Stephano holds the record for most deaths in Salem (eleven) and cites that as the seventh son of a seventh son, he is immortal.

Certainly seems to be the case... Stephano is returning from the grave just when his enemies have been lulled into a false sense of security, using surprise and guile to stab at them and take whatever he wants... usually before dying again...

Biography: Little is known of Contagion’s life prior to graduating from the New Vindicators Academy of Europe.

NEW VINDICATORS: sic simper tyrannis—During the 2007 Trials, Contagion was selected to join Phobos’ team, along with Amok and Scrimshaw. During the Second Trial, their team attempted to prevent Lodestone’s team (which included Phobos’ twin brother, Deimos) from advancing any further. In the conflict, Contagion was able to lay a hand on each of Lodestone’s teammates—Deimos, Frostbite and Loess—and infect them with Tuberculosis, almost crippling their chances of passing later tests.

During the first round of the Final Trial, Contagion found himself facing Taegan, whose biokinesis allowed him to remove every disease inhabiting Contagion’s body. Without the pathogens necessary to infect anyone and his immunity still intact, Contagion found himself without his devastating abilities and withdrew.

NEW VINDICATORS: contraria contrariis curantur—After leaving the New Vindicators Academy of Europe, Contagion began to study medicine with the intent of becoming a doctor. Two years into his studies, he was approached by Gabriel Farouk and offered a deal: Gabriel Farouk used his temporal abilities to undo the damage done by Taegan’s healing and Contagion was once more recruited into a fight with the alumni of the American school.

Contagion boarded the same flight Magnus and Maria Loder were taking to return from their honeymoon. Introducing himself as Doctor Darwin Straus, the couple failed to recognize their former opponent. Though he was able to subtly infect Maria with Henoch-Schönlein purpura, circumstances prevented him from being able to make contact with her husband.

After landing in New York, Contagion hit pay dirt when the Vindicators arrived to stop a group of bank robbers. Contagion infected one of the robbers with Reye’s syndrome after he was taken hostage. When the Vindicators rescued him, he was able to infect several of them: Silverback (Huntington's disease), Boson (Sandhoff disease), Breeze (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), and the Aurelia (ocular toxoplasmosis).

He next appeared in a park where he was able to make contact with Alicia and Neige Altair. Though Neige’s condition (Kawasaki disease) appeared soon after, it was much later before the heroes discovered what he had infected Alicia with thrombocytopenia.

Ultimately, the Vindicators discovered the truth behind the biological attacks and tracked Contagion to Cairo, Egypt. There, they discovered Gabriel Farouk had used his powers of temporal reversion to restore Contagion’s Neo-Sapien abilities to the point before Taegan removed them. The two both began taking the orders from Semyazza: making seemingly random attacks to lure Coldfire away from his family and use them as collateral to ensure he brought about the end of the world.

If Contagion can lay a hand on you, it's pretty much Fortitude save DC 22 or you're screwed. The good news is, in actual combat he should have a hard time making the necessary touch attack to evoke such an absurd save. Even better news: Contagion is just as easy to hit and even easier to smack around. I like to think that his numerous glass jaws more than make up for the fact that he comes close to having a death touch...

But then again, I'm the GM...

Physical Description: Though she possesses a willowy frame, this lithe dancer is actually fairly strong thanks to years spent studying ballet. Must like her father, she dyes her blonde hair jet black though she accents it with white streaks throughout. Her uniform is the unaltered version and when in her civilian clothes she prefers loose, baggy jeans and tends to wear layers of shirts in order to hide how thin she is.

Biography: Tina’s mother and father had separated long before the man had lost his life fighting in Adonis Skraag’s war. Realizing that Adonis’ dream of a peaceful coexistence between humans and Neo-Sapiens was more important to Lurker than his family, the two women in his life left him in an attempt to start a life of their own…

For years, Tina had been taught to deny her Neo-Sapien heritage. She was told to pretend to be normal—to keep her head down and do nothing as she saw the injustice her father had railed against. To occupy herself, she took up dance. For years she trained in the Cecchetti method of ballet and it was during a performance of The Moor’s Pavane that catastrophe struck…

Lodestone, engaged in a battle with the Vindicators, crashed through the auditorium and began tearing away at the building and hurling the sections at the heroes. Unable to simply sit aside and do nothing any longer, Tina moved to put the powers she had inherited from her father and her own training as a dancer to good use and joined the Vindicators in fighting the tyrannical girl.

