Hi all. Here is my new PC to the group:
Luke Lichtheim, a professor of ancient history at Freedom City University, had just finished the worst year of his life. His cat (who had been his only real friend in graduate school) had just died. His colleague falsely accused him of plagiarism in a major research publication when it was clear that the colleague had done the cheating. And worst, he came home one day to find his wife's dead body-- murdered by street thugs in an apparent home robbery.
Luke was devastated, and with his life was at its lowest, he took a long walk through the peaceful cemetery in Lantern Hill, just a few blocks from his home, and contemplated what to do. It was then that he noticed a nearby grave stone was glowing with a dim, white light.
When he approached it, he saw that the name on it read "Wolfgang Shaal." The name meant nothing to him, but as he stood there, he felt himself being overcome by a sense of calm, peacefulness, and, yes, power-- incredible power.
Then, he heard a voice in his head:
I was Der Wisser Dorn-- the White Thorn-- from the Order of the Prophet. I feel your anguish and dismay and now give you the ability to unlock the latent power in yourself. Bury your pain with me, and stand now for justice and the peace it provides. And with that, Luke noticed that he, himself began to glow with a dim, white light.
After some months, Luke honed his new powers. He brought to justice the thugs who invaded his home and killed his wife. He knew that this was his calling in life. His new calling as...

Complications*Justice* The White Lantern feels a strong sense of justice, and will seek it even when it goes beyond the reach of the law.
*Rivalry* The White Lantern knows of other Bearers of Light, including the hero
Beacon. As Beacon is considered the
true Bearer, the White Lantern takes every opportunity to show that he is just as worthy of that title.
*Hatred* The White Lantern was instilled with a small part of the White Thorn's psyche, and therefore has a particular hatred of Nazis and the legacies (if they live) of the super-powered villains of the Golden Age (like Nacht-Krieger) who wiped out the Alliance of Freedom.
PersonalityThanks to the tragedy of the loss of his wife, coupled with this transformation into the White Lantern, Luke is, ironically, a much darker individual than he ever used to be. He is thus a bit stoic and cold at times and it takes a bit for him to let his guard down.
Notes
This is a beefed-up version of the build from the
Freedom City Archetypes & Legacies PDF. In reading through the builds of the other PCs, I see that it's a pretty powerful and versatile group, so I've tried to make the White Lantern a worthy member

I don't know a whole lot about FC (but I am planning to purchase a copy of the 2e book), so if the Beacon complication doesn't make sense, I can change it

I thought it would be interesting to play an ironic guy-- whose power set and theme is something of a "beacon of light" but who is, in fact, rather gloomy and brooding.
