3/4 issues of massive combat.

I couldn't agree more. Plus the amount of power Owen packs is crazy, practicly it's on-par with Darkseid's Omega effect.
My only nitpick is that, given the nature of his power suite, I think that the Disintegration and Transform effects should be Reversible.
