As Nightwing, Dick is one of my favorite characters and you included those things which make him, in my mind, truly his own man...his complications. His love for Barbara and his rivalry with Bruce really define much of his personality, even if he wouldn't admit it. Great portrayal.

Thnaks, I hope I can do justice to the rest of the Bat-Clan, right now I'm working on Barbara but I had some other things to do in the meantime.

#293 DC Animated Universe: Robin II

Postby Woodclaw » Wed Oct 13, 2010 10:10 am

While I'm working to the build for the 50000 thread views, this one is another character from UNDER THE BAT WING

Image
Robin: You sound just like Batman.
Nightwing: I'm nothing like him.
Robin: Yeah, right. The Mask, the attitude, the long underwear.

Robin
Timothy "Tim" Jackson Drake

Power Level: 8* (113pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 16 (+3), CON: 14 (+2), INT: 16 (+3), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Acrobatics 4 (+7), Bluff 5 (+7), Climb 5 (+7), Computers 3 (+6), Concentration 3 (+5), Diplomacy 4 (+6), Disable Device 4 (+7), Escape Artist 3 (+6), Gather Information 4 (+6), Intimidate 3 (+5), Investigate 4 (+7), Knowledge (behavioural science) 3 (+6), Knowledge (streetwise) 5 (+8), Knowledge (technology) 1 (+4), Language - (Native: English), Medicine 2 (+4), Notice 5 (+7), Search 4 (+7), Sense Motive 5 (+7), Sleight of Hand 5 (+8), Stealth 5 (+8), Survival 2 (+4), Swim 5 (+7)

Feats: Assessment, Attack Specialization 1 (Batrangs), Attack Specialization 1 (Combat Staff), Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 2, Dodge Focus 3, Equipment 5, Favored Conditions 2 (Darkness), Improved Initiative 1, Improved Ranged Disarm, Improved Trip, Improvised Tools, Improvised Weapons 1, Move-by Action, Precise Shot 1, Set-Up, Sneak Attack 1, Teamwork 1, Uncanny Dodge 1 (Visual)

Challenges: Accelerated Stealth, Slip Between Covers 2, Vanishing

Equipment: Binoculars (1ep), Burglar's Kit (1ep), Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Rebreather (1ep)

Costume (4ep)
- Kevlar Lining (Protection 2 [Subtle 1])
- Long Cape (as for BatgirlIII cape rules)

Utility belt and arsenal (Array; 12ep)
- Batrangs (+2 blundgeon or slashing damage; crit 20; 40' [thrown]; Mighty 3)
- Bolas (Snare 5; 50' [thrown]; Full power)
- Combat Staff (+2 blundgeon damage; crit 20; Mighty, Extended Reach 1, Collapsible)
- Grappling Gun (Super-movement 1 [swinging])
- Smoke Pellets (Obscure 4 [visual]; 20' [thrown]; Independent, Ricochet 1)

4ep in mission specific equipment

Combat: Attack +6 (+8 combat staff or Batrangs); Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +8 (+3 Flat-footed); Initiative +7

Saves: Toughness +6/+4 without costume (+4/+2 Flat-footed), Fortitude +5, Reflex +7, Will +6

Abilities 28 + Skills 21 (84 ranks) + Feats 31 + Powers 0 + Combat 22 + Saves 11 + Drawbacks 0 = 113

Complications:
  • Enemy (Two-Face): given their past encounters Tim hates Two-Face much more than any other member of the Bat-Clan
  • Prejudice (sidekick): you know the drill, don't mind mind him, he's just the sidekick
  • Responsibility (live up to Robin's legacy): Tim has a great admiration for Dick Grayson and sometimes struggle to uphold the legacy of the former Robin
  • Wildchild: due to his absent father, Tim is much more independent than his age suggests, so sometimes he struggle under Batman's strict leadership

