For the past few years I've been collecting various Bruce Timm Templates on the net, with the intent to draw my own characters using said templates. I never quite had the time to sit down and do it though. However a major back injury has given me all the time in the world. So I finally got around to using the templates in photoshop/paint. I'll be posting my creations here. I don't think they're that great, but I enjoy doing them and they keep my mind off the pain. Hopefully, you'll enjoy them as well. I'm starting off with the three member team Power Surge!

Image
Amp. Julius Franklin was an electrician working in the city of San Pacifica. During an accident while setting up the electrical wiring in a new house, he was electrocuted. While the 300 amp surge did not kill him, it activated a host of latent mutant powers. His abilities include Flight, the ability to fire arcs of electricity from his hands and eyes, and he can even briefly transform into electricity to travel through power lines or any device connected to an active power grid. Amp is also a member of the Superhero group known as POWER SURGE!

Depth Charge. Tiffany Jones was an officer in the United States Navy. During a naval exercise in a 50 man submarine, a live torpedo was fired by mistake by an opposing submarine. The torpedo slammed into the sub that Tiffany was on. She was the sole survivor. The underwater explosion activated a latent mutation in Tiffany's DNA. She now has the power to fire torpedo shaped water blasts from her hands, the ability to swim at high speeds, and she can even leap great distances by firing water blasts at the ground to launch herself into the air. In addition to these abilities, she also has enhanced toughness, and can breathe underwater indefinitely. Depth Charge is also a member of the team, POWER SURGE!

Image
Mr. Big. A pro-wrestler for the past decade, Morgan Biggs made a name for himself in the XWE. Prior to a championship match, his manager slipped an experimental steroid compound into Morgan's energy drink. During the match, the steroids activated a host of latent mutant powers in Biggs DNA. The match was stopped when Morgan leapt through the ceiling of the stadium. Mr. Big's powers include Super-Strength, Super Leaping, Super Durability, and the ability to increase his body mass dramatically. Mr. Big currently lives in San Pacifica, and is a member of the Superhero group known as POWER SURGE! His identity is publicly known.

The Argent Protector. Down on his luck and getting ready to lose his house and become homeless, Jonathan Holmstead volunteered for an experimental procedure that would would solve his financial problems. Princeton Robotics was offering a million dollars each, to ten people who would volunteer to have a colony of medical nanites injected into their bodies. Feeling he had not much else to lose, Jonathan signed up. The first week was an agonizing one, as the nanites began to rebuild his muscular and skeletal systems. Two of the volunteers died this first week. The following week another four died. Jonathan began to show signs of improvement during the second week as he was conscious and could talk to the doctors. However, the other three test subjects had gone insane from the nanites in their bodies and worked together to break out of the facility. Jonathan agreed to track down and bring the others back, in exchange for his being able to keep his nanite colony, and all records of him being part of the project, destroyed. Jonathan kept up his part of the bargain by eventually capturing the other three test subjects, and Princeton upheld their end as well. Shortly after the incident WrenCorp bought Princeton Robotics. After the purchase the three test subjects “escaped”. Calling himself “The Argent Protector” (due to the silvery sheen that covers his body when he activates the nanites) Jonathan became a hero in San Pacifica. His powers include, Super-Strength and Super Constitution (thanks to the rebuilding of his muscles and bones), Flight, and a Damaging Aura in the form of a Nanite Cloud. His eyes were also rebuilt allowing him to see into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrum. Each nanite acts as a mini-camera transmitting visual data directly into his brain giving him 360 degree vision. He is currently dating LeAnn Loxley, and is unaware that she is in fact, the superhero known as Fortress!

Fortress. A few years ago while at a mall in Hawthorne City with some friends, LeAnn Loxley witnessed a battle between two metahumans in the mall's parking lot. During the fight, LeAnn and her friends were dodging flying debris while trying to find cover. Suddenly a car tossed by one of the metahumans came hurtling towards LeAnn. She unconsciously threw her hands up and a dome of force appeared around her, the car smashing harmlessly against it. She quickly got to her feet and sped to her car. Upon arriving home, she almost forgot what happened. As she came into the house, her mother, who had just seen part of the fight on the news, screamed and rushed towards LeAnn, arms outstretched. Again, a startled LeAnn reeled back and threw up her arms. Her mother bounced backwards off the force-field LeAnn had inadvertently tossed up. After a few days of playing with her power, LeAnn figured out that when she was excited or angered, she could create force-fields. She eventually also gained the ability to fly as well, expelling kinetic force from her legs. Taking the name Fortress, she now lives as a superhero in San Pacifica. In her secret identity, she dates Jonathan Holmstead, and is unaware that he is the Argent Protector.

This is one of the characters my wife plays in our M&M game. I decided to draw her as well.
The Heavenly Body. An Alien from another part of the galaxy. She and her father crash landed on earth when she was a baby. Her father was a fugitive from their home planet and perished in the crash. She was raised on earth by the scientist that discovered her ship. Exposure to earth's atmosphere gave her the ability to fire comet like blasts from her hands and she has the ability to fly. Currently an Astronomer/ part-time Superhero living in Bayview City. Her identity as Alissa Stevens is public.

