Prince Zuko (Book One)
Image
"Tell me where the Avatar is and I won't hurt you or your brother."
PL 8
Str 14 Dex 18 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 10 Cha 8
Skills: Acrobatics+4 (+8), Bluff+6 (+5), Disguise+6 (+5), Intimidate+6 (+5), Knowledge (Tactics)+4 (+5), Ride+4 (+8), Sense Motive+6 (+6), Stealth+6 (+10), Survival+6 (+6)
Feats: Ambidexterity, Attack Specialization (Unarmed), Cunning Feint, Dedication (Honor), Equipment 2, Improved Initiative, Instant Up, Luck, Quick Draw, Rage, Stunning Attack, Track
Fighting Styles:
Northern Shaolin Style (Firebending, Sword, Unarmed, 7 pp) All-out Attack 2, Follow-Up Strike, Improved Critical (Firebending), Improved Critical (Unarmed), Startle, Takedown Attack, Weapon Bind
Powers:
Firebending 3 (Multiple Powers of the Fire Descriptor) (18 pp)
Combat: Attack+8, Unarmed+10, Damage+2, Swords+5, Defense 18/14 while flatfooted, Initiative+8, Knockback-
Equipment: Swords (Strike 3, Power Feats: Improved Critical, Mighty, Off-hand Strike), Body Armor (Protection 4)
Saves: Toughness+6, Fort+5, Ref+8, Will+5
Abilities 16 + Skills 12 + Feats 18 + Powers 19 + Combat 32 + Saves 12 = 109
Notes: Zuko is a dangerous fighter, enough to almost take on the Avatar at this point. He can match a much older, more experienced fighter in Commander Zhao. Almost equally impressive at this point are his sword skills as showcased when he took on the Blue Spirit persona. But something that I think is understated is his incredible determination. The guy just doesn't quit, ever. That's why I gave him a rank of Luck.

PL 7
Str 14 Dex 20 Con 14 Int 12 Wis 12 Cha 12

Feats: Acrobatic Bluff, Benefit (Status [Leader of the Kyoshi Warriors]), Equipment, Leadership, Martial Artist, Quick Draw, Ranged Pin, Rhythm of Battle, Sneak Attack, Teamwork 2
Fighting Styles:
Aikido (Unarmed, War Fan, 8 pp) Crushing Pin, Defensive Attack 2, Defensive Roll 2, Defensive Throw, Grappling Block, Grappling Finesse, Improved Pin, Improved Throw, Improved Trip, Punishing Throw
Equipment: War Fan (Strike 2, Power Feats: Improved DIsarm, Mighty, Thrown)
Combat: Attack+10, Damage+2, War Fan+4, Defense 20/15 while flatfooted, Initiative+5, Knockback-1
Saves: Toughness+2, Fort+4, Ref+8, Will+5
Abilities 24 + Skills 15 + Feats 19 + Combat + 40 + Saves 9 = 107
Notes: Badass normal at its finest, Suki is a very skilled fighter, armed and unarmed. Aikido makes her very good defensively and she can dish out ok damage with her warfan. She doesn't have much to her outside of extremely competent Action Girl, but she's very entertaining to watch. Her scene in the Boiling Rock where she takes down the warden is very impressive to say the least.

Yay, Avatar builds! Can’t judge them that well myself, as I haven’t watch enough of the series yet. However, I’ve recently bought Book 1 and will be watching it with my niece, so that will be awesome. Keep up the good work.

You're in for a treat. It's a great show...too bad the movie was just as horrible as the cartoon was great. Watch Book 1 (you'll get through it fast, let me tell you - we watched something like ten episodes last night and it flew by) and then go see "The Last Airbender." Or pirate it. Or whatever. Then think of me and my friend, secret nerd buddies, who waited for about four months to see the premier...I've never been so disappointed with a movie in my life.

Be warned, here, there be spoilers...