 DCAU Tim Drake was quite different from his comic book counterpart, in many way he merged elements of Tim and Jason Todd. In this version Tim is less smart, but more cunning and street-savy, even before starting the training with the rest of the Bat-Clan he was already pretty dangerous for a 13 years old kid

 this build tries to reflect Tim advantages and drawbacks, having the whole team teaching him he can pick the best from everyone: investigation from Bruce, acrobatics from Dick, computer from Barbara and, probably, something from Alfred too. But, at the same time, Tim is more of a wildchild, making him more prone to go out on his own

 while he rarely used the combat staff in the cartoon I decided to include it since Tim was the only Robin that choose a signature weapon before moving out of Batman's shadow

 combatwise Tim use the same gimmick as the rest of the Clan, he fight better in the dark but, like Nightwing, he isn't strictly dependent on it

Final build for the UNDER THE BAT WING serie.

Image
Barbara: Anyone can change and settle down... even you.
Dick: Don't get your hopes up.
Barbara: Ha! As if!

Batgirl
Barbara "Babs" Gordon

Power Level: 9* (145pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 18 (+4), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 20 (+5), WIS: 16 (+3), CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Acrobatics 5 (+9), Bluff 4 (+7), Climb 5 (+7), Computers 8 (+13/+15 [computer kit]), Concentration 5 (+8), Craft (electronic) 4 (+9), Diplomacy 4 (+7), Disable Device 4 (+9), Drive 3 (+7), Intimidate 4 (+7), Investigate 4 (+9), Knowledge (civics) 3 (+8), Knowledge (current events) 4 (+9), Knowledge (police sciences) 4 (+9), Knowledge (streetwise) 3 (+8), Knowledge (technology) 5 (+10), Language - (Native: English), Medicine 2 (+5), Notice 5 (+8), Profession (data analist) 6 (+9), Search 5 (+10), Sense Motive 6 (+9), Sleight of Hand 3 (+7), Stealth 4 (+8), Swim 4 (+6)

Feats: Attack Focus 1 (melee), Attack Specialization 1 (Unarmed Attack), Benefit 1 (organizational ties: GCPD), Conspiracy Theorist 1, Contacts, Dodge Focus 4, Favored Conditions 2 (darkness), Equipment 9, Improved Initiative 1, Online Research, Skill Mastery 1 (Acrobatics, Computers, Knowledge [police sciences], Search), Ultimate hacker

Challenges: Accelerated Stealth 1, Discrete Inquiry, Fast Task (Computers), Hide Tampering

Aikido-Judo mixed style (fighting style): Defensive Attack, Defensive Throw, Elusive Target, Improved Block 1, Improved Disarm 1, Power Attack, Sneak Attack 2, Takedown Attack 1, Weapon Bind

Equipment: Binoculars (1ep), Cell Phone (1ep), Computer Kit (1ep), Flashlight (1ep), Rebreather (1ep)

Costume (4ep)
- Kevlar Lining (Protection 2 [Subtle 1])
- Camo Clothing (urban)
- Medium Cape (as for BatgirlIII cape rules)

Utility Belt (Array; 11ep)
- Batrangs (+2 blundgeon or slashing damage; crit 20; 40' [thrown]; Mighty 2)
- Bolas (Snare 5; 50' [thrown]; Full power)
- Grappling Gun (Super-movement 1 [swinging])
- Smoke Bombs (Obscure 4 [visual]; 20' [thrown]; Independent, Slow Fade 1 [1 minute], Ricochet 1)

Image
- Custom-modified Batcycle (Medium; STR: 15; TOU: +10; Features: Hidden compartments, Navigation system 1, Off-road capability, Uplink; Speed 4 [100mph]; 14ep)

- Clocktower apartment (Diminutive; TOU: +10; Features: Communications, Computer, Fire Prevention system, Garage, Infirmary, Living Space, Power System, Secret Exit, Security System 1; 8ep)

3ep in mission specific equipment

Combat: Attack +8 (+9 melee, +11 unarmed); Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +11 (+4 Flat-footed); Initiative +8

Saves: Toughness +5/+3 without armor, Fortitude +6, Reflex +8, Will +7

Abilities 40 + Skills 26 (104 ranks) + Feats 38 + Powers 0 + Combat 30 + Saves 11 + Drawbacks 0 = 145

