Yet another item in our Villains Line hits the Aisle 2 shelves.

Image
All villains should be this cool.

SHEN KUEI (THE CAT)
PL: 11 (169 pts) - OPL: 11 ; DPL: 11

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 3, STAMINA 4, AGILITY 7, DEXTERITY 5, FIGHTING 15, INTELLECT 1, AWARENESS 3, PRESENCE 1

SKILLS: Acrobatics 9 (+16) [Agile Feint, Athletics 11 (+14), Close Combat [Unarmed] 4 (+19), Deception 9 (+10), Expertise [Mercenary] 10 (+11), Expertise [Streetwise] 7 (+8), Insight 9 (+12) [Assessment], Intimidation 6 (+7), Perception 6 (+9) [Tracking], Persuasion (+1), Ranged Combat [Throwing] 3 (+13), Sleight of Hand 7 (+12), Stealth 8 (+15) [Hide in Plain Sight]

ADVANTAGES: Accurate Attack, Agile Feint, All-Out Attack, Assessment, Defensive Roll (3), Evasion (1), Grabbing Finesse, Hide in Plain Sight, Improved Critical (1) (Unarmed), Improved Disarm, Improved Initiative (1), Improved Trip, Languages (2) (English, Japanese, Base: Mandarin), Move-by Action, Power Attack, Precise Attack (1) (Close, Cover), Ranged Attack (5), Takedown (2), Tracking, Uncanny Dodge, Weapon Bind

POWERS:
NONE

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +11
Close Attack +15
Unarmed +19 [Unarmed +3, Critical 19-20]
Ranged Attack +10
Throwing +13

DEFENSES:
Dodge +15 [DC25] Parry +15 [DC25]
Toughness +7, Fortitude +9, Will +11

COMPLICATIONS:
Arrogance: He has ultimate faith in his abilities which can cause him to be taken by surprise by an "inferior" opponent
Honor: Despite being a world class mercenary, does have a code of honor and does not harm innocents
Reputation: World class mercenary and seen as second to Shang-Chi among martial artists
Rivalry: Shang-Chi

Abilities 78 + Skills 41 (82 ranks) + Advantages 29 + Powers 0 + Defenses 21 = 169 / 169

Build Comments: Shang-Chi’s long-time rival, The Cat, Shen Kuei. He’s an interesting character, kind of a good bad guy, that really just has a thing about being better than Shang-Chi, although he often finds himself in nefarious situations. I built him to be juuuuust shy of Shang in unarmed skill, but better than just about anyone else.

I am going to have to do some more testing to see about adding Improved Critical to him and some others, or taking it away. I have always been of the mind that a top notch martial artist like him, Batman, Shiva, etc. should have at least a rank or two of Improved Critical: Unarmed, but it seems like the DCA builds lack it so I am holding off at the moment.

Secret Origins: Shen Kuei is a Hong Kong based secret agent/mercenary who gained the name "The Cat" due to his stealthy, cunning nature. He also has a tattoo of a cat on his chest. He is a former enemy and current rival of the Master of Kung Fu, Shang Chi.

The Story so Far: The Cat and Shang-Chi have had many encounters over the years, with Shang-Chi coming out on top most of the time, but most of their battles have ended in stalements. At one time, Cat was hired by Silver Sable to join her Wild Pack. Their mission came into conflict with the Heroes for Hire. The Cat faced off with Iron Fist, hoping to prove himself superior to the hero in martial arts. The two fought to a virtual standstill. Until the Heroes for Hire were ordered to retreat.

He has also worked as a merc for Cable. He once defeated Deadpool, who looks at him as a Rock God among mercs and has also referred to him as "The Keith Moon of spy trade" and "The Justin Timberlake of the Cherry Pop Club”.

Characterization: Shen Kuei is a freelance espionage operative, probably originally from Hong Kong. He has been both enemy and ally of Shang-Chi. He is a master thief whose skill in martial arts rivals Shang-Chi's. The meaning of the character's name is both similar and opposite to Shang Chi's name. He is a sort of mirror image, a 'good bad guy' in opposition to Shang Chi's 'bad good guy'. While they share mutual respect, the two always find themselves in opposition.