After the battle, the teenage girl was given an offer to continue her education at the New Vindicators Academy. She accepted and, after a tearful goodbye with her mother, departed for Washington, D.C. There, she proved herself to be amongst the top of her class and was promoted (along with Hemophiliac, the Lepidopterist, Spectrum and Viscosity) to the ranks of the New Vindicators where they are trained by none other that Lodestone’s mother: Alicia Gladstone.

Vespertine is sort of a cop out: her powers are copy/pasted from her father without much alteration. What she has over dear old dad is a different skill set and a little more combat function. She still can't lay the smack down but she might be able to navigate the battle field a tab bit better.

Physical Description: As if being lanky wasn’t bad enough, Balthazar has two antenna jutting from his head, accompanying his compound eyes and the proboscis that curbs under his jaw; on his back are a pair of scaled wings.

Balthazar is typically seen wearing a kippah as well as his uniform; due to the hastle of getting his wings through the black and white costume, Balthazar seldom takes it off.

Relationships: Balthazar claims to be an orphan and does not possess any friends beyond his teammates (whom he routinely makes uncomfortable).

Biography: Little is known of Balthazar’s life before coming to the New Vindicators Academy. The young man simply showed up in Washington, D.C. one day and approached the school’s front gates. Though he was open and upfront concerning his name and date of birth, no record of his birth has ever been found.

Despite the growing concern Balthazar’s origin has left the faculty with, he was promoted to the ranks of the New Vindicators, along with Hemaphiliac, Spectrum, Vespertine and Viscosity.

Much like Vespertine, the Lepidopterist occupies an alternate future in the Oubliverse.

Butterflies have chemoreceptors in their tarsi, which let them taste on contact. In the case of an anthropomorphic butterfly like Balthazar here, this means he can taste with his hands. Butterflies also have a gift for mimicry, which manifests as Illusion in Balthazar. Essentially, he can make himself fool the senses: if he wants to smell like something else, he smells like something else. He can sound however he wants, look however he wants... He just can't make people think they're stuck in a room with no exit (and who doesn't love Sartre?): his illusions are limited to altering how he is perceived--like morph, but encompassing all senses.

Playing him is fairly simply: he takes flight, flinging all of his Favored Environment into Defense and then he goes nutty with the pollen clouds. Really, anyone with a decent Grapple check and enough Fortitude to get around his toxin clouds can put him down for the count... but then they have to deal with him putting his proboscis on them and who wants that?

It was years more before the heroes were able to solve the myster of what had happened to their nemesis: Sanguine had gotten pregnant and retired from her villainous career. When Avenger began hunting down and executing villains, Sanguine made his list and her teenage daughter was left orphaned.

Bianca left Texas for Washington, D.C. and enrolled in the New Vindicators Academy. Her goals were simple: she wanted to gain the experience she would need to survive the battle with Avenger and avenge her mother’s death…

I had considered giving her Roland Birkmeyer (the Damned) for a father, which would give her his Neo-Sapien powers, the durability he gained from eating a golden apple and make her part of the Aureli bloodline but... that seemed a bit like overkill. In my head, Bianca's plenty effective--she's just got a pretty big glass jaw.

Biography: A year ahead of her boyfriend, Ellen Woolf waited for Vladislav Radikovich to graduate from the New Vindicators Academy of Europe before they exchanged vows. Seeing the difference his years at the school had made when compared to how twisted his adopted siblings had turned out, Vlad devoted himself to teaching at school—working with Peter McClanahan to imbue future generations with their philosophy.

It was something that Vlad’s former classmate, Lex Murphy, couldn’t permit…

As the Avenger, the speedster moved to assassinate those whose ideologies he deemed twisted or corrupt. It was a war that frequently put him at odds with his alma mater. For years, Vlad, Ellen and their fellow faculty members found themselves on the defense when Avenger set his sights on them.

He was ultimately victorious over the faculty: the New Vindicators Academy of Europe was destroyed. Surviving the attack was Jack Radikovich, Vlad and Ellen’s young son.

Jack was taken in by his namesake and godfather, Jack Rexroth. When the elder Jack’s double life as a vigilante endangered the youth though, Greystone enrolled his late friends’ child in the New Vindicators Academy. There, Jack Radikovich has made a reputation for being a sentinel: selfless, Jack is a defender of the meek and a ferocious protector of those closest to him. However, it was these stalwart qualities which caused his girlfriend, Tina Kirk to break up with him: she felt smothered by his over-protective tendencies.