Complications:
  • Love (Dick Grayson): simply put, Dick and Barbara are in love, which isn't always easy when both have to balance two identities at once
  • Responsibility (to the GCPD): Barabara is a data analist for the Gotham City Police Department
  • Secret (Identity): being the commisioner's daughter and a member of the GCPD, Barbara has some deeper ties and much more to lose respect to the rest of the Bat-Clan, if her identity will be ever revealed
  • Secret (embarassing crush for Batman): before discovering that he was Bruce Wayne, Barbara has a very embarassing schoolgirl crush for Batman

 Barbara was quite nightmare to put together, due to the sheer amount of skills she has. While the DCAU Babs never graduated to be Oracle, she displayed a lot of Oracle-like skills as Batgirl

 her utility belt has a couple of differences, the most important is that she uses regular police smoke cannisters, instead of the usual smoke pellets, these packs more chemical making the smoke last longer

 while it was never clear which martial arts she studied, Barbara preference for tripping and disarming seem very close to judo and aikido

Nice way to end the Bat-builds with a bang Woodclaw. All of these builds are very well done, and the character notes are interesting to read. Bravo.

Thanks, actually there is still one more Bat-based build under revision, as usuall building a lot of similar characters gave me some rethiking about past builds, I'm currently revising Batman, hoping to make him a little more cheap and more beatable.

#295 DC Animated Universe: Jim Gordon

Postby Woodclaw » Fri Oct 15, 2010 2:04 pm

Well for 50000 threadviews I'm going for something different. Before any superhero, any vigilante, any crazy man in thighs, there's another line of defense a THIN BLUE LINE between people like us and all the bad guys out there.

Image
Gordon: Gotta keep fighting, never stop. What I try to live by. Maybe if I'd been younger, I could have been like you. Always wanted to be a hero.
Batman: You are a hero, Jim.

Commissioner Gordon
James "Jim" Worthington Gordon

Power Level: 6* (93pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 18 (+4), CON: 14 (+2), INT: 16 (+3), WIS: 16 (+3), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Bluff 3 (+6/+10 [Cult Hero]), Climb 2 (+4), Craft (mechanical) 1 (+4), Diplomacy 6 (+9/+13 [Cult Hero]), Drive 4 (+6), Gather Information 4 (+7/+11 [Cult hero]), Intimidate 3 (+6/+10 [Cult Hero]), Investigate 5 (+8), Knowledge (civics) 3 (+6), Knowledge (current events) 3 (+6), Knowledge (streetwise) 4 (+7), Knowledge (tactics) 3 (+6), Notice 2 (+6), Profession (police officier) 4 (+8), Search 3 (+6), Sense Motive 5 (+9), Stealth 3 (+5), Swim 2 (+4)

Feats: Attack Focus 1 (melee), Attack Specialization 1 (Service Revolver), Benefit 3 (rank: GCPD Commissioner), Connected, Cult Hero (Gotham Police), Diehard, Dodge Focus 3, Equipment 3, Favored Environment 2 (Gotham), Improved Critical 1 (Service Revolver), Inspire 2, Leadership, Lionheart 1, Master Plan, Power Attack, Precise Shot 1, Teamwork 1

Equipment: Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Police Radio (as Commlink; 1ep), Prescription Glasses (removes the Nearsight Drawback; 2ep), Speed loader (reduce reloading time by one step; 1ep), Undercover Shirt (Protection 2 [subtle 1]; 3ep)

Service Revolver (+3 ballistic damage; crit 20; 30'; Full Power, Lethal Only, Slow Reload 1 [standard action]; 2ep)

3ep in mission equipment

Combat: Attack +5 (+6 melee, +7 Service Revolver); Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +6 (+2 Flat-footed); Initiative +2

Saves: Toughness +4/+2 without armor, Fortitude +5, Reflex +4, Will +6/+10 [Lionheart]