Friends and Foes: He and Shang-Chi have a long running rivalry.

Sorry the builds have been slow folks, busy time at Thorpe's Deep with school starting for the Little Thorpacolypses, me assistant coaching my youngest's football team, getting ready for fantasy football and such. But things are settling, so I'll be able to get back to my favorite waste of time shortly.

I have started writing up some fights, and since I have gaming ADD, I have started 4 but, not finished a damn one. So coming up, we have:

Thor vs. Solomon Grundy
Iron Man vs. The Power Corps
Spider-Man and Luke Cage vs. The Huntmaster
Batman or Captain America vs. Doctor Sin (I started with Batman, but I might change it up, I can't decide)

Should be fun!

For the Imp. Crit: Unarmed, from what I can see in the Blockbuster build in H&V 1 I think the builders consider Imp. Crit on Unarmed attacks as a way of indicating the raw savagery of their fighting style. Kinda like how other Improved [manoeuvre] advantages are used to characterise the typical combat strategy employed by the respective characters.

It seems to me that critical chance correlates highly with chance of bloodshed on the official write-ups.

We had a few items left on our last truck from Cybertron, so we're stocking some of them tonight on the Aisle 17 shelves.

Image
The luckiest dude on Earth. Making out with Megan Fox, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and getting to run with Indiana Jones. You gotta give props where props are due, dude has the Big Man smiling down on him.

SAM WITWICKY
PL: 5 (58 pts) - OPL: 2 ; DPL: 5

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 2, STAMINA 2, AGILITY 2, DEXTERITY 1, FIGHTING 2, INTELLECT 1, AWARENESS 1, PRESENCE 1

SKILLS: Acrobatics 2 (+4), Athletics 4 (+6), Deception 7 (+8), Expertise [Cybertron] 1 (+2), Expertise [Popular Culture] 3 (+4), Insight (+1), Intimidation (+1), Perception 3 (+4), Persuasion (+1), Stealth 2 (+4), Vehicles 4 (+5)

ADVANTAGES: Benefit (1) (NEST Clearance), Equipment (1), Favored Foe (Decepticons), Set-Up (1), Taunt, Teamwork

ENHANCED ADVANTAGES:, Evasion (1), Improved Defense

POWERS:
Bane of the Decepticons: Enhanced Advantages 2 (see Advantages), Enhanced Dodge 4, Enhanced Parry 4 (Flaw: Limited [against Decepticons]); 5 pts

EQUIPMENT:
(5ep)
Cell Phone, Standard: Feature 1, Diminutive; 1ep

OFFENSE:
Initiative +2
Close Attack +2 [Unarmed +2]
Ranged Attack +1

DEFENSES: Dodge +4 (+8 against Decepticons) [DC14/18] Parry +4 (+8 against Decepticons) [DC14/18]
Toughness +2, Fortitude +4, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: The Decepticons
Fame: The whole FBI, world looking for him thing during Revenge of The Fallen has made him well known by many and not for good reasons
Nemesis: Dylan Gould
Pain In The Ass: Thanks the lovely Witwicky DNA he can really piss people off without trying that hard. And when he's TRYING…woo…
Relationships: His parents, Carly/Mikaela, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime
Temper: The old Witwicky temper can get him in trouble sometimes

Abilities 24 + Skills 13 (26 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 2 + Defenses 10 = 58 / 58

Comments: This is Sam as of the last movie, and hopefully it IS his last movie. I think Shia has ridden this horse about as far as he can go, even if the franchise continues (which it shouldn’t but you know Hollywood when they can make a buck, they will bleed a good thing dry).

He is all about setting up Bumblebee and the others and running away from danger. But since he mainly stars against Transformers, I made his abilities a power and I didn’t even make it Innate since he could lose that ability if he gets replaced in the franchise.

Another item in our Transformers line hits the Aisle 17 shelves.

Image
Point of order: There are certain things in the Transformers movies that are a VAST improvement over the original series...

