3e/DCA podcast -- what do you want to hear about?

Postby dirkgentry2000 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:52 am

Hey Folks,

Getting ready to do some 3e/DCA centered podcasts in upcoming weeks.

Thought I'd throw open a thread and ask: What are people interested in hearing on a 3e podcast?

More actual play sessions?
More details about upcoming releases?
More developers talking about certain characters?

So - let us know.

BTW -one caveat: definitive answers from Green Ronin folks on specific rules questions are generally a hard NO. That's not something they want to do on the podcast.

Instead of answers to specific rules questions, I'm still rather interested in how GR is planning to support 3e in the future.

The ORQ forum was quite obviously a very popular and highly useful feature, and, as even a cursory glance at the General and DCA forums reveals, it's not like we don't have any rules questions regarding the new edition. Questions we on the board can't answer definitively.

So my question would be: Will we be getting something like the ORQ forum? Or any other dedicated way to get answers to rules questions the book just doesn't provide?

Some official comments in that direction would be highly welcome.

Definitely play sessions, and/or character/campaign building. Those podcasts have been just plain awesome. Shoot, it sold me on the GM Kit character generator. Looking forward to whatever comes next!

Non Emerald City Play Sessions. Your very best play session was "The Maize of Terror" one.

"Grundys face is not nipples!"

None of your others was nearly as fun as that one. They were alright, just not super uber brilliant like that one was.

More actual play sessions. I've stolen the JLA and Teen Titans adventures for one-off games with friends.

Have to concur with the sentiment of having more actual play podcasts, especially with DC characters.

I personally enjoy the actual plays. I personally like hearing other stories and how you guys play your Heroes. To be honest I am partial to DC oriented episodes, but I honestly enjoyed the non DC games as well. I enjoy the tangents you guys go on when you play an actual game, from pop references to a discussion about comics. It reminds me of how I run my games.

I also enjoy when developers talk about characters they created. It is a bountiful well of ideas and it helps me with my own NPCs. In fact, I am greatly looking forward to when AdvocateJack gets in depth with the characters he created. I hope that is still going to happen. :)

All this talk about what I enjoy or liked makes me feel like I am reading a book report in 4th grade. LoL

So, if I started a more campaign style series of adventures, would you guys like that? Or do you prefer the bottle style encounters?

I must admit to liking the emerald city setting, but I'm happy to keep running in the DC universe!

I'd definately like to see a campaign style podcast. I also like the idea of a campaign creation podcast as well.

Oh, say, that's a peach of an idea!

If I had my choice, I would go with more game session podcasts, dealing with DCA. That said, they have all been very entertaining and a great way for me to borrow (steal) ideas from you!

Campaign creation is a nifty idea too. :)

I second campaign creation, focusing on integrating original heroes and villains in the DC setting, using established DC characters and locations as window dressing to give the sense of the world without the need for the stats.

I think a "theoretical" campaign creation session would be fun/interesting.

I can see a LOT of good material that could come from that.

One caveat: I hesitate to declare that we're running an actual campaign on the podcast because history has shown pretty conclusively that it's very difficult to get the usual contributors together frequently and reliably enough for that to really hang together.

Here are a few things I would like to hear about in a 3e/DCA podcast:
  • How close are they to releasing a new book?
  • When will the next preview/teaser be posted?
  • Will they be publishing/posting any short adventures for 3e?
  • Is there any chance at all that a corrected/revised DCAHH will be printed?
Listening to others play a game, to be honest, does nothing for me. When it comes to learning from examples I, and many I know, do much better seeing/reading them as opposed to hearing them. Of course, as always, these are just my own thoughts, others may feel differently.

They are already producing the Hero's Journey: Emerald City Knights Adventure Path in PDF format. The prologue and Part 1 are already out.

Is there any chance at all that a corrected/revised DCAHH will be printed?

I believe the 2nd Printing of DCA is already out and it has corrections up through the latest Errata.