Yet another denizen of an alternate future, Viscosity borrows his power template from his father, Candyman, one of the PC's in the New Vindicators' PBP game. Further, his background makes several assumptions about two other PCs: Greystone and Current. These three and all of the other players over there are some of the most fantastic people I've ever had the opportunity to RP with: it baffles me the amount of thought that they put into their character's actions--the reason behind it... I'll go on record as saying that my PBP players are responsible for some of the most three-dimensional characters to ever grace these boards... even if I can't keep their names straight half the time. ;)

Now the part that's really scarey, what happens if somebody like Jason were to get a view of this (possible) distant future... or worse, Vlad who known to be a bit "proactive" ;~)

It's fun to see all the characters interacting with each other, driving each other nuts, and generally just wreak some havok. Hopefully we can keep from killing each other for a little while longer! ;~)

In trying to figure out where everyone would be in 2035, it dawned on me that Vlad might stay on to lead future generations (I have a few of his adopted siblings statted out and ready to become a thorn in your sides, possibly showing Vlad that as the only one who ends up on the side of justice [Vlad's justice, not Lex's], passing on his philosophy could be a good thing); Jack's strong enough to be a heavy hitter in the hero world, but I can't see him joining a team of heroes; Martin might employ his potential to become the leader of the Vindicators; Viktor would retire to a hedonistic life... Jason's fate will be outlined in the narrative but Lex? Lex I could see almost becoming Uchiha Sasuke from Naruto...

The fact that he was actually able to take out the faculty is staggering.

At the moment, Lex is buddies with Gaspar (who can also wield electricity) and Kirstie (who can boost and deflect energy attacks). They have the potential to become a devastating team. Factor in that one of their peers' powers doesn't like electricity much and a scenario where they take a page from Deimos' playbook becomes somewhat plausible.

Now the part that's really scarey, what happens if somebody like Jason were to get a view of this (possible) distant future... or worse, Vlad who known to be a bit "proactive" ;~)

About a year ago, one of my PCs got a peek at another possible future--one in which one of the other PCs rules the universe and has installed himself as the central pillar in a new religion. At the end of it all, one of the villains from that world accidentally travels to this time period and is set to become a pest at some point. Factor in that Hikari is left over from the last time the story shifted to an alternate timeline and it becomes apparent that at some point, I drag someone from that universe to the core dimension. I don't believe in creating an entire timeline, just to throw it away after one use. Usually, when I do something like this, you can expect someone from it to make it to the other side, bringing with them the history of their dimension...

Rest assured that one of the characters who sees what Lex could become will make it to the central Oubliverse... and become a potential opponent for Mister Murphy over in the PBP game.

While what's currently going on now may seem pointless (Vicente has nothing to do with the Laputa plot), there are plans in motion that his visit will rock the boat. Biography: Perhaps more so than her teammates, Spectrum knows how dangerous the world can be. On her eighth birthday, she blew out the candles on her cake, opened her presents and watched in horror as Margaret Gladstone decapitated her mother.

The madwoman had come to slay one of the party goers: Magnus Loder was the girl’s biological father and in her eighteen years of life, he had failed to acknowledge her as the heir to the Lodestone dynasty. Instead he put all hope in her younger siblings—in the children he had sirred with his wife, Maria: Jim and Krystal Loder. Outraged, the woman moved to attack his family when their guard was down. Though she had failed to kill her siblings, she had claimed the life of Tara’s mother.

Rounding out the New Vindicators in the 2035 timeline is Spectrum, the daughter of one of the PCs in the core New Vindicators game (who hasn't made his debut yet...). Solar Flare is a light controller who only just started to discover the potential to influence magnetic waves. This is fully realized in his daughter, who can command the electromagnetic spectrum to give her control over magnetism, electricity, visible light, radio frequencies... She has a lot of tricks up her sleeve but is still limited to using one of them at a time.

As I said, her father has yet to make an appearance over in the Oubliverse. Carl Hamilton's story arc in NEW VINDICATORS: condemnant quod non intellegunt deals with him learning who he really is and who his parents are. As such, his family tree is quite extensive but in order to keep the surprise safe, I've elected to not mention Tara's other family members up there in her write up.

Physical Description: This willowy Spaniard’s face is always clean-shaven and his hair is meticulously ruffled. He insists on wearing only designer clothes and is seldom seen in anything that didn’t cost a small fortune.

Vicente is missing the pinky finger from his left hand—a fact he first tried to hide with gauze but he has recently graduate to gloves.

Biography: Vicente always had a gift for knowing what people wanted to hear and what they needed to hear. Unfortunately, this seemed to come with a gift for getting himself into trouble…

NEW VINDICATORS: quaere verum—Vicente arrived at the New Vindicators Academy of Europe to visit his brother and he brought chaos along for the ride. In less than a day on campus, the heroes’ guest began to meddle in their personal relationships and revealed (however grudgingly) to his younger brother that he had lost a finger to a Serbian mobster he had been employed under.