CARLY SPENCER
PL: 3 (34 pts) - OPL: 0 ; DPL: 3

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 0, STAMINA 0, AGILITY 1, DEXTERITY 0, FIGHTING 0, INTELLECT 1, AWARENESS 2, PRESENCE 2

SKILLS: Athletics 2 (+2), Deception 5 (+7/+12) [Attractive 2], Expertise [Business] 2 (+3), Insight 3 (+5), Intimidation (+2), Perception (+2), Persuasion (+2/+7) [Attractive 2], Stealth (+1)

ADVANTAGES: Attractive (2), Equipment (1), Set-Up (1), Taunt

POWERS:
Becoming a Bane of the Decepticons: Enhanced Dodge 4, Enhanced Parry 4 (Flaw: Limited [against Decepticons]); 4 pts

EQUIPMENT:
(5ep), Cell Phone, Standard: Feature 1, Diminutive; 1ep
Headquarters: (4ep)
Her Apartment: Give or take, 4ep (I don't feel like statting it right now…)

OFFENSE:
Initiative +1
Close Attack +0 [Unarmed +0]
Ranged Attack +0

DEFENSES:
Dodge +2 (+6 against Decepticons) [DC12/16] Parry +2 (+6 against Decepticons) [DC12/16]
Toughness +0, Fortitude +3, Will +3

COMPLICATIONS:
Phobia: Because of the loss of her brother (a soldier), she fears she will lose Sam in the war with the Decepticons
Relationships: Sam Witwicky

Abilities 12 + Skills 6 (12 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 4 + Defenses 7 = 34 / 34

Comments: I guess Megan Fox learned the hard, sad truth that we are ALL REPLACEABLE. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was definitely not an upgrade in the acting department, but geez, she is right there in the hotness department. And Mike Bay was even nice enough to give her a moment to shine near the end, too, so good for her.

We've still got a handful of items left from our truck from Cybertron, although granted, the previous two items and this one are actually from our store in Burbank VIA Cybertron...

Image

Comments: The NEST team was formed after the first Transformers movie and has played a big role in the sequels. The scenes in Dark of The Moon with them in the glider suits was major league cool. And Lennox, Epps and the boys have been good for some comedy, too, in addition to the occasional takedown of a Decepticon or two. With Sabot round blasters, good teamwork skills, and in the case of Lennox and Epps, top level human soldier skills, they should be able to hang with most supers as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------

SGT. ROGER EPPS
PL: 7 (103 pts) - OPL: 7 ; DPL: 7

Relationships: the NEST squad, especially Lennox

Abilities 40 + Skills 27 (54 ranks) + Advantages 21 + Powers 0 + Defenses 15 = 103 / 103

Still a few more items to unload from our shipment from Cybetron. This next item in our Decepticon Line is getting stocked on Aisle 17.

I still think he's setting a bad example by rollerblading down the highway without helmet, whether he is on fire or not...

BONECRUSHER
PL: 11 (132 pts) - OPL: 11 ; DPL: 11

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 11, STAMINA 10, AGILITY 0, DEXTERITY 0, FIGHTING 6, INTELLECT 0, AWARENESS 1, PRESENCE 0

ADVANTAGES: Chokehold, Fast Grab, Favored Foe (Autobots), Languages (1) (English, Base: Cybertronian), Power Attack, Takedown (1)

POWERS:
Cybertronian Size: Growth 9 (+9 Str, +9 Sta, -4 Dodge/Parry, -9 Stealth, +4 Intimidation, Speed +1, +9 Mass; Extra: Permanent, Innate); 19 pts
Cybertronian Physique: Protection 3, Impervious 6 (12 ranks), Immunity 13 (Aging, Life Support, Sleep), Senses 1 (Radio); 29 pts
Robot in Disguise: Morph 1 (Buffalo Armored Vehicle, Extra: Metamorph); 6 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +0
Close Attack +6
Unarmed +11 [Unarmed +11]
Ranged Attack +0

DEFENSES:
Dodge +5 [DC15] Parry +9 [DC19]
Toughness +13 (+6 Impervious), Fortitude +13, Will +6

COMPLICATIONS:
Alien: Bonecrusher and the other Cybertronians sometimes have problems grasping the culture of Earth
Enemy: The Autobots
Responsibility: To Megatron and the Decepticon cause
Vulnerable: The Cybertronians are vulnerable to Magnetic attacks, taking at extra degree of failure against them
Vulnerable: The Cybertronians are susceptible to extreme cold, taking an extra degree of failure against cold attacks

Abilities 20 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 64 + Defenses 24 = 132 / 132

Comments: Bonecrusher, despite limited screen time, also had an iconic moment in the first movie, with his “rollerblading” down the highway and his slam attack on that bus. Very cool. Granted, he got pwned by Optimus right after that, but still, he had his moment.