And now for a few villains.....

Image
Mastigorius Maxmimus. A Demon Lord who rose to power during the height of the Roman Empire. When given the order from his superior he also instigated the fall of Rome. Centuries later, he has set his sights on San Pacifica. Its only a matter of time for the order to come again, and when it does, all hell breaks loose for this modern day empire.

Image
The Mechanimator. In the 1950's Dr. Joshua Cadmus worked for government in computer systems development. He was way ahead of his time. He tinkered with all sorts of computer devices and by the 70's had developed a way to copy his intellect into a digitized format. He also programmed the computer he stored the copy of his mind in to activate in the event he didn't log on in a week's time. A week after his death in the late 90's the computer activated and began to ponder its existence. It had all the intellect and data Dr. Cadmus possessed but not his personality. The computer was able to build drones since it was connected with the complex/workshop under Cadmus' house. It sent the drones out to gather knowledge about the world. After 10 years of gathering info, the program (now referring to itself as the Mechanimator) began to devise a plan to purge the world of the weak fleshed humans and pave the way for a utopia of robots. His plan was thwarted by a group of heroes in San Pacifica and he was banished to another dimension via a dimensional teleporter that he created. Unbeknownst to the world at large the Mechanimator has since found a way back to this world and now possesses a body of his own creation. This body (made entirely from the self-healing metal known as reminiscium) is his ticket to once again attempt to gain control of the world.

Lady Vermin. Always made fun of in school, Valerie Valentino was the outcast. During puberty, she manifested the ability to control and communicate with various insects and arachnids. While using her powers in secret she eventually managed to push her abilities to encompass rodents as well. After a lengthy session of pushing her powers to the limit, all her body hair and the hair on her head fell out. Her skin grew pale, almost albino, and her eyes turned red. Her fingernails grew into wickedly shard claws and her teeth became sharper and fang-like. Realizing she could never be in normal company again, she fled to the sewers to live with her new friends and family, the vermin of San Pacifica. In addition to her control of vermin, Lady Vermin also has a poisonous bite, and her claws are capable of rending flesh with ease.

Downfall. Marcus Caruthers was the almost typical jock. He actually had great grades, and could have done lots more than play sports, but chose not to. Instead, at his mother's urging, he became a high school football star, just like his dad had been. Everyone in the family had looked up to Marcus' dad. His dad played football in high school, and in college. He was even on the fast track to signing a contract with the NFL's San Pacifica Sentinels. But when Marcus was 5 years old his dad was killed in a botched robbery attempt. The police didn't catch the assailant until weeks later, after he killed two other people in a second robbery. Once in college, like his dad, he signed on to play football, and quickly became a fan favorite. However, late one night, after some drinking, he and some of his fellow jocks, sneaked into the science department to prank some of the geeks. What they ran into was an experiment in progress. A couple of students along with a professor were testing out a new device which was supposed to create artificial gravity and anti-gravity fields. They waited until the professor was leaving and then entered the classroom to taunt the two remaining students. Marcus suddenly had a change of heart after the taunting and shoving went from just being an annoyance, to outright mean. His fellow drunken jocks then turned on him, pushing him into the gravity-chamber. They began flipping switches and pressing buttons at random, all while Marcus pounded against the reinforced glass chamber. The male science student then started shouting for them to stop and was rewarded with a punch to the gut. The machine, now activated began to pulse with light and bombard Marcus with pulses of amplified gravity, and anti-gravity. Bouncing repeatedly against the glass, Marcus screamed in pain. The jocks, now scared out of their minds fled the scene. The female science student ran to the controls and shut the machine down. Bloodied and bruised, Marcus was helped from the chamber by the student. Both students helped to clean Marcus up, and looked him over to see if he was okay. They offered to drive him to the hospital, but he refused. Marcus then made his way home. When he awoke that following morning, he was on the ceiling. Surprised by this, he fell back to his bed. He went back to the science lab to talk with the professor and the two students from the night before. Eventually, with the help of his new friends, Marcus discovered that he could control gravity and could generate fields of gravity and anti-gravity. He could also manipulate gravity's control on him, allowing him to fly. Thinking of his father's death and his former friends actions, Marcus decided to become a superhero, using his powers to help those that were too weak to defend themselves. The female student, whose name was Allison Adams, eventually became Marcus' girlfriend and helped to design his costume. Taking the name “Downfall”, Marcus Caruthers now takes the fight to those who would prey on the weak and defenseless.

Image
Allison Adams. Marcus "Downfall" Caruthers' girlfriend and confidant. She helped to convince Marcus to become the Superhero he is today, and also helped design his costume.