Drawbacks: Disability (Nearsight [common, minor]; -2pp)

Abilities 32 + Skills 15 (60 ranks) + Feats 25 + Powers 0 + Combat 16 + Saves 7 - Drawbacks 2 = 93

Complications:
  • Friendship (Batman): it's not easy being the head of Gotham police and the best friend of its most notorious vigilante
  • Honor (last honest cop): Gordon is honest to the point of stupidity, as Two-Face once said "Gordon can't be bought".
  • Responsibility (to the GCPD): as commisioner, gordon is responsible for the efficiency and the integrity of the Gotham City Police Department
  • Responsibility (Barbara): even if she is a fully autonomous young woman by now, Gordon still feels responsible for the safety of Barbara
  • Secret (Bat-Clan identities): he might not know them for sure, but Gordon has probably a pretty good idea of who are the members of the Bat-Clan, he simply never dig into the matter for respect toward Batman

 in many ways James Gordon is the biggest reason that kept Batman on the right side of the law. First, he's half of Batman's surrogate father - the other half is Alfred - the simple idea of losing him caused the Dark Night to fall in a major fit of depression once; second, the only reason that stopped Batman for being a lot more drastic is knowing that there's at least one honest man out there doing with a badge what he can't do with a mask

 over the years Gordon has shown a uncanny ability to command loyalty, the whole GCPD practicly went on strike when he was incarcerated for accepting bribes, and many of his people are more than willing to jump into the fire for him

 while he's now quite old, in his prime Gordon was Marine NCO and he still packs a mean left hook and he's an expert marksman

 Gordon is based upon the same structure of Two-Face, outside Gotham he is "only" PL5, in Gotham he climb up to PL6 on offensive or defense

#296 DC Animated Universe: Harvey Bullock

Postby Woodclaw » Mon Oct 18, 2010 1:30 pm

The THIN BLUE LINE is getting thicker, or at least wider.

Image
Bullock: Watch it, freak! I never took a dime from nobody! I just bend the rules a little bit. You understand. We're not all that different.
Batman: We're on the same side, but we're not the same.

Lieutenant Bullock
Harvey Bullock

Power Level: 5 (74pp)

Abilities: STR: 16 (+3), DEX: 12 (+1), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 10 (+0)

Skills: Bluff 6 (+6), Drive 4 (+5), Gather Information 7 (+7), Intimidate 7 (+7), Investigate 5 (+7), Knowledge (current events) 3 (+5), Knowledge (streetwise) 5 (+7), Language - (Native: English), Notice 4 (+6), Profession (police officier) 5 (+7), Search 3 (+5), Sense Motive 4 (+6), Stealth 3 (+4)

Feats: Attack Focus 2 (melee), Attack Specialization 1 (Service Revolver), Benefit 2 (rank: GCPD lieutenant), Contacts, Distract (Bluff), Dodge Focus 1, Equipment 2, Favored Environment 2 (Gotham), Improved Grab, Power Attack, Stunning Attack, Taunt, Teamwork 1

Equipment: Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Police Radio (as Commlink; 1ep), Speed loader (reduce reloading time by one step; 1ep), Undercover Shirt (Protection 2 [subtle 1]; 3ep)

Service Revolver (+3 ballistic damage; crit 20; 30'; Full Power, Lethal Only, Slow Reload 1 [Standard Action]; 3ep)

Combat: Attack +4/+5 in Gotham (+6/+7 melee or Service Revolver); Damage +3 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +4/+5 in Gotham (+2 Flat-footed); Initiative +1

Saves: Toughness +5/+3 without armor, Fortitude +5, Reflex +3, Will +5

Abilities 22 + Skills 14 (56 ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 0 + Combat 14 + Saves 7 + Drawbacks 0 = 74

Complications:
  • Enemies (many): Bulllock has a lot of enemies, including the Internal Affairs of the GCPD
  • Reputation (bad cop): Bullock has a reputation for stretching the rules and brutality, which isn't completly underserved
  • Responsibility (to the GCPD): in spite of all his flaws Bullock is a honest cop, who really want to do his work
  • Rivalry (Batman): Bullock really don't like the Caped Freak, but have a sort of grudging respect for him