Uncle Iroh
Image
"Maybe that should be a proverb!"
PL 10
Str 10 Dex 12 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 16 Cha 14
Skills: Bluff+8 (+10), Concentration+10 (+13), Diplomacy+8 (+10), Intimidate+4 (+6), Knowledge (History)+6 (+9), Knowledge (Martial Arts)+8 (+11), Knowledge (Tactics)+10 (+13), Notice+8 (+11), Profession (Tea Maker)+10 (+13), Sense Motive+8 (+11)
Feats: Assessment, Attack Focus (Firebending) 2, Benefit (Member of the Order of the White Lotus), Defensive Attack 2, Defensive Throw, Leadership, Martial Artist, Master Plan, Trance, Uncanny Dodge (Hearing), Zen Strike
Fighting Styles:
Northern Shaolin Style (Firebending, Unarmed, 6 pp) Follow-Up Strike, Improved Critical (Firebending) 2, Power Attack, Startle, Takedown Attack 2, Weapon Bind
Powers:
Firebending 10 (Multiple Powers of the Firebending Descriptor) (60 pp)
o "Dragon of the West" Strike 10 (Extras: Cone) linked to Fearsome Presence 5
Combat: Attack+8, Firebending+10, Damage+3, Defense 18/14 while flatfooted, Initiative+1, Knockback-1
Saves: Toughness+2, Fort+5, Ref+4, Will+8
Abilities 22 + Skills 19 + Feats 19 + Powers 60 + Combat 32 + Saves 11 = 163
Notes: One of the best characters in the show, good-hearted Iroh is a lot like Mr. Miyagi. Don't let his kindly exterior fool you, - he's lethal. He's shown to be even more competent than Azula (even if he doesn't have the same raw power) and it's hinted that he's even the equal of the Fire Lord. But his true worth as a character is in his seemingly infinite wisdom and charitable nature. He really balances out Zuko during their time together.

Azula
Image
"Maybe you should worry less about the tides, who've already made up their mind about killing you, and worry more about me, who's still mulling it over..."
PL 9
Str 12 Dex 22 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 12 Cha 10
Skills: Acrobatics+6 (+12), Bluff+10 (+10), Concentration+4 (+5), Intimidate+10 (+10), Knowledge (Martial Artists)+8 (+11), Knowledge (Tactics)+8 (+11), Perform (Fire Kata)+8 (+8), Ride+4 (+10), Sense Motive+8 (+9), Survival+6 (+7)
Feats: Acrobatic Bluff, Attack Specialization (Blue Fire), Benefit (Status 2 [Princess of the Fire Nation]), Connected, Equipment, Evasion, Fascinate (Perform), Fearsome Presence 2, Martial Artist, Political Pull*, Rage, Track, Trance
*+8 to Diplomacy for Connected
Fighting Styles:
Northern Shaolin Style (Firebending, Unarmed, 7 pp) All-out Attack, Follow-Up Strike, Improved Critical (Firebending) 2, Martial Strike 2, Power Attack, Startle, Takedown Attack, Weapon Bind
Powers:
Firebending 9 (Multiple Powers of the Firebending Descriptor) (54)
Equipment: Light Armor (Protection 2), 3 ep
Combat: Attack+9, Blue Fire+11, Damage+3, Defense 19/15 while flatfooted, Initiative+6, Knockback-1
Saves: Toughness+4, Fort+6, Ref+10, Will+6
Abilities 26 + Skills 18 + Feats 22 + Powers 54 + Combat 36 + Saves 13 = 169
Notes: Well, Azula is badass all around. She's a good - great - fighter and all, but what's really scary about her is how damn cold she is. She is just pure evil. Leader of by far the most serious threat to the "Gaang," her little posse causes no end of fits throughout season 2. I'm going to do a more detailed breakdown of bending a little later on, but she relies on fire for area attacks and accuracy and lightning for raw power. And when it comes to raw power, it doesn't get much better than Azula. She's probably the most naturally gifted bender outside of Aang. After all, she managed to generate lightning by 14! Scary, scary villain here.

I don’t understand why so many of the Avatar fans I know actually thought the movie would be good. Really, just look at the actors alone. I’m not even that into it, and I new it would be lame.
Great Azula build, by the way. I may only know a little about Avatar, but of what I know, Azula is a scary, scary girl. I’m curious as to how one would represent her unique blue fire? Improved Critical, perhaps? Or maybe Hellfire control? It is supposed to be way hotter then normal fire bending (which goes along with real life, where blue fire’s hotter then orange and red flames).

Sincerely, Sand Fox

For her blue flame, I'm just representing it by having a higher damage bonus. I'm going to post a little summary of bending, it'll all be shown there. I just didn't want to show the same powers over and over again - I'm already getting sick of Northern Shaolin Style Kung Fu.

Mai
Image
"I thought my life in the Fire Nation was dull, but this place is unbearably bleak."
PL 7
Str 12 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 14 Wis 14 Cha 8
Skills: Acrobatics+2 (+4), Knowledge (Civics)+4 (+6), Knowledge (Tactics)+4 (+6), Notice+8 (+10), Ride+8 (+10), Sense Motive+8 (+10), Sleight of Hand+6 (+8)
Feats: Attack Specialization (Throwing Knife), Benefit (Status [Noble]), Deadeye, Equipment 2, Improved Initiative, Martial Artist, Quick Draw, Ranged Pin, Ranged Takedown, Seize Initiative, Throwing Mastery 2
Equipment: Throwing Knives (Blast 2, Power Feats: Mighty, Improved Critical), 4 ep
Combat: Attack+7, Throwing Knife+9, Damage+1, Throwing Knife+5, Defense 18/14 while flatfooted, Initiative+2, Knockback-2
Saves: Toughness+3/+1 while flatfooted, Fort+5, Ref+5, Will+8
Abilities 14 + Skills 10 + Feats 13 + Combat 30 + Saves 13 = 83
Notes: Mai is a lot cheaper than her bending counterparts, but is still a very viable threat. Unfortunately for her, she never actually hits anyone - this is a children's show after all - but we can glean that she is exceptionally accurate with her knives. She consistently pulls the ranged pin move and can throw a dart so hard it sticks in steel. Finally, she's got a very respectable will save because she is impossible to shake up. She's so bored with everything that nothing even affects her. It's to the point where she's not even afraid of Azula! I'm afraid of Azula!