Re: Wes' Supers (Raptor & Foes)

Image
The Raptor I. When a masked criminal killed his partner, and the legal system let the killer walk because he couldn't be accurately identified, police officer Gregory Farrow quit the Hawthorne City Police Force and took matters into his own hands. Suiting up in a homemade costume he became "The Raptor". He used all manner of mechanical gadgets, boomerangs, gas bombs, swing lines and other tools and weapons in his clashes with many different masked super-villains. One such villain known as "The Conjurer" became his arch-enemy and the two fought many times over the years. The Raptor eventually retired in the late 80's. His grandson, Cyrus Farrow, eventually assumed the identity of The Raptor and continues the legacy today.

Image
The Raptor II. Cyrus Farrow is the grandson of Gregory Farrow and the second person over the years to wear the mantle of The Raptor. 15 years after Gregory hung up the costume, Cyrus discovered his grandfather's secret and after talking things over with him began to train under his retired grandfather. Gregory was eventually killed when "The Conjurer"(now an immortal sorcerer) found out his identity after all these years and took revenge on his elderly foe. Now once again, The Raptor, in the form of Cyrus Farrow, stalks the night streets of Hawthorne City in his pursuit of justice and his grandfather's killer.

Image
Cabal the Conjurer. Boris Kelso was always interested in magic. Ever since his father pulled a quarter from his ear as a child, he knew he wanted to be a real magician. He got his hands on "how to" magic books and quickly mastered the art of slight of hand. He eventually became a successful stage magician in Hawthorne City. However, Boris always wanted more. When the traveling "Magic of the Ancients" exhibit came to the Hawthorne City Natural History Museum, Boris saw his chance. Using his skills he broke into the exhibit and stole several artifacts including the fabled "Orb of Anubis". He was almost caught, but managed to get away. Back at his apartment he took the orb from his sack, and upon touching it magical energy surged through him. His brain filled with the knowledge of centuries. He learned that he could summon undead hound-headed soldiers to do his bidding. He dubbed these creatures Anubites. With his new found abilities he set out to do even more daring robberies. Eventually he ran afoul of the Raptor and was arrested. Prison didn't hold him long as his escape artist skills were too clever. Over the years he found that using the "Orb of Anubis" was slowly killing him. During his last fight with the Raptor in the 70's, Cabal the Conjurer fell from a rooftop and died. Upon his death, his soul entered the "Orb of Anubis" and became trapped. Cabal was totally aware and conscious for his entire stay in the orb. Raptor claimed the staff that Cabal had attached the Orb to.

Image
Cabal: The Immortal Sorcerer During his imprisonment in the "Orb of Anubis", Cabal's mind could only think of two things. Escape and Revenge. Decades later, during a botched robbery attempt at Gregory Farrow's estate house, Cabal would get just that. A bungling thief clumsily shattered the "Orb of Anubis" releasing Cabal from his prison. Now an immortal, undead creature, Cabal quickly killed the thief and then killed his Arch-Nemesis, the now elderly, Gregory Farrow. Fleeing from the mansion, Cabal realized he had developed a host of new powers while trapped in his prison. Flight, Magical blasts of black fire from his hands, and many other "spells" were now burned into his brain. He could also still Summon his "Anubites". With these new found powers, he fled into the night, already plotting new schemes. What he did not realize, was that by killing Gregory Farrow, he was paving the way for his new arch-enemy, The Raptor, AKA Cyrus Farrow.

An Alien and a few visitors from an alternate dimension. My wife came up with the concepts for these characters, and I drew them for her. The first entry was actually her first M&M PC.

Image
The Heavenly Body. An Alien from another part of the galaxy. She and her father crash landed on earth when she was a baby. Her father was a fugitive from their home planet and perished in the crash. She was raised on earth by the scientist that discovered her ship. Exposure to earth's atmosphere gave her the ability to fire comet like blasts from her hands and she has the ability to fly. Currently an Astronomer/ part-time Superhero living in Bayview City. Her identity as Alissa Stevens is public.

Image
Venus Flytrap. A Latina mutant named Maria Matthews. Has Plant based powers and hails from an alternate earth where mutants outnumber normal humans. Can emit mind controlling pheromones, and has the ability to control plants mentally. No longer needs food as the chlorophyll in her blood produces all the nutrients she needs when exposed to sunlight. Married to Chris Matthews, AKA Flyby.

Image
Flyby. A mutant named Chris Matthews. Has Fly/Insect based powers that include winged flight, the ability to shrink to the size of a housefly and vibratory blasts fired from his hands. Hails from an alternate earth where Mutants outnumber normal humans. Has a human form also. Married to Maria Matthews, AKA Venus Flytrap.

Image
The Human Vine. A Mercenary for hire. A Plant based mutant that hails from the same alternate reality that FlyBy and Venus Flytrap come from. Has Elasticity (can stretch his limbs, torso, neck etc, into all manner of configurations) No longer needs food as the chlorophyll in his blood produces all the nutrients he needs when exposed to sunlight. Usually works for BioTech Industries doing all manner of dirty work for them in secret. Is not publicly on the payroll so BioTech can maintain plausible deniability.