 Harvey Bullock is another of those characters who enjoyed a second wind thanks to the DCAU. In the comics he was the "other half" of the GCPD, a corrupted cop, with issues with Batman, opposed to Gordon. The DCAU version isn't corrupted, but surely has major issues with the Dark Knight and isn't above stretching and bending the rules

 overall Bullock is one hell of a cop, but his flaws usually outshine his merits

 outside Gotham he lose half a PL on both offensive and defense

#297 DC Animated Universe: Renée Montoya

Postby Woodclaw » Tue Oct 19, 2010 3:53 am

Last, but not least, THIN BLUE LINE build for Gotham City.

Image
Poison Ivy: No man can take us prisoner!
[a gunshot blows the tire of their car, which skids to a stop. Montoya approaches and levels a shotgun]
Montoya: All right, ladies... raise 'em.

Detective Montoya
Renée Maria Montoya

Power Level: 5 (75pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 14 (+2), CON: 14 (+2), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 14 (+2), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Bluff 4 (+6), Diplomacy 4 (+6), Gather Information 5 (+7), Intimidate 4 (+6), Investigate 3 (+5), Knowledge (current events) 4 (+6), Knowledge (streetwise) 4 (+6), Language 1 (English; Native: Spanish), Notice 3 (+5), Profession (police officier) 4 (+6), Search 3 (+5), Sense Motive 5 (+7), Stealth 4 (+6)

Feats: Attack Specialization 1 (Light Pistol), Benefit 1 (rank: GCPD Detective), Dodge Focus 2, Equipment 3, Favored Environment 2 (Gotham), Improved Aim, Power Attack

Police H-2-H (fighting style): Attack Specialization 1 (Grapple), Grappling Block, Improved Block 1, Improved Disarm 1, Improved Pin, Weapon Bind

Equipment: Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Police Radio (as Commlink; 1ep), Undercover Shirt (Protection 2 [subtle 1]; 3ep)

Police Arsenal (array; 7pp)
- Light Automatic Pistol (+3 ballistic damage; crit 20; 30'; Full Power, Lethal Only)
- Shotgun (+5 ballistic damage; crit 20; 50'; Scattershot, Full Power, Lethal Only, Slow Reload 2 [full round])

2ep in mission equipment

Combat: Attack +4/+5 in Gotham (+6/+7 Light Pistol); Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +5/+6 in Gotham (+2 Flat-footed); Initiative +2

Saves: Toughness +4/+2 without armor, Fortitude +4, Reflex +5, Will +5

Abilities 24 + Skills 12 (48 ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 0 + Combat 14 + Saves 8 + Drawbacks 0 = 75

Complications:
  • Prejudice: Montoya is Puerto Rican, a woman and a police officier, the number of slurs and abuses she had to endure by simply walking around is crazy
  • Responsibility (keeping Harvey Bullock in check): it's not easy being Harvey Bullock's partner, especially when the commisioner made abbundantly clear that pairing Montoya with him was an attempt to keep Harvey in check
  • Responsibility (to the GCPD): aside from her personal loyalty to Gordon, Montoya is a very committed cop

 ok, this Montoya in her late animated incarnation, after being promoted to detective and paired with Bullock. She is a great cop, but she is a little more green than Bullock, on the other hand she is a lot more diplomatic and a more efficient fighter

 I decided not to include the most recent development from the comic books, first because there already is a token lesbian policewoman in the DCAU (Maggie Sawyer), second because the idea of making her a master of kung-fu seemed a little lame to me. Still, Montoya has some martial arts training, so I gave a generic police hand-to-hand style

 the shotgun was included for those who want to redo her badass scene when she arrested Harley and Ivy. Plus it illustrated one point, all my police officiers builds are meant to have enough room to use a shotgun instead of a handgun without breaking the caps

 I also changed the rules regarding the buckshot/scattershot ammo, instead of granting a +1 to attack rolls a buckshot suffers only a -1 to hit per range increment (in place of the usual -2) but at the same time if it strike a armored target the GM might increase the armor bonus of value between +1 to +4 depending of the range and strength of the armor

#298 DC Animated Universe: Maggie Sawyer

Postby Woodclaw » Wed Oct 20, 2010 1:21 am

The THIN BLUE LINE moves to Metropolis.