One thing to note with him is that he never showed a ranged weapon so I didn’t add it. Most of the Cybertronians have some sort of blast, so you could add a generic 10 rank blast or blaster and probably be OK, I just chose not to this time.

Another item in our Decepticon Line hits the Aisle 17 shelves.

Heh-heh-heh...he showed his nards in the movies...

DEVASTATOR
PL: 12 (137 pts) - OPL: 12 ; DPL: 12

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 18, STAMINA 18, AGILITY -1, DEXTERITY 0, FIGHTING 6, INTELLECT -2, AWARENESS -1, PRESENCE -2

SKILLS: Athletics (+18), Deception (-2), Insight (-1), Intimidation 6 (+4), Perception 2 (+1), Persuasion (-2), Stealth (-1)

ADVANTAGES: Favored Foe (Autobots), Improved Grab

POWERS:
Cybertronian Size: Growth 18 (+18 Str, +18 Sta, -9 Dodge/Parry, -18 Stealth, +9 Intimidation, Speed +2, +18 Mass; Extra: Permanent, Innate); 37 pts
Cybertronian Physique: Protection 2, Impervious 7 (14 ranks), Immunity 13 (Aging, Life Support, Sleep), Senses 1 (Radio); 30 pts
Grappling Hooks: Enhanced Skills 2 (Athletics 4 (Flaw: Limited to Climb checks); 1 pts
Suction Vortex: Cone Area Move Object 12 (Extra: Area Cone 3 [250 ft], Flaw: Limited Direction [towards]); 48 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative -1
Close Attack +6 [Unarmed +18]
Ranged Attack +0
Special Attack [Vortex +12, Cone Area]

DEFENSES:
Dodge -2 [DC8] Parry -2 [DC8]
Toughness +20 (+7 Impervious), Fortitude +18, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Enemy: The Autobots
Power Loss: Requires at least 6 Constructicons to retain Devastator form
Responsibility: To Megatron and the Decepticon cause
Vulnerable: The Cybertronians are vulnerable to Magnetic attacks, taking at extra degree of failure against them
Vulnerable: The Cybertronians are susceptible to extreme cold, taking an extra degree of failure against cold attacks

Abilities 0 + Skills 4 (8 ranks) + Advantages 2 + Powers 116 + Defenses 15 = 137 / 137

Comments: One of the few highlights of ROTF, Devastator. His effects were really cool, even if they were wasted on a “fight” with Skids and Mudflap. I was going to make him a higher PL, but really, his size makes him pretty inaccurate and it’s not like you have to aim really hard to hit him (they hit him with a Rail Gun from about 500 miles away [Exaggeration, but still...]), you just have to hit him HARD to hurt him.

NONE

DEFENSES:
Dodge +11 [DC21] Parry +10 [DC20]

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: Ravage cannot use his claws for fine manipulation and cannot speak (although it's debatable)

Abilities 34 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 64 + Defenses 18 = 140 / 140

Comments: Ravage had a couple of good moments in Revenge of the Fallen, but alas, at the end he got totally pwned by Bumblebee. But his design was pretty cool and he’d give lesser bots and heroes a good rumble.

We've got a lot of builds in the warehouse to get stocked this holiday weekend and we're starting off with some builds that fit the time honored J-Mart Tradition of MORE POWER! This one is a redux of an item we've already got on the shelves.

Someone's been hanging out with Barry Bonds' trainer again I see...

