adding to the jobberdom, jab's mystery guests have fought the x-men (and at least one of their 'junior vasity' x-teen teams), and even lost to freakin' power pack

Did they just... palette-swap Doctor Fate's costume on the first one? The second one's better, but it's tres "90s".

-Graviton is a serious heavy-hitter, which kind of seems funny when you consider that he's not that famous. Problem is, he's just some generic Scientist Who Goes Crazy After An Accident, and brings nothing else to the table. Too bad- Gravity Control is such a rarely-used power (Light Lass, Star Boy, Gravity and only a handful of others, none famous) that I wish more of these guys could get known, but he's just too dime-a-dozen. His Power Levels are ridiculous- he can lift ISLANDS, and entire buildings, thousands of miles into the stratosphere while still doing other stuff- the guy's ridiculously strong. He shows up fairly rarely, and usually gets stopped by his own flaws (he's crazy and easily convinced to kill himself or run away). He's also currently dead.

-Graviton occasionally boasts near-PL X level powers (firing a rock in China through someone in Australia's head, WHILE IN LOS ANGELES), but I think PL 15 serves the 'usual' version well. He's like Magneto on crack, using vast powers (an Area Line Blast +15 to make PL, a +20 Damage Move Object toss) to wipe out entire teams of people. He has two separate Arrays, split so he can do both at once- he can keep an entire facility (and the rock it's sitting on) aloft thousands of feet into the air, while throwing helicopters, superheroes and rocks around, all while Flying and keeping up his Force Field. He can use both Movement-based powers at Perception Range (but still has to aim to hit), and his Area Effects have ranges into the hundreds of feet. To say he's a team effort is a drastic understatement.

to me the one irony of the Molecule mans godhood was that it was Victor "Im better than everyone" Vondoom who gave him the confidence boost to become what he did. He literally with a basic level of psychology took a meek little man and turned him into a god with no limitations save his own will.

As for Graviton hes a great villain to throw against teams of players. you cant beat him physically because of his raw power, but you can bluff, psycheout and trick him like there's no tommorow. hell thats how Moonstone/meteroite beat him, she got inside his head boosted his confidence then completely evicerated him all without landing a single punch.

Shouldn't Gravity Control 20 (Extra: Perception Range) cost 60pp, not 40pp?

no its a great motivation. but theres a difference between impresisng the girls through being yourself and natural ability, and over compensating for being a small man by showing off how greta you are with your fancy car--money, awesome gravitic powers, super mansion etc etc-- like he does. the Leader is the same way> a small minded man given an incredible gift to help people and instead fo doing things to make the world a better place he shows how small he is by playing to his own ego.

its actually a common super villain complication persay.

Yes...yes it is. It is the "I am insecure, therefore I will try to buy/scare/posture you into loving me.

It's about as complicated as the Shocker, Vulture, Melter complication of: I am a genius who invented technology that any military would pay me a bazillion dollars for and the patents would make me ungodly rich forever...so what do I do with it? I rob banks.

And this faulty decision making process is what keeps most super-heroes active in their hobby.

Haha, wow, my math was horrendous with Graviton there. BOTH big sets of powers were off by a whole rank's cost, I think because I added secondary Extras on after I'd already calculated it, and forgot to add them in. Oh well, he was expensive in the first place- now he's APPROPRIATELY expensive, far beyond even Magneto by now.

THE CIRCUS OF CRIME
Created by: Stan Lee & Steve Ditko
Role: Cavalcade of Jobbers

-I loved seeing these guys, way back when I was a kid and read a re-print of the Spider-Man issue where he & Daredevil met up and defeated the entire Circus. It had several classic 60s Marvel touches, like the heroes meeting and fighting (at least the 'misunderstanding' was replaced with mind control) in a brawl without a solid winner, and tons of stupid, ugly-looking mooks going flying. They're reappeared a dozen times over the years, but after getting demoted to Mooks early on, they never regained any dignity- they just got their asses kicked by the dozen, never doing any major damage to a hero again. But they're just so MOOK-Y, that they demand to be statted. In fact, I'm shocked it's taken me this long to do it. And what better for Build #1800 than the Circus of Crime?

-The Circus members are in fairly good shape, and often quite Charismatic, but are still quite cheap, minor-level Mooks who have no chance against an experienced hero unless they fight en masse, which they always do. With The Ringmaster's Hypnosis, they usually end up with another ally (typically a hero like Spider-Man or Luke Cage or something) who does the most damage, while all the others dogpile and try to use their Teamwork feats. The entire crew is about PL 5-6, below every other Marvel character ever (even BOOMSLANG!), and 2 PL higher than most common Mooks- their best members are a step beyond a SWAT Team Officer, which seems about right.

-Eliot's actually been given some characterization after being a generic background Mook for years, but it didn't really matter. Even splitting off from the Ringmaster and forming his own Circus multiple times never gave him anything more than "Named Mook" status, and he still goes down easy.

Abilities: 20 / Skills: 32--8 / Feats: 8 / Powers: 30 / Saves: 4 / Combat: 20 (90)

-Obviously the highest-PL and most expensive guy, he has the Mind Control w/ Perception Extra, plus the ability to keep the guys Conscious and doing stuff while under his thrall, and usually only a reversal (ie. taking the hat off and un-brainwashing the guy) will save the hero. It's high-level, but aside from that, The Ringmaster folds like a card table with the slightest touch.

Re: Jab's Builds: Molecule Man, Graviton, #1800- Circus of Crime

Postby Woodclaw » Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:07 am

Ok these are really the top of the jobberism, but I think that they are really funny villains too (even funnier when you remember that Pricess Python was originally a member of the circus before joining the Serpents). They also tried to go legit more often than not, but soemhow they always went back to their old tricks to round up some extra money.

I have only one minor nitpick, I think that Ringmaster's hypnotic cap should be sense dependant, since one who can't see the whirling thing can't be hypnotized.