Image
Superman: Think he'll come back?
Maggie Sawyer: If I had a dime for every time Dan Turpin threw in his badge, I'd make Lex Luthor look like a pauper!

Commander Sawyer
Margaret "Maggie" Sawyer

Power Level: 5 (87pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 14 (+2), CON: 14 (+2), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 16 (+3), CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Acrobatics 3 (+5), Bluff 3 (+6), Climb 3 (+5), Diplomacy 5 (+8), Drive 4 (+6), Gather Information 2 (+5), Intimidate 4 (+7), Investigate 4 (+6), Knowledge (current events) 4 (+6), Knowledge (streetwise) 4 (+6), Knowledge (tactics) 6 (+8), Knowledge (technology) 3 (+5), Language - (Native: English), Notice 3 (+6), Profession (police officier) 4 (+7), Search 4 (+6), Sense Motive 5 (+8), Stealth 4 (+6), Swim 3 (+5)

Feats: Accurate Attack, Benefit 3 (rank: Task Force Commander of the S.C.U.), Dodge Focus 2, Equipment 3, Improved Aim, Improved Critical 1 (Heavy Pistol), Improved Initiative 1, Lionheart, Master Plan, Move-by Action, Power Attack, Rallying Cry, Teamwork 2

Equipment: Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Police Radio (as Commlink; 1ep), Undercover Vest (Protection 3 [subtle 1]; 4ep)

Heavy Automatic Pistol (+4 ballistic damage; crit 20; 40'; Laser Sight, Full Power, Lethal Only; 7ep)

1ep in mission equipment

Combat: Attack +5; Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +5 (+2 Flat-footed); Initiative +6

Saves: Toughness +5/+2 without armor, Fortitude +5, Reflex +4, Will +5/+9 [Lionheart]

Abilities 28 + Skills 17 (68 ranks) + Feats 19 + Powers 0 + Combat 16 + Saves 7 + Drawbacks 0 = 87

Complications:
  • Honor (by the book): Maggie is quite strict on regulations - possibly trying to avoid extra complications from her superiors - which isn't always the best thing when your number one man is Dan Turpin
  • Love (Toby Raines): Maggie deeply loves her current girlfriend, Toby Raines
  • Prejudice (openly lesbian): Maggie is lesbian and makes no secret of it, this is something that created her a lot of problems in the past
  • Responsibility (to the MPD): Maggie is the senior officier of Metropolis Police Department Special Crimes Unit, which makes her responsible for the response and containment of rogue metahumans and high-tech criminals

 I admit I never was too much of fan of the comic book version of Maggie, while it wasn't a bad character the idea of making the ultra-tough, short haired cop the first openly lesbian character in the DC universe seemed a little too archetypal to me. The DCAU never addressed the issue of Maggie sexual preferences - it was still supposed to be a kid show - but gave very not-so-subtle nod when Toby Raines appeared in "Apokolips Now"

 Maggie is another tough cop, granted she doesn't have the years of experience of Gordon, but she is incredibly close

 as part of the S.C.U. Maggie enjoys some heavier equiment respect to the usual street cops, making her closer to a commando than a proper police officier. Plus as senior officier of the S.C.U. Maggie has access to a greater level of influence than her proper rank will imply, making her roughly equivalent to a Deputy Commissioner

#299 DC Animated Universe: Dan Turpin

Postby Woodclaw » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:44 am

Final THIN BLUE LINE build, almost, there's one more for my build 300, it will be on a thin line, but it won't be blue...