ALLEN THE ALIEN (CURRENT)
PL: 14 (252 pts) - OPL: 14 ; DPL: 14

Ranged Attack +1
Throwing +7

DEFENSES:
Dodge +7 [DC17] Parry +9 [DC19]
Toughness +19 (+9 Impervious), Fortitude +16, Will +12

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: With only eye, he is subject to depth perception issues and sneak attacks from peripheral areas
Enemy: The Viltrumites
Honor: With the Unopian race being nearly extinct, they are bound to, um…save their "seed" for the breeding centers, not for personal pleasure
Responsibility: To be "the champion tester" of the Coalition of Planets

Abilities 92 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 6 + Powers 121 + Defenses 17 = 252 / 252

Comments: This is Allen where he is portrayed currently in Invincible. He's at least the equal of a top level Viltrumite like Omni-Man and has to be pretty much unkillable now. I might drop his Toughness a bit later, but considering that he and Nolan took out a whole squad of Viltrumite soldiers who are least PL12-14, and even Nolan was impressed with his power, I feel pretty good about this now.

I was going to post this one with his original version, but that seemed to make the post too cluttered so here is the link to his original PL12 version.

Allen (PL12)

Y'know... I often ask myself which I like more about your builds... the build itself, or the caption for the pics !

On Devestator, any reason why there is nothing accounting for his components?
Granted, my Menasor mechanic is mundo complicated to stat out...

Well, I was going to stat out all of the different pieces, and I still may, but really, I figured the Power Loss was enough since it's pretty much known that he's a combination of several Constructicons. I figure you would treat him losing a piece like a Long Haul or Scrapper after a crit or 3rd damage or something like that. Unless I am misunderstanding your question, then feel free to straighten me out!

I just wanted to represent the big beast as he is constituted and leave the rest to GM/player imagination/dialogue. And on the captions, sometimes I get inspired, sometimes I just feel like being silly so I'm glad others enjoy them.

Abilities 98 + Skills 13 (26 ranks) + Advantages 24 + Powers 159 + Defenses 13 = 307 / 307

Comments: This is my take on a DCA style Sentry. He’s a monster and a half.

I do love the Sentry concept and I like that they don't use him as a plot device all the time, even though they could. I do figure he'll come back as a major plot device soon, but still, he's a fun Superman analogue.

And speaking of which I saw this pic which is without a doubt the greatest one ever crafted by human hands...

Build Comments: One of my favorite villains, and especially the way he was portrayed in this summer’s 3rd best superhero movie (and that is not a slight, I loved Thor and saw it twice but Captain America and X-Men: First Class were just THAT freakin’ good and Green Lantern was not nearly as bad as some people made it out to be) Thor. I thought they got to the core of who Loki is. I never saw him as pure evil, he’s just the little brother that is constantly compared to the other and he wants to be seen as good as the “chosen one”.

Now granted, he has done evil things, but he has also shown that he is not beyond redemption, at least for a while. And he certainly looked like he had seen the error of his ways when he was getting whacked by The Void at the end of Siege. Time will tell, but I think we all know he will be back and wreaking havoc again in no time.

On the build, I toyed with adding Mind Control, but he doesn't do that very often and he could do it with Variable Power when he needs it, he just wouldn't be able to do it in combat and I haven't seen him ever use it like that anyway.

Secret Origins: Many years ago, when Bor, ruler of Asgard, was battling frost giants, he followed a wounded giant to a powerful sorcerer that was waiting for him. The sorcerer caught him unaware, turning Bor into snow. Bor's son, Odin, found his father as he was blowing away; Bor begged Odin to find a sorcerer to free him, but Odin made no attempt to save his father. Bor cursed Odin saying that he would take in the son of a fallen king and raise it as his own.

Not a week later, Odin himself led the Asgardians into battle against the Frost Giants and gravely injured Laufey, who was the King of the Frost Giants, in personal combat. After leaving Laufey to die, Odin found a small Asgardian-sized child hidden within the primary stronghold of the Frost Giants. The child was Loki and Laufey had kept him hidden from his people due to his shame over his son's small size. Odin took the boy, out of a combination of pity, to appease his father, and because he was the son of a worthy adversary slain in honorable combat, and raised him as his son alongside his biological son Thor.

