Silver Age Lamentations

Postby Knight Owl » Sat Aug 07, 2004 11:00 pm

Well, we've just played 2 sessions and I've finally got most of the Team Together. I'm the GM.

I'm listing the main Players, as it were

Clive J. Lamarr- A crippled millionaire with an awesome HQ, and force field making wheelchair. The unofficial sponser (Hey, he saved me an NPC)

Penicillin Bot- The Physical Avatar of an Anti-Virus program, the true Leader.

Ranger- A Punisher Knock-Off. The only one that doesn't really fit.

El Lobo- A Cenutries-Old Knight Errant turned Werewolf against his will.

Zordon- A Highly damage-resistant, flying, lightning shooting Alien. (If you've seen Star Wars Episode 2, his based off of the Kamino, the really tall, thin, silver Cloners)

My question is can I run a Silver Age campaign with these characters?
I mean, it is slightly dark (dim really). But right now the Main villian is Dr. Sapien

Also, how do you all deal with a Revolving roster?

Uhg! I hate that. It is hard to plan the right villains.

If you were planning a Mob clean out and Ranger did show for that game it would be a waste.

We love rotating Team Line ups cus it gives us all time to play, my group has 4 DM´s and we all solve it by having oure own villains,

I use The Rubber Man, Belial The Skin Rider and the nihilistic Outcasts

one DM uses The Black Rose

another uses The Order of Pontos, Remlok the Rover, and The Authority

the last DM has yet to DM a session but we think this gives all of us a chance to make a setting together while all having fun and playing

Insist on knowing ahead of time - however many days it will take you to plan - whether your players will make it that week or not. If they don't let you know and don't show, run what you were going to anyway. If they can't be bothered to give you any advance notice, it's their own problem.

So, I'm pretty sure the Alien and the Robot make it silver age, but do the Werewolf and Ranger pose huge problems? I take it back.
The Werewolf, I've told his character several times to think of himself as a Superhero rather than a werewolf.

I'm hoping Ranger will function as a Green Arrow type of hero, sticking up for the little guy. And he is hunted by the CIA so I will get to bring in the Beastiary.

Try to make Ranger more Nick Fury than Frank Castle, and you should be fine.

El Lobo seems silveragey enough to me.

Yeh but becouse we change the DM role we also have a rotating rooster of hero´s in each session, we have had 8 players but never more then 4 at once, its just a matter of who is available at any time. All of us have a adventure ready and we just taior them on who is playing at the time, im still waiting to use my group of supermen that only think about the glory :D

This Fury guy is perfect!!!!
Ranger's player would like that idea alot.

Now, how do I make John Ranger an agent of MERLIN?
(MEta Reconnaisance, Logistics, and INtelligence)
The CIA wants him dead.
Maybe MERLIN is sanctioned by the League of Nations?

I can see that. Ranger is an agent of the UN sponsored MERLIN organization, which is simmilar to being an Interpol for supercriminals, and at some point one of his investigations crossed paths with the CIA and now they want him dead.

Yeah, the CIA killed his family because he discovered
a secret project called "The Beastiary," and the fact that other countries were creating super-soldiers. Nazi Germany had been massively successful afterall.

MERLIN knows this and Ranger's training. They are vastly understaffed dealing with OPEC's supers and now the Beastiary has gone rogue... They offer him a position as long as he moniters the group of metahumans he is in. He could be a cross between Batman and Nick Fury.

I wonder if Dugan will show up in the Ultimates in some form?

Encouraging the Ranger to be Fury-esque is a good idea. Fury is much more Silver Age than Castle.

A possible point of contention for later on, does the rest of the team know that Ranger is keeping tabs on them for MERLIN?