Good-bye old friend. In the end, the world didn't really need a Superman — just a brave one. [Superman over the grave of Dan Turpin]

Inspector Turpin
Daniel "Terrible" Turpin

Power Level: 5 (87pp)

Abilities: STR: 14 (+2), DEX: 14 (+2), CON: 16 (+3), INT: 14 (+2), WIS: 16 (+3), CHA: 14 (+2)

Skills: Bluff 4 (+6), Climb 3 (+5), Drive 4 (+6), Gather Information 6 (+8), Intimidate 5 (+7), Investigate 3 (+5), Knowledge (streetwise) 6 (+8), Knowledge (tactics) 5 (+7), Notice 3 (+6), Profession (police officier) 4 (+7), Search 4 (+6), Sense Motive 3 (+6), Stealth 3 (+5), Swim 3 (+5)

Feats: Accurate Attack, Benefit 2 (rank: Inspector of the S.C.U.), Connected, Contacts, Dodge Focus 2, Endurance 1, Equipment 3, Lionheart 1, Improved Critical 1 (Unarmed Attack), Inspire 3, Luck 1, Power Attack, Rallying Cry, Set-Up, Stunning Attack, Teamwork 1

Equipment: Flashlight (1ep), Handcuffs (1ep), Police Radio (as Commlink; 1ep), Undercover Shirt (Protection 2 [subtle 1]; 4ep)

Heavy Automatic Pistol (+4 ballistic damage; crit 20; 40'; Laser Sight, Full Power, Lethal Only; 7ep)

2ep in mission equipment

Combat: Attack +5; Damage +2 (Unarmed), or by weapon of choice; Defense +5 (+2 Flat-footed); Initiative +2

Saves: Toughness +5/+3 without armor, Fortitude +5, Reflex +4, Will +6/+10 [Lionheart]

Abilities 28 + Skills 14 (56 ranks) + Feats 22 + Powers 0 + Combat 16 + Saves 7 + Drawbacks 0 = 87

Complications:
  • Reputation (Terrible Turpin): there's one in every department, Gotham has Bullock, the S.C.U. has Dan Turpin. He's the guy who does what others can't, usually kicking the regulations out of the window in doing so
  • Responsibility (to the M.P.D.): Turpin is one hell of a cop, he has a single-minded dedication to his job, or as Maggie sawyer said: "Dan's a good soldier. Tough as a bulldog, but not quite as patient."
  • Rivalry (Superman): while he started to respect the Big Blue a long time ago, Turpin is still very competitive toward him

 to keep it simple, Turpin is a bulldozer of a man, he overpowered a Parademon with his bare hands and had enough guts to tell Darkseid to go to hell right in the big psycho face

 as with Sawyer Turpin's position as part of the S.C.U. grants him some heavier equipment and extra authority respect to his fellow policemen from other units

 not much else to say, in the end there are a lot of similarities among all of these police builds, but that was expected given the granularity of the system

His DCAU death had to be for me one of the greatest and most touching scenes in any animated series ever. only one that would come close would be Jonns leaving the JLU in the episode euolgies.

I agree, what makes it really memorable - for me at least - is that it wasn't the random death of a semi-primary character within the first 3 episodes (like Morph in the X-Men '90 serie) to demonstrate that it's a serious show. At the time Turpin was a well established support character, and the funeral scene was just memorable, I mean they show Luthor crying.
Little sidenote, Dini & Timm intendet to have the Kent killed in the episode, but the DC forbade that. In my opinion it was a good thing otherwise Superman would have gone Frank Castle on all of Apokolips.

What made it trully effective was that even in the DCAU up to that point counting the Batman series. Characters of the like of Turpin didnt just ""DIE"" on screen like that. But in this case Its so sudden and shocking and the animators drew the shocked and horrified reactions of the characters so well when combined with the suddeness of the moment which shocked me utterly when it occured.

Add in the little things they showed such as the implication of Maggies Sexuality or the Fact that Dan was jewish. things which you for the most part did not see actively shown or discussed in an animated format.

the show broke so many boundaries along with Batman TAS, and later Justice League that we were treated to what amounted to a prime time TV series.