The Story so Far: Throughout their childhood and into adolescence, Loki was resentful of the differences in which he and Thor were treated by the citizens of Asgard. The Asgardians valued great strength, tenacity, and bravery in battle above all things, and Loki was clearly inferior to his foster brother Thor in those areas. What he lacked in size and strength, however, he made up for in power and skill, particularly as a sorcerer. As Loki grew to adulthood, his natural talent for causing mischief would make itself manifest and earned him a nickname as the "God of Lies and Mischief"; his mischievousness eventually became malice as his hunger for power and revenge grew stronger. Several times he tried to use tricks to get rid of Thor, like telling him to guard a hole in the wall he had made. In time, his reputation grew from being a playful and mischievous trickster to some calling him the "God of Evil".

Over the centuries, Loki attempted on many occasions to seize rulership of Asgard and to destroy Thor. He even helped the Storm giant Ghan to escape Thor, planning to get a debt from him later, and aided other enemies of Asgard, planning to take over. Loki compiled an extensive criminal record in Asgard, and Odin who had grown weary of Loki's mischief, frequently exiled him.

Loki's schemes eventually came to include Earth itself, and he often fought with Earth's superhuman heroes to take their planet, and often Asgard itself. He first battled Thor on Earth in modern times after escaping from the tree that Odin has magically trapped him in. Loki then manipulated the Hulk into wreaking havoc using an illusion of dynamite on train tracks, while in astral form in an attempt to lure Thor to Earth, which inadvertently led to the formation of the Avengers as several other heroes came to meet the Hulk.

Thor was one of the founding members of this superhuman team, and often led them in battle against his brother. Several times Loki, while not directly battling Thor himself, caused threats for Thor to battle, like increasing the mental powers of a carnival fortune teller Sandu, making him powerful enough to lift buildings with his mind and releasing a Lava man called Molto by accident when he caused a long-dead volcano to explode. Loki even released Mr. Hyde and Cobra by paying their bail, then doubled their powers. Loki told them to kidnap Jane Foster, which he knew would attract Thor's attention, but they were again defeated. Loki finally went after Jane Foster himself, sending her to another dimension. However Doctor Strange was able to protect her, and Thor forced Loki to return her.

Among Loki's better known henchmen was the human criminal Carl "The Crusher" Creel, whom Loki transformed into the superhuman criminal known as the Absorbing Man. Creel would prove to be a formidable adversary to Thor over the years. Loki went so far as to attempt to turn Odin against Thor and to steal Thor's enchanted hammer, Mjolnir in an attempt to free himself, but all his efforts failed. When he convinced Odin to go to Earth and leave him in charge of Asgard with part of the Odinforce, he released Skagg, the largest Storm Giant, and Surtur, the huge Fire Demon, to try to destroy Odin. However Thor and Balder helped defeat the monsters, and Loki was sent to serve the Trolls.

Loki was responsible for the Destroyer being awakened, by leading a Hunter to the Temple where the Destroyer armor resided using his mental abilities while Thor was nearby, causing the Hunter's soul to animate the armor, but Thor forced the Hunter to return to his body, then buried the armor under thousands of tons of rock. The Absorbing Man was brought back to Earth by Loki, and battled Thor, but Loki quickly took him to Asgard when Thor was on the verge of defeating him. The Absorbing Man defeated the Asgardians without too much trouble and absorbed Odin's attacks. However Loki and his ally were exiled into space due to a trick by Odin. He sent his astral form back to Earth and took over the Destroyer armor, attempting to take over Asgard, but Odin sent Balder to discover the location of Loki, then used his powers to send Loki out of the Destroyer armor.

Characterization: Loki is the trickster god and his lived up to that for centuries. He has been one of the greatest villains in Earth’s history and has shown no sign of desiring to end that. At his core, he simply suffers from an inferiority complex to his brother, Thor, and strives to prove to everyone that he is his equal, if not his better.

Friends and Foes: Loki’s greatest rival is Thor, but he has run afoul of dozens of heroes over the years and no one, hero or villain alike, ever really trusts him. Despite all their conflicts over the centuries, Thor continues to love his brother and hopes to truly reform him someday, but that day remains far away, if it ever comes.

Clean Up 11/21/13: Loki gets a Superior Thorpacoverse update and a new pic with the visage of the awesome Tom Hiddleston.