Ty Lee
Image
“Is it just me, or was that boy back there kinda cute?”
PL 8
Str 12 Dex 28 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 8 Cha 12
Skills: Acrobatics+8 (+17), Bluff+4 (+5, +9 with Attractive), Diplomacy+4 (+5, +9 with Attractive), Escape Artist+4 (+13), Handle Animal+6 (+7), Notice+6 (+5), Ride+4 (+13)
Feats: Acrobatic Bluff, Attractive, Bishoujo, Distracting Looks, Fascinate (Acrobatics), Grappling Finesse, Improved Throw, Martial Artist, Move-by Action, Takedown Attack, Up the Wall
Powers:
Drain Bending 8 (Power Feats: Reviersible) Linked (can be used separately) to Paralyze 6 (Extras: Alt Save [Fort], Power Feats: Reversible) (30 pp)
Combat: Attack+8, Damage+1, Chi Blocking (Paralyze)+6, Chi Blocking (Drain)+8, Defense 24/17 while flatfooted, Initiative+9, Knockback-1
Saves: Toughness+2, Fort+5, Ref+11, Will+3
Abilities 24 + Skills 9 + Feat 11 + Powers 30 + Combat 44 + Saves 9 = 127
Notes: Ty Lee is the last part of Azula’s posse to hunt down the Avatar. She’s an acrobat extraordinaire, definitely in comic-book levels of proficiency. But what’s really fun about her character is her devastating chi-blocking attacks that lock up her opponents and stop them from bending. And there’s one more thing…oh, right. It’s not often that I’d give a character three feats for looks, but it’s that played up how attractive Ty Lee is. During the beach episode, she has guys literally ready to fight over her. And Sokka seems legitimately interested in the drill - in the middle of a fight, nonetheless! Those three feats in tandem make her pretty much irresistible. Set ’em up with Distracting Looks, then knock ’em out with the Attractive bonus to Bishoujo.

Awesome Avatar builds, Yeti! Although I think Sokka and Katara probably deserve to be a little higher in PL. Then again, that might just be because they advanced the most throughout Book 1, so you could make a case for several builds representing them at different periods.

Notes: Of the Gaang, Katara grows by far the most in season 1. She goes from struggling to move any amount of water to a full-fledged Master. This girl is a waterbending prodigy. She duels Zuko several times in the seasonl finale, which is impressive in and of itself as immediately afterward, he goes and overpowers Zhao. She also has her share of utility, with good personal skills and healing. She's more dependent on bending than most of the other characters, though. She's definitely not Aang or Zuko's match in a fist-fight.

Notes: Sokka's progression isn't as epic as Katara's, but he grows in his own way. He doesn't turn into an incredible swordsman - solid, not great - but he's very very clever. More of a combat engineer than a frontline solider, if you will. Expect him to knock off a couple of Fire Nation soldiers and come up with some clever plot or invention. Also, in the movie, he gets in a hilarious low blow. You have to watch for it, but when they're captured and the Gaang springs loose, he absolutely nails a Firebender in the pills from behind. Juvenile, I know, but you take what you can from a movie like that.

Roy Jones, Jr.

Division(s): Junior-Middleweight through Heavyweight
Style: I'm not even going to try

Notes: A little break from Avatar here to bring one of the greatest boxers any of us is ever likely to see. Well, one of the greatest fighters to step in a boxing ring, I should say. His boxing skills were average and he did a lot of stuff wrong. But his freakish athletic ability made up for all of that. This is a man who took James Toney, fresh off of his obliteration of Iran Barkley and made him look like an amateur. It should be noted that all of his losses came well after his prime, when it wasn't so much a question of beating Roy as it was just surviving him. Jones had the fastest hands I've ever seen - and he was a Super Middleweight! Combine that with sick reflexes that allowed him to dodge and counterpunch as well as anyone I've ever seen and you have a nasty, nasty fighter. Oh, and he had one punch KO power on top of all of that. I can safely say that we will never again see the likes of Roy Jones, Jr.
